@MB2

I'd try rebooting your system and trying again. The error message is saying "CreateAVS(), 00000" -- which essentially means "there is no error". Something is wrong...

Thanks again for your help. That can't be it -- the file ID number doesn't even match. It also says you haven't encoded anything yet -- but in the log is is trying to MUX. I'd say delete the INF file and start again. Have you edited the INI, INF, or LOG files?

@jdobbs

I haven't edited anything. I will delete the INF file and try again. I will post the results this evening. Thanks.

Programs do such things sometimes (author-wondering-wtf).

I'd guess that 'multiplexing' should not require 're-encoding' at all. Missing 'bitrate value' could be a result of miscalculation or wrong logic-path.

5 hours of video -> bitrate estimation may cause such weird reports, but I'd guess it is something else.

It failed again. Here is all the same info again, this time after rebooting and deleting the STAR_TREK_4_-_THE_VOYAGE_HOME.INF file.

Well this time all the parts make sense. It failed because either there were 0 frames to encode in 00098, or because it mistakenly thought there were zero frames to encode. I thought I put in checks for that -- but I'll go back and review the code to see what's going on. Also interesting is the fact that somehow the error from the encode wasn't reported and so it went on to try and multiplex.

Are you using the US version of that movie? I'll give it a go.

Yes, I am using the US version. Thanks.

The last two discs I have done have both failed for the same reason. Although having an initial size of around 25GB, and set to go to bd-9, they ended up at over 40Gb. When I checked the main movie stream (which is a huge file and is very poor quality), at some stage it changes to noise (tiny coloured dots all over the screen) for the remainder of the movie. I checked the original on the HDD and at the point where this occurs, if I slow down the playback, there is a tiny artifact. I will just re-rip them, but wondered what made it impossible for x264 to recover from this?

31st July 2010, 12:25
It happened to me a while ago and it is not the x264 that can't recover but avisynth, which at the point of the glitch stops serving frames properly to the end of the movie.

@jdobbs

It also does it on another PC aswell... :-(

Do you have version 31.08 still? Unexpired?? Be interesting to try it.

EDIT - I still have 31.08 but its expired.

Added a new hidden option called "KEEP_HD_LPCM". If
set to "0" while also keeping HD audio for BD25, only
DTS and DD HD audio will be kept intact. LPCM will be
converted to AC3. This is meant to help prevent huge
LPCM audio streams from stealing too much space and
negatively affecting video quality. The default value
is "1".

I am confused by this. Wouldn't I want to be able to completely drop the LPCM track and just keep the DTS-MA or TrueHD tracks.
Why even convert it to AC3? Is it just to keep for backward compatibility so that a older laptop or PC can play the audio?

What is the procedure or settings if I always want to keep the English TrueHD or DTS-MA HD Audio but drop all other stuff like LPCM or the additional AC3 core included extra with TrueHD?

jdobbs
1st August 2010, 01:32
I implemented that as a result of a request. Not all discs have DTS-MA or TrueHD as a choice, and they wouldn't necessarily have the same audio content as the LPCM. There are also discs that have only LPCM (like some concert discs). But most importantly the concept is to have a choice to "Keep HD, unless it's LPCM", because LPCM is so wasteful. That way you can set it and forget it. By the way, note that it only applies when you have also selected "Keep HD audio for BD-25".

Of course you can drop it if you want just by deselecting the track.

To keep only the main audio and drop others -- in the SETUP dialog just say to leep only "English" (for example), and also click "Limit to one track for each Language" -- that way it would only keep the first English track.

Ok, I think I understand. Dracula is a good example. Contains the LPCM for main track but the 2nd track is DD AC3. So I assume if I had the Keep HD Audio checked and the Keep LPCM set to 0, then it would default to the DD track since there is no other HD Audio other then the LPCM. Is that a correct assumption?

That's a safeguard because the backup tracks are often only DD 2.0. Also, even though it probably isn't true in the case of "Dracula", sometimes the second audio selection includes unwanted audio (like commentary).

Weird, using version 34.05 produce no secondary video stream if i use the "SECONDARY_USE_QUALITY=1", i get a 0 Kbps .264 file. If i use "SECONDARY_USE_QUALITY=0" everything goes fine. x264 shows a error but the window is closed so fast that I am unable to watch the error text.

Any idea what is happening:

Ok, that makes sense. What encoder does BD-Rebuilder use to do its AC-3 encoding?

UPDATE:
Ok, I see in cmd window it uses Aften encoder

These glitches are on software players only correct? I have experienced this too on TMT3 only, not PowerDVD 7.3 or my S360.
TMT3 will sometimes, and it seems more often than not, also have audio sync issues for me where PowerDVD will not, nor will my S360!

