I searched for a simple answer but didn't find one.
BD-RB works flawlessly with any BD or mkv file I throw at it, but I'm consistently having an audio sync issue with most of my captured 1080i mpg files. These files are 1080i ac3 mpg and they play fine on their own. However, I like converting them to 1080p and shrinking them to fit on DL or SL disks, which is where BD-RB comes in. I've tried numerous versions up to 3808, but still get what appears to be a several second difference between the audio and video. Using Handbreak, the files turn out fine but it takes several times longer than BD-RB.
Inspect reports the following:
- Windows Version: 5.1 [2600]
- AVISYNTH Version: 2.5.7.0, Ok
- HAALI Splitter: 1.11.96.14 Isn't recommended version
- FFDSHOW: 3882, Ok
- FFDSHOW VC-1 set "disabled", WMP11, Ok
- FFDSHOW MPEG2 set to "libavcodec": Ok
- FFDSHOW AVC set to "ffmpeg-mt": Ok
- BD Rebuilder v0.38.0.8, Ok
- X264: Ok
- AFTEN: Ok
- FAAC: Ok
- MP4BOX: Ok
- WAVI: Ok
- TSMUXER: Ok
My settings are:
- Use Deinterlacer
- Do not reencode AC3
One post here indicated that certain Haali splitters may be an issue (most current?).
Thoughts or suggestions welcome :)

How do you convert your captured .mpg file into a blu-ray structure ready for BD RB?
Is the audio of the corresponding .m2ts file in sync (i.e. before processing it with BD-RB)?

How do you convert your captured .mpg file into a blu-ray structure ready for BD RB?
Is the audio of the corresponding .m2ts file in sync (i.e. before processing it with BD-RB)?
I use tsMuxeR to create the necessary input file structure for BD-RB, and the mt2s file plays fine and is properly sync'd. Note also that I typically have BD-RB set NOT to re-encode ac3 files (thought I may try re-encoding to see what happens). Thus, the issue takes place during the BD-RB conversion.
Also, I neglected to mention this and not sure if it matters, but most of the files that end up out of sync are B&W - I seem to have fewer issues with color mpgs.
FYI - Here's the log file for my last attempt:

@sfcav;
I would suggest you uncheck Remove Workfiles folder, so that you keep the reencoded files for re-integrating manually via tsMuxeR, trying different audio delays until you get the audio synced. :p
Since I do not believe this is a BD-RB bug, and jdobbs probably has no way to get his hands on this type of source to experiment with, I recommend starting a new thread so we don't continue in this bug reports thread. ;)

I would like to use BD Rebuilder to shrink a Blu-Ray disc of the Brandenburg Concertos (prestoclassical.co.uk/r/Medici%2BArts/2056738). It has two audio tracks, both LPCM - one is stereo and the other 5.1. The stream loads in BD-RB, but both audio tracks have a red cross by them. I have all audio boxes unchecked in Settings, and German is selected under Audio Languages to Keep (they are labelled German, but there is only music on the disc). The problem occurs whether the Source is the disc itself (with AnyDVD) or an image ripped to my hard drive using AnyDVD. Am I doing something wrong (probable), or is this a bug in BD-RB (unlikely)? The BD-RB FAQ implies that BD-RB will handle LPCM.
Edit: My apologies. The problem was solved by selecting "All Languages" in Settings.

Actually selecting "all languages" will do more harm then good. When you try to compress a movie then it will keep ALL languages leaving less room the actual video. The reason the streams had a red X is because you UNTICKED all checkboxes. The checkboxes are not for wich audio you wish to remove but for wich audio you wish to KEEP. If you select English (eng) and Germand (deu). They should get detected properly

Make sure you select both German audio types ("ger" and "deu" I believe).

Thanks Capsbackup for the suggestion. As an update, I just finished aBD-RB 3809 run where I un-checked "Do not reencode AC3", but the sync issue remains. Regarding keeping the workfiles and merging them myself, I tried that with the final m2ts file (demuxing or remuxing with delays), but the audio and video are so far out of sync (at least 30 seconds) that getting them to match would be quite difficult. As I mentioned before, Handbreak handles the files perfectly but takes much longer and isn't as streamline, which is why I'm hoping to find a BD-RB solution.
I will cut and test a piece of the orignial mpg file, in case posting somewhere would be helpful.
PS - Two additional notes:
1. The audio delay starts at the beginning of the BD-RB mt2s file and gets longer throughout the file (not constant)
2. I was able to reproduce the delay with a 100 MB segment of the mpg file.

.....
Looks like the framerate of the (deinterlaced?) video is incorrect, i.e. the movie duration does not match the audio duration.
Try to not select "Use deinterlace ...." in the setup, leave it interlaced.

Thanks Sharc: Tried BD-RB with "Use deinterlacer" unchecked (nothing checked under Video Encoding Options), but got the same result.
Just ran the file through TS Doctor and it found 2 errors in the AC3 stream - will now try BD-RB on the 'fixed' file!
2011-08-28
The 'fixed' file still resulted in the variable audio delay issue.

Hi all,
I just tried to reencode an BD to an MKV file several times:
I choose 2 DTS audio tracks and 2 PGS subtitle tracks. But always in the end, when BDR says its finished, there is no completely finished MKV but only an MKV file in the workfile folder with only *one* audiotrack (with no language info) and no subtitles at all. I've tried 3 times already. I chose CRF 18 mode.
What's going on? Is this a bug?

