hi all, newbie returning after several years absence. Firstly, big thank you to JDobbs for continuing his work on BDRebuilder :-) Back when I last used this program I was (successfully) converting BD's with VC-1 to H264. This is still my intent today but am not getting the desired result. The discs are of Star Trek: Original Series, all of which have VC-1. Could someone point me to a tutorial on how to achieve this please? Alternatively, I'm happy to upload the log or ini. file for review.. Thus far it takes just over 24 hours to back up a full 50gb disc. No errors are reported and the inspect report checks out fine. Its just at the end of the process I still have VC-1 instead of H264....:( Probably something obvious that's smacking me in the face to tick or untick.:o I believe the discs are 1080p, not 1080i if that's of any help. Thanks in advance,
Magna JC

Based on what you describing it would seem you need at hidden option "force encode" but posting logs would really help.

Thanks for the speedy reply HWK:) I forgot to mention in my previous post I've loaded the "FORCE_ENCODE=1" text into the config file. Not sure if its important where this is added but have placed it directly under the first [options] line. Will definitely upload the file for all to scrutinise shortly. I've also been keeping the WORKFILES to try and ascertain where I'm going wrong. All these temp files appear to be the correct size with MediaInfo showing they are now encoded as H264. But the final remixed version is still VC-1.

Hi,
I have a problem with some BD.
I uncheck some languages, BD rebuilder remove this on m2ts but when I play, The subtitles are shifted.
Are there has an option to replace to white track ?
Thanks
I relance my question.
Ex: BIG HERO 6 and JUPITER ASCENDING have this probleme
I remove all other language exept English and French.
When I play the movie, the default French become English.
I would like to inject false audio and subtitles between this tracks.
How exactly are you playing it. Also do you mean to say when I play, language and subs change. Example if you select French, English play instead and vice versa.
I also own both of these movies, if you can post setting I can try to find out what is happening.

I am assuming you using media info to find out which codec is used in final one. Anyways do post settings and movie name.

hmm, thanks waiting it to be approved. Can you provide name of movie and bd-rebuilder.ini file contents unless it is included in current file.

Log1 contains the whole report of the encode, start to finish. Log 2 contains the details of the ini file. Does it matter where you type "FORCE_ENCODE=1" into this file? The disc is disc1 from season 1 of Star Trek Original series. So it will contain several episodes & not a main movie. hope this info helps HWK

@Magna JC
How are you checking the output to see if it is VC-1? According to the log every segment has been reencoded and couldn't possibly still be VC-1. Are you sure you're checking the correct files (in the WORKING folder)?

Use Tsmuxer to create a blu-ray structure from the main movie playlist of the original decrypted ISO.
See if it throws up any errors or warnings.
Taken 3 has 4 playlists, how do you choose the correct Main Movie? BD-RB Main Movie Only chose 800. You chose 801? AnyDVD HD Speedmenu selects 850 and 801.
Do I need to use Tsmuxer before using BD-RB every time?
BTW, I never use Speedmenu but I did trying to troubleshoot the skipping video and audio sync problems with this movie.

hello Jdobbs, thanks for taking an interest in my situation (bows in reverence before the program's Creator). I guess this is where I'm probably going to shoot myself in the foot for making a dumbass-newbie mistake....:o My understanding of how BDRebuilder completes an encode is as follows;
The program creates and temporarily uses the files stored in the WORKFILES folder. This is why the user is offered the option in settings to delete this folder at the conclusion of an encode.
The finished product is in a newly created folder containing the same files with same names etc. but is now encoded as per user specifications. Am I right so far?
So can I/user expect that a recode from VC-1 to H264 would convert ALL m2ts files containing the VC-1 codec?
If the answer is yes, I'm even more baffled by what I have on my hands:(
I've gone into the main STREAM folder in the new recode folder which contains all m2ts files. I've sorted them into largest filesize to smallest ascending. The largest file in this folder is still in VC-1 code. The second largest file has been converted successfully to H264.
I'm happy to send/upload screen dumps to back these statements..
regards to all,
MJC

