Regarding NVENCCRE: can I feed it with BluRay m2ts files?
I tried several disks, 1080p and UHD and encode failed on every single one.

Interesting. I just tried one, and if you run the command line from a DOS window, you get a "permission denied" error as well as "failed to initiate file reader". Weird. Then if you change the output format to "m2ts" it works.
I'll look at it -- but right now it's just confusing.
You're better using BD-RB on a BD M2TS anyway. That way things like chapters etc. are kept (from the BD's MPLS file).
[Edit] Even weirder. By default it uses the name of the input file (in my case 00512.m2ts) in creating the output file name. So it tries to create "00512.mkv". If I change the output name so it includes an alpha character (like "A00512.mkv" or "00512A.mkv" it works fine. Then if I change the name to "00000.mkv" (also all numeric) -- it works. I have to be missing something???

Sure, don't waste your time on it, I just thought I give it a try, since most movies are contained in one m2ts :o
How do you set m2ts as output? I can only choose between mkv, mp4 and mov
And I just wanted to ask about the commandline execution, but then I saw the nvlastcmd.txt in the workfolder ;)
Edit: running the command in cmd runs fine and gives a proper mkv output

I just looked, and the reason I get the "permission denied" is because the NVENCC process is actually running. So apparently I've gotten a signal that the process failed within NVENCCRE -- when it actually didn't. Trying to run the process again on the same output file name is the issue -- not the numeric name.
I set the target to M2TS manually by using the command line in "NVLASTCMD.TXT" (I put that there mainly for debugging).

...
Yeah, noticed that also... my GPU memory was about 90% used and I wanted to know why because I couldn't see open programs. From Task manager I could see nvencc.exe still running in multiple instances, but no other activity, neither encode or decode. Killing those processes freed the memory.

It is in the source file information collection using MEDIAINFO. M2TS files have some differences (from other container formats) in the way information is reported. That confused NVENCCRE.

Ohhh, this is sweet also for slower GTX boards! This can be helpful to bypass the whole importing then extracting to reencode.

@jdobbs, I’ve fixed the large images as requested; hope this detailed report is OK now
---
Hi, I hope you are all doing well.
I found out this great application for the first time and I've been trying to use to compress a Blu-Ray movie decrypted in my HDD (plain files). I've tried about 25 times; switching the settings around, and still have the same issue.
The movie is “A Glitch in the Matrix"; around 35 GB uncompressed. It consists of the menu, main movie, trailer and a Zoom webinar Q&A extra. The most important problem happens with this last extra video. No matter how many settings I switched around, it ends up with the video sped up about 2x (perhaps even more) and the audio running normally. Here are a couple of facts:
- I'm trying this on a fresh copy of Windows 10; with everything installed and configured following the readme file and the “Inspect” reports turns out everything OK (posted at the bottom)
- If I try to preview the file by right clicking it within BD Rebuilder, it opens in Media Player Classic and it plays wrongly; exactly the same, with the video about twice as fast compared to the audio
- If I open the extra file directly from within the source folder, through VLC, it plays perfectly fine
- The file in question has two audio tracks that, seemingly, are exactly the same. It's not that one is 5.1 and the other Stereo (or something like that). This will be important later
- In my quest to find software to compress Blu Rays, I've tried DVDFab and exactly the same issue resulted after the process finished; with the video extremely sped up. After switching around several settings there, I've found that if I left the two audio tracks for the extra and use software compression (disabling Intel QuickSync), the finished video ended up right! But I'll really love to use BD Rebuilder instead; that's why I'm trying so hard to make it work
- If in DVDFab, I left only one audio track (no matter which one); even when disabling QuickSync and with the exact same settings as the previous point, the video again turned out to run extremely fast; while the audio plays normal. I have to left the two audio tracks in for it to render a fine, working video
- In my current settings, I have selected the option to not convert DTS, leave HD audio as is, etc; trying to minimize recoding as much as possible. The same issue still persists.
- Of course, I have tried the DirectshowSource, LAVF and FRIMSource serving settings; all producing the same results
- The only weird thing I've noticed is that, the log for that extra file, shows an “EXIT CODE: -2”, but continues processing as if nothing happened. Of course, I've tried searching for this exit code here and couldn't find anything about it
I don't know what issue exactly that damn extra video file has, that makes this fail over and over. I've been working on this for over a week; trying highest quality settings 2 pass (15+ hours), fast, auto, etc.; always the same result. The only thing that worked so far was DVDFab, if I configure it as described above.
Some questions that I have in my head:
- Why does that file has two seemingly audio tracks and why, if I only leave one in, DVDFab still produces a video 2x sped up?
- (This probably related to not knowing how BD Rebuilder works fully) Why when switching on and off the audio tracks in extra, other audio tracks (in different files), switch on and off along with it?
- Why the built in Media Player Classic preview also runs the source; untouched file at wrong speed, while VLC plays it fine? Does it have to do with some installed codecs? Remember, this is a fresh Windows 10 installation with nothing crazy going on and I've only ever used VLC for playing
An unrelated problem, but that also drove me nuts for the first couple of days, was that the process aborted around 50% with an audio recoding error. I think it's because the track in the main movie is DTS-HD and I've read in some old post that BD Rebuilder might have some problems with that? But should it still be able to convert that audio file too (hence the “leave HD audio alone” option)? When I activated that, BD Rebuilder doesn't try to touch the audio and fully completes, but would be nice to know also why it's not working for conversion of HD audio and if there was anything I could to make it work too.
Would you please help me to troubleshoot this in any way you can? Or letting me know how to run some “forensics” on that extra file, to post its data here (codecs; anything that may be useful to troubleshoot)?
I'm posting all this information and anything I can think of at the end, for you to be able to see.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide on this matter; as it's truly driving me crazy trying to find out exactly where the problem lies! :D.

