You're probably ok with that size. The default setting for BD-25 within BD-RB has been 23000 -- but I've recently changed it to 23400 for v0.21.07. The 23000 setting was giving me output that averaged around 21.8 - 21.9GB (~23,489,500,000 bytes), but the variation could be pretty large. A fully packed BD-R should be about 23866kb (23.3GB).
I'll how the new size works out -- if I get a lot of oversizing reports (I don't expect to), I'll back it back down.
i mostly do MOVIE only---and 24500 works just fine about 95% of the time
this gives me OutPut =~>> 24700--24900
i do notice when i do FULL backUp on Concerts---need to back setup down 24000--24300
just did Gimme Shelter at FULL (left it at 24500) ==>> 24.989
i keep a LOG of these #s (setting & Final Size) and i just dithered the SetUp Sizes in my head....
coming up with 24500 seems to work 19 out of 20 times (Movie Only)
Goal was to use as much of the 25GB BD-R as possible
w/Memorex BD-R 4x media my Media Fail rate is about 3%
i have done around 360+ Blu-Rays to date

First of all first JDobbs rate job so far, have done a few with no problems at all, however I did a full BD25 backup of Riddick and the PIP comes on when selected in U-Control but does not have any sound. The main movie sound track fades as on the original disc but the PIP is silent.
Just working on Death Race which also has U-Control to see if it happens again.
Is this a known problem?

@Movie Dude;
If the secondary PiP audio is DTS Express, BD-RB/tsMuxeR cannot decode/process it. The only PiP secondary audio you will have success with is DD Plus.:(

Please allow me to help a user not make the same stupid mistake that I just made. I searched here and did not see it mentioned.
While waiting for the new 0.31.06 version to download, I uninstalled the associated programs (Haali, Avisynth, FFDshow) in order to update them to the latest versions. When done, BDRebuilder would not work for any file, stating:
"This is not an EBML file (id=0/440786851
[16:32:18] - Failed to build structure, aborted"
After much experimenting I discovered that Avisynth 2.58 was the cause of the problem. I re-DL'd Avisynth 2.57 from Mr. Dobbs link and voilã, all is well again.

@Priapismic;
Though I do not dispute your claim to use the versions jdobbs recommends, I have been using Avisynth 2.58 for more than 1 year without any problems. I believe either Haali or ffdshow, with ffdshow settings, being more likely the culprit.

This isn't the first time that AVISYNTH 2.58 has been identified as the issue in a failure -- that's why I have 2.57 linked in this thread. I have no idea why it causes problems.

@jdobbs
At the risk of being (more of) a pest (than usual), I've just used v.31.06 and have determined that the situation regarding HDDVD compliance versus version of x264.exe being used continues. to refresh your memory, please click on the following and read two or three posts starting with #22:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1354557#post1354557
If you now find that it's not feasible for you to provide a "fix" (a simple "if/then" trigger to activate the needed x264.exe and add the two needed lines to the .Ini - and reverse the procedure if "HD-DVD Compliant" is not selected?) from within BD-RB, I (and others)can just continue to manually make the necessary swaps whenever I/we have need to create an HD-DVD.

Can you elaborate a bit more. I am a bit confused and don't really understand what you did to overcome the issue. Thanks.
Ok, let’s hope my English is good enough to explain what I meant to say… Suppose you have a movie with three audio and subpicture tracks: English, German and Spanish muxed in the original file in this order, and that these subpicture tracks also include the forced subs (via a forced flag), then after using BD-Rebuilder to get a movie only backup as I would like to have by default Spanish audio & forced subs, with tsMuxeR I remux the movie placing both Spanish audio and subs before English and German tracks. That’s it now when I play the movie I’ll have Spanish audio and Spanish forced subs (if I wanted the complete Spanish/English/German subtitles played by default I could enable them using BD Correct or BDEdit).
Greetings

@Capsbackup
It's possible. With the likelihood of there being dozens of variables in the makeup of our respective computers, it would difficult to isolate the exact cause. What I can say for certain is that downgrading Avisynth was the only change made to return to functionality, and I use good controls when experimenting. Since v.2.58 works for you then clearly there exists one or more unknown variables.
@Mr. Dobbs
Sir, may I inquire, with all sincerity, as to your health? With the expiration of 0.31.05 I realized that your hard work could come to naught should you also, Lord forbid(!) expire as well. I have just made a small donation (beemer...) in hopes that it will contribute towards whatever medical care you may, now or in the future, require. And I believe I speak for all of your devoted fans when I ask; did you happen to leave a non-expiring version with your attorney?

