I am trying to back up The Lord of the Rings trilogy in movie only mode on Verbatim BD-R 25GB....if I have BD-rebuilder in normal priorty with the high quality (default) mode it is going to take around 12 hours to encode....if I change it to high speed BD-25 mode it cuts 10 hours off the encode time....what advantage does one get by taking an extra 10 hours in the high quality mode ( better picture quality or sound quality ) and is high quality mode necessary if backing up on BD-R 25G? Thanks in advance for your reply.

x264 is pretty amazing, so you can be pretty sure it will look good either way. But it is up to you and your eyes, playback system, etc.. to ultimately decide.
High quality mode does make a difference, but a three hour movie to BD25 will probably look great with a lower setting. Try the first one at the faster setting, burn to BD-RE, watch on your play back system and compare with the original disc. There is probably no better way to know but to view it, and since your decision is the most important one, let your own eyes be the judge!

Thanks in advance for your reply. As Capsbackup said, it's up to you. I personally don't think you'll see much difference if any. BD-25 has about 3 times as much space as a BD-9, which means you bitrate is going to be 3x greater. At that bitrate the enhancements involved in the higher quality mode just aren't going to be as pronounced.

I've just updated the first post of this thread with a link to the newest beta release of BD-RB (v0.33.07). Changes for this release:
- Corrected an issue in which frames could be lost and a "stutter" could be seen between segments of a seamlessly branched film when doing a full backup.Just tried Toy Story again as I was having this problem with stuttering right after the menu starts playing, and also at the beginning of the movie just before the titles when Andy's sister throws Mr. Potato Head to the floor from her crib. It's not as bad as before but is still noticeable. Don't know if you can further adjust to prevent the stutter, but thought I'd report my findings. Thanks again for the great program...

I have backed up the first two Lord of the Rings, using the settings outlined in my post above....each one took less than four hours from start to finish, and just as advertised I can not tell any difference in the picture or sound quality between the back up, and the original. I have an 82 inch Mitsubishi DLP 1080P TV with 7.1 DTS-HD surround sound, which was used to test, and my eyes nor ears can tell absolutely no difference.
An amazing program took 39GB down to 23GB without a noticeable loss of quality....hard to believe it is free....I guess a donation is in order.

No irony involved. There is no way for BD-RB to know which MPLS is the main feature -- so it has to assume the longest one is (which is correct 99.99% of the time). There is already an option to view the stream so you know which is being encoded (right click on the stream), and to change it (on the MODE menu).
Interesting that the "making of" is longer than the film. What kind of egocentric director spends more time talking about how he decided to tell a story -- than the actual telling of the story itself?
Wooooh ! Nice option ! will try it right away !
= )
:thanks:

What are you using for playback? You have to be really careful in these reports if you are using a software player -- as they are prone to creating stutter on their own...
I can tell you that I've done both Toy Story movies within the last few weeks -- and neither "stutters".

Actually that was fixed in v0.33.06:- Updated the audio AVS so that sample rates and sample
sizes that are not compatible with AFTEN AC3 output are
converted before being sent to the encoder. This fixes
some issues that cause audio encoding failures.
It didn't work - same problem and TSmuxer still reports an unsupported file format if you try and read in the M2TS. I also noted that it had a audio/pgs sizing issue on a later file, and it waited for a response - wasn't there a fix in an earlier version where it would automatically continue after a length of time?

When setting WEIGHTP=1 in .ini file the output always have wpredp set at zero instead of 2. Using latest mediainfo to confirm this. Went back up to version 33.05 with the same results. Am I missing something? Did some tests on x.264 version 1602 and noticed this. Also went back up to version 1542 of x.264 with the same results.
Thanks

ThanksPlease note that some blu-ray players fail with "weightp=2" -- they probably shouldn't, but they do. So I don't recommend ever setting that flag. But -- when you do set it, the default is used for the selected preset (except for certain ALTERNATE encoding selections, where it is set to "0" as a requirement).
The only quality setting on the menu that would set it to "2" would be "High Quality (Default)" (with WEIGHTP=1 in the INI file).
What quality setting are you using?

