With the following thread, and a little math, you should be able to predict just what kind of gain you'll see ;) I've thought about 1090t, but I don't think it'll be worth it to me. I do an encode at night, and an encode before I leave for work. The only thing that would help me any more, MIGHT be 8 core bulldozer. But that sucker is a power hungry freak, to say the least! LOL! Sorry about off topic :S

Test of DTSExpress:

Used v.39.04 to once again make a 25Gb Full Disc backup of "Sourcecode". Unfortunately, when played back on my SONY 360, the results were the same as my efforts with earlier versions of BD-RB - the video portion of the PIP activity displayed properly, but were silent. Considering the less than ordinary multiple PIP activity options and the publisher's heavy duty messing around with this disc's playlists, I'll try a more pedestrian disc containing DTSExpress.

- Added code to check requirements and prevent
reencoding when an AC3 source (or its core) does
not require processing to meet target specs.
Note: Some settings such as AUDIO_AMPLIFY, "Use
192Kbs for AC3...", and "Use 448Kbs for AC3..."
will force reencoding.
[/code]

Much appreciated.

A line in the audio avs file "audio=NicDTSSource("00082.track_4352.dts", Channels=2).Amplify(1)
ConvertAudioTo16bit(ResampleAudio(audio, 48000))"

Does "Amplify (1) indicate that amplification has been selected? Is that a default setting?

My ini doesn't contain the line "AUDIO_AMPLIFY=n" so can I assume a forced re-encode based upon that parameter will not take place.

(1x the original volume). A forced reencode would only take place on a value other than 1. Your log will clearly tell you whether (or not) the audio was reencoded.

I see you have the new AMD 6-core chip can you maybe post some timings to this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=152770)

Suggestions in this post (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1513682#post1513682)on what info to provide in the post and you can view my example post at end of thread as well.

I would love to see how fast this processor can complete most BD recodes and what its HD x264 benchmark results are.

Hi Jfcarbel, When I solve the problems with the second pass will be happy to participate.

thanks

Hi!

I was going to use the original (1968) "Planet of the Apes" to test the DTSExpress function in v.39.04, but I can't, because after loading it into BD-RB v.39.04 the main .M2TS file (Over 46Gb) was not listed in the main window.

Is there a way to get around this?

I did not see any changes/corrections that addresses DTS Express in BD-RBV03904.
Interesting that the Sony Blu-ray players were the most compatible for AVCHD and Blu-ray backups when BD-RB was first released, but perhaps not anymore! :(

Has there been any helpful developments that may make BD-25 backups of DTS Express discs compatible with Sony players (and others)?

Can you try it with v0.39.03 and see if it still misses it? I can't think of any changes that might affect that, though.

I'll run some tests.

Bummer, still no 3rd option "output path" or selectable "audio notification" instead of the beep. Any update on that, or that language thing we pmed about a while back? I just added a hidden option to point to an alternate .WAV file for the "beep". You'll see it in the next release.

Not sure when I'll implement alternate languages. The problem is that I have to go through the entire program and replace static text with variables. That's not a minor task.

Well if ya need me for testing or changing things, ya know where to find me. (though i'll understand if ya don't, probably would need source code access). Now get to work on that output path( jk lol) ^^. Wish i could donate but i don't have the funds. All i can offer for now is my utmost respect & gratitude for this wonderfull piece of freeware :)

the "r:" prefix, BD-RB will add the specified
filter after the resizing stage (rather than the
default of before). :):):)

Both v.39.03 and 39.04 show the same information under the "Stream" tab regarding the original "Planet of the Apes" (1968). The actual primary movie M2TS is 00055.M2TS approximately 27Gb:

1) If BD-25 is selected, the "Stream" tab lists VID00081 through VID00150

2) If BD-9 is selected, the "Stream" tab lists the "full shot" of VID00012 through VID00150

I'll attempt to do a 25Gb FULL DISC backup to see if it's actually limited to only the listed items. Result with v.39.04 as well as with v.39.03 is that it cannot be done! Error message, "Target too small to continue"

I thought I had that disc, but it doesn't so... I ordered it and it should get here in a few days. I like the original version best anyway ("Damn dirty ape!").

