So what how would I go about setting a particular sub to be forced? The man page is not all that intuitive. What are the command line options I need to use to set sub 3 to forced?

Here is an example to do what you asked. I don't know if it's the only way, or the "right" way, but it works for me. :)

mkvpropedit "Title of Video.mkv" --edit track:s3 --set flag-default=1

When I use this command, instead of track:s3 I use track:s2 for the 2nd sub track, and that works for me. Hopefully s3 works for you.

Cheers.

Regardless of who may or may not hear a difference (I admit I'm not positive I can tell a lossless DTS from its core), the point is BD RB has a lossless source to encode from. 640kbps DD is pretty good quality output but to start by throwing out some data before encoding doesn't make much sense. It's not like using the lossless track would increase encoding time or make the output take up more space.

You are absolutely right. I just don't know the mechanics of how BDRB does it. JD will have to explain that one...

I'll look at it. The problem, I believe, is in the decoding. Most decoders use the core anyway (even if presented with an HD stream), and I think NicAudio may do the same.

Edit: Wow, I didn't realize what an unreasonable question that was. Googling around it looks like the only way to decode DTS-HD MA is with ArcSoft filters and LAVFilter or Eac3to.
I don't think ffmpeg can do it either.

Just reread your post DoctorM. Your're quite right, Arcsoft filters are required no matter which decoder is used.

I Have a problem with forced subtitles with 3D backups (BD-25). The feature "Turn Subtitles On" (FORCED ON) doesn't seem to work. If I check the Backup with Power DVD 14, the subtitles are off. With normal 2D backups, everything works fine.

Is there a way to turn the subtitles on after reencoding?

Yes, you're right (movie-only 3D backup). Sorry I forgot to mention that.Ok, when the new code was added to support 3D, the function to enable audio/video that was selected from the streams list wasn't transferred into the new code. I've fixed it for the next release.

I have updated the first post of this thread with a link to the most recent version of BD-RB (v0.50.05). Changes for this release:- Updated Quick-Menu code. Now multiple menu
pages are created when more menu items are
present than will fit on one page. Applies
to menus created with Quick-Menu or Imports.
- Added a new hidden option MENU_MAXITEMS that
limits the number of menu items to be shown
on each menu page. See HIDDENOPTS.TXT.
- Added MENU_BACKDROP_OPACITY as a new hidden
option. This allows you to customize the
opacity (transparency level) of the menu
backdrop, ranging from transparent to
completely opaque. See HIDDENOPTS.TXT.
- Corrected an issue in which bitrates set to
384Kbs in ALTERNATE encoding were assuming
stereo downmix (the rule should be applied
only when the bitrate is LESS THAN 384Kbs).
- Updated the included version of the FRIM
utilities and library to v1.24. This will
correct some reported decoding issues that
were present in previous versions of the
Intel Media SDK related to 3D processing.
- Updated the MKVMERGE command line so that
forced subtitles will be properly flagged
in the ouput MKV file.
- Corrected an issue in which, under certain
circumstances, the audio portion of a full
backup on a multi-part source might be set
to reencode as stereo rather than 5.1 when
LAV filters are in use and stereo mixing
has been enabled.
- Fixed a problem in which selecting audio
and/or subtitles as defaulted or forced "on"
from the streams list (in movie-only mode)
was not working when working for 3D sources.
- Corrected an issue in which 3D titles that
have been reauthored using Quick-Play mode
may not play back in 3D.
- Updated the included version of X264.EXE to
the latest release (r2538).
- Updated the included version of X264-64.EXE
to the latest release (r2538).
- Updated the included version of X265.EXE to
a newer release (03/07/2015).
- Other minor corrections and cosmetic fixes.

Just reread your post DoctorM. Your're quite right, Arcsoft filters are required no matter which decoder is used.

In theory, if BD RB used LAV Audio for decoding, it would automatically use the DTS core by default, but if the ArcSoft .dll were present it would work losslessly instead. That's thanks to how LAV Audio was written.

Of course LAV Audio would need to be adjusted when called so any user settings wouldn't cause problems. (eg: number of output channels, bit depth, etc.) Not sure how difficult that would be.

If is copyrighted and cannot be included with BD-RB. It is also a part of a now defunct and unsupported software package.

Thank you for new version, jdobbs! :)
But I think nothing prevents the BD-RB offer this option(load the dll) for those who already purchased Total Media Theater for example.

Understood. That's why it's nice that LAV audio would work whether you dropped in the .dll or not. The only difference would be how it works.

BD RB doesn't have to include anything not free that way.

I don't think so. I don't think I've made any changes to the routines specific to Quick-Menu in quite a while.
......
Are you really positive that nothing has changed? It still seems to me that editing the Quick-menu (text of menu items, stream selection/deselection) has no effect when the source is on a read-only medium. Only the "Main Title:" of the disc gets changed. The rest (Title Edit: 01. ..... ) reverts to the default.
I think it used to work after you applied the fix in v0.45.04. Weird .....

I use the Quick-play menu even if I keep the feature only, if this should matter. Or does 2D/3D perhaps make a difference?

Just an FYI, the change worked for the the few MKVs I have tested so far. Previously the forced subs on these MKV backups were not selected and did not show during playback, but now the resulting backup of the same source as previous has the forced subs displaying. Great job! :)

Great job, jdobbs! I just updated my encoding PC's intel drivers and held my breath wondering if it would work. Jdobbs, does import function handle mp2 sound.
I imported mpeg video with mp2 sound track into program. However in final output there is no sound. This doesn't happen with other files I try.