@jdobbs
Thanks for the reply. I know this is not a good setting for all blu-ray players. Since the new OPPO-BDP83 software this was fixed as the problem was noticed many threats ago. I always use "Movie Only" with High Quality (Default) output to a DVD-9. This always produces a 2 pass encode for me which I prefer. In this case, with the flag set, should weightp not be equal to 2, as was previous the case? If not, how would I manage to achieve this?
I see you have edited your post since I last read it. Yes, in the above mentioned scenario with the flag set, weightp=0, which was not the case in previous builds before 33.05. Did not check until when, but I presume since the "automatic" selection was introduced.

Hiho, i have a little question (sorry for my bad englisch but im from germany)
At First, Great work "jdobbs" i love BD Rebuilder, its a really great tool !!! Best tool for me in 2009/2010 !! :D
and i backup-ed many Bds with it, without problems ( I always burn on BD-25 )... but... lately i tried Sherlock Holmes... i used anydvd like ever.. then start BD RB and load the directory (on HDD) in... normally its one Big Vid stream like 16GB up to 45GB or so like transformers.. but now with sherlock holmes i see very much little parts of the vid.. what can i do? i see this structure too in Blueray´s like "BRÜNO" or "Wall-E"..... they are many single parts and in only one of the parts i can choose the audio...but if i let BD-RB work with a blueray that has this structure.. and then burn it on BD25.. i get a Backup without Sound... and so..
Can i really backup a blueray with this structure? (hopefully with BD-RB)
Whats so special with this structure?
how can i backup my Sherlock Holmes with BD-RB?
can someone please help me?
mfg Filly
you should NOT face any problem with a structure like this, which, as you have already mentioned, is not that unusual
since you ask for HOW to backup SH with BD RB may i ask:
- you did a try with BD RB (version?) and you did not have sound?
- if so: can you post a log?
- did you go for full movie or movie only?

@DK
the only changes i made in the settings is this:
- Movie-Only
- Target Size BD-25
--- In Setup---
i marked -> Do not convert DTS to AC3, do not reencode AC3, Keep HD-Audio for BD25 encoding
..the rest is at standard settings...
... i tried "Brüno", "Wall-e" with BD-RB v0.33.06...and now SH with BD-RB v0.33.07...i post the log from SH in the following days, because im not at home till Tuesday...
but if you say BD-RB dont have any problems with this BD structure than im testing on why i have no sound after backup.. thanks for help

The Princess and the Frog Blu-ray (Multi-angle) is successfully completed with 0.33.7, plays fine on PS3/TMT/PowerDVD, except for blocking at the start of some scenes/m2ts, input file is not corrupted, and i remember a error code from the x264 window: "non-strictly-monotonic pts at frame" from time to time:
I think this is a bug caused by using FFMPEG, because output file is not corrupted, and the image is blocky because was seeded to the encoder that way.

well, it's been more than a year now since i have done Wall-E and at that time i actually had to go a different road as the BD RB version that was up2date at that time did not handle the content properly.
furthermore i have not dealt with Brüno or SH but i have definitely had quite a few other titles which had their main movie spread over a couple of m2ts files similar to Wall-E and they all worked fine - never had a severe problem for quite some time
maybe you might want to take a look at this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=146529) and try makemkv if all else fails
but you should provide a complete log file here in any case

@SquallMX
You're right it seems to be caused by the X264 internal FFMS frame server. I think I have that fixed by doing a demux first as is seems to be related to FFMS's way of demuxing from M2TS. I'll have a new version posted tomorrow that (I believe) should fix that.

but i hear the audio in BR menu ( i think it'is DD5.1 )
could be that after starting the backup, PC is shutdown
I rebooted the computer, restarted bdrebuilder and asked me if I wanted resume previuos job ,i say YES
This could have created the bug of audio:confused:

I have made copies of Avatar, made 2 copies each in BD5 and BD9. Neither of th BD9's would play on my stand alone, yet played on the computer. I have a Panasonic B60, the BD 5's played on both, Used Verbatim 2.4X disks on all. Any ideas? Also one copy of each was full movie and one movie only.Again neither worked On BD9, both did work on BD5. T.I.A.

Did you use AVCHD patcher 1.06 before IMGburn? IF not that may be your problem.