You're a man after my own heart - I loved the way Chuck underacted this role - Right, just as he did in "The Ten Commandments", "Ben Hur", "Soylent Green", "The Omega man", etc. ;>}

I'm extremely curious to hear what you find out about "Planet of the Apes".

BTW - I also tried v.39.03 and 39.04 with DTSExpress turned on and off. Made no difference...

I have updated the first post of this thread with a link to a new version of BD-RB (v0.39.04).

Just wanted to report I ran "Hobo with a Shotgun" with this new version and the audio synch issue is still present with this disc.

Yeah. I'm still not sure what to do about that one. The only alternative that comes to mind is to scan each section and look for gaps that have to be filled, and that could get really messy. I may have to look at the connection_condition, and sometimes rebuild as multipart -- even in movie-only.

Remember The Quiet American (from Amazon UK, not US) and how BD-RB dug up something which is not seen on the original? I figured I'd run it through v0.39.04 to see if it performed any differently. The process finished a moment ago and I haven't played it back yet, but I noticed that the output is quite massively oversized. I use a custom size of 24000MB and in 99% of cases output comes to within 200MB of a full BD25, but in this case it came to 24.9GB which is more than a gigabyte too large for BD25.

update: No difference in backup from the earlier version of BD-RB. Select Play Movie in Main menu, and you first get color bars followed by a master tape information screen listing frame rate, aspect ratio, length and audio information, then 20 seconds of black before Miramax logo appears. Original skips directly to Miramax logo even though the m2ts file contains color bars, info screen and the lead-in. It's apparently possible to program the playlist so playback begins not from the start of an m2ts file. BD-RB for some reason does not copy that programming to the backup.

Two pass is the only option that will be fairly accurate for sizing prediction. You did not report your settings, but this method has never been that far off for me!
Every movie will compress differently, so your setting of 24000MB is not leaving much of a safety margin, as you have unfortunately discovered. :(

Please don't report oversizing when you have custom size set. It isn't a bug when your action causes the problem. I've commented numerous times about sizing accuracy and that's why I set the defaults to what they are.

As for "The Quiet American" -- since it apparently isn't available on blu-ray in the US (or at least on Amazon)... there really isn't much I can do. I couldn't find either the John Wayne version or the Michael Caine version.

Of course I use two passes, and Highest Quality. Like I mentioned, using a custom size of 24000MB has worked very well for me; less than 5 backups out of hundreds have come out oversized on versions older than 0.39.04.

Ohhkay... I just thought it might be interesting to learn that this suddenly happened on 0.39.04 when it did not happen on an earlier version. I've done hundreds of backups with custom output size and have had very few oversized outputs, and none have been this severe. When it happens, it's usually less than 100MB over BD25 so I'd say your sizing algorithms have been extremely consistent in the past. An oversize this large felt like an anomaly worth reporting.

As for "The Quiet American" -- since it apparently isn't available on blu-ray in the US (or at least on Amazon)... there really isn't much I can do. I couldn't find either the John Wayne version or the Michael Caine version.
I'm aware of that. I mentioned this to let you know that whatever changes made to BD-RB code have had no (accidental) effect on this issue. If you wish, I can make relevant clpi and mpls files available for examination.

Hi

Tried to do the classic disney movie Pinocchio, but I'm getting this error: Pes packet len too large ( >100Mb). Bad stream or invalid codec speciffed.

Tried as this fora suggested to rip again, got same error, ripped it again in another drive, same error again.

Ripped it with anydvd 6.8.8.0.

Make sure you have enough space on your disc. By the size of it at "Least" 60GB or more. I'm not saying that is the problem but make sure first till Jdobbs or others can help.

I use a custom size of 24000MB and in 99% of cases output comes to within 200MB of a full BD25, but in this case it came to 24.9GB which is more than a gigabyte too large for BD25.