(bows once more to Jdobbs)No. By default it wouldn't reencode all VC-1 files (assuming a full backup). If the file(s) is under 100MB, it keeps it intact (to save time) -- assuming that it isn't a segment of a larger playlist. By default it also wouldn't reencode menu files.
I have to believe you're looking in the wrong folder -- either that or you're looking at files that didn't require encoding. Your log showed a reencode -- and BD-RB has no mechanism for reencoding to VC-1. Based on your INI file, the output should be in a folder called G:\NEW FOLDER\STAR_TREK_S1D1. According to your log -- there should be at least 88 M2TS files in that folder that are AVC. Just grabbing one at random -- look at G:\NEW FOLDER\STAR_TREK_S1D1\BDMV\STREAM\00164.M2TS. That file is a segment from one of the episodes. It should contain AVC video.
In fact, you can go through the different filenames in your log and look at each of those encodes -- for example:
- [21:08:40] Reencoding: VID_00157, Pass 1 of 2
- [21:10:28] Reencoding: VID_00157, Pass 2 of 2
This would indicate that the video portion of 00157.M2TS was reencoded to AVC. It is pretty small -- only 1,377 frames. But it was reencoded because it a segment that was a part of a larger playlist (probably one of the episodes). The streams are broken up that way because the HD Star Trek episodes can be played more than one way (with or without the updated computer graphics) -- and the playback sequence is determined by the playlist that links them together.
It's very possible that there may be other M2TS files (that aren't a part of a greater playback scheme) that were left VC-1 because they are small. If for some reason, you want those other M2TS files reencoded as well -- you can use MIN_M2TS_SIZE (see HIDDENOPTS.TXT) to change the threshold from 100MB to some lower value.

Meanwhile I'm having to deal with a clueless noob who keeps making "I'm so smart" comments via e-mail because he's too dense to understand that a two-and-a-half year old version of X264 isn't the latest release. There's nothing more annoying than people who are too stupid to know how stupid they are (I'm talking about the e-mail jerk -- not techno1).
Advice to anyone: NEVER create free software. Your time and effort is never appreciated and you only become a target for the "I'm entitled" crowd.
Woahh... :) I understand your frustration, most definitively, but please don't lump all of us into the Internet fray smacking. :) It can be challenging to remember, but we all stumble before we walk and run. Sometimes a slug in the kisser is needed before someone says, "OH!! Okay, got it!" Maybe you should inform him to create his own program and release it to the masses and notice HE gets flack sometimes (probably have)?? Heh! Keep your stress low, JD, you cannot PLEASE everyone and not everyone can please you. Sometimes a helpful reminder is -- helpful. :)

Cosmetic bug?
If I have the mouse click the outside parts of "Browse" sometimes I'm able to notice the graphic change but not anything happens. If I click again but more inward, the requester (dialog) shows per normal. This goes since way, way back. Most people dismiss such affects as "whatever", and so did I. If I reinstall Windows 7 (64 bit) or use VMWare Workstation or Fusion (W7 64-bit), same thing. Once in a while, clicking in the middle the same thing happens...nada other than the graphics changes. Anyone else notice this? It's usually not a "thing" after the 1st attempt, or next run of the program. I haven't checked this with 32 bit at all...and I shall, soon. Otherwise, 2 thumbs up...carry on. :)

thanks for your advice & suggestions Jdobbs. I think I understand things better now... The folder you're referring to was the same folder I was checking too. I'll give your MIN_M2TS_SIZE suggestion a try to see if I can get the result i'm after.
To give everyone the big picture; I'm trying to create m2ts container files of each episode of Star Trek Original Series. I've already acheived this with all 7 seasons of Star Trek: Next Generation. The result is a 6.5gb file (per ep) containing h264 video stream + AC3 x 640 audio stream.
I was fortunate that Next Gen had H264 as its native codec so all that was required was to down-convert DTS audio to AC3. Not so with Original Series as everything is VC-1 natively.
And each episode is made up of many, many little m2ts files as "His Greatness" JDobbs has already pointed out.

