J D, NTSC.

Additionally let me ask you this, in FFDshow, Should the decoder setting for VC1 be set to WM9 or set to disabled? In terms of a 75% compression, would the results achieved from the high quality setting be much better than the good quality setting on a 46in screen? And how would this compare with the high speed option?

If you are using Windows 7 it should be set to "wmv9". If you are using Windows XP and you have WMP 11 installed, set it to "disabled". For Windows XP and any other version of WMP, set it to "wmv9".

By 75% do you mean reducing it by 75% (to 25% of its original size) or reducing it to 75% of its original size? If you mean the latter (and original BD sizes), you could likely use the fastest mode available with one pass and not see the difference.

The later, reducing the size by 25%. By the fastest option, do you mean "Good" or "High speed" since the end result will always be a bd-25

But there are some which require almost 50% and I would appreciate your advice here as which setting provides high quality results.

About the slow motion effect, would that be a problem caused by using wm9 instead of wm11? How about anything in the set up configuration for general or video encoding? Or should I check to see if there is a problem in the HDMI sync between BD player and TV? Everything else plays fine though.

This is off topic ..... I plan on upgrading my system to an icore 7 within a few months. Is the latest DVD RB still available for download through my email acct?

It really depends on the resulting bitrate. 50% doesn't really mean anything by itself -- you'd have to consider "50% of what". For example, you might have a 2 hour movie that was encoded at an extraordinarily high bitate -- and you could reduce that to 50% of it original size with the highest speeds and see no quality loss. But what if you had 6 hours of content on the original? See what I mean? That's why I created the "Automatic" setting. That way the program looks at the total time and the resulting bitrates -- and it determines the best settings.

I don't think slo-mo would be a result of the CODEC uses (wmv9 or wm11). It would more likely indicate a wrong framerate.

DVD-RB is always available for download if you're a registered VIP. You can either go to the site (http://www.jdobbs.com/Pages/DVDRebuilder/DVD-RB_Pro_download.htm) directly, or send an e-mail to dvd-rb@dvd-rb.com and I'll send you a new notification with download links.

If it asks you that question, it means the settings aren't the same as when you started the encode and it whould have to start over for the new settings to have effect. If you say "No", you are saying you don't want it to continue in that process. If you desire, you can then change your settings to match those used for the original encode, and it will pick up where it left off. The whole purpose of asking that question is to ensure you don't "accidentally" delete your working folder and restart when that wasn't your intention.

Gotcha. I didn't change any settings between starting the encode and attempting to resume it. X264 crashed, I aborted and closed BD-RB, rebooted, then attempted to restart the rebuild immediately--nothing else was done in BD-RB or otherwise on the PC between the abort/close and attempting to restart the build. I tried again moments later, same thing. I tried again just now (after not having opened BD-RB since then), same thing. If they're of any help, INF and LOG are below:

@sonate

Are you in an NTSC or a PAL country?

im in pal.... italy..... im sure everything is correct and only thing changed is bd rebuilder... im not sure if i run it for the fisrt time as administrator.... maybe i wrong something... can you explain me how can i reset win registry to restart bd rebuilder as new? all codecs are set correctly... now i will try to disable vc1 option... maybe it works.... however i tried to use another bd program (bd cloner) and it reports lethal weapon 3 as 24 frame rate instead of 29,97 as bd rebuilder.... now im little confusing.... maybe bd rebuilder recognise incorrectly the frame rate and so it starts with ivtc option? however now im downloading another movie and will try .... hope to get it working..... let me know how can i do to restart bd rebuilder clean as run as first time thx....

here's what i get when starting encoding.... im thinking seriously that is a problem of bd movie ... original size however plays well with no issue... when i encode it i get video issue... however i was wrong... extras are at 29,97... movie is24 frame... but issue still remains in movie too... grey screen with only audio heraing for the first 2 or 3 sec and random grey screen during movie.... what the hell this damned movie? reallly strange....
i dont know what kind of thing to try now.... i tried everything.... only way is reset bd rebuilder ... please let me know how can i clean win registry to restart brand new bdrb

