1. 1920 x 1080 but the movie is 2.35 : 1

2. Yes. The A Team. Only ripped to hard drive.
Now I am surprised. I did the A-Team and resized it to 720 with BD-RB successfully. No issues at all .....
How do you play it? Software or standalone player? Do you perhaps use some odd settings with your player, forcing a wrong aspect ratio during playback?

I have updated the first post of this thread with a link to the latest release of BD-RB (v0.37.07). Changes for this version:- Corrected an error in which framerate could be
set incorrectly when outputting to DVD and one
of the resizing options is selected.
- Changed default audio selection behavior so that
a track will be kept (even when the language is
not one that is selected) when it is the only
audio track available. This behavior can be set
to be disabled using the new "KEEP_SINGLE_AUDIO"
hidden option (see HIDDENOPTS.TXT).
- Corrected a bug in which AVC sources may not be
recognized as pulldown when appropriate when the
480p video type is set and can result in syncing
issues. Especially useful on sources previously
run thorugh BD-RB, TSMUXER,or multiAVCHD.
- Corrected an error in which DEINTERLACER_TYPE
(hidden option) was not being read properly.
- Updated the included version of X264.EXE to the
latest release (r1924).
- Updated the included version of X264-64.EXE to
the latest release (r1924).
- Other minor corrections and cosmetic fixes.

I was playing it on the computer with VLC 1.1.7. I didn't change any settings, just double clicked the movie. I wish I hadn't deleted it or I would post a screen shot. The only thing I changed was in BD RB settings, I checked the box to resize 1080 to 720, everything else was default.

Open the movie in VLC, right click on the picture=>Video=>Aspect Ratio=>Default (or whatever you need).

@jdobbs:

I just finished doing Red Dragon (region A) to BD25.

The source is AVC and I'm using internal LAVF x264-64 decoding. While examining the encoded file I came across something I haven't before-

The main movie starts with 22 frames of gray frame (The entire movie was shifted 22 frames forward due to this).

Can you think of any reason why that would happen?

It sure sounds like a playback CODEC issue. Can you try it again without LAVF selected? I'd like to try and determine whether it is the frame-serving method or the source itself that is causing the problem.

Will do. What I can say for now is that I tried opening VID_00009.AVS (which is the video frameserve file that BD-RB created but did /not/ use because I chose LAVF) with virtualdub, and it seemed fine - no gray frames.

EDIT: Also, I indexed the output m2ts with DGIndexNV just to make sure that the gray frames are actually coded on the file and it's not a decoder issue- and it is indeed encoded like that on the file.
(I also indexed the source m2ts - and no gray frames there)

When I said "decoder" or "playback CODEC" I meant LAVF... it is the decoder used for frame-serving when it is selected. So to me your report pretty much confirms that it is a decoder issue.

I know what you meant :)

My purpose for writing this addition is exactly to tell you that the problem seems to be with the LAVF decoder rather than anything else.

I made sure that the source file isn't the problem and that the output file is indeed flawed, so that basically leaves us with your conclusion that it's a decoder issue. I'll encode again tonight without LAVF using ffdshow and directshowsource() although I'm sure it'll come out perfect.

Interesting, wouldn't you say?

reinstalled HAALI Splitter and thats now saying ok but still failing!

Uninstall everything. Reboot. Reinstall everything from the first post of this thread.

Interesting, wouldn't you say?Yes. I have long hoped that the LAVF decoder would eventually eliminate all the headaches with people installing the wrong versions of AVISYNTH, HAALI, and FFDSHOW. But... LAVF seems to have at least as many issues.

This is actually the first issue I've come across, but I imagine your milage is more significant.

I wish DGDecode was free so you could use that in a similar matter to DVD-Rebuilder.

But here's a thought - how difficult would it be writing an avisynth filter that specifically interfaces with instances of ffdshow and haali splitter? Might be worth pursuing if you can bundle the "correct" versions and then use an avisynth that loadplugins the splitter and decoder.

I don't know how feasible that is, but better say it and sound stupid then keep it to myself :)

AVISYNTH 2.58 was the culprit thanks jdobbs

Avisynth 2.58 works fine, it was your ffdshow VC-1 setting and haali causing the problem! ;)

I have done countless number of successful backups and still have never tried / used LAVF! Another reason I am staying with my past / current setup. :p
Content with my speedy method the way it is, with no desire to go faster with LAVF...

No audio on "District 13" movie only re-author.

Selecting the movie only option for District 13.

Output to 720P BD5 AVCHD Strict, 2 channel. Video plays fine, but no audio.

I've opened the (DVDFab) ripped source in PowerDVD 10, audio listed as DD5.1 640Kbps, VC1 video. Plays fine.