MJC

Forgot to update this thread for a few days. New hard drive and fresh install of everything and sofar Chappie movie only backed up just fine. Didn't play the whole movie only scanned through and played parts of it from beginning to end and didn't see any problems.

Today, for the second time, I've gotten a wrong frame at the end of an encoded video (third if you count that I have reproduced it on the same movie).
The frame count is the same in the source and encode, but the final frame which in this case should be black, is a frame from a few seconds before the end instead.
The BD is "There's No Business Like Show Business" and it's the main movie. Previously it was one of the several dozen bonus features on Airplane!.
I've reinstalled BD RB, AVISynth, DGDecNV and updated my video card driver just to be safe.
Viewing the source in AVISynth script in the WORKFILES folder, the final frame is correct, but that isn't how it encoded.
I can post scripts and all sorts of goodies, but I'm not sure any of that will tell you anything. I'm going to try a previous version of BDRB and see if that solves it.
This is a head scratcher. Let me know if you want any more details.
Edit: Tested versions of BD RB back to v0.49.07 and this still occurs on every encoding. Couple of other ideas to try tomorrow, but maybe there is something odd about this film.

Well, I just wanna say that I am quite aware that I am Stupid, and what's more, I am damn proud of it. And, if anyone wants to dispute that, I will be most happy to give AMIGA FUTURE a Slug in the Kisser!
Uhhmmm... Okay.. Lathe, you missed the point. You make attempts to learn. You've shown that in the threads. His Email Bud, is different. My post wasn't aimed at >you<, unless you're his "Bud" in question. Moving on..As a side giggle, it's "AmigaFuture" not "AMIGA FUTURE <notice the space and all caps differences?>
Anyway..back to Bugs (Bunny), as he asks, "Ehhh, What's up, Doc?" with respect to the topic.
@ JDobbs
Since you didn't reply, you've not encountered it. Others also, it seems. Hmm.. I guess I'll make a video of the oddity. Don't expect it any time soon. Laughing!

When attempting to do a "Movie & Menus" backup of X-Men: Days of Future Past The Rogue Cut (EUR) I get this error
BD-Rebuilder Experienced an error 1501
DoEncoding() 00009 1501
When doing a full or movie only backup I don't get this error.

You need to provide the FULL encode log, not just 2 tiny lines of text.

A follow up to "There's No Business Like Show Business" bad last frame. Disabled DGDecNV and switched to DirectShow/LAVFilters and the issue is gone, the encoding is fine.
There didn't seem to be an impact on speed, probably because of LAV's hardware decoding, so I see no reason to risk using anything else.
This is my first using LAV for BD RB though (I was previously using ffdshow). Should any specific options be enabled/disabled?
There are some questionable default settings: Auto Deinterlacing, Use Stream Aspect Ratio, RGB Output Levels: PC, Random Dithering, HEVC Hardware decoding disabled, etc., or does BD-RB bypass these settings?
First page doesn't mention anything besides installing LAV last.
I have been using lav and using default values. I would leave it there. Jdobbs would have mentioned if change needed in setting.

I disabled 'Deinterlacing Mode' since I wouldn't want that to engage in an encoding or during video playback by default.
I also set Hardware Decoder to DXVA2 (copy-back) and enabled HEVC and UHD acceleration.
I have no idea if that's right or wrong, but it seemed like a good idea.
I don't know if those settings actually effect what is being passed to the x264 encoder or not. To my understanding it doesn't actually go to a video renderer(?), but using copy-back may nullify that. I'll admit, I'm pretty weak on this stuff.

