In SETUP set "Do not convert DTS to AC3" and "Do not reencode AC3" check boxes.
do these settings also apply for movie only dvd-9 conversions?
i thought they were meant for blu-ray only.

do these settings also apply for movie only dvd-9 conversions?
i thought they were meant for blu-ray only. Yes, they apply. But only the core (non-HD) portion is retained for BD-5/9 (the "down-to-dts" or "down-to-ac3" flags in TSMUXER are used when the audio is demuxed from the original stream). Also, if you have "Strict AVCHD" selected there may have to be a conversion since DTS and some high bitrates are not supported in AVCHD ("Strict AVCHD" only applies to BD-9/5).
So there are some things to watch for -- for example, if you choose a movie-only BD-5/9 backup, and have not selected "strict AVCHD", and the original contains DTS -- you may be creating a movie-only disc that is NOT AVCHD compliant and will not work on some players because DTS is not a part of the AVCHD standard.
The best recommendation is to always keep "Strict AVCHD" selected and convert to AC3 for movie-only BD-5/9.
Hmmm... I should probably set "Strict AVCHD" as the default... I was going to do that a long time ago and forgot...
[Edit] One other note. LPCM is always converted to AC3 on BD-5/9, because of its size.

Check to make sure you have VC-1 set to "wmv9" and AVC set to "libavcodec" in FFDSHOW
Thank you for the quick reply. I changed VC-1 to wmv9 (it had been disabled) but still no luck.
What is so extremely curious is that all of my backups are processed identically (ripped to HD, then movie only ISO is made with clown_BD, then burned to BD-25 if small enough, or shrunk through BD_RB if not), and BD_RB will reencode most but not all.
' doesn't make sense does it?

' doesn't make sense does it?All I can say is that when I take it straight from the original BD, I have yet to have had a failure in several hundred reencodes... that's why I don't support reencoding of preprocessed sources.
Have you tried the original directly into BD-RB with Movie-Only selected? That seems like a lot simpler solution. It will also do a direct (no reencode) copy if the movie will fit.

Jdobbs,
sorry for the delay. I'm getting the below error on a couple movies.
http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k466/joshrohlik/BDRB/Error.jpg
Is this 2nd audio track that I can't de-select the cause of this?

Again, thanks in advance...

It means the combination of the kept audio and the PGS tracks is too big to allow any room for video on the chosen target size.

well is there any way to deselect the 2nd audio and video? I can't get it to x out. The 5 movies that give me this error all have this 2nd audo/video. All my other movies worked perfectly. Maybe just a bad rip batch?

I have to believe there is something wrong elsewhere (in your config), because this isn't happening to others... but try adding this to the "[Options]" area of your INI and see if it helps:

thx in advance I honestly can't tell the difference. I thought ffmpeg-mt would be faster because it is multithreaded -- but the speed seems to be about the same on my system.

Problem solved;
I ran BD_RB each time after playing with various ffdshow settings and discovered that switching VC-1 to libavcodec allowed BD_RB to process the problem videos.
I do not know why this works, though I'm sure you do Mr. Dobbs, but I ran a second file just to ensure that the first successful run was not a fluke. It was not and all is well.
Thanks again, and I hope this helps out other users.

I have absolutely no doubt that you are correct. I can only respond that the first two of five problem sources have both played perfectly, with video quality on par with when VC-1 was set to disabled for the "non-problem" movies.

I'm having problems with Bleak House disk 1, which is VC-1 interleaved. Has anyone managed to back this up to BD 25?
Thanks. There should be no discs that can't be backed up -- if the system is configured properly. The only exception would be DTS-Express secondary audio -- and even with that, the disc will still backup without the secondary audio.

Any suggestions? Well you haven't posted your INI files, the log from the encode, even a hint as to what error you're getting, or what symptoms are related to your problem. So the answer would have to be "No".

Okay....
I'll run the re-encode again over the weekend and post the logs....
The only problem I have ever had has been with VC-1 interleaved source. I thought it might have been a "known" issue with a fix or work-around.

Marty.Hmm.. it says it failed to MKVMERGE only a minute after the encode was supposed to have started... that seems to indicate that the source is corrupted somehow. MKVMERGE is necessary to convert field-based interlaced streams to a format that AVISYNTH can decode. What was used to rip the source?

jdobbs,
yes, I aborted the process. Only after the PGS error displayed. If I continued, the finished size at least of the last one I did like that was around 17Gb, far past the BD9 target size. So yes, the encode failed because I did not select yes to continue.

