Thanks fairchild.
- ffdshow video is set to RGB32 out. "High quality YV12 to RGB conversion" and Dithering are checked. BT.709, Full Range in/out.
Bad idea. madVR does the same things but better. Uncheck RGB32 in ffdshow output and let the madVR do its job.

I thought RGB32 was the preferred output from ffdshow to madVR. If not, which would give the optimum results?

madVR does better YUV > RGB conversion etc. Just uncheck RGB32 and keep the rest in ffdshow output. Thats it.

Outputting the same format and video levels as the source video from FFDshow to madVR will give the optimum results. 99% of the time this means limited-range YV12. There is no reason to uncheck RGB32 since FFDshow won't use it with madVR if YV12 or NV12 is also checked. I usually set up my FFDshow with YV12 & RGB32 HQ only, so anything that doesn't accept YV12 will get RGB32 instead.

Hey guys I noticed that applying an .ICC profile in Windows also affects the madVR colour output! I was surprised...
Any thoughts on this?
Is it better to have no desktop correction and instead correct video only with madVR due to better quality perhaps?

Applying an ICC profile using the Windows ICM affects all applications. madVR is no exception.

I think I have a display mode changer problem again: Log (http://www.mediafire.com/?pn1k83rrl5ndenb)
madVR correctly switched to 1080i29 when the playback starts but it switches to 1080i25 when it goes into fullscreen mode (this mode is not even listed in my settings).

I just completed a calibration of my LCD TV and entered my measured primaries and grayscale numbers in the yCMS page. All appears to be working well but I have a question, should I check "enable gamma processing" on the color&gamma page or leave it unchecked?
Thx

Nvidia is preparing something it's better to prepare for this http://forums.nvidia.com/uploads/monthly_06_2011/post-286476-13073754558286.png and the impact it might bring and support questions from users, if they don't use it application specific ;)
I'm not using hibernation here, don't even know if my PC can do it (afraid to try). Can you provide a madVR log? Please try to keep is small. Meaning: Start video playback, let it play just 5 seconds. Then hibernate. Then wakeup. Wait maybe 20 seconds. Kill MPC-HC. Zip and upload the log. Thanks.
I hope it's not too big: madvr - log.txt (http://www.sendspace.com/file/nq7bne)(7,6 mb)
Regarding the hibernation, if your computer isn't really old (8 or 9 years) then it can hibernate. It's nothing dangerous anyway, since the computer will shut down properly (you could remove the power). Windows just writes the contents of your RAM to a file (hiberfil.sys) and when you restart the computer it will read that file and so start where it left off.
It's quite nice since boot time gets reduced a lot and you also have all programs and so on exactly as they were when you switched the PC off. I only do a real shutdown maybe once a month for updates.

hello madshi,
Do you plan to add a sharpen filter to madVR ? It's, for me, the only missing thing because the ideal to apply a sharpen filter is to apply it after resizing.
Thanks again for your really great work.
I thought there already is a sharpen filter. In the settings you can choose Lanczos for upscaling.

It's not a sharpen it's a resize filter.

Uhm... I'm experiencing an issue with madVR: if I try to run it without exclusive mode enabled, it will just crash MPC-HC more or less as soon as I try to load a video (sometimes it works for a few frames and crashes afterwards).
I tried older versions and found out that this happens starting with version 0.58. Up to version 0.57 it's fine if I disable exclusive mode, however starting with 0.58 it will just not comply if I try to. If I do keep exclusive mode enabled it all works smoothly, though.
My OS is Vista Home Premium 32bit (yeah, I'm way too lazy to update to a newer OS, what can I say) and my GPU is a GeForce 9600 GS (not GSO, just GS) if these infos can help.
Reporting this only 'cause I don't see anything similar in the known problems / limitations in the first post, personally it doesn't bother me all too much though.

mirkosp, madshi would ask for a log.
...you double click on "activate debug mode.bat". Then you reproduce the problem. Then you close the media player. Then on your desktop there'll be a new file called "madVR - log.txt". Zip it and upload it somewhere. Try to keep the log file as small as possible, though. Which means: If you don't succeed to reproduce the problem quickly, close the media player, delete the log, and try again. Once you reproduced the problem, let it stay frozen for about 5 seconds. Then close the media player. Don't unfreeze video, if you can avoid it. Thanks.