Hi, sorry to ask this as I know I have read something on this before on threads, I cldn't find it again. I'm trying to burn movie, full backup to DVD9. When done, it shows up as a data disc on PS3, and won't play on PC with Power DVD 10. Is this because:
1. DVD 9's don't do well with full movie backup?
or
2. There is a setting I have to adjust to enable this to happen?
Thanks

I still recommend AVISYNTH 2.5.7, but there haven't been any reports of issues with v2.5.8 that I could conclusively point at AVISYNTH so I decided to list it at "Ok". I think it may have gotten some of the blame for HAALI versions that didn't work and got corrected with a "complete reinstall of support components".
As for CoreAVC -- I can only say that I bought it, and ended up reverting to FFDSHOW because it had issues with playback of some sources. So if you decide to use it, always remove it and try FFDSHOW before posting a bug.
Yes, "Blank this stream" is planned for future implementation. Probably not for FFMPEG, although at one point I added that as a placeholder. Frankly X264 works so well that other choices (like I had in BD Rebuilder) seem senseless now.
Thanks for the reply - I only get to the forum sporadically.
I'll remember the AviSynth issue if I have troublke with encodes - which after my switch from Vista x86 to Win7 x64 hasn't been a problem at all. I mentioned this is Afterdawn's thread on BD-RB. As for blank this stream - it would be a nice way to edit - I'm sure it would take some doing - as the structure would change then (if used). And as for the encoder(s) - x264 is fine w/ me!!! Just wondering what the grey FFmpeg was for...
Many Thanks for such a great app. Go public someday??

Hi, sorry to ask this as I know I have read something on this before on threads, I cldn't find it again. I'm trying to burn movie, full backup to DVD9. When done, it shows up as a data disc on PS3, and won't play on PC with Power DVD 10. Is this because:
1. DVD 9's don't do well with full movie backup?
or
2. There is a setting I have to adjust to enable this to happen?
Thanks
Was it burned properly (e.g. UDF 2.50)?

Gran Torino out of sync issue at Chapter 18. The backup of the original Blu-Ray doesn't exhibit this issue. It goes to a sky-blue screen, before the chapter starts, throwing the audio out of sync.
Experiencing the same problem with Alvin & the Chipmunks 2, Asian release. It flickers a still image from a random scene when you start playing, then it's way out of sync after that.
Tried re-ripping it, on two computers, even. Exact same issue. Gonna try ripping with DVDFab next, since it might also just be an AnyDVD glitch...

No it's not. AVCHD Patcher is never needed. The problem is the Panasonic -- it just doesn't like BD-9s for some reason.
Sorry for the incorrect info, you designed the program so you should know....of the 8 movies I have backed up the only one I didn't run the patcher on would not play on my ps3, it had nothing but a black screen although the log showed no errors on the encode. The other seven played perfectly, so that was the reasoning behind my post.

I believe so. I burned with Imgburn, I have it set to UDF for blu-ray, even tho Imgburn checks this automatically.

don't know if this has been mentioned. The 2 encodes (batch) I did with 33.07 I checked shut down at the end and both restarted the computer instead of shutting down.
I will post logs if needed but they are on another computer.
:thanks:

I have updated the link in the first post of this thread with a new version of BD-RB (v0.33.09). Changes for this release are:- Corrected an error in v0.33.07 in which interlaced
sources might mistakenly use FFMS.
- Corrected a "PredictandEncode() 00058 2809" error that
could occur in features that consist of a large number
of combined M2TS files following a stop/restart. This
error was introduced in v0.33.07.
- Corrected an issue in which the status percentage and
bar may incorrectly reflect completion status.
- Corrected a demuxing failure caused by long filenames
that could occur during and ALTERNATE movie-only rebuild
on some sources with a large number of combined M2TS
files.
- Corrected an error in which "SHUTDOWN after Rebuild" no
longer worked correctly in v0.33.07.
- Updated the FFMS selection routine so that it would
include movie-only encodes when appropriate. It seems
the seamlessly branching titles might cause "stutter"
in that case as well.
- Changed the way FFMS is used to prevent short flashes
and out-of-sync audio on certain sources.
- Updated the included version of X264.EXE to the
latest release (r1602).
- Other minor corrections and cosmetic fixes.

I am trying to back up the da vinci code which has a secondary video track for PIP commentary which I believe has it own audio track listed on the stream as "AUD_003(2nd)DTS-express,stereo,english" but I cant highlight to encode which I can for other tracks and subtitles if i want them added. Any ideas or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks in advance

we can't remux dts express properly as the tool (tsmuxer) used for building m2ts files does not support them.

Is there likely to be a fix for dts express?

Is there likely to be a fix for dts express? It is a limitation of TSMUXER. So probably not unless it is updated or another freeware M2TS muxer comes along. I believe the Sourceforge team is working on one.
