Did you make sure that IMPORT_FOLDER=p shows up in the options of the configuration (ini) file

omegaman7

Yes, I did :) But clearly, it still needs a temporary folder? Jdobbs?

On my system I just added IMPORT_FOLDER=D:\ and BD_RB creates the IMPORT folder on my D drive every time. I added it to the options and not the path section.

Have you watched it in real time? A temporary import folder appears in the working directory, before it relocates it to IMPORT.

I believe that you are correct, I have seen it. However the import folder becomes the new source folder instead of the default which would have source and working on the same drive

Not really complaining. Because it does help ;)

Interesting turn of events. Sorry about the double post, but I wanted to be sure this was seen by all.

I'm currently working on the most problematic DVD Title(Journey to the center of the earth). EVERY encode has failed, resulting in stuttering playback. Here's what I know. TMT5 will play the ripped raw mpeg-2 files, without fault. MPC-HC will not play the .VOB files properly, but it will play the DVD folder properly. VERY interesting. It's looking like a decoding issue. I'm currently running DGDecNV frameservice, to see if it eliminates the issue.

Wow, it's already looking promising. The encode rate is stupid fast LOL!

@omegaman7
I might have that DVD, depending on which version you have, and if you wish I can use my system to help you test or compare. Just post your ini file.

Are you still using the 570 in your sig? If yes, you should see a Kepler card go.

It just dawned on me that your logs state that H.264 encoder has stopped working. Is this what the actual error report says?

I tried my friends "The Mentalist" S1 D1, Ep 1 with Deinterlace and IVTC active, to 720x480p MP4 and VLC shows jerky frames. "Looks funny! Like everyone is doing a strange version of Max Headroom!" I laughed for a bit as my friend has never seen video outside smooth motion.. I'm trying with 44.09 since I haven't updated my MacBook Pro's BD-RB to newest yet. I figured, meehhh....try it and see. :D Soon, after some more tests, I'll rip to HDD and repeat all tests. If all goes well, or not, then I'll also use 44.14.

If you have DGDecNV installed, I recommend using that frameserver. (At least for this sort of problem, it's not always the best option).

DGDecNV corrected the issue for me, regarding (Journey to the center of the earth (2008) "Brendan Fraser"). VERY interesting. So clearly, it WAS a decoding issue. "Without a paddle" ALSO had the problem. I suspect DGDecNV would correct that one as well.

Yes, I'm still using the GTX 570. I sold my GTX 260, so now I'm stuck with it LOL! :S I desperately want an update, but I'm broke, and an invention I'm working on takes priority at the moment.

I would like to use DGDecNV. However, my ATI (before ATI and AMD joined) 5750 board is still doing very well (Portal, Tomb Raider, and more). I have a new Mac Pro in my sights since the WWDC, so....I may not go nVidia for a while.

That aside, 44.14, when Deinterlace and IVTC are both active, which I leave them both usually, produces a Jerky Mentalist..hahhaha! I'm Laughing a lot as I type this.. If I disable IVTC then the MP4 is smooth from the Optical Drive from today's tests. More later..

It would be very odd to see an HD film source that has telecining -- so IVTC should have no effect.

Ahhh, I see I didn't make that clear enough. I'm testing with The Mentalist S1D1 Ep1 DVD Imported. I agree about HD telecining.

For the DVD video, if Deinterlace is dis/enabled the speeds change with CRF MP4 output. However, if IVTC is active with Deinterlace on/off, the speeds are Always very slow. I've notice no speed change between 10 and 50 CRF. Is this suppose to be "Normal"? If IVTC is disabled, I notice speed differences. IVTC isn't needed with this DVD. Perhaps you may want to check that? BD-RB 44.14 is set to output to Alternate iPad MP4 SD 720..128 AAC..your default profile.

For fun, English Subtitles are enabled, but VLC isn't showing that they're in the container. FYI, I haven't, yet, had iTunes transfer any files to my iPad 2 to testing.

