View Full Version : BD Rebuilder Beta - Bug Reports Only

I'm looking at it. But with the amount of work involved, it may require a "Pro" version so I can recover costs. Donations have pretty much vanished in the last couple years (explaining the long times between versions). Even if I did a Pro version, though, I'd grandfather anyone who had already donated for BD-RB or DVD-RB or had substantially contributed through bug reports.
I think the most useful function would be importing 4K video and authoring it into a UHD BD.
No promises though, as I've just started researching it.
You should absolutely do a PRO version so you can get paid, period.
You should provide an up front purchase for those who want that, and you should also provide (my preference) a monthly subscription. The reason being is that if people want to use this excellent and now essential program, they need to cough up the monthly $5.99 or whatever. That ASSURES you a regular income; that is the only one that does in my lowly and wretched opinion.
That way, all the nice people here who use it, say 100 people hopefully, then you have a regular, recurring income of $600/month.
A no-brainer to me... :)

Is anyone else having trouble with this site? Everytime I come here I have to login again -- it doesn't remember me anymore.
I went through that recently after an Avast IS Un/Install. I think it screwed with my Firefox settings. I won't use another browser, Chrome tracks. However, Doom9 doesn't always inform my Email I have something new from here.

i have try tsmuxer with input .m2ts uhd (from bd uhd) and:
dont create Blu-ray folder

While on the surface it may look the same, the authoring of the disc is a little different. There are some differences in the features, which has to be handled by a new authoring program.
In other words, the engine under the hood of a UHD disk is a little different than the engine under the hood of a Blu-ray disk.
i hope for release

A little I'm searched and to internet found same version codec X264, but with other size see. link.

This codec at processing not once no srasch. It is possible codecs version 2665 compare and give here know in what are other and whether it is possible use and me found codec without reduction in quality output videos?
Yet I'm found out that the at option "Use DirectshowSource frame serving" at two pass uses latest version codec X264 (file X264.exe) how for frame serving so and for encoding, but at options "Use X264s internal LAVF for frame serving" uses older versuses older version codec X264 (file X264L - 64.exe) how for frame serving so and for encoding.
Which option is then for quality better?

I have updated the first post of this thread with a link to the most recent version (v0.50.25) of BD Rebuilder. Changes for this release: - Fixed an issue that could cause CRF value
prediction to jump dramatically on the
final value when using One-Pass CRF.
- Added a fix that prevents encoding from
failing when attempting to encode multipart
sources to ALTERNATE HEVC that have the
ATCDelta flag asserted.
- Modified the file import mechanism so it
fixes MKV inconsistencies caused by oddball
muxing engines. It "prepares" (remuxes)
MKV files before attemping import. This
fixes occasional sync issues with audio
during imports of MKV. This can be disabled
via the "Import/Quick-Play Settings" dialog
from the SETTINGS menu (to save time).
- Added a new IMPORT_CONVERT_FORCE hidden
setting. Forces imports to be reencoded
(to AVC) during import (even when it isn't
required).
- Added IMPORT_VFR_DISABLE as a hidden option
When set to "1", BD-RB ignores indicators
to the contrary, and assumes constant frame
rate.
- Corrected a rare issue that could occur
when performing file imports that require
conversion to AVC or VFR reencoding.
- Fixed an error in which ALTERNATE resizing
may not occur as specified on certain files
that have been imported into a pseudo-BD
structure.
- Updated the included version of X264.EXE to
the latest release (r2851).
- Updated the included version of X264-64.EXE
to the latest release (r2851).
- Other minor corrections and cosmetic fixes.

i have try tsmuxer with input .m2ts uhd (from bd uhd) and:
dont create Blu-ray folder
can create .m2tsI also noticed that a start code of x000001E0 is used in TSMUXER HEVC M2TS streams I've tested... while it appears UHD M2TS files use x000001E1 (at least on the one disc I have for testing). That means the entire output M2TS would likely have to be scanned and start codes rewritten. It's easy enough to do -- but certainly time consuming. It might be possible to patch TSMUXER, but I'm not sure if that's even allowable under its freeware license agreement.
If you use a 2160p source to mux, TSMUXER will accept it and write a BD structure, but flags it as 1080p in the MPLS and CLPI files. The headers on the the files (MPLS, CLPI, etc) would all have to be updated to version 3 as well.

Of course it was impossible to produce a Blu-ray structured ISO file, or BD layout. HEVC is not supported on Blu-ray. No player would play it.
It would have to be recoded to H.264 and tsmuxer doesn't do encoding.
You can retry until you are blue-in-the-face. It ain't gonna happen.

It would be nice to see BD Rebuilder add support for UHD be it size reduction, UHD to BD, UHD to DVD, or UHD to alternate movie-only output. Obviously, this requires work. It would be wonderful if a "Pro" version weren't necessary but there are obvious reasons why it would have to be. Count me as one of those interested.
Regardless of whether or not this path is gone down your hard work is always appreciated, jdobbs.

