Yes.
That's all I needed to hear, thank you.
We're squabbling here about minutia here that is of virtually zero importance. Leaving a few hundred megabytes intact on a 25GB target is rounding figures.
I wasn't concerned in the slightest about a few hundred megabytes being left intact. I was only flummoxed by the change in the number of listed items and wished to learn if that was desired behaviour or not. And now I know :)

There's a lot of new code there -- and it doesn't hurt to be careful.

Encouraged by your reply, I ran a High-Speed 1-pass Full Backup of Citizen Kane on 0.39.01. (I sure as heck don't know why I didn't think of that before asking you about the difference in number of listed items... d'oh! I must be getting old and senile.)
Even though 0.39.01 lists only the Main movie, the output contains the same number of files (160) as the Full Backup output of 0.38.09. I'm playing the output on PowerDVD 11 right now, and so far everything looks fine; I just got through the menu tree and extra materials. Main feature started OK too... and the pop-up menu appears to be working properly.
edit: Ran through the movie, checked audio and english subs sync, as well as scene selections in scene menu, and all was fine. I guess I got unnecessarily alarmed to see the same amount of stuff listed by Full Backup and Movie-only modes :)

first thks for the great soft,
using BDRD to reduce movies to half a BR-D and then use Multiavchd to build menus.
Ideal would be to use custom target size of 11750, for both movies and Movie Only Mode. When I do that, then multiavchd cannot extract thumbnail for chapters, but if I convert with Full Menu then all is nice and Multiavchd can generate chapter menu with thumnails easily.
Problem with later is trying to guess the proper overall size such that the movie is 11750MB.
just a feedback, not sure what a solution could be. is it something specific to do a BD with no menu??
NOte: the chapters are there in the movie only output, only multiavcdhd cannot access the images associated to that specific position it seems.
again thks, soso

Hi! then multiavchd cannot extract thumbnail for chapters, but if I convert with Full Menu then all is nice and Multiavchd can generate chapter menu with thumnails easily. So what bug in BD Rebuilder are you reporting?
RobertM
20th September 2011, 12:22
the chapters are there in the movie only output, only multiavcdhd cannot access the images associated to that specific position it seems.
The chapter points are part of the movie -- they are embedded in the m2ts stream. So they will be included whether you select "full backup" or "movie-only backup".
The thumbnails are part of the menu, so they will not be included in a "movie only" re-encode.

Not the thumbnail of the original disk menu! Multiavchd is simply unable to generate any thumbnail out of a "movie-only" processing. (but it does for one process as full menu)
unsure if it is a bug, or the way it is suppose to be after a movie is process as movie only. Seems strange that it cannot be use in support of authoring, just a fyi .

First of all, much appreciation for the playback quality apparent on all of the compressions levels, even the fastest setting. Movies are every bit as enjoyable as the originals. Every function such as fast forward works flawlessly.
The only problems I have are compressing audio, so I have always opted to keep one of the High res audio streams as is.
This error happens more often than not. Can't figure this one out.

Is the audio that you've selected indicated as an HD audio track in BD-RB?
Also, do you have "Keep HD audio" selected?

That track is an AC3 stereo
but in the audio options settings the only two I have checked are
<Do not reencode AC3 (Blu-Ray only)>
and
<use 448Kbs for AC3 encoding>

Is there any thing in the INI which could interfere or cancel that setting

Unfortunately, you're not reporting your settings at the time the error occured. Here is your setting from the log you posted:
...
- Audio Settings: AC3=1 DTS=1 HD=0 Kbs=448
... Which means "Do not reencode AC3" was not checked then. It's hard to debug when I'm not getting accurate information.

OK, let's say I tried so many permutations I mad the mistake of attaching the wrong log. Sorry for the wild goose chase I caused.
I just deleted them all and started from scratch.
Using the AC3=0 DTS=1 HD=0 Kbs=448 settings it doesn't try to reencode the AC3 but aften fails on the DTS-HD recode:

It's very possible that some other software that you've installed is intercepting the VC-1 codec or a supporting function. I'd recommend you deinstall and reinstall BD-RB and all its helper apps.

Just wanted to say that I recall I backed up a copy of this movie successfully two weeks ago using version 0.38.09
using same audio and auto quality settings. I notice you have 24 av streams while mine had 138. I'm guessing that the newer version auto blanked those which don't appear in the log.
Anyway, I hope you find out what's not working.

1. Make sure you have "Uncompressed audio" enabled in FFDSHOW's audio configuration. Set it to "All Supported"
2. Open up Media Play Classic (it's included with BD-RB).
3. Open the offending AVS file (AUD_00001_4352.AVS) and see if it plays back.
At least that way you'll know whether it is the decoding or the encoding that is causing the issue.
Also, can you look at the file "00001.track_4352.dts" in Explorer and report the size. I'd like to be sure it demuxed properly.

Yes, the audio config setting is set to "all supported"
Yes the AUD_00001_4352.AVS file plays clearly in WMC
And the size of the file is 1,453,497 KB.
I have also tried a movie only conversion of "true grit" down to a BD-5 if only to see how good the video compression is, but fails at the same place with the same audio conversion settings.

