I have to enable "overshoot max frame latency", otherwise I get constant presentation glitches.

yes i also had to have that enabled. Setting the two bottom flush settings to "flush" helped my issue thou. I still get a few glitches when i start or search in a movie but thats normal yes?

Just can't give madshi and nev enough props for their hard work on madVR and LAV. The combination just seems so polished now.
And it's also very nice to see that the CPU load seems to have been lowered, especially in windowed mode.
Don't want to post this twice. Nev, I know you visit this thread often. :)

I now have a Radeon 6570 and use MPC-HC and LAV to playback my 1080/60p camcorder footage. With madVR selected as the renderer, my videos playback like a slide show. If I select EVR Custom Pres., my videos playback just fine.
Previous setup worked fine as well and the only difference there was the graphics card (GeForce 520) and I had CUVID enabled in the LAV video decoder settings (obviously I can't use CUVID now with my new Radeon card).
NOTE: My interlaced footage (from older camcorder) looks much better (smoother, less artifacts) with madVR and my Radeon (vs. madVR + the GeForce 520). My 720/60p GoPro footage looks good too so looks like just my 1080/60p content is an issue with madVR.
Thanks,

When doing IVTC with madVR on my PAL X-Files, I get a weird result where every other frame had combing. Like this. (http://mralpha.s3.amazonaws.com/madvr-ivtc.png)

Hi (and sorry for my ethiopic ;) )
Initialise madVR always with install.bat + XPsp3 and MPC-HC builds from xvidvideo.ru:
With 0.79 I becomes the trayicon of madVR 1 of 20 times not to show. Ok, it was not serious problem.
But with 0.80 this icon, and hereby the easy acces to the GUI, is completly lost :(
With the same mpc-hc build, same GPU, same driver. Therefore I think, this is not a mpc-hc problem -> Downgrade to 0.79, trayicon is back.

Thanks Paladin I'll try that out...first the registry clean up..i do uninstall always first but not the reg cleaner.
I decided to go for a fresh install.
It's still juddering though slightly better than before.
I am beginning to wonder if it's the Onkyo 609 amp or something else.

I'm not using reclock, i did look at that but wasn't to sure how to configure it.
Both tv and amp can handle true 1080/24.
I'm getting loads of frames dropped and presentation glitches.

You're playing at 59p, can't you switch to 50p, or (better yet) 24p and use ReClock? On that machine I'm stuck at 60Hz, which is more like 59Hz in practice. On my HTPC I can do both 50p and 24p, but I still need to turn the fields into frames. As I understand it the DVDs use a simple PAL 2:2 cadence where each progressive frame is split up into two fields, and to get the progressive stuff back you just need to stitch the fields back together again. madVR detects the cadence but is screwing up the sticking-back-up part.
Andy o
25th December 2011, 18:07
I'm not sure what madVR should do, but even if your output wasn't screwed, slowing down with ReClock to 24p and then playing at 60p (pulldown) will avoid you the higher pitch, and might just fix your problem too.

Maybe that disc isn't actually TC'ed but truely interlaced, detection of a 2:2 cadence (without misdetection) is one of the harder things.
In any case, madshi could probably use a sample file to say anything about it.

If I run it though something like QTGMC I get 50p but with duplicate frames. If I run it though TIVTC I get good looking results. It is based on this I concluded that it was 2:2 material.
EDIT: Here is a sample. (http://mralpha.s3.amazonaws.com/X-Files-cadence-sample.mkv)

Hi MikeY, im curious as to why you would want to output RGB32 from ffdshow to madVR instead of YV12?
Good question with a simple answer: I don't. :)
I was simply doing some testing because my system has a much faster CPU and FSB etc over my GPU. From my understanding, RGB outputs are (at the time of decoding prior to rendering) of higher quality. However, there is a performance hit (at the CPU level) ...while this is an issue for many people, it is not for me.
In addition, in theory, making ffdshow do the RGB conversion leaves less work for the Renderer to do on the GPU (i.e. in madVR...)
Finally, there is a greater level of control when doing this at the software level. (E.g. one can correct the colorspace in ffdshow.)
A couple years ago I had the best results using these settings.
However, madVR works so well and displays YV12 (or the now-preferred NV12) with negligible GPU difference, thus even though I have the processing power, it is not really needed anymore.
Still, I like to play around, so I was testing this scenario.
I hope that helps and I apologize if I confused anyone.

As a general rule for every question:
If everything is working fine, don't fiddle with the settings! :)
The queue size can help to give you more stable playback, but if you have no issues, just leave it at that.

Is there any news on a feature with the same function as the Autochange Fullscreen Monitor Mode in mpc-hc being added to madVR?
Would kill for this function
Often, i would be watching a movie in a window, and it's a pain trying to browse in 24hz mode.
I would just ditch madVR's refresh changer and use the one in mpc-hc but with madVR this causes other problems when you try to fullscreen certain files.
Thanks.

I can't set 48hz. Even in 24hz mode the tv is actually in 96hz, though that doesn't matter when it's being sent a 24hz signal. Though even a theoretical 48hz mode wouldn't be what i'm after, I want windowed mode to be in native hz, simple as that.
That was just one example to show where fullscreen-only refresh rate changer comes in handy, there are other reasons but there's no need to make a big deal out of the request, so I just offered one scenario.

