I now have burnt Invictus to a BD-RE and the problem has shifted:
- when selecting the PIP feature there is NO sound at all although the information of the BD Player list the audio stream for the PIP feature:
So I still cannot access the DD+ sound stream of the PIP feature.
[/CODE]
To enable the PiP feature on your standalone, you will have to enter your players audio setup and change the setting to "Mixed" rather than "Direct".
I really dislike this about Blu-ray players, a real PITA just to try and watch the PiP feature, since you have to have the audio set this way for it to work. :p
Thanks a lot, Capsbackup, you were right on spot:
as soon as I changed my standard setting from "Bitstream audiophile" to "Bitstream re-encoding" the PIP-commentary was available.
So far I cared for PIP bonus but in the case of Invictus I was curious and learnt something new. :thanks:

Keep running into a repeated stall out on rebuild of "Pixar Shorts Vol. 1." Win7 Pro 64-bit, 10GB RAM, standard All Backup/x264/Auto ImgBurn settings I've used on dozens of other titles w/ my setup. Rips fine w/ AnyDVD, BD-Rebuilder v34.02 gets to re-encoding the final track #29 and stops at 10.02% (have attempted a fresh rip and re-starting the re-build, seems to go fine until exactly the same point in the same track each time--5 or 6 attempts, updated my BD-Rebuilder to v34.04 and same thing). Here's the log:

Curious if anyone else has had an issue w/ this title or knows anything else to try...

I have made a full disc backup of AUSTRALIA LAND BEYOND TIME to BD5 using BD-RBV03404, and though BD-RB completes successfully, the movie is unplayable because when it goes to the main menu after a couple of adverts, there are no button highlights, thus there is no way to select play, scenes, extras etc...
The menu is displayed, but no way to arrow to a selectable button, and pressing enter does nothing.

:) Nothing! There is no way to navigate, as if the button highlights were removed/eliminated on the backup.

Hi! Rips fine w/ AnyDVD, BD-Rebuilder v34.02 gets to re-encoding the final track #29 and stops at 10.02%Have you tried PLAYING that same track, from your original BluRay disc, on your PC?

I've been looking for a disc that shows menu issues so I can debug it. There were a couple reports like that before -- but they're pretty rare and are typically unusual or hard-to-find titles. I've been wondering if they have Interactive Graphics (IGS) included in the M2TS (which TSMUXER apparently ignores).

Hi! Have you tried PLAYING that same track, from your original BluRay disc, on your PC? That one sure sounds like a bad rip... I'd also consider system instability -- but that's unlikely since it seems to always stop at the same point.

Not sure if this will help, but if I view the title with BDEdit, when looking at the .mpls file associated with the .m2ts file, I see under STN: IG=0.

Hmmm. That means the IGS is in an independent stream -- that's how almost all of them are. Oh, well, I guess I'll have to look elsewhere.

Again, not sure if this will help, but by deleting the BD-RB reencoded main menu .m2ts and associated .clpi file, and inserting the originals, the main menu button highlights now display and are selectable. However, the three other main menu buttons, scene selections, set-up and bonus features also experience the same problem once I select any of them. That is, once inside each of those buttons, again there are no selectable button highlights to choose an option.
So deleting those other three BD-RB reencoded .m2ts/.clpi files and inserting the originals brings back full menu functionality for all buttons.
Sounds similar to the problem I had: click (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1406941#post1406941)

@jdobbs;
This may or may not be of interest or of any help, but I will just report my experience. In the past I have reported having problems with Universal titles on full disc backups to BD5/9 media, where there is no audio present or heard when playing back on my Sony S360. The audio is there, and works perfectly with PowerDVD or TMT3 though! However, if this same backup is burned to BD-RE, it does work then.
To my suprise, a recent full movie backup to BD9 of Twilight, from Summit Entertainment, had the same result! I had not experienced this dilemma before from any other companies except Universal.
Out of curiosity, I did a test from two previous problem discs, one Universal title, Scorpion King, and Twilight. Scorpion King was burned to BD5 and Twilight to BD9. I copy the contents of those discs to new folders on my hard drive and use them as the source. I then demux the main audio track from the source to a seperate file.
Using multiAVCHD in re-author mode, I import the BD-RB contents from those source files, and with the option to remove the original audio and insert my newly demuxed audio file, which of course is the same as the original, then rebuild that to a new backup.
After burning those new backups to disc, both work perfectly!
Also, I am now able to select and view the subtitle tracks as well, where as the original BD-RB backups, not only was the audio not heard but the subtitles were not selectable as well.
So this apparent "re-muxing" a new external audio track from a previously good backup that just was not able to hear the main audio of the feature, now is working perfectly!
I am well aware of your view on pre/post processing of backups, and agree with you! However, I will hope this information could help you determine the cause some full backups to AVCHD BD5/9 media experience this audio issue. :)

@jdobbs;
:) So the only real thing happening is demuxing and remuxing? Interesting.
@DeanK
Is there any special processing involved in the process described? Is the MPLS or CLPI modified in this process?