The PlayStation 3 is also affected.

I don't have a PS3, but it appears the latest update (3.0.1.185) for TMT3 corrects this pixelation issue for me. Arcsoft was apparently aware of this issue, or it at least mentioned it in the patch update fix log.
My latest full backup to BD9 with "Use open GOP for Encoding" does not display any more of these type of errors. :)

Thanks, deanK, I'll take a look at it. Strange, though, that the value would change from the original. Sometimes in multi-part playlists you can have a repeated audio packet in two adjoining M2TS files when the connection_condition is right. Maybe it's possible that one of the removed audio streams had this condition and resulted in a very small shortening.

Interesting if nothing else.

While attempting to do a Movie Only Rebuild of Clash of Titans, I noticed it has 7 .m2ts streams that BD_Rebuilder will combine into a (1:46.07.569) runtime. If I use Clown_BD to preprocess it into a blueray it shows a runtime of (1:46.07.562 ) when I use it in BD_Rebuilder. This is after eac3to corrects audio overlaps of anywhere from 5 to 12 miliseconds for each m2ts piece. Does BD_Rebuilder fix the audio overlaps or what accounts for the difference between the 2 runtimes? A difference extremely small but a difference none the less.

Ok jdobbs, if got a mystery for ya. First "problem" ever. The problem is simple. Disc recoded successfully into an ISO and has a dual feature. The same movie in theatrical and extended version. In both the panasonic BD60 & BD85 at the screen where you have to select wich version, the problem begins. After you select wich one you like to watch, the angles start to loop that show the copyright notice etc, over and over again. However in PowerDVD after i select the version, the movie starts as it should, in BOTH cases. Don't know if it matter but the disc does not contain java.

I've got no idea why the standalone's don't play it but powerdvd 10 does

Yes. It fixes it.

[13:47:23] - Failed video encode, abortedWell, something has changed... my guess is that something installed has taken over VC-1 decoding. I'd reinstall BD Rebuilder and all components.

Have you changed the minimum M2TS size to be modified? 29 frames seems small to even be included in the job. I guess it could be multi-part, but I've never seen a 29 frame segment in a multi-part feature.

jdobbs, sorry for harping on about this topic but I'd like to go over the "no encoding required" and space calculation method a bit more. Do you happen to have in your arsenal the US version of Astro Boy? It's the perfect title for finetuning this.

Movie-only playlist (00001.MPLS) contains a single file (00001.M2TS) which has a size of 25 403 062 272 bytes. In addition to video, it contains an English DTS-HD MA track and a Spanish Dolby Digital 640kbps track, as well as English and Spanish subs.

Using BD-RB 0.34.05, I set custom output to 24100MB (which actually wouldn't fit on a BD25 which is 25 025 314 816 bytes, i.e. 23866MB - if I calculated correctly) and told BD-RB to do a movie-only backup while keeping HD audio, but dropping Spanish audio and subs. Here's what the .INF says:

SOURCE_SIZE=25403062272
SOURCE_VIDEO_SIZE=25403062272
TARGET_SIZE=25270681600
REDUCTION=.994788790792915

Since REDUCTION is less than 1, BD-RB would actually re-encode the video, correct? So, for s**** and giggles I aborted processing and entered a custom output size of 25550MB. INF reported a value higher than 1, and no re-encoding was done. Total output (directories etc. included) came to 24 859 136 164 bytes, i.e. 23707.52MB which fits on a BD25.

Now, I'm aware that BD-RB has to estimate certain things and there are overheads etc. to factor in, and the whole shebang is much more complicated than I can fathom. I just wanted to show by this example that there's still some room for improvement, that's all.

I see inspect says OK for all, but I was curious why - FFDSHOW AVC set to "ffmpeg-mt": Ok ? :confused:

I have not had any problems decoding VC1, AVC or mpeg2. ( I realise this is VC1)

I am having the exact same problem with using full backup of Star Trek (The Original Series). Been stuck on this ever since my last version of BDR expired.

@jdobbs

Ive rebooted twice. And its not been able to create avs twice...

Hmm....

OK, now this is pretty weird. Source movie length 92 minutes. Movie-only backup length 138 min. Backup plays fine, but has 46 minutes of black screen after the ending credits. KEEP_LPCM was set to 0; the source has one DTS-HD MA track (24bit) and three PCM tracks, all of which are stereo but one of them is 24bit at a bitrate of 2304kbps. Could that have some bearing on this?

I changed mine to see of that helped anything and i got nothing...I have no idea what happened or why my encodes keep failing. i even reimaged my computer back to a time where everything worked and nothing changed

@Jdobbs
I didnt change any frames or anything, not an advanced user at all on this program just been keeping up with the latest releases and doing everything at defaults.
I downloaded an new copy and ran as admin and everything again said ok, but the encode still failed.

Anybody else out there having this issue?

Anybody else out there having this issue? Can you post your BD-REBUILDER.INI?

You need to also uninstall and reinstall all the helper apps (AVISYNTH, FFDSHOW, and HAALI) using the links in the first post of this thread. Something may have overwritten previous settings and one of those programs is the issue.

Can you also post LASTCMD.TXT from the BD Rebuilder folder?

As i was returning to the forum to post an update i see your post. didnt mean to waste your time man. But i just did all that. i uninstalled haali, ffdshow, avi synth and rebooted. reinstalled and ran BD as admin and... magic, things started working. I was just popping into the thread to post this when i saw your response.

Hey guys, just thought I'd post about the "Overall Progress" bar being off for me. It's not really a big deal, I can estimate how long it will take anyway, but wasn't sure if this was something that was specific to my computer or not. I know Rebuilder is still in Beta technically so it's all good.
For example, I shrunk the Sapphire Series of "Gladiator" tonight, with main movie, HD english track, and english subtitles it came to about 35 gb. Its a seamless branching title with maybe 15 m2ts files or so. At the end of re-encoding then remuxing the last m2ts file(which was approx. 4.2 gb) the overall completion was at 53% or around there, then it just jumped to 100%. Like I said, not a big deal, just thought I would report it. Thanks for the great program and when(or if) you decide to charge for it I will be happy to pay. Regards.

Edit: I forgot to say I shrunk to BD25. If you need any logs let me know.

But i just did all that. i uninstalled haali, ffdshow, avi synth and rebooted. reinstalled and ran BD as admin and... magic, things started working. I was just popping into the thread to post this when i saw your response. Good to know, thanks.

I've updated the first post of this thread with a link to a new release of BD-RB (v0.34.06). Changes for this version:- Removed "PROCESS_SECONDARY" as a hidden option. This
option was the source of several seemingly unrelated
issues.
- Added code to always check TSMUXER's M2TS length value
in the CLPI file and correct when necessary. It seems
the value can be wrong and may cause player confusion.
- Modified the MPLS update routine so it checks original
OUT times against those created by TSMUXER and correct
where they differ. This could correct a slight stutter
at M2TS change point on some software players playing
a multi-part feature on a full backup.
- Changed the default for open GOPs to "off". It seems
some software players and the PS3 may have rewind and
fast-forward issues (pixelation). Those who want to
use it anyway can still choose it from the SETUP menu.
- Updated the included version of X264.EXE to the
latest release (r1688).
- Other minor corrections and cosmetic fixes.

@videoadvocate

i tried it again with 34.06... still cant create avs...

its a branching disc unfortunately (old effects or remastered versions of the episodes)... may have to make a custom menu version with multiavc, but will be just remastered eps and run it through BDRB again, see what happens.

How does Process Secondary work now? I used to enable it for discs that have DD or regular non-express DTS audio tracks and disable it for discs that had non-remux-able audio tracks. Can I still do this in some way with the new version?

That's just the point -- it didn't work correctly when you set it to "0" -- so now secondary audio/video will always be kept for a full backup (except, of course, DTS Express -- which I'm working on now).

Yeah, I used to remove 2nd video/audio track information from the corresponding mpls file with bdedit (bd rebuilder somehow left this information in place) because otherwise some players, including software solutions like PowerDVD, would freeze on playback. Anyway, I was just curious on how it is working now. thanks for the info.

However, does this mean that if a movie contains secondary video and a dts express track, bd rebuilder will keep just the video? That's some waste of bandwidth because in 90% of all cases it's a video commentary which is somehow.... useless without the audio. So it'd be better to strip it.

The DTS Express will be a welcome addition. :)
Any update regarding IGS menu's?
Also, there was a recent update to TMT3 that has corrected the pixelation issue with playback FF or chapter advance, suspected from Open GOP. I have never experienced this with my standalone or PowerDVD 7.3, only TMT3. Now I do not experience it with TMT3 anymore either. :cool:

Lots of thanks, tested with Up and Toy Story 2 and now backups play perfectly on both standalone player and TMT3.

:thanks:

The problem is figuring out a way to do it without add a whole lot of processing time (because I have to pull it out and reinsert it myself -- duplicating TSMUXER's action). Right now it looks like it will add at least an hour.. we'll see.

What is the problem with IGS?
