you will need avisynth 2.5.8 though for spline64 resize....but 2.5.8 is final so everyone should be using it anyway

I'll work on a simple guide, some time today\tomorrow if I can't be bothered :p
I've done a guide, it's a bit rough round the edges but should get you going. Posted in main forum.

...Also I know you don't like requests but 720x480 resize for extras onlywould be very handy ;) (as a serperate option - keeping main m2ts at 1920x1080)
I vote for this.
thanks

Just a note: I've managed to repeat the X264 "crash" that was reported while I was encoding a backup of "The Matrix". I can repeat it consistently, so I'm freezing any further encodes or changes until I can nail down exactly what is going on...

Does anyone have a copy of X264 releases r1103, r1104, and r1105 they could send me, or point to a download? I've looked around but can't seem to put my hands on them.

I've looked around but can't seem to put my hands on them. You should install Cygwin yourself; you'll find it quite useful to have a working development environment anyways, given that you're developing an application that uses x264 ;)
You could also drop by #x264 and ask J_Darnley; he can compile debug builds of any revision you want.

Were any of these versions used in one of your previous releases?

Apparently they skipped from r1102 to r1106. Afterdawn is usualy very good at archiving older versions and although they have 196 versions archived, there isn't a revision 1103, 1104 or 1105. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_encoders/x264.cfm

Were any of these versions used in one of your previous releases? No. Actually I stayed on r1082 for a long time just to stay consistent for debugging.

Well I'm glad you were able to get the crash as well, since I wasn't able to get the debugging done...
I can get repeated crashes on Pride & Glory, but just couldn't get the info Dark Shikari required...:(
Perhaps now you can give him the backtrace info he is looking for?

- Corrected an error in which simple stereo AC3 can
under certain conditions default to 448Kbs or
640Kbs (massive overkill). The rate will now be
correctly set 192Kbs.
Did you know that if you use 224kbps audio instead of 192kbps you can even save 1kbps for video. Weird huh?

http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/9426/new2pi7.th.png (http://img8.imageshack.us/my.php?image=new2pi7.png) I like to think I'm pretty good at math. So how you only recover 1Kbs for the video from 32Kbs of savings on two sources of the same length sounds a little like "creative math" to me. What is it, muxing differences? I use 192Kbs because it is the default standard for AC3 stereo encoding at 48Khz -- and also, of course, because no one listening can tell the difference between the two except when they are told which is which. I notice your screen capture shows you are setting 224Kbs for a six channel source (not stereo)... now that certainly is a recipe for audio distortion. I think 448Kbs is pretty much as low as you want to go for DD 5.1.

what numbers do you see next to 'Aften'? BESIDES this is just an example!
I will show you proof (x264 logs , file sizes reported by windows and so on) tomorow that i'm right. I'm encoding now 2 versions (192kbps and 224kbps) of bewulf @4480MB

Jdobbs, I hope my question belongs here, as it would be devastating for you to grow annoyed with issues and abandon your work. I tried what GaPony said: I checked the box for stricter AVCHD compliance. I tried to make a BD-5 of Space Buddies and it still stutters. Should I remove all but the stream folder under BDMV and try again?
jdobbs
16th February 2009, 01:08
Stutters on what kind of playback device? Your PS3? Are you using the latest release of BD-RB? I'm sorry if I missed something -- there are a lot of irons in the fire on this project.

jdobbs, could the problem with no audio\subs for the main feature on "The Matrix" and some other discs be related to these discs having a "Picture In Picture" track. When I run the m2ts through eac3to I notice there is a 480p VC1 track inside the m2ts that contains the main movie, but once encoded with BD-Rebuilder this track isn't there anymore. Maybe BD-Rebuilder isn't remapping the enabled streams correctly etc and not taking this PIP track into account.
Just a thought?
jdobbs
16th February 2009, 01:51
Currently BD-RB only retains one video track. Truthfully I hadn't even looked at the function of the other video. I'll have to take a closer look at it.

Is there something wrong with the BD-9? Or do they just not play well in the ps3? Each time I've tried making a dvd9 it skips and stutters in the ps3. On a side note, I have also seen the x264 error in vista, so its not rare at all.

The BD-9 I just made of Space Buddies (movie-only using BD-RB v0.18.09) plays perfect on my daughter's PS3... I don't have 'stricter AVCHD compliance' checked.... and didn't remove any folders neither.
Are you doing full disc? and what type of blank media are you burning to?