Right, only if you purchased a new UHD/4K player. I knew I should have stipulated 1080p H.264 (best video :D ) Blu-ray players. The Blu-ray term is very confusing, since both players use Blu-ray media, but even the 4K BD media is a little different. Just that they both use the Blu-ray laser.

Dumb question... Since 4K releases all come with a BD disc as well, who cares? Just rip the BD that comes in the release.

Dumb question... Since 4K releases all come with a BD disc as well, who cares? Just rip the BD that comes in the release.
Valid question/point. Over time I could see the BD/UHD combo sets not always being available. Just as we don't always see DVD/BD sets. In the end it would save studios money to not sell you both at the same time. If a BD disc was included in the purchase then, absolutely, dealing with the BD release would be more convenient in numerous ways. If not then you won't have a choice.
At present you can always use something like Handbrake or another program to convert a UHD m2ts to lower resolution output. You just have to get around the AACS first. That said, if I could use BD Rebuilder for something like this I would prefer it over something else. :)
Whether or not jdobbs wants go down this rabbit hole is his decision, of course, and I don't see there being a huge rush, at present. :)

Regardless of whether or not this path is gone down your hard work is always appreciated, jdobbs. You can be sure that all those are possible and will be available at some point. As for UHD-BD to UHD-BD -- I'm still in the research mode for that one. First I will need to buy a UHD player -- but it costs $179 for the cheapest one I have seen, and wealthy is one of the things I can confidently say I am not. In the meantime I will continue in my research.
One other valid point... my experience has been that creating a backup from a higher resolution results in better quality than same-to-same. So I would think that a single layer 1080p BD made from a UHD source would look better than one made from a dual-layer BD source. Mostly just my humble opinion based on experience, though. I haven't done any testing to prove it.

Completely understandable concerning costs, etc, and why a Pro version would be necessary, IMHO. Nonetheless, you still have to put in the up-front investment in money, research, testing, etc, when UHD hasn't penetrated that deep into the market yet. At this point there's no rush but it would be useful for some.

Absolutely. I've also had similar experiences with BD to DVD backups where the converted output is clearly better than the actual retail DVD release, IMO.

if I can give you an advice, you do not need an uhd reader/writer
to do the tests just download a rip and try to work with it
to burn, then, just a normal blu-ray DL burner
The first step, if I can afford it, would be to eliminate the languages and subtitles that do not interest you to drop the size of blu-ray UHD (usually 66Gb) into a 50GB blu-ray
in the test I did last night with "passengers" using tsmuxer, the total size (choosing only one language and one subtitle) dropped from 58GB to 45GB
perfect for entering a BD-R DL. unfortunately, as we know, the output of tsmuxer is not good for UHD!
this would already be a great thing!
I doubt, but if you need to do some tests, I'm available
whatever happens you are a big one and thanks for all

[02:53:49] - Failed to retrieve audio, aborted
The error message is on all 3 movies the same but on other xxx.m2ts files.
The two 2D movies I have encoded with another prog without any probs but not the SMURFS 3D multiangel movie because the other prog don't support multiangel.
What can I do to encode the complete BD50 to BD25 without any probs and errors? If I use tsmuxer to create one movie only BD (without menu) from the multipart files I have no errors or buffer overflows. I don't know why it happens on BD-Rebuilder.
I have tested it with BD-Reb since v0.50.20.
many thx and kind regards

Hmmm it can't be a bad rip because I used always newest AnyDVD Version and also testet ist with DVDfab and Passkey (Trial Versions) on two PCs. The ripped BD50 isos are full playabel! And I also have made with anydvd complete isos including the copy protection. All ripped BDs have had no read errors and all BD50 isos (with and without copy protection) can played fine with PowerDVD and free blurayplayer software.
And my mistake... BAYWATCH is from Paramount not Sony.
Any other ideas?
P.S. I can rip all the movies again because I have all the movies on original BD but I did it at least 3 times in two weeks with different AnyDVD Versions and DVDfab Passkey on 2 different PCs without any read errors on the BDs. :(

Any other ideas?Nope. That error can't occur unless there is a corrupt source. It actually has nothing to do with BD-RB -- the error is reported by TSMUXER as it tries to demux.
BD Rebuilder automatically attempts separate demuxing for video when this type of error occurs. It looks like it got an error when trying to do all tracks, then the video demuxed correctly, but the audio/subs portion failed. It's possible that some audio or subtitle track was added purposely (new protection?) that is corrupt -- but is never used during playback. I'd just be guessing.
Try using TSMUXER directly on that M2TS. If it works, compare the .meta file in the working folder to the one you see onscreen in TSMUXER. That's about all I can recommend. There's always a chance that BD-RB is creating a bad meta (but it is highly unlikely, since that code get's exercised every time it is run).
Has anyone else successfully backed up "Baywatch"?
Have you tried ripping with MakeMKV? It's free and I've seen reports where it works when other ripping software has failed.
