I did upgrade everything -- what I did was just delete first the previous BDRebuilder folder (which I always kept in 'Program Files') and then unzip and place the new BDRebuilder in its place.
Ok, so far so good.
Did you uninstall, delete then reinstall the new versions of ffdshow, haali and avisynth (from the first post of this thread). That might the next thing to try.

@jakobkraft: RE: Quote- I did upgrade everything -- what I did was just delete first the previous BDRebuilder folder (which I always kept in 'Program Files') -
Per instructions on (FIRST PAGE) Per Step 3 -3. Unzip the BD-RB.zip file. Put it in a directory of its own. I'd recommend putting it somewhere other than "C:\Program Files" until it has been tested more (because of the virtualization that began with Vista).
Maybe this will help by moving it, and also sometimes you need to uninstall all the helper apps and reboot and reinstall. goodluck, woirknstiff

Hello all,
I am away from the home PC at the moment, but I did think to email a log file this morning. I am running Win7 and believe I am on the latest & greatest version of the software, but was unable to shrink the Big Lebowski last night. I'm hoping it's just a setting I didn't reset correctly after the upgrade. :)

Good work on the new edit mode! With the new edit mode, is there anyway to tell what kind of size I've got the source down to after making edits? For example, I have a disc that is just a few gb's over a 25gb BD-R. After blanking some titles, can I tell if my blanking and audio removal has made enough of a difference to not have to re-encode? Any plans to add an option to force some titles not to be re-encoded?

Hi!
1) Are you attempting to do a "Full Disc" backup or a "Movie-Only" backup?
2) What is your source material?

Hi all. Many thx to Jdobbs and the rest of you diligent helpers. I just became a financial contributer and I hope to contribute more in the near future. I feel a bit guilty as I have been using this for some time now.
On to my problem...
After my latest rebuild after installing new version I find no CERTIFICATE file in my working folder so that means my Imgburn cannot make a usable ISO copy. All I have is the BDMV file...weird huh?
I have same setup I have always had:
Windows 7
CPU: Intel Core i5 M460 @ 2.53 Ghz
Blue ray
Latest version of AnyDVD HD
Tried to do the new TRANSFORMERS 3 Dark of The Moon.
9 Hour build basically (usual for disc that size for me)
MOVIE ONLY MODE (usual)
No weird log entries, seemed normal. But no CERTIFICATE file upon rebuild. Checked all the work files. Nothing.
Here's the log. If you spot what I did wrong, thanks in advance.
Dan.

If you have selected "Strict AVCHD for BD-5/9 Movie Only", I believe this is why there is no Certificate folder in the output. ;)
JJB
3rd October 2011, 21:35
I have "Strict AVCHD for BD-5/9 Movie Only" selected and Imgburn makes an ISO from the folder with no certificate. Doing it as we speak. If Imgburn will not make it maybe just reset every thing back to default in Imgburn.

Hmm, just tried The Rock. While I disabled all but the movie and menus, theres still a fair few bits and bobs left like trailers and small special features which I don't seem able to remove. Could they be part of the menu structure some how?

The problem is that the ISO that is made without the Certificate file included will not play. Says unsupportable format now. I am always used to finding the Certificate file right under the BDMV file.

Just un-check the strict avchd mode and try again. I assume your player just does not recognize that structure.
Once again I assume it is a stand alone player and not a software player, correct?

Ok, unchecked Strict AVCHD and rechecked the other settings to concur with earlier thread settings. tsmuxer gives ability to cut from front and back of streams, I believe BD-Rebuilder uses tsmuxer on the last step.
Is there a way to pass a command line parm to tsmuxer to do the cuts? This is useful sometimes to eliminate long credits. I have 2 movies where credits are like 10 minutes long.
--cut-end is the parm, I believe its specified value is ## + units (i..e. --cut-end 30s).