You are just using the the Movie Only option, aren't you? You could also uncheck the "Stricter AVCHD..." and it will playback on the PS3 and be seen as an AVCHD disc... but it may not playback on alot of standalone DVD players.
You could even delete everything except the .m2ts file and it will still playback on the PS3, except you won't have chapter breaks (or any other setting options). It probably won't playback on anything else though.
I've only done a couple movies to BD5, as I prefer the BD9 playback quality (a subjective opinion), but I'll run a movie through the most current version to be sure nothing has changed.
One thing for you to check is to see what PS3 system version are you using. The current version is 2.60.

Tried BD-RB for the first time.
I ripped the original BD disc of 007 - Live and Let Die to the hard drive with AnyDVD HD, and used BD-RB on the ripped files to reduce the size to fit on a 25 GB BD-Re-writable. BD-RB ended successfully with no errors.
I burned the resulting BDMV and Certificate folders to the 25 GB BD-RE with IMGBurn. The resulting disc plays fine on the PC using PowerDVD 8 Ultra, but when I play it in my set top Panasonic BD-30 connected to an HDTV I get audio only. The TV screen is blank. Think it was a bad burn, I re-burned it to the DB-RE again, but the result was the same - OK on the PC, no video on the set top box.
Since the BD-RE disc plays OK on the PC it would seem to me that BD-RB did it's job correctly. But something is wrong somewhere along the line in the process.
Incidentally, I inadvertently skipped the first step in the process that's described at the top of this thread:
1. Download and install the latest FFDSHOW and the Matroska Splitter. They are required for BD-RB to work, are free, and can be found at this link. After the install, run "Video Decoder Configuration" for FFDSHOW from the "START/Programs" menu, and make sure MPEG2 decoding is enabled.
I had downloaded the 2 pieces of software the other day but forgot to install them before running BD-RE and didn't realize it until after I had finished the burn. Could this be the cause of the problem whereby by the disc plays OK on the PC but has no video when played in the set top box?

Full disc backup or movie only in BD-Rebuilder? BD30 supports movie only.
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=144674
Although that thread is specifically for BD5\BD9, it's likely that BD25 (BD-R) discs also will only play with main movie. If you did a full disc, could you do movie only and post back your results.

No I did movie only. I tried another ps3 and got the same issue. I use all verbatim +r bitset to -rom, both SL and Singapore DL.

I'm updating ps3 fw from 2.53 now. I didn't want to waste a DL on space buddies, theres my subjective opinion for the day haha. I also noticed I was using BD-RB 18.7.I just got the v19 and I'll post back results.
Also I want to point out I've had issues with set top boxes as well. It would play all the previews then no video in the movie. I see the suggestion to try 'movie-only' instead. Thanks guys for all your input.

You might want to start a thread for recommendations on making a copy that will be playable on a PS3 and your standalone player. Playing on one doesn't mean it will play on both. I think Jdobbs got the PS3 playback issue fixed in 18.8, so you were short by one revision. Anyway if you get stuck, just start a new thread and I'll be glad to share my PS3 horror :) stories with you.

Recently finished a full movie backup of Indiana Jones 4, NTSC, with BD-RB 0.19.0.1 to BD-5 for testing purposes only. Backup completes successfully, no .x264 errors. Playback is on my Sony BDP-BX1. The main menu will only play back for about 6-7 seconds before pausing for about the same amount of time, then the counter will jump ahead about 6-8 seconds, and the menu will start playing again. This pattern continues/repeats itself. The movie plays back perfectly though, with decent quality considering the high compression to BD-5. When played back on my computer with PowerDVD, the menu plays back perfectly. I'm guessing this is just a compatibility issue on playback with the Sony player, but I thought I should report this anyway.

Just as a point of reference, has anyone found any systems that won't playback when "Strict AVCHD" is checked? My system treats the disc the same with or without it. I'm thinking about making it the default.
Yea my Philips BD7200/F7 desn't play "Strict AVCHD"!:thanks:

Just finished a DVD9 movie only back up of Tropic Thunder, using the previous version of BD Rebulder.
The finished files were 23GB not 7.8GB. this was probably a mistake on my part, but i check the settings i use a couple of times before i start as a mistake costs me about 18 hours of computer time. im 99% sure i had the DVD9 option checked. has anyone else had this problem?
Im now trying again using the latest version.

192kbps.bluray is 4477.86 MB
224kbps.bluray is 4477.84 MB
Do you still think that you save space by using 192kbps audio instead of 224kbps?

Still no audio\subs on main feature with latest 0.19.01
Same behaviour as in previous versions

Using the latest version.
Does anyone know what is happening here.
I had ffdshow set up for my tv card with deinterlacing and rgb32 output.
It's working fine now so far.

You're encoder fu**ed up. A 224kbps encode cannot be smaller than a 192kbps encode.
Show your screen shots of the demuxed audio files.
edit: Here's the difference on a 4-5min file.

