@ Nkotok
I have a hard time believing it was just pot luck - back when I first started using BD-RB, setting target output size to BD-25 I always only got 92%-93% of the disc size. That's when I experimented and came up with the custom size of 24166mb - which without fail had filled 98% of the disc (up until now that is). I also did the same for output to DVD-9 - setting a custom target size of 8244mb filled 98% of the disc without fail.
The reason I re-encoded the Sarah Connor Episodes to weird custom sizes was to get the whole series on 2 discs rather than 3 (5 episodes on disc 1, 4 episodes on disc 2). One of the episodes that I had previously successfully hit the correct target size of 5858mb, this time came out over 1gb smaller! I believe this test rules out encoder saturation.

When you re encode movie only, what audio option do you check? Do you keep HD Audio?

leChameleon: this (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1283290#post1283290) may fix your VC-1 in windows 7 problem.
This problem was driving me nuts, till this morning that I saw this possible solution. It has DONE it. At this very moment BD is encoding a VC-1 p film when before it always aborted as soon as it came to the video. In about 6 hours I'll see the results.
Thank you again, turbojet! :)

Nope, when encoding to BD-25 I've been using either DD 640kbps or DTS 1536kbps - in other words the 'core' from the hi-def stream (I've just been leaving everything unticked for DVD-9 - 448kbps)
Obviously I only use BD-RB if the movie+core audio stream remux from tsMuxer comes out at over 25gb.
I'm baffled.

I see. Well, I usually try to leave hd audio untouched and it seems like that is when the problems with output size of BD RB start to occur. When you convert hd audio to something smaller, BD RB seems to do a better job outputting the right size.

Well whatever the problem was with Alien Vs Predator the sollution was to select "Quick Encode For Extras" I just finished watching it. Strange
Thanks for your imput turbojet
@ Capsbackup
Before re-encoding I always use tsMuxer to mux out just the movie with the main audio track to see if it will fit on a BD-R without re-encoding - in the case of The Bourne Supremacy it came out at over 25gb and needed to be re-encoded
i always check size==
can i direct copy entire DISC ?
can i TsMuxeR and copy just MOVIE ?
if it's close== reduce THD/DTS MASTER--> CORE (smaller audio file)
but wait.... it comes out just a little over BD-R > 25.025gb
(say 25.5 or 26.0) Now What??
Newer Movies have 3-7minutes of End Credits on a 2hr movie==
(25.5/25) - 1 x 120 = 2.4 minutes
(26.0/25) - 1 x 120 = 4.8 minutes
since the CAST credits are generally 1st (or near the TOP)
i would only loose some CREDITS i rarely read anyway
Image Burn will COMPLAIN by Default (ISO too big)
press past tell it to CLOSE DISC and it always works 4me (BD-R and BD9)
learned by mistake after 12hrs of encoding Hunt for Red October--> BD9
play back on PowerDVD-8 and Sony BDP-S350
4 movie only: i been using CUSTOM SIZE = 24000--24500 (BD-R)
can use BIGGER #S when RE-encoding Audio--> 640bps
SIZING algorithm works better when it RE-encodes audio

Is anyone now how BD-RB edit the MPLS files?
Is done by external S/W or its been done by the RB it self?
If it is what are the changes ?
I tried to compere the before and after files and couldn't figure out the changes.
I am trying to solve the LPCM problem but for that i need to edit the MPLS files.
Thanks

Blu-ray Disc Title: THE BOURNE SUPREMACY (2004) PART 1 of 2
Testing code to a different extreme than I have done before.
Here I attempted to keep everything and only reduce the Video portion to fit in a BD-R 25GB disc.
Here are BD-RB's setup.

For the life of me I can not figure out why during the last stages it fails.
Does anyone else have any clues or have they successfully back up this film before?

Is anyone now how BD-RB edit the MPLS files?
Is done by external S/W or its been done by the RB it self?
If it is what are the changes ?
I tried to compere the before and after files and couldn't figure out the changes.
I am trying to solve the LPCM problem but for that i need to edit the MPLS files.
Thanks
It does it itself. The changes are many and are dependent up on what the original needs and what choices you make... so telling you what changes it makes would be very difficult.

