I got a report earlier of an imported DVD that was having audio sync problems. Since I haven't tested any PAL discs, and I haven't seen any sync issues, could someone report if they have successfully imported a PAL DVD?

Thanks.

I'll have to check on that. You reminded me that there are some DVD sources that are actually encoded at 4:3, but since the IFO takes precedence they are played back at 16:9. It's not common, but I've seen them. I need to make sure I use the aspect specified in the IFO.

[Edit] I just went back and checked and I am getting the aspect ratio from the IFO. Is this an original unmodified DVD?

[Edit again] Hmm... I took a closer look and it appears I may have made a mistake in the way I pulled the rate from the IFO for PAL DVDs, still checking... now I'm wondering how your PAL disc was in-sync?

[Edit another time] I followed the code, and although the ratio is pulled correctly from the IFO, when it is remuxed into BD format by TSMUXER, the ratio used is the one in the extracted MPEG-2 stream. I'll need to somehow change that. I can always scan the MPEG-2 stream and replace the flags, I guess... but I'd rather avoid that.

Thanks for the feedback I try check again if the DVD is in sync, maybe some others here can try a PAL DVD too and see what they experience. The DVD is not modified it is a DVD9 original one.

Just tried opening a h.264 ts file with BD Rebuilder v0.42.02 (beta) but I get:

- Building pseudo-BD source structure...
[07:49:39]ERROR: Failed to build BD structure. Aborted.

Pop-up says:
Demuxing Error
Error: Failed to build BD structure. Aborting.

If I use tsMuxeR GUI on the same file it demuxes fine.

I can confirm that the DVD is in sync, so thats not the problem. The problem is the aspect ratio.

[Edit] Ok found it. It was truncating a character off the end of the filename in the META file. Just a little more testing and I'll post a fix.

http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p305/soneca1/Forum/teste.jpg Can you give me some details about the DVDs that won't import? There are some that aren't BD compliant like MPEG-1 and Half-D1 for example. Frankly, those are few and far between (I've never seen a commercial disc with either).

Try a complete M2TS file... I'm not sure what a "piece" entails...

Also, please identify the audio type of the original. I haven't tested LPCM (I couldn't find one). Opening it with DVD Rebuilder can give you the details.

Ughh... I screwed that up... don't know what I was thinking. I'll rezip it and post it again.

Ah, no worries. Worry is the most useless thing..except if you want to experience illness, haha. Sometimes we have to notice we're not very focused and get ourselves back into focus. :)

All I can say is that I'm at about 40-45 DVD discs so far, all NTSC like yours, and none have failed yet. I have no idea what's going on with yours.

As for the M2TS, hang on for the next release. I found a couple things that I've fixed.

May I make a recommendation? Put the FORCE_NOENCODE into the Encoding Menu settings? It would be nice to switch to it, like the other; slower, faster..after selections are already made without losing the selected Blanking(s) from editing the config via the GUI.

Also, I tried the import one of my DVDs of The Mentalist, and I can see "Jerking". I didn't set for reencoding. If I play the actual DVD, no jerking. I'll try with a "Movie" soon. Meanwhile, I love to added feature for other backups...including TiVo files.

Almost all discs have pulldown applied -- many blu-rays players have problems with pulldown in BD format (even if you keep the original MPEG-2 source). I'd suggest you make sure you have IVTC enabled (to remove the pulldown) and resize to 720 or 1080 -- that way pulldown doesn't have to be reapplied (because 23.976fps is legal for those resolutions).

I've purposely put FORCE_NOENCODE in the hidden options because it is so rarely used. People forget, and then I get dozens of bug reports related to oversizing. I want to keep "special feature" types of options (than can cause reencoding/resizing/non-compliance issues) off the radar except for people who really understand the implications.

jdobbs, I try to search for answer to this question but I couldn't find any so if I ask, please don't go crazy! :) If a bluray disc has both 2D & 3D version, will BD-RB be able to back up the 2D portion only?