And the crashing bug in x264 has been found!
Bug was introduced in r1105 (Akupenguin's fault, even though my name's on the commit :p). Apparently, at least on the computer of our generous volunteer, r1108 was the trigger for the crash, despite it being completely unrelated.
Thanks to XhmikosR for donating about an hour of his time to torture himself with gdb and massive numbers of test builds as we narrowed down an issue so obnoxious that the crash disappeared when he ran a normal, non-debug x264 in gdb.
With the information we got from testing various potential fixes, I eventually was able to catch the bug with a combination of intuition and valgrind.
r1114 will fix the crash.

DON'T argue with me! I know that i'm right!!! LOOK at the log!!! After muxing to blu-ray structure (.m2ts) video with 224kbps is always smaller than the same with 192kbps!!! Check yourself!

Massive grooviness... :) I just tested it on the file where I experienced it. The crash is gone. I'll include r1114 in the next BD-RB release.

LMFAO. The new ad. I can see it now.
The new revolution in dvd back-up has arrived.
Have you been using what you thought were excellent containers like MKV?
You've been wasting your time.
Forget about saving a few kbps with these so called optimized containers, we've got something that we GUARANTEE everyone in the industry would kill to have our patent.
Introducing .M2TS
Our revolutionary container becomes smaller the more data you put into it.
Yes, We know it sounds crazy.
But our clinical tests show that putting 224kbps audio files into OUR container, will result in less file space than an 192kbps audio file.
See for yourself. Only $29.95 while stocks last.

Funny, yes. On topic, no.
I still don't see how it could get smaller. Same size is possible I suppose -- because the m2ts has a packet size of 192, and a minimum of 8 bytes of overhead for each packet. So the packet can hold 184 bytes. You have to add the occasional PES information, and AC3 frames have 32ms in each. I would guess that if you calculated it out you'd find that 192Kbs stream might have a small amount of its frame rolled over into a final packet and it gets padded with zeros.
But as I said earlier. I didn't make it 192Kbs to save space... I did it because that is the default standard for AC3 stereo encodes... and I'm reencoding to allow for boosting and/or normalizing audio. That padding getting repeated for every 32ms of audio might bring it out to the same muxed size as 224Kbs. I wouldn't have guessed you need to pad -- and could have just started another frame in the same unit (like it does in DVD)... but I'm definitely not positive. That might explain why you see so many 2 channel streams encoded at 224Kbs in blu-ray originals -- nothing lost, so why not?
You have to look at m2ts from the positive side also. That packeting concept makes it work very well in digital transport systems like ATM.

When I do a Full Movie backup of Star Wars - Clone Wars Region B, it works fine, but when I try a movie only backup BD-RB chooses the wrong m2ts file (a 3 GB file). It doesn't matter which version of BD-RB I use.

I just love "Groundhog Day" so gave my BD a spin yesterday with 19.01, Full Backup mode, as a test. No processing issues, the result played fine, but in looking at the workfiles I noticed that BD-RB processed (and included) a whole bunch of subs for extras that I'd not intended. Puzzled since I'd thought I'd un-selected those, and meaning to recover those bytes for the main feature, I ran BD-RB again, this time making absolutely certain all were un-checked. But instead of re-allocating those bytes to the Main Feature, each of the affected Extras got the benefit of the extra bytes. Note in the log below, the main feature's bitrate (00011.m2ts) actually goes DOWN but this apparently is due to my having selected the Commentary audio track for the 2nd run. Two questions:
1. Given that I un-checked Subs in Extras, is the Extras "getting the benefit" correct, i.e. re-allocation to the Main Feature is not implemented yet? Or a bug?
2. It seems the Stream tab selections are set on BD-RB launch (based on Source Path and Settings/Setup) and not on anything in WORKFILES. Is there any way to go-back and see exactly what Selections I had made in the Stream tab for the two different runs? Or is this by "deduction only" ie. to look at the workfiles audio/video/subs?
Great work jdobbs--as an aside I was surprised to see that Chapters are right-on, not "every 5 min" as one might expect from the MUX_00011.meta file. Apparently you copy the original clpi file in Full Backup mode, and loss of custom Chapter marks only occurs on "movie only". :)

1. Given that I un-checked Subs in Extras, is the Extras "getting the benefit" correct, i.e. re-allocation to the Main Feature is not implemented yet? Or a bug? Definitely not implemented. Not sure if it will be implemented, if so it will be as a selectable option.
It is saved to the INF files --- but each time you restart BD-RB, the selections are initialized to what you've selected in the SETUP dialog. In the future I'll look into retaining the selections.
Apparently you copy the original clpi file in Full Backup mode, and loss of custom Chapter marks only occurs on "movie only". Movie-only retains the original chapters also.
