I haven't been following NVEnc, since my NVIDIA video card is older. How do you use it now? Via FFMPEG?

I believe it can be used thru ffmpeg or by NVEncC, a command line app by rigaya

For comparison

On my new current rig a BD50 to bd25 2d takes around 4-6hrs with bdrb. NVenc with CloneBD does that in 15min's with my GTX 1080.

Doesn't CloneBD use FFMPEG in the background?

Depending on where you look you'll see it stated that CloneBD is powered by libav or ffmpeg. Elaborate Bytes' page on the product says libav. RedFox's page say ffmpeg. Looking in the application forlder you'll see "drone" files related to both.

Oh I know, it's just that under video settings encoding and decoding is done by hardware (though I believe it says 'cuda' in settings instead of the newer NVEnc) .

Sent from my Nexus 6P with TapatalkIs the GTX 1080 a Maxwell GPU? The NVEnc writeup I saw says you need Maxwell for H.265 encoding.

GTX 10-series cards are Pascal GPUs, so they are good for 10 bit HEVC encoding

GTX 10-series cards are Pascal GPUs, so they are good for 10 bit HEVC encodingAhhh... I wasn't thinking. I guess I misread and it is a minimum of maxwell (I just haven't been keeping up on this stuff). Has anyone tested a GTX 1050? Is it good enough for HEVC encoding? Any minimum amount of memory? I'm thinking about upgrading -- but I need to keep my cost down.

Does the 10 series encodes support B frames when HEVC encoding? Some reading I saw seems to imply it doesn't.

Plenty people use the 1050 in combination with clbd. Though I'd recommend perhaps posting on the RedFox forum section for clbd and tag Pete for the b-frames. He's pretty knowledgeable in that area.

The memory doesn't matter that much I believe, it's the 'cuda/NVEnc' cores that matter that determines the speed.

So if I could wish for 1 thing with bdrb it's HW accelerated de-/encoding.

No
But if compression is to BD25 it is pretty good, your eyes are the final answer on that

Edit
I can take a 2 hour+ (70GB +) movie using AC3 640 Kbps audio to 15 or 16 GB file
The extra bit rate given to the movie should make it good for normal viewing
Advantage is encode in about 30 to 40 minutes with my settings

Picture uality with NVEnc definitely is worse than with software encoding. I did some UHD encoding with DVDFab using CUDA and the resulting video files have much more blocking and compression artefacts, especially in dark Scenes, than compared to encodes with x265. So CUDA/NVEnc is a good thing for testing, but if you care about picture quality I'd always prefer x265, no matter how long encoding takes with it.

Ch3vr0n

X265 is all ENCODING library. Just like x264. It has ZERO impact on quality software encoding or hardware encoding. Hardware only speeds things up. Quality is determined by the level of compression you choose (and in case of cli the switches you select)

Dear Jdobbs, at this time I just cant donate (I really want to) but my budget dont let me do it, but I just like to say thank you for doing it, I really appreciate your work and pacience to respond questions

And so dar we know you are making a new release that includes support for 4k, please dont get me wrong, it is possible thanks to you, I just wish to know more or less when you think new release will come?

Have a nice week!!

CUDA encoding results were not that good,
But NVEnc is not CUDA based, it is VPU based
If your encoding app is still using the CUDA cores for encoding, then yeah, quality wouldn't be that good.
Quality, as Ch2vr0n said, also depends on your settings

I have 2 1050s - a second hand 2 Gb one I recently put into an oldish pc (8 years old) and another 4Gb one in a new gaming laptop - both perform the same. With either DVDFab, or CloneBD, the time for a typical UHD ranges from 20 to 40 mins, depending on the length. For discs of around 60 to 70 Gb, where I tend to lose the ATMOS, compressing to bd-25 produces discs which I struggle to tell the difference from the original. As you get up to 90 to 100 Gb then you do occasionally see artefacts, and I tend to go for bd-50 with the ATMOS.

Strange issue. I'm authoring some Blu-rays that will also contain some 480i videos extracted from a DVD. The problem is that the audio is leading the video by a second. The original files are fine. If I manually run tsmuxer on the MKV file, the audio is correct. But, the m2ts file that BDRB creates has the issue. So, I went looking for the meta file. Very tricky, in that I have to abort the process during the integration stage and not say OK to the dialog, so that the meta file will hang around.

Here is the content of the meta file:
MUXOPT --no-pcr-on-video-pid --new-audio-pes --blu-ray --vbr --custom-chapters=00:00:00.000;00:07:18.471
--vbv-len=500 --start-time=27000000
V_MPEG-2,"E:\BD-REBUILDER\WORK\TEMPIMPORT\Video.track_1.MPV", fps=29.97
A_AC3,"E:\BD-REBUILDER\WORK\TEMPIMPORT\Audio.track_2.AC3", timeshift= -1mn 5s, lang=eng
The plot thickens. For some reason there is that large audio timeshift, yet the actual shift is 1 sec. The audio should not be shifted at all. The H.264 MKV 1080p files are just fine.