@Caps, jdobbs: I'm not sure what could be changed when doing simple remux, but the log shows that multiAVCHD does something to 00015.mpls (and obviously 00002.clpi). Caps, can you attach these two files from BD-RB and from multiAVCHD? Also - did you use AVCHD output or Blu-ray in multiAVCHD?
//
The difference would be in both mpls and clpi files, because after the remux, multiAVCHD will use the new clpi from tsmuxer and will alter the mpls from tsmuxer, by adding/changing stuff in STN, chapters and extended info (if needed). But it will be better if we can compare both back to back (BDRB's and multiAVCHD's).

I'll see if I can find that one.
Here's a few menu fault debug discs for you jdobbs:
Elton John 60
Re-encoded menus = no button function. The fix was to go "MIN_M2TS_SIZE=n" with n larger than the biggest menu. I do recall that when I would manually open an original menu with tsM, it would give me a "stream not recognized" kind of error, which relates to what you said in the above quote.
Dave Matthews Radio City
No buttons after rebuild. The fix was to include all subtitles. I had "Eng only" subs selected. Somehow booting out some of the subs (I forget how many languages total were involved) canceled the menu buttons. Now I keep ALL subs ALL the time.
Baraka
If I recall, it had the same problem as Elton. On this one, I had enough headroom after rebuild to replace the recoded menus with originals & then the buttons worked.
Thank GOODNESS for BD-RE!!!

If true, this may confirm why my Sony S360 player does not see there is an audio file for the non-working backup, and will not let me change audio tracks or subtitle tracks, even though the original had several audio and subtitle tracks. ( I only kept the one Eng audio track and all subtitle tracks though)
On successful backups with BD-RB, if the original has several audio tracks, such as Eng, SPA, Fra, and perhaps an Eng commentary track, but I keep only the Eng track, if I select the audio button on the remote control, the player will still scroll thru the other audio tracks, but only the kept Eng track is played and heard. I can see on the screen the change of the tracks language, but only the Eng track keeps playing.
Not so on the non-working backup! Nothing happens.

Yes, on BDR/RE full backups, you can change the MIN_M2TS_SIZE=**** to a value above a certain m2ts file to avoid reencoding it, thus keeping the original in tact. Not so for AVCHD to BD5/9, as BD-RB needs to reencode the files to be compliant.
I have tried several times, in what I thought were clever attempts to trick BD-RB to use the original menus.. cancelling the rebuild and inserting the originals, renaming the backups to the originals, renaming the originals to the backups, etc.. but when all is complete, it does not play properly on my S360.
Now I know how much time I try testing/experimenting, :p I can only imagine what jdobbs does!

I'm trying to do Sky High (region A) to BD-25. The complete disc is 27gb and can easily fit a BD-25 untouched when removing unwanted audio tracks (lots of 'em).
Without the audio tracks, the disc is ~20gb.
I'm going crazy trying to find out why on earth does BD-RB want to reencode the main movie video.
It most certainly isn't doing it to meet size requirements. What else could it be?
Thanks :)
Edit: Definitely a bug! I've set the output size to BD25 - No dice, tries to reencode. I've set it then to manual size 24200mb - No dice, tries to reencode. Then I've set the manual size to 35000mb - and viola - no reencode.

I had this problem when using a non-recommended version of Haali Media Splitter. Make sure you run the inspect.exe that came with BD-Rebuilder.Absolutely. I'm not sure that's what is causing it in maximus rus's case, but as I've said many times... those who experiment with unproven helper apps are asking for trouble and almost always get it. I've run many hundreds of encodes (probably well over a thousand by now -- I've lost count) and have never experienced audio sync issues. In fact I can only remember once that I had to make an adjustment for audio (that someone reported) and that was a long, long time ago.

Just my personal experience...The overlaps are normal -- as I've said before. They are adjusted in the joins. The echo probably has nothing to do with this. The echo is more-than-likely playback of what was in the audio buffer at the time you skip chapters. My Sony does it on originals as well as copies.

