Nope. Use SFC to check Windows n do a DDU.

Already clean installed windows (this is an HCPC just for video playback so that was fast) so more than a DDU was already done.

Investigating a bit more, i discovered it's frequency related.

Playing video @ 60 hz display>> no crash, all work perfectly.

Playing video @ 24 hz display>> crash after 2 minutes.

That is quite strange as smooth motion isn't activated yet atm so it shouldnt be different, i'm not sure why it would do that.

there are two known crashes with some version and only one should still be encounterable.

so this is more likely the 113 sm bug. but that should crash immediately.
the other crash is about 15 sec into playback and has todo with the time out warning but these version should be timed out.

try the newest beta and just hope...

you can also report this bug but to be honest you are wasting your time.

Those issues are crashes in madvr itself. He clearly mentioned it was the nvidia driver that was crashing.

14th October 2023, 07:37
It's seems to be reclock related.

I'm still using it for 24 // 23.976 fps /// 60 / 59.94 fps acceleration and the good old pal speedown / pitch correction for some older media (maybe there is a better 64 bits solution today but having done that for over 15 years on my hcpc, i was used to it).

It has always worked perfectly with your latest mpc-hc, lav & the latest madvr from here.

Apparently, something changed / broke somewhere somehow now it breaks with 24 // 23.976 fps content when reclock and madvr are activated.

Not a "big" deal in the end. Might actually be a good time for me to let it go.

What might be the settings (or maybe some other cause) that seem to block deinterlacing? Even though I have enabled the "when in doubt..." option and watch VOB files, the ctrl+J info screen always shows "deinterlacing off (dxva11)".

You are using D3D11 decoding, deinterlacing is not implemented with that combination.

Is there any way to "process HDR content by using an external 3DLUT" anymore? I want to use a 3DLUT for HDR calibration, but I also want static tone mapping. Is this possible anymore?

ever since i've updated to windows 25967 , madvr keeps crashing (https://prnt.sc/QAAZD52BL9Kt)

i've tried it with both beta (0.92.17 / Test Build 169) and the latest madvr (madVR v0.92.17)

i am using mpc-be 1.6.10
i can't send a bug report out as it's not linking properly with the email app that i have

Try it with the time-limited betas that are still being released. http://madshi.net/madVRhdrMeasure179.zip

One of the known issues that is listed for that Windows insider build is:
Some popular games may not work correctly on the most recent Insider Preview builds in the Canary Channel. Please be sure to submit feedback in Feedback Hub on any issues you see with playing games on these builds.
MadVR uses similar DirectX APIs as games. So report issue to Microsoft.

Thanks for responding. I don't know if that helps. What am I looking at? Is that how you do static tone mapping with an HDR-to-HDR 3DLUT? Where'd you get this? Any more information is greatly appreciated

If all you're doing is showing me the "tone map HDR using external 3DLUT" option, no, that doesn't help. If I put an HDR-to-HDR 3DLUT in there, it treats it like an HDR-to-SDR 3DLUT with terrible results. It used to work in 0.92.16, but that version has unresolved bugs like making everything red. I'm wondering if the feature has been stripped

Re failure to switch correctly in hdr mode, this is often caused by botched settings after a gpu swap. Delete your settings.bin in the madvr folder, delete your madvr settings in the registry, run the “reset to default settings” batch file in admin mode and reenter your settings. That always solves it (as well as the key shortcuts for profiles not working) for me.

Yeah I have removed my settings bin, and also ran the .bat file as administrator so as to start madVR from scratch. Ran DDU on my 4090 system and installed the latest drivers from scratch. Nothing seems to fix madVR not somehow working nicely with the TVs HDR mode. If I do manually set windows to use HDR (which I don't want to leave permanently on) before the movie, it all looks great. Its when madVR does that HDR switch, its definitely looking very weird showing lots of banding etc.

Do you guys know if madshi is still open to looking into such issues or do we just have to live with anything like this we find going forward? In the 'old days' he would probably have a build out within a few days that 'fixes' it :)

No fixes for these kinds of things in a long time, I am afraid. :(

JohnRo79 showed you where to put the 3DLUT. This is where Calman puts my HDR to HDR 3DLUTs during calibration. Make sure to set the metadata sent to the display correctly (same as used during calibration).

The functionality has not been removed.

That's where I already have the 3DLUT. That's where displaycal put it. What should the metadata be set to? I have it set to P3 and 10,000 nits, which is what I used during calibration, unless it wants BT.2020
It doesn't work. madVR treats it like an HDR to SDR 3DLUT
It works in 0.92.16, but that has unfixed bugs like making everything red. The later versions I've tried don't work

I can't do that because that's where I have my SDR LUTs. Thanks for the suggestion anyway. I'm looking into mpv now, which seems to have this capability and more

Click on "create profile group" and you can make multiple settings profiles for a device. Like one for HDR and one for SDR.

Have you installed MPC-HC and madVR as part of the K-Lite Codec Pack installer? Do you see any tangible benefits with the additions (Full or Mega)? And if you have NVIDIA, did you change the 3D settings for MPC-HC as recommended? I don't know if it is VSync (probably that) or adaptive power saving (I have Finnish Windows so hopefully I got the terms right), but for me they just made it more buggy and unstable.

You can use whatever NVIDIA settings work best for you. But if things are unstable then you should probably try a different version of the driver. If you get stuttering or frame drops, then you maybe need to reduce MadVR settings.

What is the suggested filter to downscale anime? I am currently using lanczos but any hint from higher experience users is welcome.

My TV updated and created itself as a new device in MadVR settings. I have now lost all my settings since its now left under the old device. Is there a work around to move my settings from old device over to the new created device without entering them all over again?

@tormento I like to use Mitchell-Netravali anti-ringing for both chroma and image scaling down (have linear light on for downscaling) and up for both anime and regular video. It's an algorithm that gives good visual results with low system resources required. This algorithm in particular can also hide a small amount of source artifacts, which may be a bonus with older material. It's easy for me to make this recommendation because I don't have an RTX 4070 so in a way I have no choice, but in all seriousness, it is a good one that is overlooked because it is old. I don't like algorithms that make colours look too "hot"/saturated or the image too contrasty/sharp, etc.

@fotb No, but there also aren't a lot of settings either if you never made scripts or fancy elaborate profiles like some here do. You can still open the old greyed-out entries. Just scroll back and forth between the two, or copy the app window to the clipboard and paste it into paint and look between the two as you duplicate the settings. You only need to do it once and it won't take long.

ssim tweak it to your liking it can target pretty much everything.

try drag and drop on the new one this should combine them i never tested that backup your settings first.

Unfortunately, that functions seems to work only within profile groups of each individual device and not globally across devices

click on device
add new device

move the identification of your old device to the newly created device.
move the identification from the now active display to your old with the profiles/settings.

if should ow use the profiles.
this worked here you can maybe skip the new device things and just delete the old identification but this looks a bit saver.

I've upgraded the whole pc, got a rtx 4070 ti card, and I have random presentation glitches, not frame drops or delyaed frames. I'm using d3d 11 native in lav, and d3d 11 in madvr...Tried various options, presenting frames from 1 to 3, sometimes with these i got flicker. Tried v-sync on in nvidia control panel, prefer maximum performance, same results.

Have you also installed the latest driver from NVIDIA? Also, such a low presentation queue - why? It's easier to account for fluctuations if you set the various queues higher. My present queue is at 8 and the other queues are at 12.

It's counter-intuitive, but more powerful cards will often not reach high power states when decoding and presenting video. That means they may often exceed the v-sync threshold because it's not too important to present more quickly. It helps to give them some room with the queues. That's just my experience.

That means they may often exceed the v-sync threshold because it's not too important to present more quickly. It helps to give them some room with the queues. That's just my experience.

With my 3090, the default presentation queue (8) and default vsync setting (let 3D application decide) cause frequent and very visible frame drops (a few per minutes) though they are not reported in madVR, at least when using jRiver. It does the same with JRVR, though JRVR reports them. This isn't the case with my 1080ti. I think this started with the 2xxx series, but I could be wrong. The same happens with a 4xxx series, tried a 4060.

There are two ways around that with recent GPUs: setting vsync on, which resolves the issue with both madVR and JRVR, or setting "present a frame in advance" to 1-3 (only 1 works for me) in madVR, which doesn't help with JRVR as there is no equivalent setting.

So as far as I can see, at least when bitstreaming with Win 11 Pro x64, the only way to resolve the issue with both renderers is to use vsync on, in which case the presentation queue can be left to default - 8 - in my case.

Setting power to "max performance" helps to prevent the issue you're talking about, where the GPU might not prioritise video playback enough.

Unfortunately, I still have one large dropout per film, about 1-3 secs where the picture freezes and the sound drops, then a few secs where pic and sound stutter as they get back into sync. I'm going through a Denon X8500HA. According to a Trinnov user who experiences the same issue, this is due to a Windows 11 update back in August. Shame as the Atmos audio drop outs that I was experiencing have been resolved by recent jRiver/LAV fixes.

I'm still waiting for anyone with a 3xxx or 4xxx GPU who experiences no audio/vido dropout at all when bitstreaming to post all their relevant settings, but for some reason that's not happening, so I'm assuming that no one with a 3xxx or 4xxx is bitstreaming audio through an AVR without some sort of issue.

I've asked many times for such users to post their OS version, driver version, madVR/LAV version, nVidia cpanel settings (manage 3D settings) and their madVR rendering settings, as well as any hardware acceleration setting (including LAV video settings) but until now no one has obliged.