It can, bdrb ignores the SSIF folder. The menu will still list the 3d entry but it won't start the movie / work. The only time i tried that selecting the 3d option stopped disc playback, selecting the 2d option worked as it should.

As far as I remember from earlier experience, tsmuxer does not support any --pulldown options. I think this is still the case as tsmuxer has not seen any further development since.

As far as I remember from earlier experience, tsmuxer does not support any --pulldown options. I think this is still the case as tsmuxer has not seen any further development since. The pulldown is added in X264. TSMUXER accepts the source with pulldown, shows it as such in its window, and recognizes it as 29.97fps. If there are issues with it's handling pulldown I'm not aware of it. But I can say my Samsung player doesn't play it very well. I generally just use 23.976 via SD_PROGRESSIVE on 720x480 sources if I'm keeping them at SD. Even though it is against the BD standard (so I can't outright recommend it), I've never seen a player that wouldn't accept it.

I should correct myself, though. I said "Almost all discs have pulldown applied..." -- I should have said "Almost all NTSC discs have pulldown applied...

TSMUXER does have an option to remove pulldown.

Yes, it's added in x264 but you may remember that we had some discussion on --pulldown and jerky playback based on various experiments and settings, and at the end the conclusion (suspicion) was that there seem to be issues with tsmuxer (+/- confirmed by others as well) not handling pulldown correctly. I have no proof however, but see also the note here (http://www.x264bluray.com/issues-with-certain-players).
Player or tsmuxer -- it seems advisable to avoid --pulldown if possible.

I am storing all my movies into ISO rips using a custom 9GB setting, movie-only mode, high-speed option and both encoding un-ticked to enable 2-pass encoding. This results in crunching the movie down in a few hours. I will be storing an HD audio stream wherever possible within the 9GB iso and leaving the rest for video.

Has anyone used this option and compared the results without the high-speed option and highest (very slow) encoding selecting instead? If so, are there big difference in the resulting output or is it only marginal, if at all?

I'm trying the second option and see how long that takes and what the outcome is and will compare it to the original. I just did a run using the first option using kick-ass as the movie input and the output seems excellent. Though, I'd have to wait for this second one to finish to compare the results.

As I have a BDP-93, I'd want the ISO rips to be large enough so I would prefer the better outcome video quality wise, even if it takes many hours longer. My initial intention will not to burn these to bdr-25gb blanks as I want to store my rips into a reasonable size so that I can fit as many onto a 2TB disk without compromising video quality and thought 9GB was a good place to start. I do have an LTO Ultrium 4 backup drive and will instead backups my rips to tapes.

Your input appreciated.

Cheers

AUTO_BIAS=4

The AUTO_BIAS setting affects the threshold as to where the decision points are made using AUTOMATIC mode. So if you select anything other than AUTOMATIC, it has no affect at all. But if you set it to a higher value, there is a bias toward using higher quality settings as opposed to lower quality settings. But the decision is still based on frame counts, target size, and bitrate.

thanks for reply, but if I put in bdrebuider.ini,
AUTO_BIAS = 4
ENCODE_QUALITY = 4
would be compatible with each other?
or AUTO_BIAS is limited to (3)

I think I'm missing something in the options. With the new Importing method, I noticed using the SD_PROGRESSIVE that 29 does get changed to 23.976...no re-rendering for 720x480 sources. Video is still jerky via LG Player and software. Would it be possible to add a re-render feature that keeps the same resolution to get a smooth output (SD to SD with Pulldown)? Or are there options I'm not using correctly, or a combination? The SD to 720p does look Good, but I'd rather keep the same 720x480 with a 2 pass encode.

Thanks.

Thanks.Does BD Rebuilder tell you it is IVTC'd in the log? If not, then the source isn't using pulldown or you haven't told BD-RB to IVTC in SETUP. That is required to output to 23.976.