Opened the BDRebuilder output in the same player, video is fine but no audio, even though it thinks there is an audio track present (show info option).

So, I thought it might be my computer, so I ran RockNRolla through BDRebuilder which has the same source format (DD5.1 640K, VC1) with the same settings (720P BD5, 2CH audio output). The end result (audio and video) plays fine after BDRebuilder has done it's thing using PowerDVD 10 again.

I also tried runnning other titles through rebuilder which use TruHD as the audio source, again, no problems.

Just seems to be District13 that has problems.

Audio copy protection ???

I've added this to the bug section as while it would appear DD5.1 640K titles are being converted correctly, there is something about the audio on this title that is preventing it from bing converted at all. Not sure where to start looking either.

I've also tried DD5.1 output, same result (no audio) - but only for this title. Tried the english track, the french track, one pass, two pass...

OK.

After some more encodes, I think I know what's causing the problem.

The main movie playlist for this title includes an intro video clip that's got something to do with the distributor. The clip is less than 10 seconds long and it's encoded in VC1, but the audio is DD2.0 192K.

The audio for this short clip was being encoded OK, but it's the movie that follows which does not encode correctly.

So, I went to the HDD source, and renamed the intro mt2s clip (so it wouldn't be found). After loading up the same main movie playlist, the intro clip is now not shown, leaving the main movie only.

Everything encodes correctly.

The problem seems to have something to do with video streams in the playback sequence that use differing audio encodes.

@jdobbs

The explanation offered by "Killing Time" makes it seem that the problem with "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" (and sequels) is still rearing its ugly head...

I found a bug with 1080i sources (VC-1), specifically with The Dark Knight, the movie encode looks superb (like always), the problem is the extra video that comes in the bdmv structure (1080i).

I don't how to explain with words the issue, but is similar to screen tearing in videogames (vsync off), i do two backups, the first using the deinterlacer option and the second without it, both backups shows the problem.

Inspect Shows everything OK.

Here is the info of the m2ts file:I have that one and will test it. It's a two disc set, can I assume you're talking about Disc 1?

Yes, thanks in advance.

Do you have Black hawk down? BD-RB only shows the extras in the structure...

I mentioned that about 2 weeks ago, i tried mounting the iso, directly from disc, searching the bdmv folder... and bd-rb refuses to recognize the movie in the structure.

JDobbs, I was bothering you earlier with an audio sync delay with this title.

However , trying another full disc compression with exactly the same parameters, using the newer version of bd rb, it turned out perfectly. Not sure anything in the changelog you posted would have affected this, but I thought I would just let you know.

OT, I would like to send a donation but I want to be sure to use the same email address I used when I sent one to you for DVD rb.
Can you see if you have me as a VIP under ...removed by jdobbs... ?

hi, love your program, but occasionally have a problem
like i do now with size ending just a tiny bit too big.
my result now is (25,041,084,560 bytes)
just about 16megs too big.
i did a 2 pass, good quality reencode.
if i go back to change the size to 20megs smaller in size,
it requires me to start from scratch, when i still have the
demuxed files in the workfile directory and i still have
the results from the 1st pass of encoding.

questions
1) is there some way i dont know of to get 16megs
out of this so i dont have to reencoding at all???
2) is there a way to restart from the 2pass of reencoding
instead of starting all over again, and tell it to be 20megs
smaller???

thanks jet

thanks jet What size setting were you using? Was it BD-25 or were you using a custom size? I've never seen BD-25 oversize.

jetli

yes i was using a custom size so to keep the compression to a minimum.
but that's not really the issue.
the real issue is that the results vary significantly from disk to disk so how are we suppose to maximize the bits
while still trying to fit in a fixed amount of space. i have found that 2 passes does well and is pretty accurate
but sometimes like this time it just goes way over.

anyway questions still posed ...

jetI disagree -- it is the issue. There are many variables and the output size cannot be predicted exactly. The solution is to lower your target size so there is enough leeway that it will always fit. The bits you are saving are imperceptable -- and the aggravation of having to redo a disc greatly outweighs the placebo effect you are getting by trying to squeeze out a few extra Kbs...

If you are targeting 25GB and you are 16MB over... you are accurate to within 0.00064. Expecting to get closer than that just isn't realistic.

You probably won't be able to do an additional pass with the existing video because by default the mbtree and stats files are removed after encoding is completed.

thanks for the input, but in this case i have dts 15k audio and i dont have tools to re-encode dts/compress the audio.
is the something i could edit that will tell the second pass to compress it more than it is going to already. just 20megs
or so.

