Interesting... if I keep all the audio tracks the resulting M2TS plays fine on MPC-HC and is detected properly on BDInfo.
http://home.squallmx.operaunite.com/FS/content/50138A.m2ts (use download manager)
But if I only keep some tracks (English, Portuguese and Spanish) the resulting file is detected as corrupted on BDInfo and dont play on MPC-HC:

Hopefully someone else out there will try it on a PS3 so we can judge better whether it is the BD-RE that is the issue or something in the muxing.
Ran a Full Backup of Stand By Me last night, using Highest (Very Slow) quality setting; all other settings were the same. Burned it on a BD-R and played it on a PS3 Slim. Playback was interrupted by a "This Disc is invalid" error message exactly like it was on the BD-RE disc after approx. 1 minute of flawless playback.

Did a Full Backup of Animal House (EU, Universal); Very Fast, 1-pass CRF to BD25. Same thing happened as with Risky Business: PiP video is riddled with artefacts. Like Risky Business, Animal House original is VC-1 for both main feature and Secondary video. Something else I just noticed while playing Animal House: with U-Control activated but no PiP on screen, I could not rewind the movie. Pressing the rewind button on the remote simply paused the image for a second before movie resumed normally. Hammering the rewind button several times confused the player which suddenly skipped all the way to the end of the disc.

1) With a burned disc copy or a hard drive copy?
2) What player?

1) With a burned disc copy or a hard drive copy?
Both. Tested first on PowerDVD11 over LAN, then burned on a BD-RE.
2) What player?
Philips 9500, Philips 3000 and LG BX580. Rewinding actually works on the LG but main video shows same kind of picture break-up artefacts as the secondary video. If there was main video glitching on the other two stand-alones, I didn't notice it.
edit: Played the BD-RE on a Sony S550 a moment ago. Glitches in both main and secondary video, and PiP audio is not playing even when HDMI audio output is set for Mix instead of Direct.

It is slightly concerning about the glitches as I noted this on The Mummy but was concentrating on the PiP functionality.

I used the new DTS Express switch to backup Star Trek The Original Series season 1 disc 1. The disc uses seamless branching and has a PIP for commentary. The PIP commentary with DTS-E audio plays fine on my Sony BDP-S370 player.
There are two minor issues though
1. The discs use two angles to show the updated special effects and the original footage. If I have the PIP commentary ON and change the angle, it causes my player to either freeze up or skip to another scene. This doesn't happen on the original in the exact same spot.
2. I burned a BD-R using ImgBurn and it reported some messages about the M2TS files I haven't seen before:
These are really minor though, I can finally backup my Star Trek Blu-rays with the PIP audio commentary intact, thanks JDOBBS.

I've just tried the following to bd-re (I always use the Highest Quality setting for encoding):
Terminator 2 - Ultimate Edition -> Problematic blocking on main movie. Only Panasonic handles PiP with audio. Samsung and Sony just show image with no audio.
Harry Potter 7-1 -> PiP only worked correctly on Panasonic. On Samsung there was strange popping on audio before PiP occurred. When the PiP happened, the audio was garbled and PiP was in wrong position (top left rather than bottom right). On Sony it was the usual case of PiP with no audio.

So far the glitching has been limited to discs that use VC-1 for both main and secondary video... right?

Did a quick Full Backup of Battle: Los Angeles (CEE) using 1-pass CRF and "Faster" preset. Playing the BD-RE on a Philips 9500 right now; PiP video and audio are fine. The player has some problems reading a BD-RE (my 9500 won't play most BD-R discs...) which is causing some pauses in the movie. I'll verify on another player later today the pauses are not in the encode.

Just checking it does seem to be the case that they are VC1 / VC1. I was thrown by The Thing, which is also VC1 / VC1. However checking it was just over bd-25 and the main movie wasn't re-encoded. Therefore the only one which is okay is Harry Potter which was AVC / AVC.
I've just done Animal House (a Universal title) to bd-9. Again suffering from glitches / blocks but I wouldn't say any worse than a bd-25 disc.
Just for clarification, are you also seeing the glitches in the main video? On some discs I'm even seeing glitches in the menus - on my bd-9 version of Animal House I see lots of blocks on the Universal planet sequence at the start, then on the language selection page and then the 'blu-ray disc' menu leading up to the main selection.

Yes, on VC1 / VC1 discs. Glitching that could be described as severe blocking, both on main and secondary video. Haven't seen it on any AVC/AVC discs, so far.

I haven't been paying attention to menu background video, but I will from now on. All my tests have been for BD25.

The CPI definitely gets changed by the DTS-Express code. When the DTS Express is added to the M2TS the SPN values change and the table has to be updated. I'll look and see if there is something goofy happening there. The fact that there is PiP and Angles might make a difference.

