View Full Version : BD Rebuilder Beta - Bug Reports Only

Yes indeed, I've seen it and it's correct...
As is the clpi, it does give the video as 16:9 (I opened it with CLIPINF editor). In the output video, the clpi files reads the a:r as 4:3
All the encodes (2 others : The Professionals and Southland tales) had the same problem. I had used older versions bdrebuilder on 3 or 4 bd's and did not have any problem.
Any DirectShow script I open (whether the source is a vob file or a mkv ) has the same problem. It opens as 4:3 with black bars ! I have to believe that something else besides BD-RB or is at fault for this... its possible it could be the decoder.

I get that EXACT problem with "The Day The Earth Stood Still"...
jdobbs can you double check your backup works fine because this seems like abit too much of a coincence to me :) I watched the whole movie, and jumped between chapers several times.
I'll run it again and see if I find anything different. I also got a different brand of player today (SAMSUNG) so I can do some testing outside of my Sony (which seems fairly invulnerable).
I really can't think of anything that has changed that might even be remotely related to that... but I'll go back over ALL the changes.

i tested my rip on a ps3, with phillips bd-r and memorex (ritek) bdr, burned at 2x and 4x, and still had those problems... i ripped some days ago with v.0.23.02 my within temptation concert and burnt it at 4x and played fine on my ps3 (with memorex, didnt have any phillips in that time), but it seems like the lastest beta had problems with pip, at least for me and Furiousflea

I can also report exactly the same behaviour as previous speakers with PiP movies. I just tested King Kong on my PS3. Everything works flawlessly except it freezes at every chapter after 2-5 seconds. Also VID_00289 was the one needed multiplexing if I remember correctly. When BD-RB were multiplexing it froze up and did not respond for half a minute. Then % jumped up alittle and it froze again over and over. CPU and memory usage was not much at all. Max 10%.

yeap it seems that the problem it still there on the lastest beta, cause everything worked fine on v.0.23.02
Btw jdobbs my fooo fighters wembley bluray on full disc it plays on the ps3, but i cant select anything on the menu, it doesnt highlight anything! what do you suggest me to do?
pd: LowDead do you use bd-re on your ps3?

Dunno on the BD-RE. But I'm pretty sure that the problem we're expericening is due to the PIP tracks on the discs. I know Kung Fu Panda has at least 2 video tracks in the main movie.
I'll bet that the older version works fine. Is this behaviour only on PiP sources? If so -- it may be the way in which TSMUXER creates the M2TS. My player doesn't support PiP and maybe that's why it plays it back without issue...
It may be a good idea just to disable PiP support on the next release until I get a better feel for what's going on. I can probably make them encode/play correctly -- but without the PiP.
I took the Samsung back... too many of my backups won't play on it.

I've only done 2 discs with the latest beta. 1 with PiP (TDTESS) and "Inside Man" which doesn't have PiP. Inside Man plays fine no issues...
So I'd assume it's defo only affecting PiP discs.
I don't mean to patronise but have you signified to tsmuxer that the 2nd video track is a PiP track when muxing...Thanks for the hard work and bug squashing. BDRB is really developing into superb project.

I always convert down to 720p because I have a 720p TV; to save space with file sizes; and to preserve quality in comparison to 1080p with the same DVD-5 size.
This program looks like a wonderful creation for quick and easy backups. I've converted two moves and each of them come out at 1080p with a very large black border around the edges almost as if the picture was resized to 720p within a larger 1080p encode. I have the 720p option checked in the settings.
I read elsewhere in this thread there is a bug and suggestions to fix it. I just wondered if someone could tell me the quick and dirty method so I don't have to reencode over and over until I find it myself.
Thanks in advance!

It uses an odd PID, though, compared to original discs -- but I change it to match in the MPLS before burning.

Probably too late now, but Fry's had a 1 day sale for $199.99 for the BDP-360 for 4th of July sale.

That would have been nice. But there's no Fry's near me. I got it at a reasonable price at Wal-Mart.

I could have told you that! :) On the other hand, if you can get the Samsung to play everything as well as your BDP-S300, you'd be a real hero.
I think you'd be better to stick with the Sony players since they are better supported by the manufacturer than any other brand, and they are so competitively priced for basic models. The BDP-S360 would probably be a good choice, or the BDP-BX2 from Walmart/Sam's Club. Both are likely to be big sellers and have many more features than the BDP-S300. I think Sony will necessarily be the standard that all other brands will eventually have to meet.... given their prominent position on forcing Blu-Ray as the defacto HD standard over HD-DVD. The PS3 would also be a good choice because its infinitely upgradeable and the installed base is already pretty large.
Just one man's opinion.....

To be honest...I had a Samsung BDP1500 and it played every backup I ever made with BD Rebuilder.
The PS3 was a given...99% of the time but I could always count on that Sammy.
Just thought I would share that.

It's a problem with Direct Show filters. Something is on which forces 4:3 (Just saw that BS Player resizes all my avis -which I hadn't used for a long time- to 4:3 with black bars. ) Anyone know where I can get info about that ?

I've only done 2 discs with the latest beta. 1 with PiP (TDTESS) and "Inside Man" which doesn't have PiP. Inside Man plays fine no issues...
So I'd assume it's defo only affecting PiP discs.
I don't mean to patronise but have you signified to tsmuxer that the 2nd video track is a PiP track when muxing...Thanks for the hard work and bug squashing. BDRB is really developing into superb project. Well, I did "Day the Earth Stood Still" again last night. It works completely on my Sony BDP S-360, including the PiP... I ran it on my internal test version of v0.24.3... which has some additional changes but nothing that is related to this...

