That's really unusual. I'd suggest you do a two-pass encode. But, frankly, I don't think I've ever seen ABR oversize -- CRF yes, but not ABR. With the small size adjustment needed, you might also want to try removing one or two audio tracks -- and then set a custome output size that is larger than the original. That way it will keep it intact. It will only take 15 minutes or so to do it that way.

Not much to strip. Was hoping just to shrink a little. See attached picture.
I will try the 2 pass though and see if that works.
Thanks!

I have a strange one. Trying to back up Led Zeppelin - Celebration Day Blu-ray disk. It is just over the single layer disk by such a small amount so I thought I would just shrink it a bit.
Well I have run it twice through BD Rebuilder and the program actually makes the copy bigger by a gig or more.
Here is my config and settings:

Hi!
I'm having a problem that has never happened before.
I'm using Windows 8, and I'm backing up my Batman Dark Knight movie, and I've already done that in Windows 7 a lot of times.
But when the video starts encoding, an error happens, H.264 (MPEG-4 AVC) (according to the O.S.) crashes and weird X264 status appear on my log.
Here's the log:

Hi!
It seems that you overlooked this INCORRECT setting:
Ok.. But this comes with BD Rebuilder, I'm not allowed to mess with it. And when I said all my settings were OK, I saw them on 'Inspect' program that comes with the program.

Gave that a try but my disk is 25,301,743,145 bytes. Imgburn won't overburn blu-ray either. It just won't fit on single layer without processing. And I really don't want to waste a DL for the sake of just 1 gig.
Anyway, trying 2 pass. Still going. Takes a long time. I will see what happens in the morning.

I've ripped again IceAge3.
For playlist 13, I've 3 angles for the first Stream:
349 for English
351 for french
352 for XXXX
in BDRB, other movies playlist, whatever the angle you choose, the streams are always 349 - 350 instead of 351 - 350 for french
is there something i miss somewhere?
[edit1] I've trashed my BDRB folder and redownload it. same behavior
[edit2] I've made a small mp4 with handbrake with the same iso, selecting playlist then angle2. texts are in french as expected

[edit2] I've made a small mp4 with handbrake with the same iso, selecting playlist then angle2. texts are in french as expectedUnfortunately the ICE AGE 3 disc I have only has one angle, so it will be difficult to repeat. I'll do some checking, but BD-RB gets its information directly from the playlists -- so if it is telling you 349 - 350, then in all likelihood the angle is 349-350. You never know, it could be something else I've added has somehow created a new bug.

Hi jdobbs,
It looks like when you need to shrink a disk by a bunch of gigabytes, your program works very well. But when you need to shave only a gig off, it has a hard time with the smaller size. I did a 2 pass encode and the project is still 1 gig larger than the original. There is only 2 audio tracks that can be either removed or re-encoded (LPCM & DTS-HD). I would like to keep both if I could.
I have set an even smaller custom size (18 gig) to see if exaggerating the size will bring it down some.
If you have any other suggestions, it would be very much appreciated. If I re-encode the HD audio track to AC3, will it still be 6 channel surround?

If you have any other suggestions, it would be very much appreciated. If I re-encode the HD audio track to AC3, will it still be 6 channel surround? No, it's something else. I'm confident that X264 will meet the specified size if given the correct bitrate. Whether it is large or small has pretty much no impact. If I had to guess, I'd say the problem has something to do with the LPCM track. Look in the working folder and let me know how large the two audio tracks are alone. Most sizing issues are related to audio because you have to make a "guess" at how large they will be when remuxed.
I would suggest that if you are going to reencode one track, it should be the LPCM -- bet yet remove it. It looks like it is just stereo anyway, so why would you want to keep it when you have a multi-channel track as an alternative -- and frankly LPCM is a simple waste of space. Double blind tests show that LPCM is indistinguishable from AC3 if the AC3 bitrate is sufficient. So what's the point of keeping it?
As to your last question -- yes, if the source is 5.1, the AC3 encode will be 5.1 as well. The best strategy is to allow the audio to be reencoded. AC3 is more efficient than DTS. If, however, your source is 7.1 and you have 7.1 playback capability (few do) -- you may want to just keep the DTS (standard AC3 only supports up to 5.1). As for me, I always reencode to AC3. It saves A LOT OF SPACE for use by your video that gets wasted with DTS or LPCM, and there is no distinguishable difference (to the human ear) at playback. Those who say there is are bending to psychological "wishes" that aren't substantiated by science or engineering.
You might find that simply removing the LPCM will give you enough space that the original video and DTS will fit without any reencoding.