Known issue, no solution to my knowledge that is certain to work. I don't have one but the person posting above this post is the first I've heard of them getting 24p to work with a Panasonic BD-XX model.
Is there any news on this ?
Iīve done some research, but couldnīt find any reason why it works in RipBot264, but not in BD-RB. There is some difference in the encodes, because if try to play to Bd-Rb .264 file with mpc-hc itīs like a sildeshow playing. The Ripbot264 .264 file works fine. (mpc-hc with ffdshow H264 codec)
I tried the complete Bd-Rb H264 settings in Ripbot (Custom Profile) and it works great with my Bd35 in 24p.
But i would like to use Bd-rb, because in Ripbot there is no option for 2nd audio and kepping the hd-audio.
I know Bd-Rb works for "stef73", but there are some guys with the same problem.
Is there anything i could try ?
Thx in advance.

Yes, something should be done about that. Why would not Panny players play reencodes with 24fp enabled? I deleted many encodes because of that at the time when I did not know what was wrong. I would burn a blank and try to play it and then there was only sound and no picture (good that I used BD-RW! :)
Need to move on to try RipBot.

Note: File 00371.m2ts in the original/master rip folder ...\BOURNE_SUPREM\BDMV\STREAM is only 18.0 KB. Could this have something to do with the reason BD-RB 0.20.09 failed?
When viewing this file there is only "black" in color, no picture/data thus one might assume it used as a filler.

1. You don't need to post the stupidly long log you posted further up the page in this thread. Use some common sense to trim the irrelevent stuff in future if you don't mind.
2. The answer to your assumption is almost definately "yes". If you send in m2ts's of around 0-1mb they can often fail due to the video in them being so small that tsmuxer doesn't treat them correctly and you get the error you are experiencing.
To correct this, look in changes.txt around the release of 0.20.03 roughly, an option was added to set the minimum m2ts size to process...
Use that and set it high enough so you don't have any problems, further to this make sure you are using "quicker encoding for extras" so you don't waste hours of time for an encode that is going to fail.
...And further again ;)
You may well experience crashes when encoding m2ts that contain both interlaced and progressive material. I believe the bourne series may well contain this type of video. If you experience this then you will have to set the min m2ts size to encode to a size high enough so BDRB doesn't touch that video.
...Or look at the solutution posted by turbojet in another thread with appropriate title. You will need TotalMedia Theatre though to get it to work properly.
There is no "free" decoder that can properly handle that material. It is not a bug. :)

@leChameleon
Ran into A similar issue as you did here. Not sure if it is the exact same but follow turbojets suggetion ....... install the newest version of ffdshow tryouts (http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/) if you have not already .... see below ...... and set quick encode for extras ........ this is what worked for me with Alien Vs Predator. Mind you there is not allot of extras in that disk ....... you'll have to see how that works with your movie.
with latest ffdshow tryouts from today installed go to video decoder settings, codec page, for MPEG2 set libavcodec.

What is not apparently clear to me here "default MIN_M2TS_SIZE to default to 100MB for BD-25 encodes" is if the default size is 100MB then why is the 12KB file being submitted for encoding? Perhaps I'm not understanding this feature entirely.

Can one conclude that an "extra" is anything other than the largest *.m2ts file in the ...\BDMV\STREAM folder?
One might assume an "extra" could be trailers, etc... not a "blank" filler, at least this is what I assumed.

what that means is any file that is part of an MPLS that requires encoding ........ even if it is just 1 M2TS file of the set all M2TS files from that set get encoded regardless of the size of the MIN_M2TS_SIZE=nnnn setting. jdobbs mentioned something along this line back around page 135 or so.

Yeah, it's technically not very clear now since BDRB has changed to take the mpls into account. Like I said just change the min m2ts value to a lower one so it doesn't get encoded.
It's "normal".

Yes, something should be done about that. Why would not Panny players play reencodes with 24fp enabled? I deleted many encodes because of that at the time when I did not know what was wrong. I would burn a blank and try to play it and then there was only sound and no picture (good that I used BD-RW! :)
Need to move on to try RipBot.Somebody tell me what is different and what would fix it... frankly I believe the issue is the Panasonic, but it there is a workaround I'd like to hear it.

