Reducing a retail BD-50, ripped with AnyDVD HD, to a DVD9, through version 0.37.04, produce a playable DVD9 on my Oppo-93. If I try to produce a full BD-25, although there are no errors reported in log, this player will consider the burned disc as an Unknown disc and refuse to play it. The burned disc plays fine with Arc Theater. I've tried several unsuccessful tweaking with relevant settings but still, do not know what could be wrongly set. Is it a known issue with Oppo ?
Any hints would help as I've tried this procedure over several retail BD-50 with same results. Thanks. Are you burning with Imgburn or some other package?

Hi guys
I'm using this great program for some time. About 80% procent of backups were successful, but I also have the same error with some movies.

@s2k
Are you reencoding an original disc? It sounds like BD Rebuilder is attempting to remux -- but the secondary video track doesn't exist. That can happen when someone preprocesses and leaves out the secondary video. It appears there should have been a line like the one below for the last (00011) stream:
- [00:xx:xx] Reencoding secondary video [TRK_02]
I successfully backed up the US versions of "2012", "Last Airbender", "The Expendables", and "Salt" -- all from the original disc and all with no issues.
I'll rerun SALT and see if anything has changed...

Are you reencoding an original disc?
No, they are not. I think this is it.
Can I do something?
Thanks, and....everybody....Happy Valentines Day!!!!!
....
I attached info for the others.

Hi!:
"jdobbs" asked:Are you reencoding an original disc?
You answered: No, they are not.
Discussion of such source material is a "no-no" at the Doom9 Forums...

just a clarification for step 8
8. Recommended for Windows XP only: Download and install WMV11 from Microsoft, and set VC-1 decoding to "disabled" in FFDSHOW (allowing the WMV11 codec to be used). This seems to be the codec with the fewest problem on VC-1. For Vista or Windows 7 -- select "wmv9"
are we talking about the FFDShow encoder configurations -> on the "decoder" tab -> codecs -> VC-1,
or ffdshow video configurations -> codecs -> VC-1,
or both?
I have wmv9 (for win7) set on the video config codecs setting, but i am wondering if i should also set it in the encoder config -> decoder tab -> codecs -> VC-1 also.
i am just trying to get better results with interlaced VC-1 source material. not sure if this will help or if this will be a self-inflicted screw up.
as it is now, the VC-1 codec in encoder config -> decoding tab -> codecs is set to "disabled".
thanks

thanks Not sure what you mean by the boldfaced encoder configuration? I think you must be talking about the VFW configuration utility... which really doesn't matter.
You are selecting decoders through the "Video Decoders Configuration" utility's CODEC screen (although CODEC does stand for coder/decoder). The selected decoder is used during the process to decode the video and serve it a frame at a time to X264 for reencoding. On Windows 7 VC-1 should be set to "wmv9". It's unpredictable what will happen if you set it to "disabled" and depends what else you have installed that might pick up the decoding. Setting it to LIBAVCODEC will work on some sources -- but doesn't support interlacing.
WMV9 on Windows 7 works with every source I've tried and I'm using it now. There are a couple of oddities related to VC-1 field-based picture formats (rather than frame based) that cause HAALI to hiccup when the source is an M2TS -- but BD Rebuilder recognizes that and adjusts for it by converting to MKV on-the-fly during the processing.

Does LAVF take more advantage of extra memory?
The reason I ask is that I have two systems that I use for rebuilds. The first is Windows 7 Pro x64 with a Q9400 and 8GB of memory. The second is Windows 7 Home Premium x64 with a Q6600 and only 4GB of memory.
I would expect the second to be a little slower because of the processor, but could the memory size be a major factor, as well?
Again, will LAVF take advantage of extra memory?

Encode times are processor related, with memory having a minor effect. Only if you are trying to multi-task during an encode might more memory be a benefit.
( assuming you have at least 2 GB ! :p )

@jdobbs Can you please take a look?
Has anyone made backup of LET_ME_IN?
My backup failed here is my logs.