I checked that FORCE_ENCODE wasn't set at all. I've also tried setting it to 0. I'm not larger than I think. Reminder: after forcing BD-RB to NOT reencode by setting the output size to 30+gb I then checked the output size it resulted in and it was only 19gb (as it should be, with the HD audio kept).

Don't bother folks...found the answer the old run as admin trick :) Right click on BD-RB and "Run as Administrator" -- and it will set them for you.
[Edit] Whoops. Too late with the answer...

Trying to make BD9 version of 'Se7en Deadly Sins', this is an adult movie(xxx). I am doing a movie only backup, using Automatic Quality Settings. I believe the options are default except the encoder priority which I set to normal. MKVMERGE is failing when trying to extract the audio from VID_00013. According to the stream information window from BDR there is no audio in VID_00013. Using the preview option VID_00013 is a 14 second long disclaimer screen. I am guessing that VID_00005 would fail as well as it has no audio. Using the preview option VID_00005 is a 1 second black screen.
I searched this thread and found two resolutions to this error, neither of them worked for me. The first was to reboot. The second was low disc space. My drive a: has over 1TB of free space.
This disc was ripped to the harddrive as an .iso with AnyDVDHD.

Well, I've tried FORCE_ENCODE=1 on three discs (The Green Mile, A Mighty Heart, and Starship Troopers) and though it does reencode the video now, the resulting BDMV directories, though smaller than before, are *still* too large for a BD-RE. Starship Troopers for instance was reduced to 26.64GB. Is the program just not calculating bitrates correctly for reencoding (the target size is correct)?? Should I set the target size considerably smaller than 23GiB?

Hi!This disc was ripped to the harddrive as an .iso with AnyDVDHDBefore proceeding with BD-RB, did you mount and play the .ISO image file to see if it exhibited any problems?

Please let me know what other information may be needed. The lack of an audio stream on the streams list doesn't mean that audio isn't there. When you are doing movie-only BD-RB only allows you to select from one place (to ensure consistency. When you have a multipart stream, all components are required to have the same components.
Of course that doesn't solve your problem. The problem isn't really in the audio extraction or reencoding. MKVMERGE is actually trying to convert the extracted video into an intermediate MKV file. It has to do that because field-based VC-1 sources fail to work in FFDSHOW/HAALI without doing so (the "**" next to the frame rate).
I'm not sure why its failing, I'll have to give it some thought.

@jdobbs;
I just did another test on a previous full movie backup to BD5 that experienced the same no audio heard for the main feature, with the same results. The movie is U571, a Universal title, that structurally is identical to Scorpion King. The BD-RB backup does not hear the audio of the main title, but the re-authored / remove and add external audio version from multiAVCHD works perfectly!
So going back to my backups that experience this issue, I have discovered that one common denominator is they all seem to have PiP with DTS Express secondary audio, except Batman Begins.
On all of these backups, I either chose to have BD-RB disable the PiP video, or the PiP video was not an option with BD-RB way back in the beginning ( pages 4-9 of this thread, up to 12-28-2008 ).
Some examples I have are: Scorpion King, U571, and Twilight. Batman Begins experienced this too, but it has DD Plus for secondary audio.
If these same backups were burned to BD-RE media, there is no audio problem!

Yes the mounted .iso plays fine.

Hi jdobbs,
Here's my INSPECT output:
- Windows Version: 6.0 [6000]
- AVISYNTH Version: 2.5.7.0, Ok
- HAALI Splitter: Ok
- FFDSHOW: 3326, Ok
- FFDSHOW VC-1 set to "wmv9", Ok

- BD Rebuilder v0.34.0.2, Ok
- X264: Ok
- AFTEN: Ok
- FAAC: Ok
- MP4BOX: Ok
- WAVI: Ok
- TSMUXER: Ok
and I've attached the INF's as text files. I haven't had a chance to upgrade to .04 yet; is it possible .02 is the source of the bugs?

That's means they aren't being reencoded, otherwise that would be set to the size after reencoding. Your configuration has to be hosed... It sure looks like your system has "FORCE_NOENCODE" set.
I don't think it is related to .2 -- in fact you are the only person reporting this issue.

They did reencode this time, though -- originally the process only took a couple of hours and little memory because apparently all it was doing was stripping out unwanted audio tracks. But for this batch process it took an entire weekend, maxed out my memory and CPU while running and the resulting files were significantly smaller than the first attempt (though still not small enough).
I'll attach my encode log to show that video really was being reencoded.
Again, my current INI file looks like this:
