I've been trying to do a movie-only HD-DVD to BD9 of "12 Monkeys" and can't get the audio right: I followed the guide by Furiousflea (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=145024), and BD-Rebuilder seems to run just fine, but the resulting BD9's m2ts file has no audio, though it is larger than the m2ts (which oddly *does* have audio) that is left in the "workfiles" directory created by BD-RB. I considered replacing the m2ts file in the BD9 output structure, but I'm guessing there might be conflicts with metadata contained elsewhere in the BD structure. Any thoughts on why the final shrunken workfile m2ts file plays back just fine, but no audio on the larger m2ts that is part of the proper output?
Also, thanks to jdobbs for letting us test this very useful program and everyone else who is contributing in their respective ways.

I encoded wanted, about 40gig to bd25. Full movie rip. Kept dts audio, everything works fine except the movie wont play. all the extras work just as expected, but selecting play or a chapter to start at, it does nothing. Before i try again has anyone had problems with wanted? I have done about 10 other bd25 conversions and they all worked fine. Using 20.03 full movie with extras, there where no errors during the re-encode. Great program btw. Appreciate all the hard work you are putting in this.

If you open a command prompt in the folder you extracted eac3to (hold shift while right clicking in the folder -> open command prompt here). Type...
eac3to -test
It will tell you what extra bits eac3to has\hasn't got access to. It could be that you are trying to decode an EAC3 to AC3 and the required decoder\encoder isn't there. Check in the EAC3TO thread in the audio forum (1st post) to be sure.
It turns out that you don't actually need to do the audio conversion and can leave it as is - even if EAC3 Reason I put that step in before was because BDRB wasn't picking up EAC3 streams, and technically EAC3 is only supposed to be used on bluray on streams with more than 5.1 channels. But I've seen a few BDs recently with 1\2 channel audio encoded in EAC3 so...It doesn't really matter.
I think that might be your problem, with the audio not playing.

Hi!
You might want to check out the following guide [The HD-DVD to BluRay portion] as an alternative:

Ive already posted that Wanted doesn't work a few weeks ago, it seems that there are a few Universal titles that exhibit the exact same behaviour, upto now i aint seen or heard JD reply to the problem....

Dolby Digital + streams in HD DVD are not Blu-ray compliant, on the titles i have done, i used eac3to to extract 6 wav files, then re-encode to 1500kbps DTS with DTS surcode, (this required me to have Nero 7.xx installed) remux back to the video file (note vc-1 files also need to be fixed) then run through BDRB to DVD-9

Interesting, and thank you for the information/advice--but I used eac3to (with HD-DVD/Blu-ray Stream Extractor (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=141829)) to extract the EAC3 stream as AC3: I believe this down-converts it to standard, BD-compliant AC3/DD audio (can someone confirm?). In fact, the audio plays back just fine (via Media Player Classic) on the resulting m2ts workfile after BD-RB has successfully completed, but not at all on the output m2ts file in the BD structure that BD-RB creates as its final step.

I use the exact steps that guy listed. Extract to wavs and encode with DTS Surcode...(surecode is not free). Nero BD\HD DVD plugin is also NOT free. Having Nero (must be version 7) installed is not enough. You have to pay for a serial to use the BD\HD DVD plugin. Also before you think of saving a few quid, there is NO valide keygen that will work to enable BD\HD DVD playback (even though it will say the serial is active, it won't active that Directshow decoding).
I only mention this piracy aspect, to avoid bug reports here. I do not advocate it and have actually purchased the plugin seperately. Think its about £15.
I'm not suggesting you are pirating, just a heads up if you find a brick wall etc.
To verify your extracted AC3 stream is valid, does it load ok when you add it to TSmuxer GUI? Is it listed as AC3.
( AC3+ IS in the Bluray standard. But the standard dictates that it can only be used on surround audio with more than 5.1 channels. However I can tell you 100% that it is actually used on a few of my Blurays as a mono directors commentry track)
So it's very unlikely that is your problem, though I would recommend against using it, as it isn't technically correct and fussy players might stick their tounge out at you.
As I said, just make sure that TSmuxer is showing an AC3 stream, make sure you chose a language or whatever also in the GUI.
Finally, just because your AC3 stream is playable doesn't mean it is valid for bluray...
I think HD DVDs have an AC3 core in the AC3+ track so you shouldn't need anything apart from eac3to....come to think of it? lol

Yeah, replacing an M2TS causes issues. The CLPI file has vectors into M2TS packets and both the CLPI and MPLS have information related to the makeup of the M2TS.