As a test, I removed the timeshift and ran the BDRB tsmuxer using the modified meta file and all was well.

What do I have to do to stop the audio shift?

Yeah, Tried with Ghostbusters (the original one), The results are awful, even using BD-50 as a target size. Software encoding with x265 is way better but more time consuming.

Software encoding------->Hardware encoding.

ET movie with CloneBD and hardware acceleration enabled. 7(CUDA and Highest quality).
The bitrate at 29.37mbps, and after 40 minutes ... job done.
I'm happy with my MSI GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4G OC GPU.

Have a nice week!!I was hoping this week -- but I've run into another problem. I've found that, while now in sync, my full-film backups are running into halt-and-resume problems at about the halfway point (on at least one film). I think it may be related to the muxing.

I would have been happy if it had worked so fast, but it doesn´t matter for me to wait a bit longer for such a good software. You really set the bar high for it with BDrebuilder :D

Fixed: Audio Issue

Got it working, but not sure why. To get around the issue, I took the TS file and made a new MKV file, with the audio delayed 1 sec. The result: the 1 sec delay stayed. So, I tried the original MKV file and again got the 1 sec advancement.

In frustration, I took the TS file and remade the MKV file, without any delay and all was well (the meta file had a 4ms shift). I made the original MKV file with an older VideoReDo and the new MKV with a newer version.

No idea what BDRB was looking at in the MKV file to cause the original problem, even though the file plays via VLC, and VRD, without any audio issues.

That begs the question, if the audio delay is -1mn 5s, why did it actually become 1 sec?

Something tells me that the library that VRD used had a bug and put in a delay value that was actually wrong. Using VLC, the files played without any kind of sync error.

I'm redoing all of the files with a later version of VRD.

Interesting problem.

Of the two most recent, one only had 21 characters and spaces, the other was 19 characters and the only "special" characters were [].

In order to keep Atmos audio is this correct understanding:
- TrueHD track must be selected
- Keep HD audio is selected in settings page
- Full Backup is selected

Is that correct?

@ jfcarbel RE: Too keep Atmos audio is this correct understanding:

Is that correct? Those must be checked but you don't have to do a "Full" backup, you can do a movie only, BUT it must be a BD25 backup. You can keep just the "Core" 1500k DTS if you do a DVD+R or DVD+R DL backup by leaving the "Keep HD Audio" checked. Backup to a DVD+R doesn't leave enough space to keep the ATMOS or TrueHD lossless audio.

Thanks was not sure movie only would work as I seem to see some prior posts indicating full backup. Yes, I understand the space atmos requires so a BD 25 or 50 is required.

Thanks.

Try deleting (or temporarily renaming) the BDREBUILDER.INI file and see what effect that has.

Ok, I can try that. Nothing special with my system. I don't do any encodes or anything like that, just shrink what I think doesn't need to be a BD50. FWIW, both DVDRB and DVDShrink work (and yes, I know diff codecs and diff files structures :) )

Even with a ONE letter path, it is still generating the same error. Deleting the INI, it is still generating the same error, and setting BDRB to not do ANY reduction results in the same error :(

Also, I do have Haali and ffdshow installed - and they are running when BDRB runs, if that is of any help.

Ok, I just tried one of the same titles on a clean system that has never been used for anything but web surfing, and got the same error. :(

I have noticed that you haven't posted an (Inspect) log, which is where I ALLWAYS start when I have any problems. It may show you some problem that's not obvious. Also I don't guess it makes any difference BUT I always use a different "Source" and "Working" drive. I find it doesn't bog my CPU down as much when it's reading and writing to the same one. I don't guess you're running any VM's or network drives are you?

FWIW, this is on an X99 system 6750k, 64gb RAM, and an SSD.

No, no VMs running. I've not seen an INSPECT log file - if you mean the BD-REBUILDER.LOG file, I did post that -

It could be a hidden folder with a bad name on the disc, maybe?

Interesting that AVISYNTH and HAALI say they aren't the recommended versions, as they are the official versions from the websites. Anything I can try? :)

Nope, checked and no hidden folders, no odd named folders - just what one would normally expect :(

Nope, checked and no hidden folders, no odd named folders - just what one would normally expect :(Yes. Read the first post of this thread... and download the correct versions. I doubt that has anything to do with your problem, though. But you never know.

CopyDirStructure() is a very simple routine consisting of 33 lines of code. It simply steps through the folder structure on the source and re-creates it on the destination. Somewhere in that process a path is presented that kicks off that error. The error isn't coming from BD-RB, it is coming from the operating system. BD-RB is only reporting it. It's possible that the path may be too long, as well as having bad characters in it. You'd have to look through the source structure to find out.

Ok, ffddshow has a lot of options to select when installing it - just take the default ones? Or are there specifics (some are not selected). Thanks!
