Well, I'm still a bit financially restricted, but anxiously awaiting the next build with that hidden option for the SEI data. If it works, I'll definitely do another of a (for me at least) sizeable amount.

Ripped Pacific Rim 2D Blu-ray and 3D Blu-ray to my hard drive as usual. When starting the process of Alt Movie Only MKV, I get a pop up (see the attached) saying the audio type doesn't match the audio detected.
When looking at the disc in the Stream tab before hitting backup, it reports TrueHD.
I DO have Keep HD Audio selected. Even if I unselect it, I still get the error.

Now... to decide what discs I want to buy for testing...Here's one more donation... ;^). How 'bout LOTR Return of the King Extended Edition Disc 2. BDRB won't process this one claiming it's not a valid blu-ray format. I just tried it again and am now getting the Master toolkit errors 2503 and 2603 as well... And Star Trek TOS Season 1/Disc 3. Just posted a problem I'm having with this one/series in post #27415.
Thank you jdobbs for your great work!

I wish jdobbs implemented that feature. Importing HDR content would be very useful as well. x265 should be fed with the correct HDR data that is read out correctly from the source otherwise the output may be unusable.

Are there any news about UHD support?? Are you still working on implementing it??Sure... if I can ever get it to work. Most of the problems seem to be associated with TSMUXER and the way it handle UHD/HDR. I'm not sure it is ever going to work properly as I've been trying different things for some time now. If you fix X you run into problem Y. If you find a way to get around Y, you run into problem Z. Try to fix Z... and you see X again. Repeat.

Hi spotswood,
no problems here with any LOTR Bluray (incl. ROTK Extended Edition discs). What does BDInfo say about this disk? I recommend to re-rip it.
I have also seen Master Toolkit Errors now and then, but cleaning the working path and restart DBRB from scratch always fixed them. Be sure not to have a subtitle file open in a program such as BDSup2Sup(++) when BDRB scans them.

I think I found a bug in the forced-sub-extraction-routine.
I'm doing alternate output into mp4 container.
First my understanding how it is designed:
During extraction step all sub tracks are demuxed. If FORCED_SUB_LANG (DEU;GER in my case) is set this or these sub streams are scanned for forced subs following this order and stream number down.
If forced subs are found they'll be put into the 9999 stream. And these come only from 1(!) stream.
Now I have a multipart source (Hancock) which has unfortunately forced subs in 2 GER subs streams (normal & director's comments). I think that's legal because always one is hidden in two different playlists. But that is not respected by BDRB (good idea btw).
Obviously the same approach as above takes place here. On each part of the multipart source the subs are scanned and the forced ones are extracted.
But in some parts the normal stream has no forced subs, but the director's comments has and those are now in the 9999 file.
A possible solution could be to remember the sub stream number from the first part where ALL forced subs were extracted to a 9999 file and to use only this stream for searching forced subs or to disable a stream completely from the stream tab. While writing I think the latter is a bad idea because I don't know if I need to keep a track before BDRD demuxed it and I can analyse it.
I hope you could follow my attempt to explain it.
If case you have an idea for a workaround I'm also fine with it as it seems to be a very rare case.
Quoting myself...
I found a work around by creating a full backup with no compression and unticking the subtiltle stream that caused problems. Afterwards I created an alternate output from that.

I have updated the first post of this thread with a link to an updated release of BD-RB (v0.40.10). Changes for this release include: Corrected an issue related to unusual MPLS files
that could result in "SourceCheck() 00006 2501" at
program startup or during scanning.
Just following up on a recent problem I'm having opening the above mentioned disc. Did a little more digging and found a similar problem was fixed a while back in the version above. I have noticed that BDRB will open the disc in movie only mode but not in full backup or movie & menus mode. Another member was asked to send their .mpls files for another disc with a similar problem. If you like I can do the same, let me know. Thanks for any help/suggestions!
If you send me a PM with a link, I'll download it and see what I can find.
Can I zip up and email the .mpls files to the address I just made the dontation to? FYI, I've tried re-ripping and opening/scanning the disc directly from the drive in BDRB but still no luck...

Hi spotswood, I just tried the same and BDRB reports error 2603 ScanDirectory() 00006 2603 followed by 2701 BuildTreeList() 00009 2701. It does only happen if mode is set to "Full Backup" or "Movie & Menus" as you wrote. Normally my setting is "Movie-Only". Therefore it did not happen for me.
@ jdobbs: Anything I/we could try before you buy discs you are (edit) NOT interessted in. Also tried 0.50.24 I still had on my HDD.

File not found/permission denied errors
I've been getting the following errors with my Win7 piece of crap system:
Run-time error '53':
File not found
Run-time error '70':
Permission denied
It would be great if BDRB would wait a second, then retry what it was trying to do. Five attempts max before really bailing.
And no, it doesn't fail at the same point in the run.
Thanks.