With dvd rebuilder, it's typical(but not always) to have the credits within a single stream. I usually highly compress that, since obviously it can afford a great deal of loss. One day, I'm sure Jdobbs will implement the ability to allocate bandwidth accordingly to specified streams ;)
I prefer not cut the credits. It's informative at times :p Besides, the difference would be negligible.

Ok, I THINK I've solved the problem. I moved the BD-Rebuilder folder from Program Files to C:\ drive (didn't know about the Win7 virtualization thing) and I updated the Haali Splitter. That's all. No more x264.exe error for now...

Transformers 3 seemed rather long. But even if it were ten minutes, that'd only improve the main(or over all compression) title by 6.4%(If my math is correct) :S
But if laserfan is correct, it wouldn't even be that. The credits already have a low bitrate.

I don't think this is worth messing with if BD-RB is doing a two-pass x264 conversion, because x264 will minimize the bit-allocation to the credit sequence anyway.

I just put Dr. Strangelove through BD REB using these audio settings - Audio Settings: AC3=0 DTS=0 HD=0 Kbs=640
The audio in was Dolby True HD 5.1, and what I ended up in the final rebuild was AC3-640.
Is this just a simple case of transferring the compressed audio without processing with the metadata? And is it correct to assume that an audio re encode was not performed by BD Rebuilder?
If so, will these settings consistently give that result with Dolby True HD?

Usually an issue like you've reported is an indicator that something else has intercepted or is interfering with the CODECs provided by FFDSHOW. Make sure you remove any "codec packs" you have installed. Then uninstall and reinstall HAALI and FFDSHOW. If something has "gummed up the works" reinstallation will often fix it.

Well it was BD-25, but I was trying to reduce the size for audio. But my major question is whether there was an audio re encode. Does the AC3 640kbs already exist as part of the Dolby THD track?

Yes it does. The core of the True HD track would be 640Kbs DD5.1. Since you have "Keep HD" and "Reencode AC3" both set off and you're going to BD-25 -- your output should consist of the core of the original audio (without reencoding).

Please correct me if I am wrong... :p If there are audio file/s in the Workfiles folder that are named AUD_xxxxx_xxxx, then those audio files were reencoded. So if the AUD_xxxx_xxxx corresponds to the title in question, audio was reencoded.

The extracted core can be renamed simply to make the rebuild less complex under certain circumstances.
But generally, yes, that's the case.

Hi, thanks again for the great software
I am trying out the new blanking feature, trying to encode just the extras of a movie (with menu).
X264 keeps stopping on trying to reencode just the extras for the movie 9 (2009)
The files it gums up on are VC-1 interlaced.
I have tried with or w/o strict AVCHD
I tried using tweaks on PASS 2 but disabled that to make sure that wasn't the issue
I originally wanted an output of 3550 MB, but instead tried for DVD5 size output, i doubt it, but in case that 3550 MB was too small (original extras files are 6.34 GB)
I tried with deinterlace and all 4 settings in the ini, I tried with deinterlace unticked
I tried w/ and w/o IVTC ticked
I tried different encoding speeds
regardless of changing any of these, x264 always crashes every time it gets to the VC-1 interlaced files; I get these popups that x264 stopped working and the next one pops up as soon as i hit ok on the first.
I am working from an ISO mounted. ISO was made with AnyDVD
would it be better to try and re-rip with folders? i don't see why that would make any difference.
x264 chokes on the interlaced VC-1 files, which has been my past experience too. even when it encodes w/o stopping, they end up looking like they have been shredded.
Please help advise me as I really don't have any idea how to make this work.
here is one of the most recent log strings. I deleted the ones before that when retrying after opening.