I will test this. What caught my eye is the "pure" in your quote. To me that means EAC3 with an AC3 core.
Update: Works great in my Sony UBP-X800M2 bitstreamed to my Denon AVR-X8500H.
One step closer to getting BDRB working with these E-AC3 files, with no extra workarounds by Jdobbs.

I don't see how, since BDRB detects that it is DD+ and does a recode. Jdobbs needs to change BDRB not to recode DD+ audio.

OK, just seems backwards to me. Pure to me means following the Dolby spec where DD+ has an AC3 core.
Over in the tsMuxer thread, there was one guy who tested this with his Oppo player and the player crashed. Ouch!
MrVideo
26th January 2022, 10:03
So, I tried to create a BD with three programs containing DD+. As I suspected, BDRB recoded the E-AC3 to mono AC3. At that point I then created three BD folders with tsMuxer. I renamed the three structures, appropriately to 1, 2 and 3. Copied over the renamed clip, play and m2ts files. I then edited the three playlists and repointed them to their appropriate m2ts files.
After putting the disc into the BD player, I selected one of the titles and the player went into stop mode, whereby I got the player's home screen.
No idea what I did wrong.
As a side note, I did not let BDRB do the backup stage. I used the pseudo, temporary, BD folder that was created by BDRB.

I have done it, and it works
Replace tsmuxer and tsmuxer4k in the tools folder
Load your "mp4" with e-ac3 audio into tsMuxeR (standalone)
Create a BD folder
IMPORT that BD structure into BD_RB

OK. The LED bulb finally lit. You didn't catch what I was doing wrong and I finally caught on when you said the import the tsMuxer BD folder. I remembered something else that was mentioned in the thread, and was what was needed to be done in order to import more than one BD and that was to put all of the BDs in the same directory.
Once I did that, all was great.
Thanks for the help. It took some nudging, but I finally got there. This will be a lot easier when JDobb updates BDRB to do this. I know, wishful thinking, as it will help both of us and who know how many others.

Hi jdobbs,
A few days ago I posted my report on an issue I was having. Its the third time that I’ve tried posting it, you corrected it before and I made the images smaller, so it wouldn’t be so long. Developers usually complain that end users don’t post exhaustive reports of issues, so I tried to be as detailed as possible, with logs, settings and even video shorts that I uploaded in YouTube to show results; yet I still don’t see it approved, so I guess it is still not OK?
I feel like I’m passing an exam of “posting the perfect report” before the message is visible. Could you please instruct me what is wrong this time so I can try fix it again?
Thanks.

I have an HEVC video that is 3840x1600, with E-AC3. Steps done:
1) Used tsMuxer to create BD folder
2) Imported (via browser) the BD folder
3) set FORCE-ENCODE=1 This was done because the first time thru the video was not recoded to 3840x2160.
4) Backup
The video was recoded, but letterbox bars were still not added. This has worked with 1080p video that needed letterbox bars. Does this not work with 4K videos?

Should Audio:Intact be working to pass through the audio?
I tried feeding it two MKV that were from uncompressed UHD rips of their main movies. They both had TrueHD.
The output of one was 5.1 AC and was missing the voices. 1917 ended up having 2 Channel AC3 audio.
NVlastcmd.txt for 1917:

Nope, for jdobbs. It was my understanding that when doing a BD/UHD output that if the incoming video wasn't 1080/2160, it would recode and add the needed letterbox bars.
The first pass it did not recode, so I forced it the 2nd time around and it did not add the bars.
Looking at the log it said that the source video was HEVC 3840x2160, which it wasn't. MediaInfo reported 3840x1600. Could be why no letterbox addition.
I'm not set up for doing HEVC. I normally just let BDRB do it. But in this case, it was not doing what I thought it should be doing.

My guess is that BD-RB got confused because you imported from what it believed to have been a BD (and therefore should meet standards). So BD-RB assumed that the info in the CLPI/MPLS was correct when it said the source was 3820x2160.
You should be able to correct it by adding the AVISYNTH AddBorders() filter via the filter editor.

According to the command line, the 4th audio track should have been kept -- and it should have been copied intact.
What does it do if there are multiple audio streams included in the file? Should it keep them all?
Under special processing -> language selection... all are selected, and the boxes for limit 1 are unselected, and appears to be set "keep all" for audio in the ini

Yep, makes perfect sense.

Doing that now. Thanks for the tip.