That's a bummer. I don't use Bitstreaming and have a 3060 Ti on Win 10 Pro, so far no problems. But with D3D11 Native I do get occasional mouse stutter when MPC-HC is opened and loads video for the first time after boot.
To be clear, the problem I mentioned is to me not a problem at all, as the card can manage the video playback fine on a lower power state. It exceeds VSync threshold but stays within frame threshold so everything is gravy. I could see where that becomes problematic, though.
Also, with a high Hz display it would be a lot of work trying to stay within 6ms vsync window at all times. That would be akin to forcing high power state I guess.

Last night I managed to achieve good playback (tested for over 25 min), without any frame drops or frame delays or presentation glitches. The settings I tested were from avs forum - cpu queue - 4, gpu queue - 4, frames in advance 2.

You need to test a full film, many times. I usually get the drop out after 1-2 hours.

So far so good, zero dropped, delayed and presentation glitches on a 2 hr movie. Queues 4-4, 2 frames in advance.

Are you bitstreaming HD Audio (especially Atmos) through an HDMI 2.1 AVR?
If yes, which OS, driver version, madVR version, LAV version?

Sorry, but I'm not bitstreaming, I'm on stereo big speakers. Using madvr b112, lav filters 0.78, win 10 pro x64.

Yeah, not bitstreaming doesn’t count.

Bitstreaming through HDMI 2.1 AVR is what matters for this issue.

maybe you should try it with this: https://www.resplendence.com/latencymon
if no dpc spike is shown then this is also helpful meaning the hardware drivers shouldn't be related to the issue.

I've already tried this and posted screenshots in the jRiver drop outs with Atmos thread (see https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,136525.msg951743.html#msg951743 for the AMD 5950x HTPC and https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,136525.msg950182.html#msg950182 for the Dell XPS 17 with EGPU).

There is clearly a latency issue with the 3090, but why is there no issue with the 1080ti? It makes no sense to me, unless the need to use vsync on with the 3090 is causing this.

I still haven't seen anyone using a 3xxx or 4xxxx to bitstream high bitrate HDR content through an HDMI 2.1 AVR saying that they have no issues, so it might just be that I'm in a very small subset of users.

A few people have posted about this in this thread previously, but everytime I ask for settings we either find out that they are not bitstreaming, or they have no AVR.

just as me so i'm not goanna waist your time this way.

this is now a DPC issue. which makes it worse...

the eGPU and your internal have completely different reasons for the spike.
for your 3090 microsoft audio driver followed by nvidia.
and the eGPU has nothing todo with nvidia directly.

additionally to the "Disable CPU's Core parking in both Windows 10 and Windows 11" that clsid posted you can try to disable the CPU C/C2 states and other power saving stuff in the bios if that is still possible.

DPC spike because of CPU power management are not that rare. madshi had DPC issues him self until he disabled power saving but that was a long time ago.

Thank you both, very helpful.

Don't worry about the Dell XPS / EGPU, I was only using this as a temporary testing platform, and also to show that the issue was not specific to the AMD HTPC. The latency issues might be different (some caused by the EGPU itself no doubt), but the behaviour was the same as far as drop outs were concerned. I'm focusing on the HTPC now, so let's forget about the EGPU.

I'm going to install 537.58, I had issues with the latest 546.01, so I reverted to a previous version, but as 537.58 resolves some documented latency issues with nVidia, let's start there.

I'm going to go through CLSID's list soon (thanks again) and I'll get to the bios if I don't have any success at a higher level, but please could you provide more info on the following:

1) How do you disable CPU's Core parking in Windows 11? [EDIT: Found this nice video explaining it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFz8HRk4WfI]
2) Do you remember which power saving was disabled by Madshi? Was that in Windows? Which one?

Thanks again for your help, much appreciated.

Also, in another thread, a Trinnov use mentioned that this started happening for him in August, with a Windows 11 update. Does that ring a bell? If it's Windows, then it might be fixed in a next update and I might be chasing my tail with everything else.

I'm trying to resolve this with the 3090 in the HTPC and am resisting the urge to put the 1080ti back for now. :)

1: prefer maximum power in powerplan should do that. lots of tools for that. i personally never did that.
2: that was haswell or something and done in bios. so 10 years ago. so there is a small chance you have no such options. i have no clue what your CPU has as options.

i personally had 20000 dpc spike only in mpdn also on a haswell maybe ivy cpu. i luckily never encountered these issues ever again. i currently run old zen 2 and zen 3 cpu. the new agesa may help too. they have patched a lot of stuff.

in your case a microsoft driver is making issues so yes could be the windows version.
chasing DPC issues is always more of guess work than anything else.

Thanks, I found a video about disabling core parking (linked to in an edit in my previous post).

I think I have enough for now to keep me busy for a while.

Thanks again, I’ll report back if I make any progress.

My ASRock X570 creator has the latest bios, so latest Agesa.