I assemble all of my own systems. I do not buy pre-packaged hardware/software. In this case, I think the motherboard is at fault. It is an ASUS Crosshair AMD mobo. I only do AMD processors. Stupid thing is that ASUS has respect in the mobo making industry. So, I do not know why this one is giving me issues.

I'm running a Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P for the Linux box and that box has been extremely stable. Ebay/Newegg has the GA-970A-DS3P for $70. I can transfer all of the stuff in the ASUS mobo to the Gigabyte.
Nice to know about the ASUS issue with the Crosshair IV series. The Gigabyte also has separate connectors for the keyboard and rodent, which allows for better connection to my 8-port KVM switch.
I think I'll grab one of those mobos. Thanks for the ASUS input.

MOVIE-ONLY Mode problem
I have a disc that I am creating from M2TS files that I created that have H.264 video, a DTS audio stream, a AC3 audio stream and 2 subtitle streams.
The first portion of the run that creates the BDMV structure with a menu works to completion. But because the video files are too large to fit onto a BD25, I then clicked on BACKUP. Here is the log file:

But, Full Backup is selected under the Mode menu pulldown. How can I turn off Movie-Only mode that is already off? My final output just needs the video recoded so that the five video files fit on the disc and the other streams (both audios and sub-titles) are left intact.
UPDATE: I did a test with a previous job and it did not do Movie-Only mode. I went back to the problem job and turned on Movie-Only mode, only using a couple of the files. It went into Movie-Only mode. I aborted and changed the mode to Full Backup and clicked on Backup. No Movie-Only mode. WTF? But, it still was not keeping both audio streams. I went looking and it seems that AUDIO_TRACK_LIMIT=1 needs to be change. Doing so did the trick.
Am I going to have to cycle the Movie-Only mode to get it to work? Or was there something that needed a kick-in-the-butt?

(written from my Piece of Crap Win8 System)I always had good luck with Win7. But all my systems are on Windows 10 now. On all but one of my computers I skipped right over the entire Win8 series. There were too many issues on the first Win8 releases (although I understand they got better later).
I've been using ASUS for a long time too. I've had good luck with those too. Right now two of my four machines are running on ASUS motherboards (they are admittedly older models, though).

Correct. But, in the situations that BDRB is running into, they are false positives. I'll bet a retry will result in the error not happening again for the same request. If there was a real problem, BDRB would run into it each and every time the run was done. In these cases, they occur at different points in the run.
I'm hoping that the problem will be solved with a different mobo.

Question about menu item text placement
What is the leading, in pixels, from one menu item line to the next, within a 1080 menu?
Thanks.Sorry. I'm not sure what you are asking.
The spacing between lines is variable based on the value of MENU_TOP (see hidden options) and a constant assumption of 16 menu items per column. If you set MENU_TOP to a fairly high value (the default is 200), you normally would have to decrease the font size in order to avoid overlap.
Not sure if that helps.

None of my jobs have a menu top. I create the menu background image for all jobs. A menu page will never have more than 10 items. With that info in hand, can you give an idea of what the spacing would be, in pixels?

Hi all,
first of know: I know that nearly all issues I have are subtitle-related...no comment :-)
I wonder if someone came across this issue. Source is a Bluray with some extras in 480i: Aristocats (had the same issue with some James Bond 'A view to a kill' btw).
I want to encode an extra to alternate output (mp4) and as soon as subtitles are displayed I get this massive green bar at the left side. I upscaled, downscaled, whatever, the bar persists. It vanishes after the presentation time of the subtitle. As SupTitle plugin is no longer developed I wonder if someone found a work-around.
EDIT: Using DGDecNV as frame server. Using internal LAV the bar gets smaller but is still there. Autocrop and deinterlacing make no difference. AviSynth script looks like this:
#Created by BD Master Toolkit - v0.50.25
LoadPlugin("C:\Users\xxx\Documents\Software\DGDecNV\DGDecodeNV.dll")
DGSource("C:\Users\xxx\Videos\BD_WORK_1\WORKFILES\VID_00106.DGI", fieldop=0)
LoadPlugin("C:\Program Files (x86)\AviSynth\plugins\SupTitle.dll")
SupTitle("C:\Users\xxx\Videos\BD_WORK_1\WORKFILES\00106.track_4608.sup")
ConvertToYV12()

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong place. I have been trying to understand using the mkv format to do my Blu-rays. I was using the folder structure before. With the size of 9gb on the file size. But some of the programs I am using does not recognize the folder structure. Now, when I'm trying to do MKV under alternate file output. I would try the 1080 with intact audio. Because sound is just as important to me as video. But when it's finished the file size is compressed to much. For example, having a Blu-ray with a original size of 42gb, and when the process is finished in came out under 1gb. Another was under 2gb. Some of them seem to have even lost some black level. Which I can understand to some degree with any compressing. But under the process with the 9gb folder structure was much more than the mkv, as far as black level. How can I get to get it to output between 8gb - 12gb with audio intact as a mkv. Or what settings should I be selecting. Or am I not suppose to be in the Alternate Outputs. Please help. Thanks

Which CRF value are you using when outputting to MKV?
Also depends which Equipment you are using for viweing: 32 inch TV or 150 inch beamer. CRF value of 20 should give pretty good results. the lower the better. Anything below 18 is a waste in most peoples' opinion.