If IVTC is enabled, it is only used if the disc being processed is telecined. I'm certain about that -- because I scan for the flags myself. The exception is if you have IVTC_480i set. That flag tells BD-RB to inverse telecine regardless of the source. It should never be set unless you have a hard telecined source.

It's normal to see a speed drop when IVTC is being processed.

An MP4 can't handle PGC subtitles.

AmigaFuture

Right, but same speeds 10 to 50 with IVTC processing? Hmm..? That doesn't make sense to me, but...okay.

I haven't set IVTC_480i.. I'll try that for fun. There's a --slight-- jerking effect when playing with VLC and QuckTime with Snow Leopard. Mmm...trying to find why.

I don't doubt your certin-ness about it...I'm merely wanting to know why it's speeds aren't different. Not anything major. :D I'm pesky that way, always want to know Why...hehe.

Which is why between 10 to 50 with IVTC in Setup active looked the same to me. Hmm...interesting. I'm still not 100% confident how Soft/Hard Telecine functions, I can See visually...but..still somewhat elusive with my reasoning. Thanks for the reply.

Telecining was just a way to convert films (which originate at 24fps) to NTSC video (which is played at 30fps [actually 29.97fps because of timing involved related to blanking]).

In normal telecining you have a 23.976fps source -- but there are flags in the picture headers that tell it to repeat fields so that it adds one frame for every 4. The flags are read by the decoder and it outputs as 29.97fps. One in every 5 frames is manufactured from two of the originals.

Hard telecining works the same way -- except the frame insertion is done before the video is presented to the encoder. So you have a 29.97fps source that is encoded. The picture is essentially the same, but no flags are present in the picture headers. It also means the encoder has to encode 25% more frames, resulting in poorer compression.

When you have to inverse telecine a hard-telecined source, the decoding software has to figure out which of each 5 frames is the "manufactured" one so it can be removed. It does it by looking for repeated fields. On a soft telecined source, that frame doesn't actually exist yet, so you can just remove the flags, which is called "removing pulldown", and end up with a 23.976 source.

Just to complicate things, there are also sources that are a mixture of telecined and true interlaced video (recorded at 29.97fps). That's when it gets really messy.

Do you have coreAVC or any other AVC codecs installed? Last time I saw a similar message was when I was using BD_RB as a stress tester to check my O.C. The message I recall seeing, if I remember correctly, said "x264 or x264.exe" has stopped working. Note that it referred to x264 not h264.

That's a bit more clear than a lot of guides have seen. Some of it I already got, but other parts..not. Thank you for that share.

I now understand why I was seeing a slight "jerky" video with "The Mentalist" S1 D1 Ep1.. In Alternate MP4 (iPad) AAC...the DVD Episode isn't being rerendered to 23.976. None of the Hidden Options I've used or combinations are creating a 23.976 MP4. To verify it's possible I used HandBrake to create a smooth 23.976 Detelecined MP4. Is there something broken in that Alternate Output, perhaps?

Oh, I meant to let you know is seems it Is possible to have PGSs within an MP4, it's just that iPad (2)'s software doesn't know how to deal with it so it display...only. No turning it off. Hah! A recent version of HandBrake created the file. I saw PGS was selectable, so I played.

Do you really think 0 is ODD?? :D
PULLDOWN_720=n n = 0/1 - 0=ODD (default) - if set to "1", use pulldown for 29.97->59.94 conversion on 720p

Hello
is there any way to activate with bdrebuilder ati stream? or only works cuda nvidia? There's no support for ATI stream as yet. ATI, I believe, does support OpenCL, however, and that can be enabled via X264 with this:

TWEAK_PASS_ONE=--opencl
TWEAK_PASS_TWO=--opencl

I mean, you should uncheck "use lavf internal x264 for decodind" in the setup menu and

TWEAK_PASS_ONE=--opencl
TWEAK_PASS_TWO=--opencl

in bdrebuilder.ini
correct?