Hmmz, everything's set properly. Could be a corrupt rip. Open that problematic video 00054 and see where the problem is. Perhaps it "hangs" somewhere. Then as setarip said, go back to the original and play the disc. See if it hangs on that one too. That would indicate a corrupt rip

It's checking wrong, ignore it.
Look at your filters -- that's the most likely place for issues in encoding.

I tried UnDot().Deen() because Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) looked like the worst dirt/grain and overall poor quality transfer I'd ever seen on blu-ray. Is there a better/compatible filter(s) you'd recommend instead?

I'd recommend trying it without any filters and the automatic cropping off -- just to make sure that it isn't a syntax error with one of them that is causing the encode failure.

Will do, later tonight. Would not be surprised if it did work. The several before and after worked fine, did not need filters on them. I like the auto crop feature on the films that are 1.85:1 yet still have very small black bars. Also for removing black bars on the sides of 4:3 stuff. I do however get many bad encodes using this feature, does not always work as intended...

Usually if I use it I will stop the job immediately after it starts encoding and playback the AVS to make sure it is working correctly before I let the encode complete. If I restart it, it will pick up and reencode without having to extract etc.

From the very FIRST post
1. Download and install FFDSHOW (http://www.jdobbs.net/freeware/ffdshow_rev3882_20110613_clsid.exe) and the Haali Matroska Splitter (http://www.jdobbs.net/freeware/MatroskaSplitter.exe). They are required for BD-RB to work and are free. After the install, run "Video Decoder Configuration" for FFDSHOW from the "START/Programs" menu, and make sure MPEG2 decoding is enabled. Do the same using "Audio Decoder Configuration" to ensure "Uncompressed" is set to "All Supported".
Note to Windows 7 & Windows 8 Users: The first time (and only the first time) you run BD Rebuilder, you may have to "Run As Administrator". This is necessary so BD-RB can make CODEC preference changes in the Windows Registry.

Does the AVS playback ok if you open it with Media Player Classic?

It should support MPEG-2 now as long as it is in a supported container. What container format are you using?
MPG or MPEG container. Import, Video File doesn't show support for this. MKV, MP4, AVI, TS and no "Or All Files".. I have PowerDVD 12 so, that alone, provides MPG support. :) Of course, FFDShow is installed; from first page link.
Hmm...VideoReDo TVSuite 4.20.7.XXX only allows MPG/MPEG container to retain CC1 without rerendering. Hmm...I may check their Forum for info, see if anyone else has noticed it. I see that after editing and exporting to MPG with VideoReDo TVSuite THEN use MKVmerge(GUI) BD-RB will process it. Another step in the process, yet "quicker" than HandBrake. Which also means using CCExtractor...Okay...
So, not a bug in BD-RB, just not a supported container. Nor are CC or .SRT supported (with MKV). Ok, got it.

You can have multiple playlists, multiple angles, or a combination of both. Notice in your post that there are more than one playlist with 25 chapters and the same length? Those could each be a different language -- and there could be multiple angles in each language.

Playlists 801 to 854 use same files these files are different from 800 and 850. 801/851 is english only audio, 802/852 only french, 803/853 only spanish, 804/854 only german but all playlists have 5 angles.
In all cases, angle 3 is not visible :-/