Yes it is a minor decoder issue since other decoders also playback fine, such as MPC-HC internal "Ms MPEG-4" decoder.
Thanks for testing.:)

Win7, Zoom Player, Nvdia 8600M-GS
Hi folks, I have been a long time user of madVR but on XP where I had no issues of stuttering or dropped frames even without using the exclusive fullscreen rendering mode. Now I have migrated to Windows7 and even with exclusive rendering mode I still have some stuttering and juttering on scenes with fast panning motion and such like that. I am using the same player, same codecs (ffdshow) and splitters. Are there any tweaks I can do with my Nvidia video card to hopefully cut down on some of my stuttering issues? I guess XP is/was a better OS to run videos on or there are some video card tweaks I'm definitely missing...
Thanks so much for any help/guidance...

Hi, thanks for your response. Yes I have tried that and still the same stuttering. I also have reduced the scaling algorithms (from the defaults which worked fine in XP) to no effect here on Win7. Still the slight stutter in fullscreen exclusive mode
The same vid that played perfectly fine in XP (using Haali renderer or madVR in non exclusive mode) now stutters like mad in Haali and just a tad in madVR exclusive mode here in Win7. Same player and codecs used. Which leads me to believe this is a Win7 problem. I have the newest DirectX runtimes installed. I have also messed with the "flush and no flush" settings with no improvement.
I have also now noticed that whenever I first start playing a vid (most notably a wmv file but happens with avi and mp4 files too) it will stutter the first few frames. I can then seek and there is no stuttering anymore, it's just whenever I first start the video it stutters. I didn't have this problem in XP either with madVR. If I use Haali I don't have this problem.
No others have noticed a video viewing degradation (more stuttering) when going from XP to Win7? That's the first thing I noticed, that I absolutely needed fullscreen exclusive mode otherwise all my vids stutter like mad

Does anyone know if the MPC-HT developers are going to take advantage of the 0.66 MadVR features to make the MPC-HT on subtitles, OSD etc work with MadVR in exclusive mode?
* added APIs for media player devs to draw their OSDs/GUIs in exclusive mode
* added API for media player devs to disable the madVR seekbar

Note that I can only guess since I don't have this problem myself. My next guess would be driver, then try other players. I've heard that some would disable power management on GPU to make sure it doesn't spin down too low.

I didn't read up on all the latest posts, but are these problems confirmed for 0.66:
- when skipping forward frame-by-frame in MPC-HC, after a few frames you can see jumping back and forward (window mode)
- sometimes there's some strange orange "ghosting" from a frame back in time when starting after a pause (forgot the term)

I thought this would solve my problems with uncompressed Fraps files, but it didn't. I still can't play my recordings with madVR. Could you somehow improve this or is there a workaround with MPC-HC? I don't want to switch between my standart windows player (because its crap).

Not sure if this is a MadVR issue or something else in the chain (My setup is a little esoteric). I updated everything from MadVR to ffdshow, to ReClock to MPC-HC and Lav CUVID. I began to see weird artefacts like I would get everything turn into lots of horizontal rectangles and lines either at the top of the screen or in the middle that would not go away until I replayed the videos. Then it would do it again.
Anyone else getting this on latest builds of stuff? I will have to test back with some earlier builds on this. I am hoping it's a software issue and not hardware. I did run Furmark on my video card (OC'd GTX560) and it did not give any issues like crashing or corruption. But who knows. I tried going back to stock clocking and it's still acting twitchy.

How it went:
1) Opened video file at the start in windowed mode.
2) Waited ~1 second.
3) Switched to fullscreen with automatic exclusive fullscreen on. Video got stuck at once.
4) Waited ~5 seconds and closed the player with alt+F4.

If I set ffdshow video decoder to output RGB32 and it passes through vsfilter, vsfilter seems to want to convert the rgb32 to "yv12" but what ends up is just a green screen for video.
If ffdshow video connects directly to madvr, it outputs rgb32 video without issue.
log: http://www.mediafire.com/?2xn8coxuqhabila
vsfilter osd looks as follows:
http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/1937/kdsjfkdsjf.png
and then later like this:
http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/1121/unledusg.png (image cropped)
Usually, vsfilter OSD is pretty much white text.
I tried a variety of madvr builds 0.62 and higher which all showed the same green screen.
madvr 0.61 did not connect with vsfilter.
As far as I can tell this might be a vsfilter or madvr issue, however I could not reproduce the issue with other video renderers where vsfilter would decide to connect RGB32 in and out.

It's not just RGB32, the same thing happens when attempting to pass any other color format which VSFilter accepts, with the exception of YV12. madVR seems like it may be refusing connection to anything but YV12 from VSFilter. Could the green screen issue have something to do with dynamic format change?
Edit: I really hope you fix that high CPU usage when paused bug in the next build... It's been getting semi-annoying recently, since I have a tendency to pause and do other things on the computer for a bit. CPU resources are limited on this dual-core computer.