But... if both of those are set, and it doesn't IVTC -- then the source isn't pulldown and it can't be output as FILM (23.976). In that case then if it is jumpy, then either the original or your players are at fault.

If you don't want to IVTC, then just uncheck those two and let BD-RB reencode at 29.97. I'd also suggest you use the DEINTERLACE option. Those settings are the default in BD-RB. If you are experiencing jerkiness with the defaults set -- you'd better check on your players -- because the jerkiness isn't coming from the processing.

Just as a note... I'm POSITIVE the IVTC/SD_PROGRESSIVE combination is working correctly. All 45+ of the DVDs I've converted in testing worked correctly using those options and they all used pulldown.

I have updated the first post of this thread with links to a new release of BD-RB (v0.42.03). Changes for this version:- Added code to correct for the occasional audio
PTS start delta during DVD importing.
- Corrected an issue in which the framerate for
imported PAL DVDs could be incorrectly pulled
from the source IFO files. This would result
in audio sync issues.
- Made changes to video file import so that DTS-HD,
TRUE-HD, and LPCM sources are properly handled in
.TS and .M2TS files.
- Corrected an error in which importing .TS files
will fail during attempt to create BD structure.
- Other minor corrections and cosmetic fixes.

Ah, sheeeot....hahaha, I forgot about the sizes...I haven't used the custom sizing for a bit. Since episodes are about 42 minutes, the file size has to be taken into account. Laughing at myself!! Got it.

** edit ** also noticed something from the Source path textbox. Seems like the path gets truncated. I have a rip on "Z:\Blu-Ray\Double Layer\DTS-E\UNDERWORLD_RISE_OF_THE_LYCANS" however the path gets truncated to "Z:\Blu-Ray\Double".

When converting a DVD to Blu-ray is there any way to stop it from converting all the subtitles and only convert the ones you want to keep? Some of my DVD's have 15+ subtitle tracks which takes around 8 minutes to convert when I only want to keep 1 of them

Once BD-RB imports the dvd/s, you should be able to enter setup and deselect the ones you don't wanna keep. Perhaps even double click on the individual subs ;)

I Haven't tried this yet, but it appears that way to me.

Jdobbs! That's awesome LOL! You convert the Mpeg 2 to BD compliancy on the fly. No actual encoding is done. Simply wonderful. Expect a donation soon ;) If one however wants to upscale, or make serious changes, obviously one needs to re-encode.

that's true for BD's, i didn't check this on my last DVD encode but it pretty much converted them all automatically

Well yes. In the import section. If one wants to make actual changes, then they need to reencode, eh?

It doesn't, it imports and converts all the subs automatically, then after 8-10 mins of importing it fails.

I imported "Unthinkable" without any failures :S Must be unique circumstances.

looks that way, the next disc imported, made into a Blu-ray, but no subtitles on the output

I greatly look forward to more advancements. A simplistic menu would be very appealing. Perhaps a design, that allows the user to import their own buttons. For instance, I love creating my own PNG images, and adding them to the appropriate Nero Vision folders ;)

Never tried it with ConvertX. Perhaps that's possible though.

Well yes. In the import section. If one wants to make actual changes, then they need to reencode, eh? For a DVD import, you can burn directly from that folder if you wish. For other imports (like MP4, MKV, etc) you can't do that -- as the audio/video isn't necessarily BD compliant at that point. That's why I call those a "Pseudo-BD" format. For example, some of the video sources may need borders added during encoding in order to be a standard BD compliant format.

I imported "Unthinkable" without any failures :S Must be unique circumstances. I'm at about 50 imports of DVDs now. No issues, not failures during conversion, all in sync, all subs working (but all NTSC). If folks are having issues, I'd like to get details as to what they are experiencing so I can see what's different about their attempts.

looks that way, the next disc imported, made into a Blu-ray, but no subtitles on the output What are you using to play it back? I've tested with two Samsung standalone players and with PowerDVD 11 -- and both are working correctly. Is this NTSC or PAL? What disc are you trying?