<<-----^^^^^^---------- the last of these I realized i forgot to select this main movie for blanking again, as it needs reset after stopping/ failing
I am not sure I like that, that we need to go back and re-blank everything after changing settings or the config/ini file, or after stopping for any reason, but anyhow, here is the rest of the laatest string of these on this disc
But one thing it showed me was that x264 was starting to encode just fine on the VC-1 progressive main movie file. so I it is working fine with VC-1 as long as it isn't interlaced.
It also handles the MPEG-2, 720x480 file it encodes before the 1080 interlaced VC-1 files

@Rany
The probability is very high that your source is corrupt. Notice that other streams with the exact same characteristics are encoding successfully before the failure on that single M2TS. It's also possible but less likely that your system isn't stable. Are you overclocked?

@djmasturbeat
There are issues with HAALI and certain types of VC-1 interlaced sources in M2TS containers. BD-RB has implemented a workaround that extracts them from the original, remuxes them as an MKV, and then uses that source for encoding. It's possible some recent change has mucked that process up in some way. I'll dig around for "9" and see if I can repeat the problem.

Even at BD-5/9, the quality looks great on my big screen. I of course always default to high quality and longer builds, but it's worth it for now until I get an actual Blue Ray Burner.

Is there anyway to check if a disc doesn't need compressing after removal of audio and extras? I have a few discs that are a few GB's over a BD-R which I'm sure with a bit of tweaking and removal of some titles would be fine so I'm wondering if theres an indicator somewhere of the expected output size after editing? I know hitting go will either re-encode or not but it would be nice to tweak first to get it to the ideal size, especially with new blanking features!

I know hitting go will either re-encode or not but it would be nice to tweak first to get it to the ideal size, especially with new blanking features! That's a little hard because you have to demux the video/audio before you know the original size to any degree of accuracy -- and that is done as each M2TS is being processed. To demux the entire thing might take 30-45 minutes and use 50GB before you even start encoding.

So, if you remove certain playlists, BD-RB couldn't guess how much space could be saved based on the original file size? I seem to remember DVD-RB having some kind of space/compression indicator (although I imagine BR's are a complex beast compared to DVD)
By the way, did you see this post I made a few days ago? I've saved over the damn log since though although I can re-run the disc if need be:

Hi Friends,
Hope this isn't in the wrong thread...
At the end of the session my rebuilt BR quits in the middle of ImgBrn. I get an I/O message.
Basically, the disc stops writing and a square with a red circle X comes up that says I/O Error!
Than it says Device [0:2:0] Optiarc BD RW BD-5740H 1.00 (D:) (ATAPI)
Then some other stuff.. and it ends with
Interpretation: Invalid Address For Write
Do I have something set wrong, or is it a hardware problem, which I suspect?
(BTW, I have a picture of the message but the forum parameters are not allowing me to upload it)

@JDobbs: i know beyond the shadow of a doubt what the problem is with rany's encode. It's been preprocessed. Take a look at the source
[00:01:23] BD Rebuilder v0.39.01 (beta)
- Source: THE.PURSUIT.OF.HAPPYNESS.2006.1080P.BLU-RAY.EUR.H.264-HDMONSK
That's a pirated disc by the HDMONSK release group, there aint 1 official BD out there where the volume label is like that.
@RichardB: if IMGBurn quits in the middle of a burn the problem isnt with BDRB, its with either IMGBurn & your burner or my thoughts, your burner and the blanks you use. I've had that invalid address too a few times when i used LTH discs and told IMGB to burn directly to disc. I solved the problem by having BDRB tell IMGB to create an iso instead of burning to blank and then use that ISO to burn it to disc. Never had a problem that way
What kind of blanks are you using

As there's no way to keep DTS-Express audio, the secondary video stream often becomes useless. Is there a way to tell BD Rebuilder that I don't need that secondary video, so it skips muxing it back?