Would it be feasible for you to only re-encode some GOPs with a lower bitrate,
possibly use certain select slower settings , and then do some cutting&joining ?

jetli
6th April 2011, 00:24
GOPs ???
this is a bluray movie only, x264 video, dtshd reduced to 1536k core, 1 sub
there must be some file that the second level of reencode uses to set overall level of compression.
couldnt that be modified a bit to get 16megs?
if i could skip the 1st pass it would save me 6hrs, the 2nd pass takes 18hrs.
i think you see what im driving at. why should i have to do 2 passes a second time???

New Bug or User Error?

Hello jdobbs, I just switched to new version v0.37.07 and I am having an issue. I have about 50GB of space left on my computer and I am trying to shrink/re-build a 37GB Blu ray (Note: I still have 50GB left even with this 37GB disc on my computer) to fit on a single layer BD-R. When I start the process BD-Rebuilder tells me that the target size is 22.95GB. I also have the option of removing WORKING files after rebuilding process checked so it removes those temp files. Now I never had this issue with earlier versions (v0.37.06 etc...) but as soon as I switched to v0.37.07......everytime I try to shrink a blu ray to fit on a single layer BD-R.....BD-Rebuilder just stops around 70-90% and when I check my disk space it says I only have like couple of KB left. I am just wondering how is BD-Rebuilder using up all 50GB of space for a disc that is only 37GB. I have tried couple of disks and same problem every time.

Please advice. I do have a workaround---->use external storage but I am just curious becasue I never had this issue with older version and I have worked with Blu Rays that were around 42-44GB. Even back then I only had about 50GB space left on my computer.

Even back then I only had about 50GB space left on my computer. v0.37.07 requires and uses the exact same space as previous versions. Unfortunately you just don't have enough free disc space for it to do what it needs to do. BD Rebuilder has to extract the audio/video from the original -- which doubles the space needed, it then needs to reencode and rebuild that video, which requires a lot of space depending upon how big individual M2TS files are. Add to that the 25GB needed for the output and you're simply out...

If you have LAVF enabled, you can save a little space by disabling it. But the bottom line is that 50GB free isn't enough space when you're dealing with blu-ray sources.

Which is exactly why I employ multiple Hard drives :p I can't wait for an output path(to a separate drive). That'll speed up the Rebuild process ;)

Love your software man! I only use 3 cores of my Phenom 965 @ 3.9Ghz, and I'd swear it's equal to my 3.5Ghz 940 fully used. Allows me to have free cycles for other tasks ;) I imagine when I get 1090t, i'll only allow 5 threads most of the time. I'm currently using 0.37.07 to encode Close Encounters Of The Third kind. Excellent movie!

I'll be doing Tron Legacy tonight :D

Hi!

Have you played your original, commercial Blu-ray disc on the same system, to see if it exhibits the same behavior?

Hi!

Have you played your original, commercial Blu-ray disc on the same system, to see if it exhibits the same behavior? I'm thinking the same thing. It could be the original or a CODEC issue during frame-serving. It just seems unlikey that tearing like that would occur as a part of the encoding.

Yes, i played the original disc on the PS3 without problems.

Tomorrow i will do a backup with the LAVF option activated...

Hello jdobbs,
First of all, apologizing because this text this once a translator was made with.

Second
My opinion is that this program is fantastic.

Third party
One of the problems that I have, is next:
When bluray encode a complete bluray to dvd9, my player of living room sony s470, some movies you recognize them to me and other ones you do not recognize my record, having me that to appropriate an authorship for oneself, in order that at least you have a menu. Is there solution ad hoc? For example XXX this ok, Mortal kombat NOT ok

Room
The option of taking extras away, or to leave them with a black screen, I believe that not yet it is possible This is that way, or am I wrong?

Fifth
No himself if these questions in previous posts will be responded, but my knowledge in English is minimal, and I create a mess

Thanks from the start and for your job

GreetingsIt is likely that the ones with issues are those that use JAVA for menus. Some players (like the Sony S360) will play a BD-9 full backup with any type of menuing. Others (like yours) will only play it if no JAVA is present. There are also some that will not play full backups to BD-9 at all.

If your player supports AVCHD, it is pretty much always safe to do BD-5 and BD-9 movie-only backups. It is also always safe to do BD-25 full backups for all players.

Probably not a bug. I'm sure I did something wrong, just not sure what.
I attempted to rebuild Star Trek to BD5 just to see how it would look at the reduced size.
I have installed all the necessary programs to use BD RB, however, ffdshow was not the most up to date. I had rev 2033. And it may not have been configured correctly.
I ended up with a workfiles folder size of 5.3gb. But the BDMV folder was only 1.53gb. I had no errors. It appeared to complete correctly. The movie played great - good resolution, sound etc. But it was only the first 10-15 minutes of the movie. That is all that was rebuilt.

Is using ffdshow rev3326 going to solve this problem? or could it be something else.

Thank you.