I guarantee you something changed. That's how it works. That message won't come up unless it has.

here's what i get when starting encoding.... im thinking seriously that is a problem of bd movie ... original size however plays well with no issue... when i encode it i get video issue... however i was wrong... extras are at 29,97... movie is24 frame... but issue still remains in movie too... grey screen with only audio heraing for the first 2 or 3 sec and random grey screen during movie.... what the hell this damned movie? reallly strange....
i dont know what kind of thing to try now.... i tried everything.... only way is reset bd rebuilder ... please let me know how can i clean win registry to restart brand new bdrbIt's almost assuredly a bad rip. The gray screen comes up for frames that can't be decoded properly.

I'll see if I can find that disc, and find out why the "Inverse Telecining" message comes up. Have you tried it with IVTC disabled?

with previous version of bd rebuilder 03604 ivtc option was deselected by default and i converted alot of bd with no problem... when i started the new 03703 i notice immediately the option ivtc selected and if i disable i got black screen in encoding (only audio) and i noticed a very fast speed encoding (about 400 frame/sec instead on normal 20 30 when selected) i converted a roberto benigni movie and got no problem (was vc1 24 frame) and no ivtc message during encoding even if the option was selected!
i really wondering what the hell could be happened with this movie ... if you find the disc and try let me know... lethal weapon 3 (from boxset of 4 movie) euro version for sure (it has alot of languages) i will try to download the 4th movie and check what's happened.... if you think it could be helpful i can re download the first or second movie that i just converted using 03604 version and try to reencode with new version.... if i got error it must be bd rebuilder for sure because as you can see the system is right configured and win 7 is just reinstalled and clean... however if there is a ay to clean registry and try to restart bd rebuilder let me know and i will try ok? thx...

ps i got the movie from internte and not ripped by disc directly but i think they are good rip... the first 2 movie were ok... i dont know why the 3rd must have problems... however in original size the movie plays well....

Since BD-RB is designed to be used on original Blu-ray discs, ripped preferably with AnyDVD HD, or DVDFab if you must, your situation suggests either a preprocessed disc or an illegally obtained download. Both are not what jdobbs has made clear are acceptable sources!

Here is the bottom line. If you aren't physically inserting a disc into your drive, ripping it yourself, and running BD-RB against the output -- you are NOT TO POST IN THIS THREAD. If you download ANYTHING you get what you get... and if you read through this forum you'll see that THAT IS ALMOST ALWAYS WHERE THE PROBLEM IS.

Continue posting these types of "bugs" and you will get additional strikes and eventual inability to participate in this forum. You have been warned.

To be honest if I was in place of Jdobbs, I won't even trust you anymore. By the way you won't get help unless orginial are used any by that I mean not renting them and making backup.

Add to that the fact that he says he is in a PAL country -- but somehow has a 29.97fps extra on his disc (which is an NTSC signal standard). That doesn't sound right to me.

BDs sometimes use that resolution for extras (they just lift them off the DVD) -- not in Italy, though.

I'm having problems backing up 2 out of 3 movies from my Aliens triple pack. Aliens (2nd movie) encodes fine and maintains a proper aspect ratio and displays in widescreen. For some reason no matter what settings i check/uncheck in setup alien and alien 3 come out with a 4:3 aspect ratio.

The weird thing is that if i encode just a snip of the movie, it encodes and comes out properly at 16:9 with letterboxing. But if i run the whole movie through it seems like it's disreguarding any of the info I pass even if I try tossing a custom AVS at it.

I'm rather baffled at this point. Are the anamorphic properties throwing it off somewhere during the encode? Is it just improperly reading and then setting the tag for the aspect ratio?

Below are two image examples of what I mean. First one is the original, second one is the re-code.

Let me know what addition info you may need on this one.

*edit it says the attachements are pending approval so im not sure if you can see them to grab them.

Alien Triple Pack is a DVD box set which would explain the MPEG-2 720x480 and the 4.5GB input size.
Alien Anthology is the Blu-ray version.