This type of error is usually a set up issue. Post the inspect log.
Uninstall haali, ffdshow and avisynth, delete the program folder for haali, and then reboot. Then download and install those three programs from page one of this thread.
Also, delete the BD-RB.ini and start fresh as is posted on page one for the initial install of BD-RB for Win 7.

Different Blu-rays use different authoring methods, VC-1, AVC, MPEG2, etc... Decoding requires the correct setup for each.
My guess is that the single most reported errors/problems for jdobbs is having BD-RB setup incorrectly, not having the proper haali and ffdshow installed. Also, other codec packs installed can cause issues as well.
Also, if this is not an original Blu-ray, ripped preferably with AnyDVD HD, it is most likely to have problems. ;)

I have updated the first post of this thread with a link to the newest release of BD Rebuilder (v0.37.05). Changes for this release:- Corrected an issue in which a scan of the
source material might miss an audio/video time
delta when PTS/DTS values were very large.
- Corrected an error that could cause error 2904
while outputting to ALTERNATE/DVD when the audio
track has an offset detected.
- Updated DVD output so it exits completely rather
than pausing at the end of play.
- Improved the methodology for prevention of sleep
mode. It is now set/reset at the beginning/end of
each full job rather than at the start/stop of
each encode. Also changed settings so the video
monitor sleep will not be blocked and it will act
as set in the POWER options during encoding.
- Added a hidden setting (DISABLE_SLEEP=0) that
can be used to prevent the sleep blocking
function from executing.
- Corrected an issue in which a "too small" target
size for MKV output could result in illegal or
nonsensical bitrates.
- Corrected an error in which a large target size
for MKV output could result in an overflow
condition: PredictAndEncode() 00006 2820.
- Reversed the decision to make LAVF the default
frame server. It appears to be slower on some
systems. It can still be selected if desired
from the SETUP dialog.
- Corrected a problem in which starting a job with
"Keep HD Audio", and then stopping/resetting and
restarting with that parameter changed (after
audio extraction) could result in a failed audio
encode. An improbable but possible scenario.
- Updated the included version of X264-64.EXE to
the latest release (r1900).
- Other minor corrections and cosmetic fixes.

thx My plan is to never make anyone have to "buy" it. I would like to keep BD Rebuilder going based on voluntary donations. The only way that would change is if the donations stopped or got too small to make it worth my time. Frankly the donations have never been very much -- but I'd have to draw the line at nothing. ;) So I recommend you donate now. All donations are logged, and donators will receive free updates for the life fo the product no matter what happens.
The expiration date will stay until I decide to pull the software out of beta status. The purpose of the expiration is to save me (and all the others who help on this thread) the trouble of having to respond to trouble reports on bugs that have already been fixed. I also don't like old versions with known bugs (that have been fixed) floating around forever.
You'll see the expiration date go away with v1.00.

When trying to do a movie only backup (25)gb, all the video has the commentary audio in the preview. I have tried all of the video sources and they are all the same.

:Note the screenshot was from last week, I just tried this again today with the latest version and the same result.
I have never seen this before, and have done almost 50 rips with the same settings.

JD, sometimes I miss a target size by a few hundred MB on a 25gBD downsizing.
I then try to reduce the output size by the approx number of MB the compression was oversized by. What gives better results quality wise, using the original rip to compress or trying to compress the one further which slightly missed the target?

Try 1 pass ABR at High Quality(Default), or forget about the speed up and use two pass encode , but set it to Better(Faster), or Good(Very Fast).
CRF is not as size accurate as two pass encode, and I have been having excellent results and pretty accurate sizes with 1 pass ABR.

JD, sometimes I miss a target size by a few hundred MB on a 25gBD downsizing.
I then try to reduce the output size by the approx number of MB the compression was oversized by. What gives better results quality wise, using the original rip to compress or trying to compress the one further which slightly missed the target?
Always use the original BD-50.
A third option: Use MultiAVCHD to remove some trailers/FBI warnings.

