Not better. REQUIRED. 32 bit all around if you want to use madVR. Period.

You cannot use a 32-bit component in a 64-bit player. If you want to use madVR, you need 32-bit everything.

For me with the nvidia purevideo codec dvds work without the dll hack
What OS are you on? Win 7? Vista? 64 bit? 32 Bit?
Getting DVD's working is about the last "essential" piece in my puzzle to go "family mainstream" with MadVR.

I have a tv that only supports pc-resolutions of 60hz. I play only 23.976 material so i get a good deal of stuttering. Would reclock be able to correct this? Seems to me that videofiles needs to be 30hz to get rid of stuttering wich makes 60hz resolutions pretty crappy and useless for moviewatching.
anything I can do guys?

ReClock can only do as much. Its hard to say if you're experiencing any issues that ReClock could fix - just try it out.
However, when running a 24p movie on a 60Hz screen, you'll always get 3:2 pulldown judder, which some people do see as stuttering.

I've tried that solution, and although I can select the main feature, I can't navigate the DVD menu structure, it only works with the mouse and not key strokes or a remote control.
I'd like to hear from folk who have got it "completely" working on Windows 7 64 bit.
Sooooo close, but sooooo far.....

so is there a way to get smooth playback on 60hz monitors???
please advise
I can't seem to get it to change to 48hz or 24hz properly (black bars around all 4 sides and fuzzy text/picture)

Are you using an Ati card? Is your display supposed to accept 720p or 1080p at 24Hz?

Huh, I just realized that MC16 is doing what ReClock does with "videoclock". Great that companies are paying attention to features like that. Anyway, madshi posted (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=62727.msg420357#msg420357) some timings to make Nvidia and ATI cards (with Powerstrip) more precise over at the JRiver forums. My 5770 reads 23.97593 or so in madVR so that's good enough for me, but lately I'm using ReClock and decoding as well. I think the only reason not to use ReClock (or I presume videoclock) is if you want to bitstream.
Big thanks for madshi and the devs at JR on MC16's addition on "videoclock" (crap name but great solution). It was a pleasure to watch the the joint devleopment of this over such a short time = another videophile option for us.

I didn't even remember I had an account at the JRiver forum, but now I remember ReClock being discussed back in the day, and the JRiver people being interested. Now they even got madVR support (though IIRC I could use it before?).

Bah, I never really noticed it. I use 23.976 Hz for my TV, but I don't really notice any difference with 60Hz (for 23.976FPS videos).
This pulldown can bother only if you focus on it. Ask a normal user (not a Doom9 member for example), he won't see any differences.
ps: for example, Tearing is *really* noticeable and boring, for everybody.

I can see it even when people are talking - in the lip motion.
But, interestingly, some devices (all at 60hz) are worse than others. My friend's PC was worse than his HD-DVD player, for instance.
It's only a problem for PC monitors these days.

I don't know which AMD CPU you have, but most modern (since the dual core era) CPUs can decode 1080p H.264. Have you tried ffdshow's ffmpeg-mt decoder (multithreaded)? It has helped me in the past.
If that doesn't help, Cyberlink's PowerDVD 9, 10 and 11's decoder can be used in "HAM" mode with madVR to use ATI Stream and that relieves the CPU a bit, but it doesn't work well for some of us. You can still try it though.

Bug report.
Entering 1080p60 in custom display switching in MadVR results in two instances of madHcCtrl in Task Manager. MPC (any version I think) crashes because of this. It only happens on the secondary display. If I open MPC on the main PC display and hit play it only loads one instance of MadVR. 1080p23 only loads one instance on any display. Just tested with 0.58 which does not exhibit this behaviour.
OK I've looked a little deeper and it appears to be that in 0.61 when switching to 60Hz from another refresh rate MadVR is not releasing the previous instance or is loading a new instance of madHcCtrl. If the display is already set to 60Hz it only loads one instance. In 0.58 when it switches there only ever remains a single instance of madHcCtrl.
Cyberlink's PowerDVD 9, 10 and 11's decoder can be used in "HAM" mode with madVR to use ATI Stream.
10 is better. And it seems like HAM uses OpenCL technology, not Stream.