I can confirm that I have seen the same messages from IMGBurn when burning bd-25 of discs to test the PiP functionality. I assumed that it was a disc issue rather than BD-RB, as I ran IMGburn independently.

I'm not seeing this. Does your output have angles also? What disc is it? Any special settings in IMGBURN?

Yes, is Robin Hood (the one with Russell Crown), contains theatrical and director's cut using multiangles and has a PiP containing interviews with Ridley Scott, more specifically is the G52 edition (for Latin America and Eastern Europe) with 10 audio tracks and 25 subtitles. The US release is similar in specs but with only 4 audio tracks and 6 subtitles.
I'm using ImgBurn 2.5.6.0 with "Reset 'Copy Permission Indicator' Flag" checked, I will burn the disc without to see if anything changes.

I have "Reset Copy Permission Indicator" set on mine too. I think that is the default -- or at least I don't remember ever setting it.

Simply untick that "Reset 'Copy Permission Indicator' Flag" box under Options and you won't see those messages anymore. I haven't seen any adverse effects from unticking the box.

The CPI definitely gets changed by the DTS-Express code. When the DTS Express is added to the M2TS the SPN values change and the table has to be updated. I'll look and see if there is something goofy happening there. The fact that there is PiP and Angles might make a difference.
I just ran a new encode with my Star Trek BD's. This time I used Season 1 Disc 3 which has four episodes. Two have a PIP commentary track with DTS-E. The disc uses seamless branching and has two angles. I'm getting the M2TS message in ImgBurn and switching the angle while the PIP is on causes issues. The PIP and DTS-E audio play fine as long as the angle is not changed during playback. This time I have all the log files:

Frequent and continuous pixilation and image breakup on title "Inception" on latest build of BD Rebuilder. 39.02 Source is VC-1. Never had this happen before on any title, any source or build.
Defects are obvious when played on Cyberlink PowerDVD software player, Sony BDPs300 and Sharp BD-HP70u from the burned BD-25 .
Playing the mounted iso has defects in the exact same places as playing from burned disc on the cyberlink software .
Playing the original BD shows none of the defects and playing a mounted image of the ANYdvd rip is also clean.
Also, another title "Of Gods and men" which was a MPEG-4 (AVC) source was run with BD reb 39.02 without the problems previously described.
I'm presently running the same job "Inception) VC-1 source on 39.01 and comparing the VID_xxxxx.AVS.264's to the 39.02 files by playing them in the cyberlink player, I'm finding no pixilation or breakup in the avs.264's created in the older version. Compression ratio is aprox 40g/24g. I'm expecting the resulting burned BD-25 will be fine as well

Just realized I've used x264's internal LAVF for every VC-1 encoded title. Perhaps this is a bug introduced in the new build of x264? I'm going to run another backup of Animal House using FFDshow instead of LAVF.

I'm looking at the .inf and .ini and I'm seeing "USE_LAVF=0" in either case.
Is there another way to tell if that has happened?

Well, this is very interesting... because the second backup of Animal House finished a moment ago, and viewing the output on PDVD11 I can't see the severe blocking artefact in either main or secondary video. I simply unticked the "Use LAVF" box under BD-RB settings and made sure FFDShow was configured correctly for VC-1. I'll burn the data on a BD-RE next for testing on stand-alones.

I haven't changed any of my settings (but checking LAVF seems to be the default) and only get 'blocking' on PiP titles which are VC1/VC1 - I have done none PiP titles with the latest version and they are okay.
Just done Green Lantern (which is AVC / AVC PiP) to bd-9 - works fine on pc using TMT but not on any standalone players (panasonic won't play bd-9). Also got the 'Reset CPI flag' when burning the disc.

Thank you both for your input.
I've noticed that you update to a newer version, the settings are retained. I don't think I ever had the LAVF setting checked, as I think early on when I first experienced the inability to recode to AC3, I tried to find all the advice I could about the settings in general. Seems as I recall I unchecked it from the start. But then again, I never had a video problem. No burning problems either. Only audio and I still can't get it to work which is too bad because I have an extras feature I would really like to burn to a 4.7 DVD.
Just tested the "Inception" with 39.01 and everything is fine. Can swear that I didn't have LAVF checked in 39.02

@Everyone
Remember, this DTS-Express code is very new and (as I said in my post about enabling it) is known to have issues. That's why the enable switch isn't documented and isn't used unless someone has decided to test it. The point never was that it is ready to go -- only that I need help in finding what's wrong. I hope everyone keeps that in mind. If you are burning to anything other than a BD-RE with that switch enabled or think this feature is anywhere near "ready for primetime" you'll likely be disappointed.

We're very grateful to be able to test this and get any bugs ironed out. If I did switch on LAVF, it must have been months ago and I have not had any issue with it, but I will try the next PiP test with it off.

If LAVF is having issues it is likely doing so independently of PiP. But... PiP could theoretically also cause playback issues since it is modifying the muxing.

