BD Rebuilder Beta - Bug Reports Only

Hi jdobbs,

I am struggeling at The Thing German BD.
The Main Movie has PIP which is recognized as secondary stream correctly in BD-Rebuilder.
The Audiotrack for that secondary video is also recognized but it is always unselected and I cannot reselect it.
I did not check "Limit to one track for each language" in my settings.

Aren't you able to handle it because it is DTS Express?
Is there a workaround?

You need to add
DTSX_ENABLE=1

to your BDREBUILDER.ini file, but be warned this won't play back on all players

Is there an overview of switches which can be enables in BDREBUILDER.INI?

The video normally plays on them all, some players just won't play they audio for some reason. Make sure your player is properly configured to accept mixed audio streams or something like it. All the switches can be found in the bdrb folder in a file called hiddenopts.txt

The “FORCE_NOENCODE=1” hidden option is ignored when in MOVIE-ONLY mode, but is used when in FULL-BACKUP mode.

I have searched but can’t find if there is a valid reason for this, so I assume it is a bug / regression issue.

I know...somewhat "time consuming"....especially that "time" is a concept and changes depending where you are and how you feel "outside" of Now. ;-) If you want to join the parts without rerendering I suggest practice with MKVmerge (GUI) which is a great program to donate to just as BD-RB. :)

Thanks for your response, I know about MKVMerge but:

I just backed up the disk and realised that the 5.1 audio was set to default (I want the stereo track as default). You can only set default tracks in MOVIE-ONLY mode which I forgot to do, so I want BD-Rebuilder to rearrange the Audio Tracks without having to re-encode the movie again (I have a old machine, it takes about 6-8 hours for Highest Quality backup).

BD_RB is an "all-in-one" application and everything that I have read so far leads me to believe that it should do what I want (unless, as i said, there is a valid reason why its not allowing this to happen).There should not be any reason to start messing with other tools :)

P.S. I just remuxed with tsmuxer to put the stereo track first, as a workaround; but I thought I should report a potential bug...

I think you misunderstood. They were suggesting that your source material was "Preprocessed". Meaning it has already been processed/encoded by another program. That doesn't necessarily suggest they were accusing you of pirating material. If I were to attempt a backup of a backup, and encounter an error, it has already been said that such posts are unacceptable. Preprocessed sources are not supported in this "Bug Reports Only" thread.

Obviously most of our rips are preprocessed/decrypted. Should a bug be incurred due to Anydvd HD, I'm sure the boys over at slysoft would be hot on it's heels ;) I seem to recall one or more of the developers in this very thread.

I did not know that and thanks for the heads up. However, I should have been more specific about the nature of the problem. So here goes:

I did a DVD (movie only) backup with DB-RB keeping both the 5.1 and Stereo Audio Tracks. After the encode was done I realised that the 5.1 audio was set as the default; but I wanted the Stereo track as the default. I have an old machine (it takes about 6-8 hours for Highest Quality backup) and did not want to re-encode the whole movie again just to set the Stereo Track as default. So I tried to do “another backup” of the re-encoded source with the FORCE-NOENCODE option set and also setting the Stereo Track as the default; this was done just so that BD-RB would re-arrange the audio only without re-encoding the video again. It was during this process that I came across the “bug” where BD-RB ignored the “FORCE-NOENCODE=1” hidden option when in MOVIE-ONLY mode.

Given what I was trying to do, I don’t really think that this counts as backup of a backup even though it is a "Preprocessed" source; but I defer to the greater knowledge and apologise for not explaining all the details up front.

I’m not sure what you are trying to say here given that the “bug report” was about BD-RB skipping over the FORCE-NOENCODE hidden option.

Notice the bold part? That would qualify as preprocessed. You ran the disc through BDRB, then you ran the output through BDRB again

From the same BR ISO, i made a movie only BR ISO. Once with BD25 target, another with a custom target of 50Gb.

The BD25 target iso is ~23Gb, with reencoding,
The Custom 50Gb target gives me a 18Gb ISO without reencoding (the same as with FORCE_NOENCODE=1)

Source of your file= what did you use to preprocess the file. Res and size don't appear to be standard BD.