CRF means C onstant R ate F actor. That setting controls the encoder output quality-wise.
In BDRB goto menu "Mode" and "- Alternate Movie-Only Output" (accessible if "Movie-Only Output" is selected also unser "Mode"). You'll see a list with the pre-defined profiles. Each Profile (that is not "intact video") gives you the opportunity to switch between different encoding modes. You'll see some checkboxes (1. CRF, 2. Two Pass, 3. Two Pass Target, ...) Which one is selected and which value are you using?

Text not being placed as configured
I configured the text to be placed at 500 vertical and 750 horizontal. If you look at this screen shot (photo) (http://vidiot.com/images/BDRB_text_offset.jpg), you'll see that the text is placed correctly horizontally. But vertically it seems to be at 537 pixels from the top.
Is this a bug, or am I missing something? Please don't tell me that the text is being placed based upon the top of the text cell. It should be placed according to the text baseline.

Is there way to take the value that M$ supplies and fudge it to get it near what the user actually wants?
If not, a note in the hidden text for that value (MENU_TOP/MENU_VERTICAL) to indicate what the placement value actually means, i.e. top of text cell, not the value at text base line? Also indicating that when using defaults, the offset from cell top is 37 pixels to text baseline.
Thanks.

Thanks.Unfortunately that doesn't work, because different fonts can be used and the offset would change.
I don't think I agree that this is what the "user actually wants". I think most people would assume the offset is from the top/left of the screen to the top/left of the first character block.

Shouldn't make a difference, unless you used a difference point size. That is the whole idea behind a "point" size for a font.
I don't think I agree that this is what the "user actually wants". I think most people would assume the offset is from the top/left of the screen to the top/left of the first character block.
I guess I'm not most people. :D As you can see from the image of the screen, the idea is to align the baseline of the "date" images with the baseline of the menu text. That can't be done working with the top of the character cell.
Depending on the program being used, say a word document program, text is normally placed inside of a text cell. In that case, the text line is fit against the upper-left corner. But, in programs like Illustrator and Photoshop, when text is place on the screen and NOT placed in a cell box, the text baseline is used as the reference. I have no clue as to what M$ provides for text manipulation capabilities. The font baseline is a known value.
So, in this case, I was thinking the text would be placed more free form, i.e., baseline.
Needless to say, I won't be doing these types of menus very often.

Nope. That isn't how text characters work. A character cell is the same size, no matter if it is lower case or upper case. Dig into programs that are used for character creation.

Thanks
Not sure what CRF is. But the TV I'm using is a 80"
I do all my conversions as "alt-Movie Only"... I pick "MKV Container, 1920x1080 Intact Audio" For the check boxes below that I pick Constant Rate Factor Output (CRF) and enter 21 in the box.
That gives me a great balance of video quality, file size and keeps the audio tracks, including any HD audio.
Most of the resulting MKV files are between 7-10gig. Movies with HD audio or multiple audio tracks can result in bigger MKV files. Conversions where the original disc only has DD/DTS non-HD, and only one or two audio tracks, the resulting MKV could be as small as 5-6gig.
Usually I don't notice any difference in video quality between the MKV and the original disc when watching on my on my Sony 55" HX750, 46" XBR6 or 43" XBR 4K. (I use a Fire TV 2nd Gen box, with Kodi and MrMC to play the MKV's off a file share, or the Plex app to play back from a Plex Media Server)
IF/when I watch a converted file and I notice enough black crush or blockiness, or color banding in particular scenes or situations to be annoying (which is rare!!) I might change the CRF value to 20 or 19 and convert again. The resulting file size is bigger, but for the most part video quality isn't "night and day" better, so I rarely change it.

Shouldn't make a difference, unless you used a difference point size. That is the whole idea behind a "point" size for a font. Thanks for the lecture, Capt Obvious. It's amazing that I've managed to last this long without your insights! That's pretty much what I meant by changing the font. As the spacing gets adjusted, the point size changes as well. Otherwise the text in the lines would start overlapping very quickly.

Sorry, wasn't obvious that you were also talking about point size. To me, changing a font doesn't mean changing the point size.
I'll just have to remember to subtract 37 from any vertical position I am interested in (if I really need to be specific). The most I will do is 7 lines a page, but usually only 5. That should result in sticking with the defaults.