This happens. I find that almost all older Criterion releases typically produce undersized by a gig or less so I'll chance increasing the target.

In this particular instance, reduce target size by 1.7 GB to 22250MB using all the other same settings, should end up with a near perfect sizing. FWIW

Ok, got it. I modified the same routine I'd used for another audio oddity and did a test (it worked). It'll be in the next release.

Awesome work! Thanks a million for all your dedication :D

Not sure how alternate mode should work, but here is what I wanted. Robin Hood Bluray playlist 363 is an hour long making of that is MPEG-2 stream (see mediainfo below). The 3 files in this playlist total 1.7GB. So I thought why not select other movie only playlist, then alternate mode of DVD-5. So assumed it would be no reencode since the content will fit to target. But it recoded the video and the final size of the DVD VIDEO_TS folder was 3.53GB and the audio sync was off. What happened? I thought it should not reencode.

I even tried the config setting of FORCE_NOENDCODE=1 and that had no effect either, just same result.

When outputting to DVD-5/9, BD-RB does no sizing checks. It assumes it always has to be reencoded (since MPEG-2 is so rare in BD features). I'll take a look at it and see if it might be feasible to do "keep original" checks.

Quick question for ya. I've done a few Cinavia titles, and taken the DVD AC3 and just muxed into the MT2S file that BD-RB had created.

I'm now trying 30 Minutes or Less and a bit of an issue is that the main MT2S file has 2 video tracks. Whenever i mux with tSmuxer, the wrong stream shows up, even though i have not changed the order, just replaced the Cinavia infected AC3 with one from the DVD.

I know that BD-RB re-encdes and remuxes this file without incident, so could you please let me know what you think i should do to make this work? already googled for "mt2s secondary video" and "tsmuxer secondary video" to no avail.

Thanks in advance

Thanks in advance Are you getting the wrong video stream, or the wrong audio stream? The selected stream is identified by its PID (packet identifier). If the wrong one is being played, that means the wrong PID is being assigned to it during the remux. Normally the stream PIDs are assigned sequentially/incrementally in the same order as they are listed (in the TSMUXER metafile). For secondary video files you have to have the ", secondary" parameter included in that video files's line so its PID starts in the correct range... I'm not sure you can do that in the GUI. But you can always cut and paste from the GUI into Notepad and add the parameter, and then run the CLI:

c:\path\to\bdrebuilder\tools\tsmuxer.exe createdmetafile.meta d:\output\path

FFDSHOW VC-1 set incorrectly: [0]

what do i do to fix this

From the first post of this thread:1. Download and install FFDSHOW and the Haali Matroska Splitter. They are required for BD-RB to work and are free. After the install, run "Video Decoder Configuration" for FFDSHOW from the "START/Programs" menu, and make sure MPEG2 decoding is enabled. Do the same using "Audio Decoder Configuration" to ensure "Uncompressed" is set to "All Supported".
8. Recommended for Windows XP only: Download and install WMV11 from Microsoft, and set VC-1 decoding to "disabled" in FFDSHOW (allowing the WMV11 codec to be used). This seems to be the codec with the fewest problem on VC-1. For Vista or Windows 7 -- select "wmv9"

To me it looks strange it takes all audio, when I only choose Danish and English? I can assure you that if it processed all the languages -- they were all selected. You may not think so -- but they were. An important note to remember is that if you resume a job, the original audio selections from the time the job was first started are used (not any changes you may have made in the interim). This is necessary to prevent wild sizing errors due to mid-stream changes. Another possibility is if the stream isn't an original and/or the stream languages aren't properly marked or are set to undetermined ("und"). In that case they are assumed to be the default language. That means they could be kept when that language was selected.

For catalog titles its more common then you think, they generally just port over the DVD extras content and throw its MPEG-2 into an m2ts container.

That would be a nice feature if you can add the check, then it makes it possible to create a true DVD bonus disk from the extras on Bluray.