I think the concern is the blocking on the main video with VC1, rather than PiP functionality, which everyone knows is a work in progress. I haven't seen problems with non-PiP discs, but there was a suggestion that there might be.

Played the Animal House backup (no LAVF, no DEINTERLACE, 1-pass CRF) on a Philps 3000. I didn't see any blocking in main or secondary video - but rewind and fast forward are still inoperative. Rewinding only pauses the image, and fast forwarding leads to disc skipping over the movie all the way to the end of the title. I'll check to see if only this player is affected by the REW/FF issue.
edit: No problems with REW/FF on Oppo BDP-83. (Oppo is falling apart; it accepts commands from remote only once every 3 seconds... I'm sure this has nothing to do with BD-RB :) )
edit: REW/FF also OK on a Sony S550. I guess Philips 3000 is simply very picky.

@jdobbs,
In my efforts to try to discover something that could help with the DTS Express problem, I notice that TsRemux ( not tsMuxeR ) appears to allow remuxing of the DTS Express audio. Could there be any beneficial information gained by analyzing it's finished remuxed file and comparing it to your own?

If I remember correctly it acts as if it does remux it, but if you look at the output stream it isn't actually there. I looked at that some time back thinking that I could use TSRemux to recombine it.

I have to agree that VC-1 is more prone to blocking/graphic glitches then AVC or that other one. Just did Hulk (2003), won't say the glitching is severe but it does suffer from it quite a bit

Just to clarify, the movie in which had the blocking and breakup was VC-1 but didn't contain DTS Express. Audio was DTS hd xll.
switch was not enabled and though the defects occurred with 30.02, the same settings in 30.01 yielded a flawless compression.

If so, the question is: Why is it I'm not seeing any issue?

Risky Business (no LAVF, "Use DEINTERLACER" enabled, 1-pass CRF; VC1/VC1; Dolby Digital Plus for secondary audio) plays without glitches/blocking on PDVD11 over LAN. Earlier backup with LAVF enabled resulted in glitches/blocking in at least secondary video.
edit: viewed a few minutes of the earlier backup; main video looks fine but PiP video is riddled with glitches.

I think the LAVF is a red-herring. I have just redone Terminator 2 - Ultimate Edition with LAVF switched off and there is still blocking on both the main and pip - perhaps not as much as previously, but still there. Once again the CPI Flag is reported by IMGBurn.

I'm also not getting a clear picture as to whether (or not) the playback issues are related to using the DTS-Express code???
Is anyone else (besides sonate, colinhunt, and drmih) having playback issues?
Are the playback issues (if they are there) happening only with the DTS Express switch?

I'm going to run another backup of Risky Business without the DTSX line in BDRB ini. The output might tell us something.

I have checked the original image on the HDD and it's fine. The blocking appears when using TMT, and I have also burnt to a bd-re and it can be seen on three different standalone players. I have actually got screen grabs to show if they are any use. On Terminator 2 the blocks appear right from the beginning credits.
I have also done non PiP discs without switching the DTSX option off, and I haven't seen any issues with those discs, but I will check in greater detail

It sounds like something is interfering with the VC-1 decoder. Try uninstalling and reinstalling BD-RB, AVISYNTH, HAALI, and FFDSHOW.

No my version number says v0.39.02(beta) that's what I was referring to as per http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1534495#post1534495. The breakup in "inception" is present on the newest version of Bd Reb and not on the previous. I have no idea why you don't see it. I'm merely presenting my experiences as a courtesy to you. Take it or leave it. I really don't want to get into the "who is at fault" thing again. I never ever meant you any disrespect, I only have praise. But now I'm feeling like I'm bothering you again.

No bother at all. I'm just trying nail down the cause. Can you please do a complete uninstall/reinstall of BD-RB and it's helper apps just so I can eliminate other software interference as a possible cause?
One other thing you can try (after the one above)... is replacing X264.EXE with the one from the previous version (v0.39.01). That at least would confirm/eliminate the new X264 version as a cause.

Hi,
Anyone any ideas why whilst trying to backup Megamind (using 0.39.02) BDRB only sees the main movie when I select DVD9 as the target size?? Otherwise, I get the "target is too small..." error.
The image appears fine (41.5Gb) and can play no probs.
Oh, should say this only happens with "Full Backup", movie only seems alright.
Cheers

My typical method for backing up my blurays is to load up the movie in DVDFab; if it's larger than 25GB, then I rip movie only, and then compress with BD Rebuilder and have never had any problems.
Recently though, I bought the Star Wars bluray set, and I wanted to make a full backup of the 3 extras discs. The 2nd of the discs was smaller than 25GB, so I ripped and burned that without a problem.
However, when I ripped the full disc of the other 2 discs, and did a full-disc backup with BD Rebuilder (39.02), it would not play on my bluray player (Panasonic DMP-BD65).
Is there something I should be trying? Thank you.