I know Dolby Digital + is in the Blu-ray stabdard, but i also said that HD DVD dolby digital + isn't Blu-ray compliant ( i didn't feel the need to get technical), as for the original author of this problem, are you sure eac3to is extracting the core dolby digital 5.1? it doesn't sound like it is, also are you fixing your vc-1 stream before muxing (1080i 29.97fps fixed to 23.97 1080p)?

You don't need to do this anymore since versions from a couple of months ago ;)
If what your talking about is after you extract the video elementary .vc1 stream then load it in Tsmuxer it shoes as 1080i instead of 1080p?
It was a bug in eac3to, it's in the changelog if you wanna make sure and will save you a bit of time in furure.
Also you can save time by not doing eac3to -> 6 mono wavs -> surecode -> dts audio. The GUI for eac3to doesn't have an option for DTS output but you if you just do it with the command line you can do it in one go...Very easy...
eac3to your_m2ts.m2ts
This will list the streams and more importantly the numbers 1:, 2:, 3: etc. Find the number that corresponds to the audio you want....Then...
eac3to your_m2ts.m2ts 1:\2:\3:...etc then output, in your case just put a .dts at the end....
For example...
eac3to c:\movie\movie.m2ts 4: c:\movie\movie.dts
This would extract the movie audio into wav and then compress with surecode in 1 go.
You can put in other numbers as well in the same command line if you want to demux\encode other tracks at the same time :)

My thanks and apologies to all: it seems that similarities with an unrelated earlier error on my part--combined with a potentially buggy Media Player Classic--led me to believe the resulting m2ts file was defective as it wouldn't play back audio in MPC: it plays just fine once burned to BD9.
Thanks for all the advice, though: it still helped me to track down the error and to learn about the options and powers that the various programs involved allow me! :)
I'm having lots of fun using BD-Rebuilder. :thanks:

I have to say that the programme has been hugely successful so far but there are two or three reoccuring issues which seem to becoming more and more prominent. I wonder if there are workable solutions of whether jdobbs has an idea of how to address them.
I see them as:
1) Failed to reencode audio, aborted - this is obviously an external issue with the conversion of certain types
2) DoEncoding() - can't copy the original streams to recreate an image
3) Missing audio selection on standalones (seemingly put down to pip)
4) the vc1 m2ts extra files which x264 won't handle - assuming there isn't an easy fix would it be possible to select which streams to re-encode and then recalculate the size (using the min-encode size works but is too broadbrush if the problem extra is the largest one).

Sorry about the lack of updates recently. I've been really busy with other things the past couple of weeks.
I just updated the first post of this thread with a link to an updated version of BD-RB. Changes for this version:
- Corrected an error in which timing adjustments on
certain files may not have the PTS updated
correctly on LPCM streams.
- Added an option to SETUP to keep HD audio streams
intact (for BD25 encoding only).
- Extended the timeout of the beta. Since I haven't
had a lot of spare time lately, I want to make
sure the program doesn't timeout for anyone between
version releases. The timeout is NOT meant to limit
use but instead to keep me from having to readdress
the same bugs over-and-over.
- Made several changes to accommodate naming
convention in newer versions of TSMUXER.
- Updated X264 to version r1130. Includes several
speed improvements.
- Fixed an error related to pass reporting on certain
types of encodes.
- Reduced the default target size for BD-25. The new
setting of 24450 was too large for BD-RB (which has
a limit of 23098).
- Added setting of the CUSTOM_TARGET_SIZE as an option
in the SETUP dialog.
- Other minor corrections and cosmetic fixes.

Anything can be fixed, none of this is especially difficult. In fact I think BD backups are considerably less complicated than DVDs (albeit slower). But you have to have the time -- and I haven't lately. #4, however, may take some thought. When doing BD-25 I can simply keep the original intact (since these are usually smaller files), but for BD-5/9 it won't work because the bitrate is too high. BTW, the issue is ONLY the mixed progressive/interlaced sources, and they are very rare. Those who are having other issues with VC-1 aren't following the recommendations for using WMV11.

Just a quick one - I've just replaced it with the latest version and am trying to do a restart at the rebuild stage (to see if it may get around the DoRebuild error). However, whereas I could do this with the previous version the new one wants to start from scratch. I have tried the old inf file, and even tried to reproduce all of the settings in a new one but no joy. No great problem, it was just to save a few hours wasted time if it fails.

I can't think of any changes made that would cause it to not recognize the same parameters... if the previous version would resume, this one should too.

@jdobbs:
It is good to hear from you, it has been awhile, and thanks for your continued efforts to improve this great software you've developed! I have looked but can't seem to find the way to not reencode certain m2ts files, but to leave them as original and just copy them to the new project. What is the correct wording and location to put this to force BD-RB to not reencode a M2TS file? ( is it something like MIN_M2TS_SIZE...., and just below [Options] in the configuration settings or does it need to be placed in a specific location? ) Does the size of the M2TS files need to be in kb's or mb's? Though I have not needed to use this for any specific backup or file, it would be nice to understand the proper method and procedure just in case.