@samtroy
Hi!
I believe I read elsewhere in this thread (or another thread in this sub-forum), that in order for the German tracks to be properly processed, you have to select them an BOTH "DEU" and "GER"...
samtroy
29th August 2011, 10:07
Thanks for the tip. I did exactly what you said:
-> AUDIO_TO_KEEP=deu;eng;ger;
-> SUBS_TO_KEEP=deu;eng;ger;
But still the same bug: There's a MKV file inside the "WORKFILES" folder but it has only one audiotrack (without language info!) and no subs at all! All the needed and initially checked streams (2 audiotracks and 2 PGS subtitles) are there in the folder as well but don't get muxed into the MKV by BD Rebuilder.
I even tried a different movie and also deleted BDR's ini file beforehand to make sure there's no problem from an older version.
Seems like BDR's MKV-output feature has some serious bugs.
jdobbs, can you help please?
S.
Edit: I tried again with another movie and SUBS and AUDIO_TO_KEEP=ALL -> the same faulty result! BDR just won't mix all the streams together in the end.

didn't jdobbs say a while ago that mkv only supported 1 sub?

Something you installed has taken preference from haali, ffdshow or Avisynth. You should not have any codec packs installed, only the above mentioned. Uninstall those three programs and any codec packs ( check your uninstall programs list for what is on your system ). Reboot and install those three programs jdobbs has available from the first page of this thread.

Been awhile since I encoded any Blu-ray's, but I just started again recently. I did many successful rebuilds, but I keep getting the same error on two, BSG The Plan and Terminator 2. They both fail to retrieve audio, and tsmuxer stops responding and I have to force it to close. Any ideas what is wrong? I'm guessing something with my systems, as on the computer I normally encode blu-ray's BSG fails around 17% but I tried both on this computer and BSG failed before it could even do anything (although T2 seemed to fail at the same spot it did on my other system). Also, I searched this post for tsmuxer crashes and only found old posts about subs. I tried both without subs wih the same results. Also, Inspect.exe reports everything ok.

Blu-ray to DVD conversion works great except that for a couple of things:
It places a period in the lower right corner of the image for subtitles. It's not too distracting, but is just a bit odd. Just thought I'd mention it, as I haven't seen it noted here before.
1 pass with HCEnc doesn't seem to take, even with the line HC_ONEPASS=1 in bdrebuilder.ini.
Also, for some TV series discs there is no playlist for all episodes, so there's no nice way to encode them all in one go with BD Rebuilder. A way to select sequential titles would be nice for alternative outputs, for this reason.
Anyway, thanks for the excellent software!

As you can see, the inspection fails quite extremely. You need to set certain key elements correctly to rebuild BD's. Since you say you've rebuilt some BD's in the past, you must have installed a codec/pack recently, which mucked up the settings?

No - nothing recently. I used BD Rebuilder earlier today and it worked fine. Just doesn't like this title.

Hmm I can't see that any settings are wrong - and i don't know how the configurations would have changed since last i used bd rebuilder.
I have FFDshow video decoder for VC-1 set to wmv9 and mpeg 2 to libavcodec. Anything else i should look for?

I'm not sure which version Jdobbs implemented the fix for incorrectly set settings. But 38.09 offers to set it up for you upon installation. Because somehow my settings were wrong last time I updated, and it offered to fix the settings. I was delightfully surprised :D

The thing is that I haven't knowingly installed any codecs for ages. What's more I had 2 ripped blu-rays, both vc-1, which I was rebuilding. The first was Fast & Furious 5 which completed successfully. A bit later in the day I tried Adjustment Bureau & I got the error. When I go back to F&F5 I now get the same message and it can't complete. Something funny is going on. Might try and uninstall all BD rebuilder progs & start from scratch. If that doesn't work will load a backup system image & see if that works.

That's a good idea. Also, take a look though your installed programs again just to make SURE that no other codecs are installed.
Once your reinstall is done, the first thing to do (after running BDRB for the first time as "admin" -- right-click!) is to check "inspect.exe" to see if everything is "ok". If you can't get those errors to disappear then let us know.

Other software will often change your setting without the courtesy of letting you know they have done so.
Your settings are wrong, regardless of how it happened or how any of us feel about it. BD-RB looked at them and reported them as they are. If you want it to work I'd suggest you stop debating it and simply reinstall as I suggested...

Nothing to debate - the settings for win7 are clearly wrong - but why they are wrong is a good (i thought) question. Nevertheless I started from scratch, ran BD Rebuilder as an administrator & all is good again. Thanks for the help.

Hi,
Just tried to do a Full Disk Backup of "Disney's A Christmas Carol" (which has something like 70 VIDs) and got a size error (file was too big) when ImgBurn tried to burn a 25 gB disc. I tried it with the automatic quality setting and two-pass Good (very fast) setting. What info (if any) do you need?
Thanks

Warner's US release of "A Star Is Born". Movie-only backup results in audio several seconds out of sync.
Looks like it might have something to do with a text information screen which is shown before the actual movie starts: audio begins playing right away when it should start only after the info screen has faded away and the movie proper begins.
Another way to explain it
Text screen of 5 seconds: file 00000.m2ts, no audio
Movie: file 00001.m2ts, with audio
#1) According to playlist, files 00000.m2ts and 00001.m2ts are combined into a new 00000.m2ts
#2) Audio is set to start from 00:00:00 of the new 00000.m2ts, even though it should start after a 5-second delay

But I don't understand your report... you're reporting output that has audio sync issues, but your log shows an encode failure?
I'd recommend you reinstall from scratch following the directions in the first post of this thread. I'd also suggest that if you are overclocked, you lower the speed. Something is clearly wrong, and it looks like your system -- as the encode had issues during the first pass.

Hi!
Have you played your original, commercial Blu-ray disc, also using PowerDVD 11, to determine whether that disc also plays with an audio lag?
The original disc is played perfectly by PowerDVD 11.