I have no experience with the PAL versions, but as I recall from when I did my NTSC X-File sets, episodes were a mix of about 10-20% video and 80-90% film.

It's widely discussed that turning off everything except Smooth Video Playback is the way to go. YMMV however.

For the setting he's talking about, an "Off" choice doesn't make sense. Even if were available, that would turn off de-interlacing, which is NOT what is wanted. The useful choices are either "Auto" or a specific de-interlacing method.
It's my understanding that "Auto" gives you the best de-interlacing method that the card is capable of. With a decent card and cpu, it's my experience that it gives you Vector Adaptive. I use "Auto" with the expectation that it will usually give me Vector Adaptive but will fall back to another method in the unlikely event that Vector Adaptive will not work.

I would imagine it does what it states :D overshoots the standard maximum frame latency. It's not bad, just not ideal and as with all the other options in that category it's a case of it it helps, use it.

2 issues I recently came across
1) Error in installation on new laptop because InstallFilter.exe couldn't be found. Moving to the directory first with cd /d "%~dp0" fixed it. Windows 7 Home Premium x64 restricted user opening as admin. I can always reproduce it on that computer but not on 2 other computers.
2) OSD (ctrl-j) only shows on the last instance of madvr no matter where it is initialized for example
a) open up videos in 2 players with madvr
b) in first player hit ctrl-j, expect osd, but there is none
c) move to second player and the osd is showing when its expected to show in first player

Just in case, smooth video playback is not "widely discussed" to be better turned on. I haven't even seen it discussed almost at all except when ATI first introduced it with the 5000 series drivers. Then, as now (I suspect), not many people asked themselves what it really does.
It's just a dumb "smart" setting that will disable automatically any processing that the driver thinks could lead to dropped frames. Just set it to off, and if you enable some processing in the driver if you so choose, and you get dropped frames, you can choose yourself what to disable. I've never had a problem with it anyway, with the cards being recommended for madVR, it's usually a non-issue.

Mine was checked by default.

That's been there also IIRC about since the 5000 cards came out. AFAIK no one ever figured out what it does, or that it makes any difference in any configuration, at least in the couple extremely long ATI 5000 threads at AVS.

Not too sure if this is related to madvr but hoping that someone here can help me since I'm not so much of a video playback buff
I'm getting what seems to be video compression artifacts when I watch anime. (Miscolored squares and colors that shouldn't be there.) I don't get it at all with normal movies just primarily anime.
My video cards are GTX 460 Dual SLI'ed so I don't think there is a problem with my computer not being able to handle it.
I play it on MPC-HC 32-bit since 64-bit isn't supported by madvr but I've also tried it on MPC-HC 64-bit using EVR Custom and the same effect keeps happening.

Your problem isn't related to MadVR. Either the quality of your anime is poor (try playing it back on another computer for comparison) or you likely have a dodgy playback fliter or bad setup, I recommend installing CCCP (http://www.cccp-project.net/).
If you still have issues your probably best taking it to the General Discussion forum (http://forum.doom9.org/forumdisplay.php?f=8)

Hi and Happy New Year,
I have a LG 42LD450 television and have been trying to use the auto refresh rate of 23.976 to 24.00 and 29.970 to 60 in MadVr/ReClock. When I submit 1080p24 and 1080p60, MadVr will only use the first resolution submitted in the box. The EDID does not list 24p as a standard resolution, but when changing the refresh rate in CCC I am able to output this rate of 24hz.
Here is what I want to do:
23.976 to 24.00 @ 1920 x 1080p 24 exit back to 60p when done
29.970 to 60.00 @ 1920 x 1080p 60 exit back to 60p
My set up is Nvidia audio and video decoder, MadVR, MPC-HC with Media Portal as the front end. I tried Autofrequency with no luck. I followed the guide several times.
WinXP SP3

Any help would be appreciated in getting this to work.

Hi im new here and decided to sign up to ask some questions about madVR.
I installed madvr about a week ago and i rly like the improvement in picture quality. But i have one big problem. Since i installed madVR i get rly short micro judder from time to time (always at same place in a video). I checked my hardware and i only got 20% GPU and 40-50% CPU load. Also i dont have any droped/delayed frames or presentation glitches. I use mpc-hc, LAV, haali combination with madVR. If i run the movie with wmp 12 for example i get no judder at all.
If someone could mb help me with some settings to fix the judder. I am at a point where it is rly freaking me out ^^

What let you think the problem is linked to madVR ? In other words, what decoders/splitter/filters were used when using WMP ?
In another words, it may be plenty of things, don't expect answers on this thread until you really proved it is madVR the culprit... If you're unsure, open another thread where you could have help for your specific problem.

I posted up a couple of threads regarding the auto refresh rate in MadVr. I did some more testing and MadVR refresh rate does indeed work. Only on certain videos though. When playing Hancock the refresh rates stays at 60 instead switching to 24.
My chain is Nvidia Audio decoder
NVidia video decoder
MadVr
It may be that the decoder is the culprit, but not sure why the refresh works on some titles and not others. When I press control J the stats show 23.976 for all titles.
Might be a possible bug...