I ripped from disc and restructered as bdmv to pass thru bd rebuilder.. is this not allowed?
If you own the original disc, yes.
But jdobbs does not support processed sources. Usually the third party software introduces the bug, and is not the fault of BD-RB.

Nalios

It is from an original disc.. I ripped from disc and restructered as bdmv to pass thru bd rebuilder.. is this not allowed? You "restructured". That is preprocessing. I'm guessing that you used multiAVCHD to convert a DVD to BDMV format. The problem is that sometimes multiAVCHD sets the aspect ratio wrong in the CLPI of its output (I've had it happen to me). So when BD-RB reads it -- it is already incorrect.

In other words -- the problem is there before BD-RB even reads it -- and it is not a bug.

This is what I mean by "preprocessing" -- when you are working with anything other than an original BD, I cannot respond to bug reports because I never know what has happened to the source before it gets to BD-RB.

Nalios
26th January 2011, 05:10
Nope. Just used TsMuxer to toss it into a bd-structure. But totally understandable, it may well be TsMuxer's fault. Again thanks for the replies.

Not to belittle anyone here... jdobbs, you have the patience of Job.

Thanks for putting up with all of us, and sticking with the development of this program. I actually like following this thread now, because it helps me take a good long look at things when the poop hits the fan!

On that note, one quick question (hehe): I was backing up a multi-episode anime disc last night, and it hung in pass 1 of 1 while reencoding with this error:
"Error in attempt to extract audio/subs" (this was VID_00039)

To which I replied: F. Then I just shut down the machine to deal with it later.

So I turned my system back on today and just started again, doing a continuation of the backup. Phase one started at VID_00040. Does this mean it has skipped VID_00039, then? Should I have just started over from scratch?

As an addendum to the first post in this thread, as we're now up to 500+ pages, could you put a small "troubleshooting" item at the end of that first post? Like, "Run INSPECT.EXE, post results, as well as blahblahblah.log files located here and here"? I know one of these many pages I've read has what you've suggested we need to post. I think it may help us to help you if we knew exactly what you'd like us to post, and it would be obvious to have it there.

Just a thought. I'll wait for your response before digging up all of the log files for the above issue. Note that I haven't played back the finished backup, as it's still under way.

@torque2k;
if you look inside the Workfiles folder, you can see if there is a VID_00039.avs.264 file. If so, see if there is a 00039.m2ts file in the completed BDMV/Streams folder.
If not, see if there is a VID_00039.avs file created. If so, see if you can open that file with MPC.

Aw, crud! I have the option "Remove workfiles after rebuild" checked, and I just read your message AFTER the end of the rebuild. Well, I'll have to play back VID_00039.m2ts from the rebuild tomorrow to see if the audio is there and in sync (yes, it exists). Size is about right, but we'll see.

Try to open up that AVS with either Media Player Classic or WMP and see what kind of error you might get.

I assume that is the 00026 file under BDMV/STREAM which it's trying to separate the video and audio and work with each.

Anyway WMP (ver 9) says that it doesn't recognize the file extension but might play it anyway which it does. I did an open with using "media player" (which I assume is classic media player) and it says "cannot determine device type from the given filename extension".

Nero Showtime plays it too.

Any ideas. Thanks!

That's the one your log references in the error message. If it is good it should play back the audio (only).

I have a number of selections I have authored with TMPgenc Authoring Works 4 (football games, actually) where I have created menus to select by quarters. When I compress them with BD_Rebuilder the menus no longer function. The m2ts files are compressed fine, however, (along with the menu file which is also m2ts).

TMPgenc reencodes all the original video to AVC.

The original plays fine with TMT3, but the reduced copy does not.

Is it your intention to make bd_rb work with selections not authored by the movie houses? If not, I understand.

One thing I did notice when comparing the before and after with BDedit is that the .clpi file for the BD-RB output is missing the IG stream. I believe this has the menu items.