Hmm. I hate to create self-inflicted problems, but when I installed I let it reset all the settings. By default the Hardware Decoder is disabled.
Running a test encode and double clicking the tray icon, it doesn't look like BD RB bypasses the settings you choose... which would mean interlaced video is deinterlaced and the CPU does all the work.
I'm at a loss of what to do.
Lav filters used to decode frames, deinterlace is done by avisynth plugin

Lav filters used to decode frames, deinterlace is done by avisynth plugin
Sent from my SM-G900W8 using Tapatalk
That's what we want to happen, but if you want interlaced video kept interlaced, the avisynth script will pass the interlaced content to LAV which may automatically deinterlace at that stage.
I'm going to have to find some interlaced blu-ray material and run it through both ways to see what happens.
EDIT: Tested an interlaced M2TS file using avisynth, directshowsource and LAV Filter. LAV has 4 settings: Auto, Aggressive, Force and Disabled. Only Force mode will generate progressive output all others output interlaced.
Playing the same file directly in MPC-HC with LAV filter, Auto will deinterlace the video.
Interesting, so I read through AviSynth's Wiki for DirectShowSource and found this quote:
There are some caveats:
(snip)
5. Also this version attempts to disable any decoder based deinterlacing.
So that options isn;t an issue unless you set it to force deinterlacing.
I also tested the Hardware Decoder and when turned on the CPU utilization goes down and the GPU and Graphics memory usage goes up. So I don't know if it's safe, but it should be faster.

Note that Pass 1 and Pass 2 have the same time code. Pass 1 just doesn't happen. I can play the AviSynth script generated by BDRB just fine. The video generated on the second pass is really the movie, not blank or an error.
So why is the first pass silently failing and shouldn't the second pass fail also without a first pass generating something?

I'm scratching my head over that one. Any chance the time got changed midstream, or there was some other system time related incident?

I twiddled a load of options, what finally caused Pass 1 to work and generate stats files is to go to a slower encoding speed than High-Speed Option (BD-25+).
Tried High-Speed on a different BD and found the same thing. BD-25 seems to nerf the first pass (at least in some cases).
Changed back to DGDevNV and even tested x264's internal LAVF, no difference. If High Speed has ever done this before, I just never noticed. I only use it on occasionally to check if I'll hit the target, then then do a second slower encoding.
Edit: To clarify, the first pass seems to fail for non-AVC video. I'll do more testing, but I've had it happen for VC-1 and Mpeg2.

OK, so I’ve going about things differently and finally getting the result I’m after. I was trying to convert an entire disc from VC-1 to H264. Instead I’m converting each episode as a movie only output mkv. Then I remux this file into a m2ts. I’ve had only 1 problem/error code so far; #1501. I decided to try using Clown BD for the problem episode and noticed re-occurring messages “detecting clipping”. All the other episodes on the same disc are converting fine with BDRebuilder so I’m guessing there’s a problem with the disc itself.
Big thank you to the advice provided in this forum,
regards.

Again with The Music Man a VC-1 movie.
I re-encoded using DirectShowSource & LAV Filter (with HW decoder). After encoding I used DGDecNV to index both the source and the encode and wrote a script to compare the two.
The image quality was perfect. I couldn't even find any grain/noise that moved between the frames. So the HW Decoder seems to work beautifully.
What I DID find that freaks me out is DGDecNV is not perfect. For the first half of the movie the source was 1 frame behind the encoding (it seems to have dropped the first frame). By the end it was a few frames behind.
I located the instance when it goes to 2 frames out of sync and found the source was missing a frame that the encoding had.
I'm thinking the reason I was getting stray frames at the end of some encodings is DGDecNV _under some conditions_ can drop frames. When it comes up short at the end it could be replacing those frames from a different location in the stream to make up the correct total. Honestly, I just don't know.
I'll stick with DSS/LAV for now. Seems to be the best way to go.
Edit: Did a test encode of Easy A tonight. High Speed BD25+, same thing with the first pass, it just seems to skip it (no stats files created) and go right to the second pass. Movie is AVC, all bonus are Mpeg-2 (SD and HD).