@djmasturbeat
There are issues with HAALI and certain types of VC-1 interlaced sources in M2TS containers. BD-RB has implemented a workaround that extracts them from the original, remuxes them as an MKV, and then uses that source for encoding. It's possible some recent change has mucked that process up in some way. I'll dig around for "9" and see if I can repeat the problem.
should i try the "mkv" instead of "264" extension option?
I didn't try that.
Well, I am going to try that, if I am understanding you correctly, the
MKV_INTERMEDIATE=1
switch may help?
I will report back how I fare on my system.
For the most part I don't usually have issues with BD-RB. I don't use it a whole lot, but it is usually pretty darn stable overall (it's betas are more stable than some "stable" main releases of other software)
Other than many interlaced VC-1 problems (which I attribute to x264), the only other things I remember I have ever had annoying issues with are a few slightly oversized discs just barely too big for BD25; some up to 24.1 GB final (those hurt to kill after doing on the slowest encoding speed; recently one of those I had a full backup of Crumb from the Criterion Collection, I was luckily able to get down to BD25 by removing a color pattern test and wrong Region Code m2ts using Clown BD BD Copier afterward; whew, very lucky since it took 1.5 - 2 days on an i7 system, didn't want to flush that :P)
EDIT:
I am testing on fastest encode speed to see if i can get this to work at all
now I am getting a window pop up that says
BDRB experienced an error 2809 [23;40;28]
PredictAndEncode() 00053 2809
and when I hit the OK button it puts into the log that it was user aborted.
This is happening in the MPEG-2 file before any of the VC-1 files.
I tried w/ and w/o IVTC
and w/ and w/o deinterlacing
i tried with strict AVCHD and without
I would like to include it, too, is it usually a problem to run an MPEG-2 720x480 interlaced file thru with mkv intermed. turned on? It was processing fine in the previous runs where the VC-1 1080 interlaced were failing
nevermind, I tried again, this time, for now, just blanking that MPEG2 480i extra
i am back to x264 crashing again
but I am still curious why the 480i in MPEG2 was having problems with the mkv intermediate option, and if this is usual.
for the record here is new log string:

BD-RB does the MKV output automatically when it needs to, you don't have to set anything.

I'm using "Titan" BD-R 25gb 4x. I'll try the ISO idea.
Thanks for the response,

Never heard of that brand, very likely they're the issue. Get quality media like Verbatim BD-R's (not the LTH type), and the problem should disappear

I've heard of titan. Haven't bought them before though. I've bought LTH verbs, Ritek BD-R's, Digistor BD-R's(CMCMAG), Taiyo Yuden LTH 4X BD-R's(Excellent discs), and Optical quantum(PHilips). Haven't had too many troubles. Riteks don't work in every player properly though. The Digistor discs seem to act funny lately. But I think it's my Burner :( Today it had to retry multiple times, and ultimately failed. I've had it retry before, and succeeded. I ripped "Watchmen" to my Hard drive today, and then tried the same disc again, and it worked perfectly. I figure it needed a little exercise first :p Probably get a Pioneer in the near future. Heard good things about them. My current is an LG-WH10LS30 for the record. Good reading drive, but I think burning may be cut short.
I don't create ISO images. Unless the industry disc is single layer. Habit with DVD's. Imgburn acknowledges the BDMV folder, and takes the appropriate action when burning folders :p E.g. UDF 2.5

BD-RB does the MKV output automatically when it needs to, you don't have to set anything.
FWIW, the included MPC also crashes previewing the 1080i VC-1 videos. 1080p VC-1 main feature and 480i MPEG2 preview fine.
not sure if this matters for the reencode, but just some more info

I use Titans all the time for DVD-9... they're decent quality and I've never had an issue. Haven't tried the BD-25's yet, but I noticed they're under $1 each at Meritline (http://www.meritline.com/titan-t9892589-blu-ray-bd-r-media-disc-4x-25gb-white-printable---p-68047.aspx), so I probably will on my next purchase.

Yah, when I preview the interlaced sources, they're green. I could care less though :pPreviewing never works for those. The combination of HAALI, FFDSHOW, and MPC can't handle them in an M2TS container. I think it's a HAALI issue -- just because they play back normally when converted to an MKV container.