Thanks for alerting me to MultiAVCHD. Just spent some time checking it out. But a question, doesn't that require different versions of ffdshow and Haali splitter which are incompatible with BD RB.
I'm wondering, if all I am trying to do is blank intros or trailers, that shouldn't matter.
Is there an easy guide you can recommend detailing the installation and operation?

Thanks for the reply. I'm trying to use the BD-25 rebuild as my 'gold standard' and am therefore reluctant to use Better or Good settings. Highest was taking about 18 hours (which is excruciating) and High about 12. I have a backlog and was just trying to speed things up. I might try 1-pass ABR to see if it sizes more accurately.

The same versions BD-RB uses of haali and ffdshow will work fine for multiAVCHD.
Be aware that the use of multiAVCHD is either pre-processing or post-processing if used with BD-RB, and that is done at your own discretion. Do not report in this thread any problems that may occur.
There is a guide on the first page of that thread, the one for Re-Author. ;)

If you like CRF, just set / lower the custom output size by 500MB to 750MB, you will not notice any change in quality. :)

I only chose 1-pass CRF because of JDobbs note in changes.txt when he added the High-Speed Option [BD-25] setting.
Added a "HIGH-SPEED" option to the "SETTINGS/ENCODER
SETTINGS" menu. It is visible/recommended for BD-25
encoding only. The quality on BD-5/9 will suffer
greatly if this option is used (via hidden setting).
When used with one-pass CRF mode on BD-25 it can
result in a very fast yet excellent quality backup
of most discs.

You'll see the expiration date go away with v1.00.
you are right and i got it jdobbs,
donation done. thx again for your work! :)

BD Rebuilder n00b here and I have a couple of questions.
1. Should I set FFDSHOW-MPEG 2 to libavcodec or libmpeg2?
2. Since I'm using the BD25 output and I don't want to mess with the HD audio in any way, is it necessary to check these audio encoding options - Do not convert DTS to AC3, do not reencode AC3 & keep HD audio for BD 25 encoding or should I leave them unchecked?
Thanks!

Tried to speed up creation of bd-25 sized rebuilds by using these settings, but final result was 29.4 GB which is unusable for burning to single layer disc. Source was AnyDVD rip of Chuck Season 2, Disc 2 (37.8 GB).
Log:
...
Any suggestions? Yes, don't use CRF or set the target smaller. CRF is inherently inaccurate in sizing.

@big_moviefreak;
To confirm tsMuxeR is the culprit here, could you load the VID_00001.AVS.264, 00001.track_4352.ac3 ( or .thd ), and 00001.track_4608.sup, found in the Workfiles folder, into tsMuxeR GUI, select Blu-ray as your output and try a mux that way. Does that work?
If not, try removing the subtitle track and run it again.

I only chose 1-pass CRF because of JDobbs note in changes.txt when he added the High-Speed Option [BD-25] setting.
You're better off with two pass encoding when size accuracy is an issue.

OK, I may have been the culprit myself in that this is a bit off the wall, but I was attempting to take a BD-9 created by BD-RB and converting that with BD RB to DVD5 so it would play in my car for an upcoming trip. It is apparently not movie specific, because after the error, I tired several BD-RB BD-9s with the exact same result- extracts the first stream and reports failure. Not sure if it is really a bug, since it it works if I go back to the original BD (doing it right now) to make the DVD5. I can post more info if anyone is interested, but as I said, it may be a known limitation.

@larrsz
Hi!
I'd speculate that the problem your having is due to the fact that the differing versions of BD-RB you're using use different/incompatible versions of supporting tools (e.g. x264).
BTW - Are you certain that your auto's playback system won't play BD9s?

I gues I don't understand. Once I have made a BD-9 with BDRebuilder, why would that version matter if opening the file in another version- would it not see it as a Blu Ray Disc?
And, I am sure my vehicle only has an old fashioned DVD player.

I'll run a couple of tests and see what happens -- it should be easy enough to fix.
Was the BD-9 a full backup or a movie-only backup?