27th January 2011, 19:17
Nope... my intent is to make it work with anything that complies with the BD standard. You are referring to what I believe is a known issue (which happens, but not often). It is likely that TMPEGEnc Authoring Works created the menu with the IGS in-mux. That's pretty rare on commercial discs. Currently TSMUXER does not handle IGS streams. I am working on a "remuxing" algorithm that will retrieve the IGS from the original and reintegrate it into the TSMUXER output. I was hoping to have this completed for the next release -- but honestly it isn't going very well, so I don't know if it will be there yet.

Do I have a bad rip or is something not configured correctly?

Does the problem also impact on the work to remux DTS-Express tracks?

I'm currently not buying any Sony BD, because of the impossibility to back them up (most of them have a DTS Express track). My guess is when BD Rebuilder gets that feature, Sony will get a sales boost.

Oh, I forgot about Cinavia. Now I guess the sales boost won't happen soon. :p

When I try to play it with WMP I get:
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The file is either corrupt or the Player does not support the format you are trying to play."

With Media Player Classic I get:
"cannot render the file"

Do I have a bad rip or is something not configured correctly?

ThanksInteresting. You might need to configure FFDSHOW to play back RAW audio. You can do that by selecting "all aupported" under "Uncompressed" in the FFDSHOW audio configuration utility.

If that isn't it -- then it just might be that something actully is corrupted in the audio source.

Also -- can you open that .AVS with notepad and past the contents? At least then I can see if ther is something unusual going on.

@torque2k;
if you look inside the Workfiles folder, you can see if there is a VID_00039.avs.264 file. If so, see if there is a 00039.m2ts file in the completed BDMV/Streams folder.
If not, see if there is a VID_00039.avs file created. If so, see if you can open that file with MPC.

Well, even though I didn't have my workfiles, the resultant 00039.m2ts track played back perfectly! So I thought, excellent, no extra work necessary!

Popped it into ImgBurn to run it out to BD-R... too large. Went over 25GB by about a half gig.

This anime (Samurai 7, Disc 1) is one I left the TRUE_HD multi-channel audio enabled for both the Japanese and English tracks. I also had the subtitles left in English. AUD_001 was English, AUD_002 was Japanese.

I rebuilt it today, but I disabled the Japanese audio, and it rebuilt perfectly, burned fine, and is playing as I type, no hiccups on VID_00039 this time.

Bah... I never listen to those things in Japanese, anyway.

Thanks for the assist! Yet another tool tip for troubleshooting.

OK, FFDSHOW is already set for all supported under Uncompressed.

Another revelation, I opened the file with notepad and it was blank. I looked at the file size and it is zero. So when it pulled the audio out it failed before it wrote anything. Sorry I overlooked that originally.

In my experience, I keep the Workfiles folder and only delete it after I am certain my backup is satisfactory. There have been many times when I want to tweak a certain file, and then rebuild again, and by keeping it I save myself from doing another complete backup! :)

Sorry I overlooked that originally.??? It writes that AVS file before it even attempts the encode? That means it had to have failed in its attempt to create the AVS file...

I can't think of anything that could cause that?

Jdobbs, I'm trying to backup Generation Kill Disc 1. When attempting a full backup, it lists "Approximate Source Content" at over six hours, when there is only a little over three hours. I've verified this using readmpls.exe. It looks to me as though the amount is doubled. When attempting to run the backup process, the bitrates end up being almost halved what they should be and I get a severely undersized output (around 16gb).

Any ideas?

Note: I'm using the correct versions of each software from your first post. Can you give me some specifics? I just loaded "Generation Kill" Disc 1 -- and it says "3:34:06.358" as the total time.

I checked the length of each episode. It's not doubling exactly, it's adding an hour to each episode(playlist).

IE: Length of all episodes combined is 3:34. It's showing 6:34 as "approximate source content".

If I select "movie-only" and use "other movie playlist", and select one episode, it will add one hour on top of the original length.

Hope this helps. Following up on the last post -- I also tried this... and it is telling me the correct times for each episode.

This isn't a preprocessed source is it?