@jdobbs;
I have followed your program from the initial release, as I am sure have many others, and I am grateful and impressed with its capabilities. I have made a donation as well to further assist you with its development. There have been too many to count "bug reports", some valid to the program and some due to setup issues at the user end, some due to incompatible players not capable of playing AVCHD content, etc... It has become difficult to keep up. Also, with your busy schedule, perhaps some of the more credible "bug reports" go either unoticed or are not replied to. As has been reported by others, I too enjoy trying to help develop your program, and do spend considerable time reading and testing and reporting the results, with hope to assist you with BD-RB's improvement. And of course, I do benefit from it!
However, as of late, possible due to your busy schedule and/or some overly critical posts, or potentially numerous others, this thread has not been very helpful anymore.
I would like to ask if you could inform us, perhaps in a different thread or something you only post in, as to the status of:
- bugs you have recognized and are working on.
-features to implement.
I believe your time is too valuable to respond to everyone that reports a problem, but a thread that we could quickly read and follow your progress, view if a bug has been reported, and see your status would be extremely helpful.
Thanks for this wonderful program! :thanks:

Somebody tell me what is different and what would fix it... frankly I believe the issue is the Panasonic, but it there is a workaround I'd like to hear it.
The video RipBot264 produces doesn't have the issues in MPC-HC like BD-RB using .264 elementary streams does either. That said I've had no problems with 24p on a Panasonic BD30 using mkv as an elementary stream. The mkv appending issue I found awhile back has been fixed in tsmuxer. This would be my best suggestion.

Try the Windows 7 workaround mentioned earlier in this thread and here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1283215#post1283215). BD-RB is working fine for me on Windows 7 x86 and x64 after the fix. Remember you need haali and ffdshow-tryouts installed as mentioned in the first post of this thread.
Another possible reason for BD25 undersizing is I see it can only use a maximum average bitrate of 25 mbps. I think it's safe to use a max of 50 mbps at least.

50mbps would be out of spec though wouldn't it?
I have an import of Akira that uses 192khz 5.1 TrueHD track that is 12GB in size. Along with an English TrueHD track + PCM audio...This coupled with a 50mbps peak video bitrate would surely cause serious stuttering in places on certain SAD players...I'm guessing but prolly abit risky?
I don't really know though, what's your view?
I can't see something like 35mbps being a problem and would surely be the "optimal" or thereabouts maximum...Can't imagine any source needing anything higher than that at 1920x1080. 25mbps on the other hand could in rare circumstances not quite be enough in my experience.
turbojet
24th May 2009, 11:33
BD spec max is 50 mbps video bitrate, 62.5 mbps total bitrate as far as I know.
I've seen some retail BD's up around 45 mbps video bitrate but you are right it might be better off to play it a little safer and take the undersize.
I know x264 doesn't really even need 25 mbps average in most cases but major sizing issues will always be seen as a bug as long as you are able to set a target size.

Like Capsbackup says, thanks for the program it's just the forum situation that is counterproductive and frustrating to everyone involved. Check your attitude at the door. You're right -- you are being blunt and rude.
I have been very busy making a living -- high pressure and short timelines in my real job. If you don't like it, then suggest a way to feed my family on the less-than-mcdonalds money I make on donations. Otherwise keep your comments to yourself.
Is that a blunt and rude enough answer for you? If not I can return to the first comment I made and edited out...
I had no idea I'd be this busy when I started this project -- but I have to do what I have to do, and if BD Rebuilder suffers, well I have to eat. I can tell you this, though, making rude comments and demands on a free software program is competely unacceptable and will only result in less attention.
As for the thread... go back through the last 30 pages or so and see how many bugs are actually reported. There is so much commentary (like your post) that its hard to find a bug report -- especially when you only have time to come and read them occasionally.
BTW. Here is a quote from the first post of this thread that I wrote back in December:
If you decide to download and test -- please post any errors you find in this thread. Don't push bug resolution or keep asking for a fix. I will get to the reported bugs, but only when I can find the time.
Was that not honest and clear? I guess it was just as clear as this quote from the first post:Please do not post any non-bug-related messages in this thread. I'd like to reserve it for bug reports only. If you want to start a "I wish" or "let's debate something" discussion, let's put it somewhere else, ok?

You got the wrong end of the stick, again!!!
This is to help YOU, nobody else. christ...I give up.
You want it so when you do get a chance to work on BDRB that you have a nice streamlined collection of bugs to work on and not trawl through page upon page, potentially missing importants ones.
This thread has become far too rotten to ever save.
Make a delete this abomination, make a few new sticky threads.
1. General discussion, for people who need help etc
2. Genuine bug reports set out in a clear and concise way following a template you can set in the op.
3. Feature requests
Suspensions for people who violate\etc. Like myself. Simple.
I can't fathom your attitude towards my comments of them being rude in the way you seem to have taken them. Only reason I mentioned it is because you seem to be very caught up in your real job at the moment. It wasn't a complaint. The miscommunication of the internet in all it's glory. OK might not be my place to say...and none of my business but it's quite a common setup.
Feel free to ignore, just a suggestion. :(