Hello Everybody,
Does anyone know how to bypass this error? Or what the problem is. I saw that skylab has the same problem on page 328. But no one had respond to him.
The problem is that at the end of bd rebuilder. There occurs an error. "CopyDirStructure"
I poste the log with this message
Thanks in Advance,
Ronald

That is a "path not found" error in attempting to copy unmodified source files from the original to the destination. The action is just a set of operating system calls, one that looks for the file, and then one that immediately copies it. My best guess would be a corrupt source.
I see a huge gap between 03:11:30 and 07:54:10. I assume an error message was displayed. Can you tell me what it said?

Well, you have NOT spoken for this fan!!
I am quite sure that jdobbs has not put all this effort and time into this program for the few donations he has recieved. This is beta software, and he has the right to stop or continue as he pleases. Based on his previous DVD-RB, I do not think his goal is anything but reaching toward perfection.
When the time comes for him to release a non-beta version, there is no evidence or past track record to suggest it will expire.
I am greatful for your continued generosity jdobbs, and will continue testing and buying BD-RB when you feel the time is right! :)

maybe he will upload the source code :rolleyes: Yep, that's kinda' the idea. I always put out a new release long before it expires. The expiration is to help prevent me from having to keep responding to errors that have already been fixed. It's a lesson I learned well in my DVD Rebuilder beta testing.

Try this:
http://www.ascentive.com/support/new/libraryfiles.exe
It installs a bunch of missing DLLs and other components required for some programs, worked like a charm for me!
I can confirm that on a PC with Windows 7 64bit this was the only way to start BDR

jdobbs,
Are you planning to add a forced subtitle option in the next release ? I'm not sure what I'm adding in the next release. I've been really busy with the real (paying) job, and haven't had much time to work on BD-RB for the last couple weeks. What I've done so far are some changes to make it more error resilient and also report them better so I can debug them.

This is a great find, but a VERY long thread!! I have bounced around looking for answer to my issue but have not found 1 so i am just going to ask. I am backing up my bluray disc collection and coping to BD-R25 dics, movie only, most i can can put on disc because its under 25 gigs but i have a few movies that go over and i need to shrink it down to fit this is why i need this program.
I installed BD-Re-builder and also the FFDShow and Media splitter and went into the FFDShow, video decoder congf. and made sure mpeg2 is enabled(libavcodec) and when i go into the extracted BD Re builder folder and try running program, I get an error. it says:
it appears your windows7 may not be configured for use with FFDSHOW. BD-Re-builder can attempt to configure you system for you. this involves making changes to the Direct Show REGISTRY. failure to do so may result in out of sync audio or encode failures. Would you like BD Rebuilder to do this for you?
so I choose "YES"
and it says:
BD Re-builder is not running with administrative privileges...bla bla
but I am logged in as the computer administrator?? so what can I do? Many Thanks RiZ

Hello,
I have the configuration set like in the first post of this thread.
I wanted to rebuild a BD (decrypted by DVDFab who can select only one sound track but only in "movie only" mode) by just suppress one of the 2 audio tracks of my BD "drag me to hell" (french version).
First, all things seemed to be ok, but after 5 minutes i have a "BD Rebuilder experienced an error 1801 ReencodeAudio() 0075 1801" !?
And why (the hell ;-) ) does he want to reencode ? I just need to suppress the second sound track to fit in 25g.

But well.. it seems there is a bug.I can't tell from the way it is worded and I'm really not familiar with DVDFab -- did you remove any audio during the rip? When BD-RB pulls info from the MPLS related to audio -- it assumes the M2TS files hasn't been manipulated in any way. The Error "75" means there was an attempt to access a nonexistent path/name. My guess might be that BD-RB tried to extract an audio stream from the M2TS -- and it wasn't there when it later tried to access it for reencoding.
It (the hell :-)) encodes when it is told to do so by the settings in the SETUP page. But, if the audio was missing because of manipulation it would still get an error (even if not reencoding) when it tried to mux the missing audio stream later.
Like I said, I'm not sure what you may have done during the rip -- but BD-RB always needs to work with an unedited original source (except, of course, for decrypting alone). You can never be sure what/how other programs decide to do what they do when they change the authoring (like removing streams, etc).

Not absolutely sure if this is a bug or something *I'm* missing, (GREAT program BTW), but I ran BDR under Vista a LOT (set up exactly as per instructions) and never had a problem. I compressed a lot of blu-ray (MO mode)to DVD5 and never had a problem. But my HD died so I installed Windoze 7 Ultimate and BDR (again following instructions exactly. Now, no matter what movie I try and compress, I get the same result - failed to video encode. MPEG2 encoding IS enabled and VC-1 IS set to wmv9. This is the latest error log.

Please dont flame me i am a NOOB, Thanks RiZ:) You have to mount it (e.g. with Daemon Tools) if it is an ISO and then point BD-RB to the mounted drive. Even better, instead of ripping to an ISO, simplly copy the BDMV and CERTIFICATE folders to a folder on your hard drive (named after the disc). Then you can point to that with BD-RB.