Also for PAL sources which have 25fps, shouldn't be keyint be 25 or 50 for extended gop, unlike 24 or 48.

It should, as long as it is detected correctly as MPEG1 Layer 2 by mediainfo. I'm not sure I've tested it though. I will. It would need to be reencoded during import, though, since it isn't supported in the BD standard.

Yes, PAL GOP should probably be set to 25. I'm away from y office right now -- will look on return.

Quick play menu:
Could you check the issue reported here?

Secondly, a minor (probably cosmetic) issue with Import/Quick Play settings: When I browse for a picture and the path of the Default backdrop picture is a bit long, it gets truncated and I have no control whether the wanted picture is accepted or not.

JDobbs, I have an issue with trying to make a compilation disc. I want to put 3 episodes of a show on one BD. I ripped the MKVs to the drive and used BDRebuilder on each MKV to turn it into BD format. The three episodes with their BDMV and Certificate folders are in subfolders of the main movie folder. That parent folder has only these 3 subfolders, and inside these subfolders are only the BDMV and certificate folders. My understanding from reading a post back in 2013 is that I click on file--import--BDs-quick authored and then navigate to the parent folder. That is supposed to search through the folders to find the 3 episodes. Instead, every time I click on the parent folder, it gives me an error message that it is not in BD format. If I click on the individual subfolders, those will allow me to import only that one episode.

I know I'm just being dense, but can you tell me where I'm going wrong?

TIA

SMK

It's probably because you're trying to import from a pseudo-BD folder. You should:

1. Set the background picture if you want to customize it.
2. Put the three MKVs into a folder together.
3. Use "Import Files" to import them all at the same time.
4. Edit title names and title as needed.
5. Let BD-RB create the pseudo BD folder.
6. Perform a full-disc backup.

Hi jdobbs, I'm trying to back up Nebraska BD. The source has 3.0 DTS audio (F3, or front 3 channel as shown in VLC codec info).

Issue #1: After converting the audio to AC3, the final output has no dialog, only background/music. I think the dialog may be in center channel and was somehow discarded. Not sure if there is any settings to remedy this.

Issue #2: The alternative to issue #1 is to keep the DTS track, but none of the relevant setting seem to work. For target size BD-5, I tried toggling the "Do not convert DTS to AC3" to no avail. I also tried setting a custom target size and toggling the "Keep HD Audio for BD25/Alternate Intact" the but it keeps encoding DTS to AC3. Please advise.

Thank you!

You can't keep HD Audio/DTS on BD-5 or BD-9. Which bring me to question what is your custom target size.

Thank you!Yeah. I had a problem with that one also. Same thing. I meant to modify the code to handle it (it's a weird audio structure I've never seen before), but after I manually reencoded it I must have forgotten to go back and look at it.

To keep the DTS track you'd have to disable "Strict AVCHD" and add "OVERRIDE_AVCHD_AUDIO_LIMIT=1" to the INI. But I don't recommend that, as although some players will play it, the AVCHD standard doesn't support it and it's likely to be an issue at some point in the future.

I used TFM Audio Tool to encode the DTS file to AC3 then replaced the file in WORKFILES, then did a "resume job" to repeat the final remuxing. It came out great. Thanks.

the same problem if you have a 4.0, 4.1 or 5.0 track. for those tracks I must use dvdfab for audio encoding.

There is possibility of creating the SSIF folder back by area INI file?
Use Full Backup long I replace only the audio of my country to enjoy uncompressed, but I have noticed that in some domestic teams do not reproduce without the actual SSIF extructura.

I have to state, though, that in several thousand encodes I don't think I have never seen a 4.0, 4.1, or 5.0 track.

@Floque

If you are encoding for blu-ray output to be played on a real player there is never a need (since in-mux encoding is 100% compliant with the blu-ray spec)... so why waste the effort?

Jdobbs Thanks for your time.
For it is important to be able to enjoy titles that are not sold in my country and I can only compar online once changing the original audio by the audio of my country. I can do it somehow?

I think he wants to add audio of his native language, to movies that don't already have it.
Or he wants to make it default. Very difficult to understand his intentions.

Thank you both for the replies.
I want to retrieve the copy SSIF folder again if possible. Currently that folder and its contents for quite some acutalizaciones it does not exist and some of my equipment is not working disk, just wondering if it's possible maybe it is not.

Omegaman7 effectively change the original language by maternal indioma mine and that already do so as jdobbs helped me in this issue.

Heh, I like that :)

BTW, only once or twice have I run into a Blu-ray with 4.0 audio.

Lately, I've been having issues with BDR creating output files. If I select the option for ImgBurn to make an ISO, the program goes through the encoding (encode and rebuild complete), launches ImgBurn (writing BD structure to ISO file), ImgBurn appears to do its thing (ImgBurn completed successfully), and the jom completes (JOB: XXX finished).

However, either the ISO is not actually created, or it gets deleted. If I subsequently open ImgBurn to burn the ISO, the ISO file is not in the folder where it is supposed to be.

Oddly, if I select output to immediately burn the disk with ImgBurn, that works.

This was never an issue until the last couple of weeks. It happened in 50.04 and now 50.05.