Personal experience only. Links to russian forums won't help to mach I guess. In short words: 10 works a bit better with bad encoded videos.
and how it's using OpenCL?
Some people found HAM showing Bitstream with Nvidia cards. If that's true, HAM doesn't use ATI Stream and what is left? Can't check it by myself.

Does Cyberlink HAM mode provide access to hardware deinterlacing (vector adaptive?)?

can someone explain why with no dropped frames or glitches i still get repeat frames every few minutes. ( i dont see them though just notice it in the stats)
nevcairiel
13th May 2011, 12:22
If your display refresh rate is higher then the video frame rate, madVR will need to repeat a frame once in a while to keep sync with audio in check. If your refresh rate is lower then the audio, it'll have to drop frames.
If you do not see them, then don't worry too much about it. Maybe madVR will at some point be able to track repeated frames as well, which would give you an indication if the estimated statistic was right.

my refresh rate for 23.976 is 23.977 so i would have thought that the repeated frames would be a lot less tham every few minutes?

If you let ReClock do its job, then yes, it'll make that better.
Does Cyberlink HAM mode provide access to hardware deinterlacing (vector adaptive?)?
Can't say. In my system for 1080i video CPU load is about ~50%, deinterlacing looks ok, CCC keeps VA stable. You can take 1080i video and check the difference with EVR CP for HAM and DXVA. I didn't try it.

How do you get subtitles when using madVR. I have MPC-HC 3104 (x86) and madVR 0.61 and I just can't get subtitles to work. The .srt file has the same file name and is in the same folder but still it doesn't load, and when I drag and drop the .srt file into the MPC-HC window, playback stops and it says 'cannot render the file'.

Yes but you need a powerful system to run MadVR + realtime frame interpolation. (if by frame interpolation you meant something like frame doubling)

madshi, I have 1080i59, 1080p23, and 1080p50 in that order, in the auto rate change options. When I play a 59/60p video, madVR switches to the 23p option. Is it supposed to work that way? I'd rather have it switch to 1080i59. I don't have 1080p59 in the options cause I'd rather have the 29.97 fps videos play at 1080i59, and if I have 1080p59 there, 1080i gets ignored in its favor.

What is the minimum system to achieve MadVR and FI such Interframe/SVP?
Please list the least expensive configurations neccessary to achieve Madvr+FI on 1080p
Thanks
Also, which is best bang for the buck for HTPC applications
NVIDIA or AMD?

I can't exactly answer that question, but I have some input. I tried SVP yesterday just to see how it looks. My setup barely made it for 720p and default profile for i7-920. You can choose other profile I guess.

after switching over to win 7 64 from XP, the performance has decreased quite a bit for me and I now get dropped and delayed frames which has not been the case with XP before. windows mode is especially bad. Ive already set disable desktop composition which helped a little, but only for exclusive mode, as I dont really want this to happen in general, when I can still see the desktop in windowed mode. any more ideas?

I have a similar system and everything runs excellent, make sure you have Smoothvision Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic set to Application settings.
If your still getting dropped frames play round with the options under and including 'present several frames in advance' personally I don't need to touch any of them and have 3 frames presented in advance.
Under General settings you could also try 'use a separate device for presentation and use D3D11 but again I have not needed to use these to get problem free playback.
Check your CPU and GPU load (Task manager/Resource Monitor, GPU-Z) to make sure something something else isn't eating your CPU and to see how your GPU is coping with your settings.
Lastly you could also look at your scaling algorithms but given the performance of the 4770 you you shouldn't have any issues running at the most demanding settings here.

Yes and yes. Neither the built-in subtitle engine in MPC-HC, nor directvobsub is working, the latter I don't even want to use. The subtitle works, just not when using madVR, and now I found out it doesn't work when using Haali either. It only works with WMR and EVR.

I find I have to keep my CPU load below 60% or so with post-processing or I get dropped frames, there is no option that fixes that, obviously one or more of the cores is maxed out in that situation.
My 6670 however is cruising along at only around 30% usage with my current settings. You could give madVR061vsync a go on page 378 if you haven't already.

try changing to another version of mpc-hc, maybe its a bug. or try complete uninstall and then reinstall mpc-hc again.