hi jdobbs,
i can't answer the question regarding the difference between 24p playback with panasonic players and other ones.
The only thing i can tell you is, that a bd which runs through tsmuxer works finde with 24p enabled in my panasonic bd-55.
With your software i've got still the same problem.
By the way a working dts-hd encondung would be nice, too. Tried to report this several times but nothing happend,...
Hope u continue your great work until this point.
Now DVD Fab has a BluRay encoding functions, which results in playback witout movie an sound, ......
So BD Rebuilder is my choice ;-)
by the way:
if you like, i would install a bugzilla on my server to create specific bug reports which could be selected and filtered to get a overview which problems are the biggest ones and whats the best way to solve them,...

Obviously nothing in the way of a log as it seems fine but just not seen anything like this (I made two burns to check against a dodgy disc).

I posted an update for BD Rebuilder in the first post of this thread. Summary of changes:
- Added code to take advantage of PGS (sub) resizing
now included in TSMUXER for 1280x720 resizing.
- Fixed an error in which PGS (sub) adjustments were
not being made when doing movie-only reencoding.
- Corrected an error in which LPCM files were not
being retained correctly when selecting "Keep HD
Audio for BD25". It still needs some testing, but
should work correctly now.
- Corrected a problem in which multi-part LPCM files
were not being reintegrated properly into Movie-Only
encodes to BD-25.
- Removed BDREBUILDER.INI from installation .ZIP. It
prevents accidental overwriting when updating.
- Updated X264 to version (r1153)
- Updated TSMUXER to latest release (v1.10.6). Note:
This version and later REQUIRES TSMUXER v1.10.6 or
higher due to use of new features.
- Other minor corrections and cosmetic fixes.

My suggestion: advise people not to buy the Panasonic. That's the only way to force them to create a compliant player.
If someone could point out what needs to change, I would happily modify BD-RB for a workaround -- but not owning a Panasonic player, I have no way of knowing what to change.

Well, they say RipBot's encodes play on Panasonic's players in 24p mode just fine. So RipBot reencodes somehow different, I guess.
I tried RipBot the other day and I there are things I liked and did not like (the same as with BD Rebuilder) - and wish one program would exist that would have good things from both RipBot and BD Rebuilder.
What I liked about Ripbot is it reencodes in a way that the result can be played in 24p on Pannys (I noticed that both passes in Ripbot took long time, while 1st pass in Bd RB does not take much time) and the final size is spot on (makes exactly 100% of a BD25 and not 94 or 96% as it is the case with BD RB most of the time).
What I did not like in RipBot is that it still does not have an option to keep HD Audio track, which is very very bad (and I would guess to add this option would not be that hard).
So if I had to choose between two now: for movies for which I don't care to keep hd audio I would defensively choose Ripbot.
But I got used to BD Rebuilder. Only if there was a way to improve the reencoding process to get output size spot on all the time and get the result to play in 24p on Pannys, that would be great.

I always tried to find out what this option was for and if I should check it if I try to create a blu-ray structure to burn on a BD25 and play on a stand alone. I never got a clear answer but understood that it was not supposed be checked for bd25s that one wants to play on stand alone players?
I will try it now though.

Thanks for the new version especially sup resize support and no .ini for easier updating.
I see that the playability issue that have been brought up by many still exist since movie only is still using --bluray if you are confused on the matter see this post (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1286079#post1286079) which should revert it back to how movie only was before the tsmuxer update and allow more software (hardware?) players to play both movie only and full backups.
I also found a few new bugs:
- DTS gets converted to AC3 even if its checked not to
- AC3 gets converted to AC3 even if its checked not to
- HD audio gets converted to AC3 even if its checked not to
- while its really a tsmuxer bug which they know about and are fixing, BD-RB can work around keeping resized sups most original by using: bottom-offset=0,font-border=0
Also a few requests that should be fairly simple but they affect quite a few peoples usability:
- like DVD-RB by default don't deinterlace (deinterlace as option?) and use x264.exe --tff to keep the motion smooth, retain all the video data (fielddeinterlace removes half the lines) and interlaced compresses better.
- increase max bitrate to prevent major undersize. 25 mbps with DVD has been very well tested successfully with RipBot264, BD should support 50 mbps video bitrate but maybe play it safe with 40 mbps
- use mkv as default x264 output and have 264_INTERMEDIATE ini option since 264 has issues with some software players and very well could be the reason for the Panasonic 24p issue
Any chance of any of these in a not so distant future version?