JDOBBS, first just wanted to thank you for creating such a versatile tool like BD-Rebuilder. I have been using it for over a year now and it amazes me everytime how good the output quality of the video and audio is. I would appreciate it if you could answer my 2 questions:
I only create BD-25 backups and recently with the newer release of BD-Rebuilder 0.37.04 I see that there are 2 new settings that I am not used to seeing:
1. "Use DECOMB filter on interlaced source" ---->I am familiar with de-interlacing but my question is; Do I need to enable this option if I am only doing BD-50 to BD-25 backups. I figured the movies are progressive (1080p) so I wouldnt need this optional enabled.
2. "Use X264's internal LAVF for decoding" ----->I see that in 0.37.04 this optional is turned ON by default. I just dont know what are the benefits and drawbacks of using this option. For me it was disabled in the past when doing BD-50 to BD-25 backups. Do you recommend turning this ON or OFF for BD-25 backups?
thanks in advance for you time.

thanks in advance for you time.1. It's better to just turn this one on and leave it.
2. Actually LAVF should be off by default. I'd recommend to do a test and compare the speed. The quality will be the same -- and on some systems LAVF is faster -- but contrary to what I'd originally thought, it can also be slower on some (that's why I changed it back to "off" as the default.

I reinstalled all the files from the first page of this thread as it says in the instructions. Been a few days because I didn't have a bluray to burn. Got Inglorious Bastards in from Netflix. Put Inglorious Bastards in, DID NOTHING WITH THE SETTINGS AT ALL, and hit back up "full backup" to bd 25 size disc.
Hit backup and twice this happened:
[19:41:09] BD Rebuilder v0.37.05 (beta)
- Source: ING_BASTERDS
- Input BD size: 44.52 GB
- Approximate total content: [04:15:55.430]
- Target BD size: 22.95 GB
- Windows Version: 5.1 [2600]
- Auto Quality: Good (Very Fast), ABR
- Audio Settings: AC3=1 DTS=1 HD=0 Kbs=640
[19:41:11] PHASE ONE, Encoding
- [19:41:11] Extracting A/V streams [VID_00151]
- [19:41:15] DoEncoding() 00006 1607
[19:41:57] - Failed to complete.
So I switched the setting to Movie Only backup. it says current progress 19% and then I get the error " Pes packet len too large ( >100Mb). Bad stream or invalid codec speciffed." See below:
-----------------------
[19:42:27] BD Rebuilder v0.37.05 (beta)
- Source: ING_BASTERDS
- Input BD size: 34.86 GB
- Approximate total content: [02:32:59.628]
- Target BD size: 22.95 GB
- Windows Version: 5.1 [2600]
- MOVIE-ONLY mode enabled
- Auto Quality: Good (Very Fast), ABR
- Audio Settings: AC3=1 DTS=1 HD=0 Kbs=640
[19:42:29] PHASE ONE, Encoding
- [19:42:29] Extracting A/V streams [VID_00010]
- [20:56:54] Reencoding: VID_00010 (1 of 1)
- [20:56:54] Collecting video information
- [20:56:54] Keeping original video (no reencode)
- [20:56:54] Reencoding audio tracks (if req'd)
- [20:56:56] Multiplexing M2TS
- Error in attempt to multiplex: MUX_00010.meta
- Pes packet len too large ( >100Mb). Bad stream or invalid codec speciffed.
[20:56:59] - Failed to build structure, aborted
I use windows XP, I have a LG burner and am using Verbatim 25 gb BD-R discs.
I have gotten this error now with Eat Pray Love, Avatar, Dinner for Schmucks and Machete. Always the same error. I am only installing the programs and then trying this. Not checking or unchecking any boxes. I also don't know what to pick when AnyDVD HD asks me what region (no region, region a, B or C).
There must be a reason I keep getting the same 'pes packet len too large' error.
HELP!

Got Inglorious Bastards in from Netflix.
You may not get much assistance from this source!
It is always a good idea to post your inspect log, since many people report they installed the programs from page one, but still had incorrect settings. :(