I reread your reply. Try using the original. While your dvd backup my play fine a backup of a backup along with the changing formats and resolutions may induce glitches that slip through and don't allow you to get the desired results.

From your settings, and I may be wrong, but it looks like you did a BD>DVD backup. The you tried to do DVD>BD-AVCHD backup. Please note that your dvd backup is MPEG2. Your re-backup does not mention alternate mode. It appears to be trying to do a DVD>AVCHD backup, otherwise stated as MPEG2>MPEG4. Encoding is necessary. Full disk AVCHD is not spec and that may be why it is not re-encoding. Try IMPORT>ALTERNATE MODE>DVD5. See, tell what preprocessed the disc and I (we) can try to help.
Also is there DTS sound on your disc.

That's the default when outputting to a DVD+-R (for greater compatibility). MPEG-2 isn't legal for AVCHD, it only accepts AVC, so it has to be converted. MPEG-2 is, however, legal for standard Blu-Ray (which is what you have to use for a full backup).

I appreciate any help I am given (so thank you for trying to help) and I apologise if I did misinterpret your first post. However I am really stumped as to how you are getting to your assumptions.

There was no BD disk involved at all. The original source was always a DVD Disk. I can’t imagine why anyone would do BD --> DVD --> BD. I am trying to do DVD --> BD to fit DL DVD onto BD-5. For me x264 is a better way to backup DVD disks than using available MPEG-2 encoders.

But let’s forget all previous posts, as I’ve used 2 brand new sources…

Thanks for replying but I don’t think that is what is causing this problem. I have also tried by Un-Checking the “Strict AVCHD for BD-5/9 Movie-Only” with the same result (or am I missing something else on letting BD-RB create a Blu-Ray structure in Movie-Only mode?).

However I think I may have found what is causing this issue:

It seems that BD-RB is forcing conversion if it detects that the target size is either BD-5 or BD-9 in “Movie-Only” mode. If Target Size is BD-25 the re-encode is skipped.

From HIDDENOPTS.TXT:
FORCE_NOENCODE=n n = 0/1 - if set to 1, BD-RB will always use original video (sizing will not be checked)

Because I thought “sizing will not be checked” I did not think Target Size would have any influence. This is confirmed as BD-RB always skips the re-encode if “Full-Backup” mode is selected irrespective of Target Size.

I’ve recreated this issue using two new sources: A Blu-Ray disk and a different DVD disk.

There is definitely inconsistent behaviour when using Movie-Only mode and the FORCE_NOENCODE option is set.

Blitz test shows input is MPEG 2. AVCHD (BD 5/9) must be MPEG 4, therefore it must re-encode.
As far as full movie testing please reread jdobbs post about the specs.

You seem to be missing the point.

From HIDDENOPTS.TXT:
FORCE_NOENCODE=n n = 0/1 - if set to 1, BD-RB will always use original video (sizing will not be checked)

So how do you explain when in Full-Backup mode it skips the re-encode irrespective of Target Size.

1 - from one of your tests you are telling BD_RB to fit 12 GB of data onto a 4.3GB disc. How can this be accomplished without re-encoding.
2 - why don't you use the original source and avoid issues in video quality from processing a preprocessed source.

Jdobbs, i think i found a small bug between movie only backup & IMGBurn.

I just produced a movie only DVD9 backup of Abraham lincoln vampire hunter. The backup went through without a hitch. However upon finishing the backup the folder ABRAHAM_LINCOLN_3D_DVD was not turned into a DVD iso file in my C:\ Temp directory even though i have BDRB configured to create iso's.

I get it. But don't forget that this is an "issue" I have come across when using FORCE_NOENCODE option. Please try to forget anything I have said about what I'm trying to do, but look at this as possible inconsistencies when using that option.

I know that Movie-Only Mode outputs AVCHD by default. But, from what info I've been able to read I have been lead to believe that it is not the only option for Movie-Only mode.
For example:
The changelog for v0.30.01 says:

- AVCHD output restrictions have been removed for all
BD-25 output. BD-25 movie-only now uses the TSMUXER
"--blu-ray" option.