This caused BD Rebuilder to freeze..
But i guess you will say me it is not a BD Rebuilder bug..
btw i don't know why "FFMPeg encoder" is grey : i have ffdshow 3128.

I can't tell from the way it is worded and I'm really not familiar with DVDFab -- did you remove any audio during the rip? When BD-RB pulls info from the MPLS related to audio -- it assumes the M2TS files hasn't been manipulated in any way. The Error "75" means there was an attempt to access a nonexistent path/name. My guess might be that BD-RB tried to extract an audio stream from the M2TS -- and it wasn't there when it later tried to access it for reencoding.
My decrypted files coming from DVDFab are the result of a "full disc" decrypt : nothing is removed or compressed.
Maybe the bug came from my check of "limit to one track for each language" in BD-RB whereas i, after, selected 2 tracks for the VID_00002.
I don't understand how to ask in setup BD-RB to not reencode :
the box for "do not convert DTS to AC3" is checked, the box "do not reencode AC3" is checked, the box "Keep HD audio for BD25 encoding" is checked. And nothing is checked in "video encoding options". What else ?
Is this because i selected target size BD-25 (and not custom size) ?
BD-RB itself automaticaly filled a "custom target size" to 23450Megabytes

Hello peeps,
simple question (maybe already answered but its too long to read all..) is there any way to tell BD-RB to not touch the original video at all? since i have a couple BD that are just slighty over the BD25 size, so i could just remove some not needed languages to make them fit on my blank disks.

EDIT: Nevermind, i just saw that the software automagically knows what to do :)

You have to mount it (e.g. with Daemon Tools) if it is an ISO and then point BD-RB to the mounted drive. Even better, instead of ripping to an ISO, simplly copy the BDMV and CERTIFICATE folders to a folder on your hard drive (named after the disc). Then you can point to that with BD-RB.
Thank you for the prompt answers. RiZ

Hello,
I've used make MKV and multiAVCHD to make a movie only Blu-Ray structure, which works correctly, and now I'd like to use BD Rebuilder to make it fit on a BD-25 disc. My Blu-Ray reauthored with multiAVCHD is very simple: one playlist, and one 27GB M2TS. When I start BD Rebuilder on this structure, it fails with the following output :
[17:57:03] BD Rebuilder v0.31.06 (beta)
- Source: AVCHD
- Input BD size: 26,88 GB
- Approximate total content: [02:32:52.159]
- Target BD size: 22,46 GB
- Windows Version: 6.1 [7600]
- MOVIE-ONLY mode enabled
- Audio Settings: AC3=0 DTS=0 HD=1 Kbs=448
- Resuming from previously started job.
[17:57:05] PHASE ONE, Encoding
- [17:57:05] Reencoding: VID_00000 (1 of 1)
- [17:57:05] Collecting video information

- Rate/Length: 23,976fps, 219.912 frames
- Bitrate: 17.077 Kbs
- [17:57:05] Reencoding: VID_00000, Pass 1 of 2
- Encode failed. Retrying.
- Encode failed. Retrying.
- Reached retry limit. Aborting.
- FFDSHOW Revision: (3207)
[17:57:09] - Failed video encode, aborted
I've looked in the destination folder. The generated AVS doesn't play the m2ts. I've been to #avisynth on irc.freenode.net where I've been told to install AviSynth plugin FFMpegSource2 http://code.google.com/p/ffmpegsource/.
With this plugin the video is simply loaded by the code :
FFMpegSource2("C:\BUFFER\MKV\AVCHD\BDMV\STREAM\00000.m2ts")
(Unfortunately I couldn't verify if my idea would work with BD Rebuilder because when it resumes from a previous job, the AVS is overwritten, and if you protect the file from writing, job is canceled :/)

I have sucessfully done edits in multiAVCHD and used BDRB to resize. To me, and I am no expert, it looks as though you have authored your output from multiAVCHD to AVCHD and not BDRA. (blu ray compliant)

Hi!
Try the following, VERY similar (and always successful) procedure that I've used literally dozens of times:
1) Use MakeMKV to both rip your original BluRay disc and create a "movie-only" .MKV from the primary title (exclude the subtitles)
2) Load/Drag and Drop the MKV into tsMuxeR GUI, click on the "BluRay" radiobutton in the "Output" section - and click on the "Start muxing" radiobutton

I've built a Blu-Ray compliant structure for all Blu-Ray players though
I've found a "hack" to make BD Rebuilder start processing with my custom AVS which uses FFMpegSource2 :
Open a Command prompt (cmd.exe) in your working directory
- Let BD Rebuilder fail once with its own AVS script
- Type copy /y <yourCustomAVSUsingFFMPegSource2> (DO NOT TYPE RETURN !!!!)
- When BD Rebuilder asks you if you want to retry encoding the Blu-Ray because the folder is not empty, click yes but you'll have to be quick because it will write VID_00000.AVS which you don't want. So quickly click on your cmd window and press RETURN.
I've done that and finally BD Rebuilder started to process my disc :).