Sounds like it should keep them all. I'll look at the code and do some testing.
[Edit] Ok. I see the issue. Somehow I managed to not include a check for "all" in the audio language check. Duh...

Another mystery. I imported 4 BDs. When that was done, I clicked on Backup in order to re-encode the HEVC video to fit the BD. But, it got nowhere as it complained that the video had an illegal framerate. Huh? They are 23.976. So, I went looking with BDEdit. In the playlist STN section, the V column had a zero, but the DV column had a 1 and that framerate was correct and it pointed to the correct PID in the M2TS file.
Any guesses as to why BDRB thinks the framerate is incorrect? Is it because it is DV video?

Hi jdobbs,
Would you please let me know what was wrong with me wrong encoding report (https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1962051#post1962051) that the post wasn’t approved? How could I fix it?
Thanks.

Thanks jdobbs.
Adding to my report (https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1962051#post1962051), if you take a look at the info there of that “Extra” video, it shows FPS as 59.97 (vs. the regular full movie), and it’s a standard Zoom call with the director, with nothing special.
Would that have anything to do with the video being so sped up vs. the audio? It amazes me that right-clicking the extra an doing the “Preview” with your Media Classic Player, it shows the video already sped up; similar to the output if I encode it!
My guess is that the problem goes a layer beyond your encoding; why is Media Player Classic playing that video so fast, on a brand new Windows 10 installation? Anything to troubleshoot there? Other players (VLC, DVDFab, Leawo, etc.) play the video at the right speed, so I don’t know what Media Player Classic is using internally to play it, but makes me suspect that the same issue that it has ends up happening after I encode the disc in BD-Rebuilder; that if I can’t fix Media Player Classic playing it fine, it would be pointless to test the encoding, as the same thing would happen there.
Thanks; hopefully I can get some ideas on what to troubleshoot. Have a great weekend

Check the framerate in the CLPI.
All are 23.976.
UPDATE: Started another project where the video is HEVC/HDR, no DV, and it re-encodes just fine.

it shows FPS as 59.97
That is not a legal/normal frame rate. 29.97 and 59.94 are the legal rates.
I went back and looked at the video. 59.94p is a legal frame rate for 720p video.
Posting samples on YouTube is a bad idea, as they screw with the video before posting it. A pure sample must be posted elsewhere.

Thanks for your reply MrVideo. I meant to type 54.94; sorry for the error.
Do you have any suggestions on what to check when I say that even doing the preview of that extra, with the included MPC, displays the video at almost double speed? Even before talking about any encoding!
What (codec?) is MPC using to play this extra that might be failing and making it play almost double-speed; same results as encoding with BD-Rebuilder, but other players, such as VLC, play it fine?

I've downloaded the BD (for testing purposes) and took a look at the extra with MediaInfo. The H.264 video is 720p29.97. That frame rate is not Blu-ray legal. They get around the issue by marking it: Frame Mode = Frame Doubling.

My guess is that MPC has a bug and doesn't handle frame doubling correctly. It is supposed to output the video @ 59.94 (repeat each frame), but the audio is to be kept @ 29.97.
I do not know what BDRB will do with that. I can't test BDRB at the moment, since I have a project running.
Haul it into BDRB and see what happens. If is ends up speeding up the video, jdobbs will have something to work with.

I do all my video compression first (usually)
By letting BDRB ultimately do the re-encoding means that the multiple videos that will be placed on a BD25 will fit.
Keep in mind, if there is DD+ audio, while DBRB is recoding a video, you will have to rename the *.ec3 audio stream to *ac3. If you don't, when it comes time to mux the streams, BDRB will fail because it can't find the AC3 file. If you forget, or don't get to it in time, just rename the file and hit Backup and continue.

Wow, thanks for going the extra mile and actually downloading the release to test! :D
Putting it through BD Rebuilder encoding ends up with the file sped up; exactly the same as the preview you mentioned (like this: https://youtu.be/QAoe__M8kOI). I actually found out after a lot of testing that MPC was also previewing the file in the same way (I though it was a BDRB encoding problem only, as VLC was playing the media correctly).
Thanks again MrVideo; looking forward to jdobbs comments on this.

You're welcome. I suspect that VLC is ignoring the flag setting.

Maybe x264 framerate flagging related, not necessarily BD-RB:
Just had to restore some 25p .MTS assets to 50p, reencoded, remuxed and reintroduced them into an old Vegas Pro 14 project.
Vegas sees these now as 100fps and plays each frame 10ms followed by a framerepeat, Mediainfo sees them as 50fps.
My h264info is dead now, so maybe sombody else has confirmed it better ?

Thanks jdobbs. I downloaded the file, but what am I supposed to do with it? I thought about replacing a built-in version that, perhaps, you include with BD-Rebuilder, but the closest file I found was NVEncC.exe, so they are not the same.
I’m sorry I’m not a video expert as you guys; I’m just a “n00b” that wanted to convert that Glitch in the Matrix movie. It was the first time I wanted to do a conversion, the first time I’ve found your tool and the first time I was looking forward to be able to burn a Blu-Ray back. What a luck… first time and it doesn’t work because some flagging / non-compliant attributes that sound like gibberish to me... :scared:
Thanks again for your help.