------------------------------
Also if option to encode extras is set to quick, it fails to encode video as well. As usual setting is same for the rest of it.
------------------------------
It fails on pass 1 of encoding. I can play "VID_00013.AVS" file in Windows Media Player and Nero Show time. Which doesn't have any sound but video plays fine. Also Anydvd is using it's default setting.
It is new project. In other words no resume from old one.
:thanks:
Let me know if you need something else related to it.

@Shuttle99, Thank You :), Had the same error and found a work around that worked for me had a few others do the same error. This is what I did and has worked 100% on all that gave me that error.
When I open the folder in BD Rebuilder I noticed there is an extra video file showing up under the audio so what ever file it was for eg 0002 I moved the file to another folder temporarily and told BD Rebuilder to open the folder again and now that extra file is not there, now click backup and you will get an erro "to be expected" in the BD log on the screen. Move that file back to where it came from and do not rescan the folder again and just click backup again and let it go. I've done this on about 5 so far and all work great. Not sure why it has worked but it has.
Not sure how you came up with that but it worked for me on Blindness will have a go with Leon later tonight

It's nice to have you back. Welcome back! :) I know somebody already said this but I think keep HD Audio should be greyed out if target size is not BD25. So people won't complain about poor quality on other media size.
Also do you still accept donation via mail. It won't give them poor quality on other targets, because it will be ignored.

Added an option to SETUP to keep HD audio streams intact (for BD25 encoding only).[/code]
Great stuff. Can't wait to test.
Does this also include uncompressed LPCM, or is just TrueHD and DTS-HD MA?
Thanks

VERBATIM, MEMOREX, TDK, MAXELL BD-R 25 GB
Free Space: 25 025 314 816 bytes
BD-RE have less capacity, but this can be fix :
Start Imgburn -> Tools -> Settings -> "Write tab" -> "Prefer format without spare areas"

Can I fit it on BD-R any way...?

Thanks Any limitations would be those associated with TSMUXER. So if you follow those rules/limitations you should be ok. I have tried the new version of BD-RB with TSMUXER v1.8.4 thru v1.8.35 and they all work correctly. Please note, though, that only v1.8.4 has been extensively tested against multiple sources.

Can I fit it on BD-R any way...? I lowered the default output target size for BD-25 for that very reason on the most recent release. BD-RE is smaller than BD-R. Are you using a specified target size, or did you get that size from one of the defaults?
I wouldn't count on a good write with a source that is larger than the target disc. You could replace one of the audio streams with a smaller one (after some manual processing) and rebuild to a smaller size.

Question.. why is --vbv-maxrate 35000 used by BD Rebuilder? Seems kinda weird/useless/unnecessary to have a bitrate peak limit.

With Arcsoft Totalmedia Theatre 3 Platinum Dolby Tru-HD does not sound if the remux I was done with tsmuxer 1.8.4 and it if heard with 1.8.35.

Because the Bluray video standard has a peak limit....:p

Incorrect. Look at the standard.
I would say you should get more informed before making such weird/useless/unnecessary statements.

Thanks for adding HD audio retention jdobbs. Big :thanks:!!!
I've tried a few encodes today but 2 or the 3 I've tried have resulred in "encoding failed" during 1st pass analysis of main move (h264 encoded material)...
Tried replacing the x264 exe for an older one from 20.xx3 release but same results.
Happens on 28 Weeks Later and 300
Haven't included log as the error is just the generic "encoding failed, retrying...encoding failed retrying....."...Then failed again and automatically aborts in 1st pass.

Try opening the AVS files with MPC and see what's happening. I haven't had any issues with the new version(s) -- but there are more things in heaven and earth than is dreamt of in my philosophy.

Try running the command line from LASTCMD.TXT (in the BD_REBUILDER directory) from the a DOS window. It should tell you what error X264 is sensing.

I have been using tsmuxer 1.8.34 on the previous build with no issues but for some reason 1.8.30 caused problems with chapter skipping and 1.8.35 just failed I think it was during the mux process but cannot remember now
thanks

Use whichever one you trust... but make sure it supports muxing the HD stream you are keeping. I just can't keep up with the TSMUXER updates and how reliable they are... the TSMUXER thread seems to be all over the place. (hmm... sounds familiar)

I am doing just a heads up for other people that may experience issues with some of the later versions afaik 1.8.34 works for both DTS-HD MA and TrueHD although im not sure about LPCM and correctly creates the clpi file without needing to be fixed so for now im sticking with this one as ive done quite a few rebuilds with this version and never experienced a problem so far