Well in reviewing the code, I think I may have found something. Hopefully it'll help with the issue you've experienced. Interesting, though, that the Sony plays it anyway.

same problem with batman begins :(, on windows 7 rc, can anyone help me with this movie and bd-rebuilder? sorry if had been discussed before, im new at this site, and checked several pages but my eyes cant take it anymore! thx in advance!
You need to make sure your running the registy edit properly. I have Win7 RC1 and i do all my backups just fine. Just completed Batman Begins the other day as reported back a few pages ago.
I messed around with it for over 2 hrs till BD-RB started to work. Problem is, this isn't a released ver. of Windows so JDobbs doesnt' support it.
If you aren't comfortable with playing in the registry you might want to move away from Win7 for now.

Everything works perfect for Batman Begins. It doesn't matter that it converted from VC-1 to H264. The only thing you will find not working is the PiP. it will work but with no audio.
I must say is that total time 5-6 hrs for a full bd-25 backup? You must have a beefy i7 or something b/c on my Quad Core it takes like 14hr+ to do a full bd-25 :D

@jdobbs;
I have been trying to back up Die Hard 2, region A, full movie backup, keep DTS HD Master audio, to BD-25, but am having confusing results. I initially tried with BD-RBV02402, and reported that the HD audio is silent on playback on my BDP-BX1, but is heard on the computer, and you mentioned nothing has changed with regards to this issue. So I tried it again with BD-RBV02302, and experienced the same results. One more try with BD-RBV02402 except I chose to Do Not Convert DTS to AC3. This time the audio is heard, but is only DTS, not DTS HD Master.
Anal as I can be at times, I tried a movie only backup to BD-25, keep HD Audio, and this time it works. Audio is heard and is DTS HD Master, per my HD receiver.
So I am curious why on a full movie backup it does not work, but on a movie only it does?
I have also successfully backed up two more full movie backups, with DTS HD Master audio, since Die Hard 2, with BD-RBV02402.

hahahaha i wish man! id been thinking to make the move to i7, but i spent 300$ on 30 bd-r and the lg bluray writer, and last week i bought a panasonic lumix dmc-zs3 (can record video in hd as avchd lite, 1280x720), so for the moment im broke! :(
5-6 hours left i meant... now 4 hours left! i got an e8400 oced to 3.6 ghz! so it should take like 20 hours for batman!

I can get the .ac3 to play, but it is only 2 channel DD. The DTS HD is not 7.1.
It does work properly with movie only BD-25!!
Just will not work with full movie backup to BD-25.
EDIT:
I guess my confusion comes from a movie only backup to BD-25 with DTS HD Master audio works fine. Full movie has only silence.
I have successfully made full backups to BD-25 with HD DTS Master audio for Die Hard and Die Hard 3(With a Vengeance), and will be testing Live Free or Die Hard soon.

but i supose this will affect the final quality right? quicker for encoding, less quality? :D

but i supose this will affect the final quality right? quicker for encoding, less quality? :D Not really. BD-25 gives you a lot of room for bitrate -- and X264 is a very good encoder.
The trade off is more between sizing accuracy and speed than quality and speed. I've put some variables in to help smooth it out as folks test it, though.

tick "Keep HD Audio" in the options menu. Make sure you are encoding to BD25 size as PCM audio takes masses of space and is definately not worth keeping on a DVD9 backup unless you are doing pristine quality animation bluray with virtually no extras.
The setting only becomes active if you set the desired output size to *above* the defauly DVD9 output size.
I wouldn't recommend using it for DVD9 output unless you really know what you are doing anyway.

This is quite strange I've encountered the same thing but with "Take That The Ultimate Tour" bluray music video disc. After encoding, the menu overlay text isn't there. Just a video that plays on a loop and you can't play anything.
This was tested in PowerDVD9 and on version 0.23.03 but I assume that hasn't been fixed yet. See my post 2\3 pages back on the issue.

I think everyone knows you have problems with your Foo Fighters disc by now. I'm sure jdobbs has added it to his rather lengthy "to do" list. In the meantime, just do what the rest of us do... put it aside until the issues have been addressed in an update. :)
Even in the DVD world, music video products are a little different critter than regular movies.

thanks for response flea, I fooled with some settings last night. Here is what I did:ticked"do not con. dts"
ticked"do not reencode ac3"
ticked"use 448 for ac3"
ticked"keep haudio" Now heres the thing, I manually removed all extras, leaving only the menu and main(2 part)title. Everything seems to have worked. I will burn test and report back. Here is a copy of my setup:

Hi all,
With backup of Animatrix BD : got a new problem
I had kept only DD EN, DD THD EN, DD FR for audio and all PGS tracks in requested parameters. All seemed well processed into log file.
When I look at my main movies m2ts files with TSmuxR : I see my 3 audio tracks and all PGS like asked to BD_RB
But when I run a BD-RE burned disc with my PS3, I can play only FR audio and FR PGS track... Other operations are not possible...
I don't know why this beahviour : I have got many successful RIP with BD_RB in similar conditions...
Perhaps I can correct wrong status with BDedit to find back all my tracks available with my PS3 ? But I am not enough an "easy player" with BDedit to find the right changes (I can just change region code... :))
Thanks in advance for your help...

Just had the GUI issue, no hWnd returned. error
(first time ive ever had this issue)
It happened when the encode finished the first pass and was starting the second but displayed before the encode had started and the x264 window had no information to return.
So maybe the problem could be that the GUI is trying to retrieve this information too early on some computers possibly when other tasks are running that could be delaying the start (The disk was under load when this occured)