Okay, I've used AnyDVD for a long time. There is something funny going on with Bleak House disk one, it won't rip to the hard drive but AnyDVD will create an ISO image from the disk. The other two disks will rip without issue to the hard drive. I took the set back and exchanged them for a new set, exactly the same problem with the new disk one. I have ripped plenty of blu-rays before this problem and several after, so I'm sure my setup is fine and my blu-ray drive (GGW-H20L - YL05) is okay. The only other thing I can think of is that there is a manufacturing defect with this disk set.

Hi. I started using BD Rebuilder a while back and it worked GREAT! Awesome program. I upgraded to the later versions including the latest one and now I can not encode anything. I get errors left and right. Does anyone have a good combination of version numbers that is working for them?

Life would be a lot simpler if people weren't obsessed with upgrading FFDSHOW and HAALI every 10 minutes -- at least give it time to get some bug reports in. You have to realize that those programs are susceptible to bugs also.
Also -- steer clear of "codec packs" unless you are a glutton for punishment. Every codec anyone could possibly ever want or need is included in FFDSHOW.
I am using FFDSHOW r3133 (http://www.jdobbs.net/freeware/ffdshow_rev3133_20091117_clsid.exe), Haali Media Splitter v1.9.42.1 (http://www.jdobbs.net/freeware/MatroskaSplitter.exe), AVISYNTH v2.57 (http://www.jdobbs.net/freeware/Avisynth_257.exe) with BD-RB v0.31.05. No issues -- ever. Please note also, that these are the versions that are linked on the first page of this thread. I put them there for a reason.
I upgraded to the later versions including the latest one and now I can not encode anything. I get errors left and right. You've done something else too. Upgrading to the latest BD-RB doesn't cause the errors you're getting.

Mariachidude;
If you have installed any other codec packs, or some other video editing software, you have probably changed your ffdshow/haali/avisynth settings.
I would also not use the latest haali update, but the one on the first page of this thread. Same for ffdshow.
I would uninstall ffdshow/haali/avisynth, reboot and install them over. You might also install avisynth 2.57 rather than 2.58. Reboot again, set up ffdshow properly, and then try again.

The PGS/Audio is too large.
You have to choose not to keep something (audio/pgs) because that error is telling you that what you have chosen takes up so much space that there is no remaining room for the video. Alternatively, you can choose a larger output format (like BD-25).
It isn't an error. It is physics.
The "trick" of editing the registry isn't related to the pgs/audio size. I would suggest, however, that you "untrick" it so BD-RB can make the proper settings. You'll note that when BD-RB makes changes to your registry (after asking your permission, by the way) it also creates a file for resetting them to their original state... it would be nice if others were that thoughtful.

Thanks for the replies! I will try reinstalling everything. I may have some codec packs installed. I will fix this and get back to you. Thanks everyone!

thx man but its pretty weird! cause im using bd-25 never did a bd5/bd9 always backup almost 100 of my bluray to bd25, thats why i thought it was an error caused by the register trick! so even with bd25 the audio/video pgs error, it means that i dont have any room for video?
btw check this out with some **:

Mariachidude;
EDIT: Oops, looks like jdobbs has responded too!
I unstalled ffdshow/haali/avisynth and all codec packs. I then rebooted and reinstalled ffdshow/haali/avisynth. I still come up with:
-----------------------
[21:42:11] BD Rebuilder v0.31.05 (beta)
- Source: CORALINE
- Input BD size: 42.78 GB
- Approximate total content: [04:31:43.745]
- Target BD size: 22.46 GB
- Windows Version: 5.2 [3790]
- Audio Settings: AC3=1 DTS=1 HD=1 Kbs=640
[21:42:13] PHASE ONE, Encoding
- [21:42:13] Extracting A/V streams [VID_00078]
- [21:42:17] Reencoding: VID_00078 (1 of 11)
- Encode failed. Retrying.
- Encode failed. Retrying.
- Reached retry limit. Aborting.
[21:42:34] - Failed video encode, aborted
Where can I find the correct settings for FFDSHOW? I found some recommended correction in these threads but still no progress. Can someone list what they should be? Thanks for helping