TWEAK_PASS_ONE=--opencl
TWEAK_PASS_TWO=--opencl

in bdrebuilder.ini
correct?I'm not sure LAVF selection is required. Someone else may be able to give more info on its internal workings. But I can say that turning it on with Directshow enabled is actually much slower than Directshow alone when I try it with my Nvidia card.

Hi!

Thank you for you work. I like the simplicity of your application, but unfortunately most of the times i can't use it. I have a sound delaying problem, which i don't know what causes.
The inspect exe says everything is OK and i use the recommended ffdshow version.
Last time i tried (version 0.44.14), i picked the high quality setting CRF, and targeted BD25 option. There were no audio reencode, i kept the HD audio too.

What do you suggest?

Thanks!

For the past few versions of BD Rebuilder, I haven't been able to do BD to DVD conversions when I include subtitles. When no subtitles are present, everything works fine. I've tried it with 4-5 different BDs and I always get the same error at the very end. This is what the log looks like. This was for 'James and the Giant Peach' but I also got the same behabior a few days ago with 'Silver Linings Playbook'.

Thanks!Check for CODEC packs and other CODEC installations. If they are there, remove them. They often intercept or interfere with encoding and are almost always the cause of this type of issue. It's helpful if you post a log when you report a problem. It's hard to "just guess" what you're experiencing and what settings are in use.

@jdobbs

I don't use codec packs. I use mpc-hc + madvr + lav filters for movies, and nothing else. Ofcourse avisynth, haali and ffdshow are intalled too.
My problem is more precisely is that all of the soundtracks are delayed by a couple of seconds.

What kind of log would be helpful?
The one that is displayed by bd_rebuilder at the end of the job?

Sorry i wasn't aware of this. I edited it out.

It means i can't get help with my problem regarding bd rebuilder? Sorry, but I only support bug reports that are against original BDs. It's almost impossible to debug an issue that is the result of preprocessing. I have no idea whether the source is good. In my experience I have found that most issues (actually almost all) reported on preprocessed sources are the result of the preprocessing rather than a bug in BD-RB.

@ tiamat911

I just did a DVD-5 conversion from BD using a test disc -- and it worked correctly. I don't have "James and the Giant Peach" -- so I'll do another test against "Silver Linings Playbook". But so far it seems everything is executing as it should.

You may want to try removing BD-RB, AVISYNTH, HAALI, and FFDSHOW and reinstall them all from scratch.

Hi ! Thanks for the quick reply ! I tried that, also making sure I rebooted my PC between uninstalls and installs, and also making sure I downloaded the tools using the links provided by you and I get the exact same results. It's wierd since I've been using your software for approximately 2 years now and about half of the time I use it for BD to DVD conversion with subtitles and never had any issues. Everything seems to be working fine, it converts the subtitles, multiplexes the audio and video and stops when trying to stream the subs in... It's the same thing whether I rip with AnyDVD or DVDFab. Should I try uninstalling and reinstalling again ?

With 'James and the Giant Peach' :

I'll see if it is the way I pass the information or if it is SPUMUX itself that is the source of the issue. If it isn't the former -- I'll have to add some code to prevent the use of the "&" in acceptable pathnames.

@tiamat911

Ok, I have it. The problem is that the "&" (ampersand) has a special meaning in XML. SPUMUX uses an XML descriptor as input to the muxing. So the XML interpreter had an issue when it saw it in the path name. I'll need to modify my code to look for an "&" in the path and change it to an "&" or a numeric character reference.

When I posted that last post, I lunched a new converting job with a different destination folder. I was out for a few hours and when I came back (just now), I saw that my job finished without any errors and I also saw your replies... and then it came to me that I started to have this issue when I completely re-organised my hard drive/folders and change the name of my BD/DVD workfolder from simply 'DVD' to 'BD & DVD'

I'm happy I could contribute and I'm also happy that you asked my to post my .INI file since it's what made me realise that the & could be the probleme...

Thanks again for your help, quick replies, great patience... and thanks for that great piece of software !