Well, then the only other likely possiblity is that AFTEN is missing or has been corrupted somehow. Have you tried reinstalling BD-RB from the zip file? As a test, I just did audio encoding on a disc I have that uses "DTS-HD XLL" with v0.39.01 and it worked fine.

Is there a problem with this hierarchy?
C:\accessories\BD_Reb\tools\aften.exe
if you click on aften.exe it very quickly opens and closes a command window. I doubt it is corrupted, but I'm thinking maybe the path by which BD_reb calls aften.exe may not be correct.

c:\accessories\BD_Reb\tools\wavi.exe "D:\BD REB WORK FOLDER\WORKFILES\AUD_00001_4352.AVS" - | c:\accessories\BD_Reb\tools\aften.exe -v 1 -b 640 -readtoeof 1 - "D:\BD REB WORK FOLDER\WORKFILES\00001.track_4352.AC3"
That should be the same command line that BD-RB is using. Tell me what error you get. Note: even though it rolls over into a couple of lines here -- it should all be on one line.
BD-RB offsets from its execution path. So unless you're calliing BDRB.EXE from somewhere other than "c:\accessories\BD_Reb\" it should be correct.

I had to add an underscore in a dir name. Got a bonafide error message, so evidently it doesn't see PCM audio..

I had to rewrite the path, and ended up getting a bonafide error message, so evidently it doesn't see PCM audio..
PCM audio works just fine for me, and usually I select DD 5.1 640kbps for reencoding for BD5/9. No problems for me.

Now the contents of AUD_00001_4352.AVS reads:
#Created by BD Rebuilder - v0.39.01 (beta)
LoadPlugin("C:\accessories\BD_Rebuilder\tools\nicaudio.dll")
audio=NicDTSSource("00001.track_4352.dts", Channels=2).Amplify(1.2)
ConvertAudioTo16bit(ResampleAudio(audio, 48000)) Curiouser and curiouser. Try opening the AVS with MPC again. Click on the "Properties" selection from the "File" menu while it is playing. Then click on the "Details" tab. What does it say about the audio type? It should be PCM 6 channel @ 48000 hz.
The only way it ever says "Channels=2" is if you are trying to encode to alternate format or you have have "Use 192Kbs encoding for AC3" selected in setup. It sounds like you're playing with your settings.

I am using the latest version with bd-25 output movie only. I am getting a blue shadow. Most obvious on all the faces. Can anyone help me on what options I should use to correct this problem. It happens on different blu-rays. I have backed up over 200 discs with previous versions. this started with the last 2 or 4 releases.

Also, are you positive it doesn't do it on the source? That isn't something that is likely caused by the reencoding unless you've played with the codec.

I have used the same blu-ray player and the same burner for all 200. The last 2 with a problem were Hanna and Star Wars episode IV. The originals played perfectly. Using Anydvd to rip, Imgburn to burn. Have had great successin the past. BD rebuilder has always been great.

OK I read this in the error message generated in the cmd window
Warning: WAV file will be larger than 4 GB.
The original DTS HD is only 1.4 GB That's not the problem. First, because it is not actually being written to a file, it is being sent through stout/stdin to AFTEN, so the warning can be ignored. Second, because the output is supposed to be larger than the source, WAV format (PCM) is not compressed. Also -- at this point the file is no longer DTS-HD, it is standard DTS because TSMUXER has been instructed to extract only the core (the down-to-dts option). DTS-HD would be much, much larger than 1.4GB.
The program is saying it can't write to standard output (stdout). That has to mean something is wrong with your system -- as stdin and stdout have to be supported inherently in the O/S. Have you been doing any fiddling around with your O/S lately, like replacing the standard command programs?
What O/S are you using? Please don't tell me this is a Mac or Linux with an emulator...

Microsoft Windows XP pro [Version 5.1.2600] sp3 No modifications made to the command system.
all updates to present applied.
I see many applications which run on the cmd line such as x264.exe, wavi.exe, setACL.exe,
MP4box.exe etc etc, don't they all require the same standard cmd in/out support? Never had any other
similar error. Could this mean it can't find the path of the output device for that ap? Is there maybe an
environmental system variable for that command which needs to be added?
OK at least we found something out.
And now I hear the music from twilight zone playing in the background

Not sure whether this has with path redirect before I start changing the environmental system properties. This is the first time this beast showed up. Evidently I find a similar problem if you read post 5 in this thread, though no resolution

any advice is greatly appriciated
I wanted to ask if my settings were correct to burn to BD9 disc to play on any Blu-ray players. I have tried the trial of airssoft total media theater and it seemed to work so is it a player issue then? any advice on setup is welcome or is this a bug.
thanks

First off, I think it would be better by not ripping your source BD to the desktop, I am no computer tech but seems to me like you are making BD_Rebuilder dig too deep into the directory structure to get the files it needs. I would just put it in the C:\ ROOT like the work folder (or even better on a separate HD). Maybe it's just me but if you want to do a backup why burn to an ISO, and then have to put it in a virtual drive? At any rate BD_Rebuilder is just for making a bluray backup thats intended to be burned, and jdobbs never claimed that it would work with software players, or media boxes. The best test of the end result is always going to be burned to a disk and played in a STB. PowerDVD has always been a beast to play blurays with, I gave up on PowerDVD7 when it would not play HD audio because my monitor didn't have HDCP copy protection, DOH!