This was proved by the logs I posted earlier where the video was not re-encoded with the FORCE_NOENCODE option set on BD-25 targets.
and:

- Strict AVCHD compliance is now the default for BD-5
or BD-9 movie-only encodes. The "FORCE_BLURAY" hidden
option has been removed. The equivalent of that
setting can be created by deselecting "Strict AVCHD
BD-5/9 Movie-Only".


This leads me to believe that Movie-Only Mode can create Blu-ray output.

There are implied alternative output formats and combined with the above change-log I came to the conclusion that Blu-Ray output is possible with Movie-Only mode. But my conclusion may be wrong - which is exactly what I'm trying to determine.

So if I can output to Blu-Ray format with Movie-Only mode and I have the FORCE_NOENCODE option set, why then is the video being re-encoded for BD-5 / BD-9 Targets (because Blu-Ray accepts both MPEG-4 and MPEG-2).

But that is what the FORCE_NOENCODE option allows - it does not check size and uses the original video as is.

The test which I did here serves no purpose other than to try show up inconsistencies when using the FORCE_NOENCODE option.

I don't get where this is coming from. The details of post #16274 are from original BD and DVD sources. (My first post contained details from preprocessed source - but the mistake was pointed out - and everything else is has been original sources).

As far as the switches, there are no absolutes as this could cause conflicts within the program. Case in point -- 12 GB onto a 4.3 GB destination, no re-encode and we could possibly throw in a codec which is not allowed.
Remember that the author could allow anything he wants but odds are that playback would consistently fail in standalone players, to be followed by the complaints.
Somewhere along the way it was stated that BD_RD was to produce strictly BD compliant output. Everything else that it now does on top of that is a bonus, for which I am grateful.

Once again. If you are outputting to DVD+-R the default format is going to be AVCHD. That's because AVCHD is supported on virtually every player on the planet. BD-9, however, is supported only on a select few. So it would be incredibly silly to output to a format in movie-only mode that will likely result in thousands of complaints about how it doesn't work on a lot of players. This is especially true since there is absolutely no reason to do so when the output is movie-only. So all DVD+-R output is AVCHD as a default. The exception (and thus the word "default") is when you do a full-backup -- and that is because it is required for a full-backup.

The strict AVCHD setting has an entirely different purpose than choosing AVCHD format -- and that is documented in this thread.

In other words, this isn't an issue. It works completely as it should, and no matter how many times you post unusually long posts to make a point -- it is going to stay that way. I'm not going to respond to hundreds of bug reports and get bad reviews just so you can save reencoding time on an extremely rare MPEG-2 source.

If I had looked closer at your log I could have said "definitely" instead of "probably" -- but you've derived way too much assumption out of that single word. I've removed it from my response.

I will check to see if there is an issue with FORCE_NOENCODE when used for BD-25 output. But based on your post #16274 I believe it is.

- Updated video file imports so that SRT streams
contained in MKV files will be included in the

- Corrected an error in which forced subtitles
were not being carried over into ALTERNATE
movie-only DVD output.
- Created a hidden option OUTPUT_FOLDER that can
be used to redirect the final output build to a
location other than the working folder. See the
file HIDDENOPTS.TXT for usage details.
- Updated BD-RB and INSPECT to accept an newer
version of FFDSHOW (r4422) as "correct".

I used to use Ripbot264 for certain abilities. Which requires a newer version of FFDshow. But since Bd Rebuilder has allowed output to Dvd, as well as a wonderful import function, I haven't seen the need. The newer version worked just fine with Bd Rebuilder. If I had had any issues, I obviously would have rolled back to the trusted version on page 1. BEFORE posting a bug report ;)

So I decided that I'd take a different approach with BD Rebuilder. I won't ignore feature requests, but if I think they're not necessarily something that would benefit everyone or aren't major improvements -- they will be implemented in a less instrusive way, as a hidden option.

I see that there is a 6 1/2 hours difference between the beginning of extraction and the error.
Try re-ripping the movie.
Are you working directly from the BD disc?

*just replace X264.EXE X264-64.EXE file (r2230) files for the previous beta version v0.42.04 (Version r2216)and now it works. So the problem comes with the new version (r2230) of x264.exe I can't imagine what could have been introduced in this release of X264 that might have caused it. You might want to right-click and look at the properties and make sure it isn't blocked.

I've been encoding successfully with r2230 since it was released in mid-November.