I have been using multiAVCHD also and I noticed that you are trying to create a " MOVIE ONLY " disk. If you want to create the MENU and then use BD_Rebuilder you need to create an "AVCHD" disk and then use BD_Rebuilder to compress the output as a "FULL" disk backup and leave everything intact. I have lots of luck using "CLOWN_BD": as frontend to remove all the "EXTRA STUFF" leaving just the movie and audio tracks I want and then using multiAVCHD to make custom "MENU" and compress with BD_Rebuilder. Lots of steps but turns out good results when you have episodic disks like Band of Brothers.

My goal is to make a movie only disc. I've used MakeMKV to extract main movie, then multiAVCHD to recreate a BD structure, now I want to recompress it.
I'm just trying to make BD rebuilder not crash when I make a main movie only rip, which is always what I'm interested in. I'm now wondering if those multiAVCHD steps are not useless now that I'm using FFMpegSource2 but I'm just experimenting :).
Edit: I meant for this Blu-Ray, main movie backup crashed and full backup crashed too so I'm trying alternate methods.

Sorry I misunderstood also, I wonder why you need anything but BD_Rebuilder if ONLY movie + audio & subs is needed. You really don't need anything else.

1) Have you tried my first suggestion (Use tsMuxeR)?
2) Why don't you simply use multiAVCHD to also compress?

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks in advance
If I'm posting in the wrong area, I apologize. I really have tried searching for answers before asking.. All files (ffdshow, avisynth, x264), are the versions suggested at the beginning, all the settings are as suggested, I've tried every combination of settings I can think of, and I'm still getting the same failure. Is it just that I should go back to Vista? I'd rather not, but the encodes I WAS getting with this great program would be worth it.
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated..

This is a BD-RB bug reports thread, and jdobbs has repeatedly said he will not and cannot reply and help out when preprocessing is done.
Make MKV may work fine, as might DVDFab HD, but AnyDVD HD is and has been the most consistent and reliable ripper.
BD-RB is designed to work on a full disc rip, which can than be converted to a movie only or a full backup, but the original structure is the source to work with. Any other method is preprocessing. I have done other methods myself, but do not and will not report a bug from the results, nor should it be reported here in this thread.
There are other methods to get movie only backups, but I think this thread should respect the wishes and demands of the software developer!

I am well aware of the purpose of this thread - and my (useful) response to "shiva-x" (about tools specifically used by "shiva-x") would, hopefully, result in the end of postings mistakenly made to this thread about this by "shiva-x" ;>}

I just encountered odd behavior with v.0.31.06 that is quite similar (if not identical)to what I believe was twice previously reported:
I had BD-RB processing "Amelia" (movie-only) while I was surfing. I also had two windows open in Explorer. BD-RB was minimized.
As soon as BD-RB reached 100% (but not totally finished), the mouse ceased functioning.
I left the machine for about three minutes and returned to find that everything was fine - mouse okay, Explorer windows okay, and BD-RB had completed its task.
Any thoughts?

Hello,
I have the configuration set like in the first post of this thread.
I wanted to rebuild a BD (decrypted by DVDFab who can select only one sound track but only in "movie only" mode) by just suppress one of the 2 audio tracks of my BD "drag me to hell" (french version).
After the workaround for my previous bug (see previous post) i have now another bug after a few hours of reencoding :
"x264.exe has stopped working" window (i am on windows 7).
This caused BD Rebuilder to freeze..
But i guess you will say me it is not a BD Rebuilder bug..
btw i don't know why "FFMPeg encoder" is grey : i have ffdshow 3128.1. That's the wrong version of FFDSHOW (see the first post of this thread) so it is quite obvious that you DON'T have your configuration "like in the first post of this thread" -- which, of course make me assume there are probably other misconfigured settings too.
2. FFMPEG is not the same thing as FFDSHOW. Ignore the greyed out choice.
3. Most of the time if you see that error it is a system instability. Are you overclocked?

I got that ""x264.exe has stopped working" window" yesterday when I got impatient with my Windoze 7 problems and put the old Windoze Vista HD back in my system. It encoded a movie fine - until 99.75 % done (22 hrs) and then gave me that error. I quit BDRB and tried to shut down and restart the computer. The HD was no longer being recognized by the computer, so I'm figuring that THAT was the problem. That was also the reason I tried the Windoze 7 installation on a new drive.
And BDRB is working fine on that dirive now, BTW. I just reinstalled BDRD over what was there and tried it for the hell of it before I reinstalled Vista. It just started working fine. I've got no clue what the problem could have been.
