Been using this for a couple of years and with this version(44.16) the last 3 all fail at the first video file encode after just a few min. Inspect show OK on all items. Installed all xtras exactly as the instructions say. So am going to try with 44.15. Update to follow. It's working on thousands of other systems with no issues. That makes it highly improbable that it could be the software.
Something has changed on your system. It is likely another program that has modified Directshow or Directshow preferences or another critical system without your knowledge.
I'd recommend you uninstall and reinstall AVISYNTH, HAALI, and FFDSHOW.
If that isn't it -- I'd suspect a heat related issue.

It took me another try or two to get all the blanks right, but ARGO completed with the PIP and DTSX audio working perfectly. Thanks! I guess I'm still puzzled why I was not able to BLANK this secondary program but no matter--no penalty paid in any way re: the movie itself. But in the end, I do have to remux this movie (only) again as I want/need to change one of the subtitles (remove SDH and re-position to fit the 2.40 AR).
I did BTW on the very first run get a Failed to encode error on the first video, a 720x480 interlaced (I believe) extra, and I only needed to un-check "Use DEINTERLACER on interlaced sources" and it worked. AFAICT the program on-disc is just fine, probably left as interlaced, I dunno. Anyway if "Use DEINT" is checked by default, maybe it shouldn't be...
Thanks again jdobbs.

What have I been doing wrong cause I donīt understand why there is a mistake when BD Rebuilder did the job? I am on Windows 7From the first page of this thread and the installation instructions:Note to Windows 7 & Windows 8 Users: The first time (and only the first time) you run BD Rebuilder, you may have to "Run As Administrator". This is necessary so BD-RB can make CODEC preference changes in the Windows Registry. Your preferred codecs aren't being set -- or some other program is resetting them.
It's possible that you may have installed CODEC packs or software that changes your settings without your permission -- if so you need to dump them.

I tried what you said found some media programs in my directory and uninstalled them and cleaned the registry. It seem to work I am trying to encode now and I guess if I donīt get any error messages the problem are solved. I will update on this :thanks:

I have the BD Rebuilder version 0.44.16 (beta).
I installed the ffdshow version ffdshow_rev4504_20130312_clsid.exe and checked H.264 / AVC: libavcodec, MPEG-2: libmpeg2 and VC-1: wmv9. In the video configuration mpeg2 and vc-1 is enabled.
I installed the matroska splitter from the first page.
Avisynth 2.58 is installed.
I also started BD Rebuilder as admin. In the settings I changed the target size to 24500 and chose this size.
But it keeps on aborting.
Anyone know why?

20 minutes would definitely allow for a substantial amount of heat. I would check your temps. I don't like seeing any temp over 58 - 60C. Unless it's the GPU. The graphics card can handle a great deal more.
An overclock could cause a stability issue as well.

I reinstalled every software and now it works again. Sorry :)Check around for other software that may be interfering (CODEC packs etc.). Some packages are downright rude in the way they change settings or intercept normal CODEC flows without telling you. If you'd don't remove the offender it might happen again.

I'm not a noob, but I'm clearly not as techy as some of the people here as a lot of the intercourse goes right over my head. Anyway, it seems that every couple of months I have to uninstall and reinstall BDRB, Haali, FFshow and avisyth to get BDRB to function. Last week I encoded Star Trek without issue, then this week I had fits with World War Z. I'm afraid I deleted the logfile, but it's the same as I've posted here a couple of times before, something about not enough buffer and a failure to encode. I run spybot and malawarebytes every week or 2, could that be removing something need to encode? You tell picotto to "check around for other software that might be interferring..." How do I go about that? Is there a list of "usual suspects" that I can search for. I'm kinda getting tired of doing this every month or so.
Thanks

ThanksNot really. If you have anything called a "CODEC pack" get rid of it. FFDSHOW has a CODEC for virtually everything under the sun -- and is all you ever really need.
I just did "World War Z" a couple of days ago -- no issues. Generally the "buffer" type messages are related to a bad rip, though. What are you using to rip? I used AnyDVD HD -- which in my opinion is head-and-shoulders above any other ripping software.

19th September 2013, 22:45
Yes, I use AnyDVDHD. Everytime this has happened, I process the same rip again after uninstalling and reinstalling and it works without a problem. Same thing yesterday with WWZ, tried twice, no joy, then did the reinstall and it worked fine. That's the part that's confusing, I use the same rip so apparently it's something else. I don't believe I have any other codecs, unless it's called by some other name or contained in some other software or player.

I have updated the first post of this thread with links to the most recent update of BD-RB (v0.44.17). Changes for this release:- Added code in movie-only mode that extracts
forced subtitles into an independent stream
and sets them to "selected" for playback.
- Added a new hidden option "FORCED_SUB_LANG"
that allows a user to select which language
is preferred for forced subs. The default
is "eng" -- and it will be also be used when
no forced subtitle is found in the preferred
language.
- Added routine to hard-encode forced subtitles
into non-DVD ALTERNATE output. It can also
include any subtitle that is selected to be
forced from the STREAMS list. Note: This
capability requires the installation of the
free external AVISYNTH filter SUPTITLE() and
its selection in the SETUP dialog. While the
SUPTITLE filter is free, it cannot be freely
distributed, so you must download it and
properly install it from this link:
http://www.zachsaw.com/?pg=suptitle_pgs_avisynth_plugin
- Implemented a workaround for DVD sources that
have video kept intact. Some DVDs have the
embedded video ratio incorrectly set (and it
is overridden by the IFO file). This fixes
that issue.
- Corrected an issue in which attempting to import
small video files can result in Error 00009 at
2501.
- Corrected an issue related to importing variable
fps video (e.g. iPhone).
- Updated the included version of X264.EXE to the
latest release (r2358).
- Updated the included version of X264-64.EXE to
the latest release (r2358).
- Other minor corrections and cosmetic fixes.

Thank you so much for the continued improvements of this great program.
The question I have is about the ambiguity of some 3-letter language code like "ger" or "deu" for German. Can I add both codes like "ger;deu"?

That's a weird looking disc. It looks like almost all of the individual files are taking less than second to encode. Either they're only a few frames each -- or the encodes are failing and it isn't being caught.

[00:00:12] - Failed to REBUILD
I looked in the "WORKFILES" folder and, sure enough, the referenced *.264 file wasn't there.
I noticed that the combined size of all the various parts didn't look too big, so I ran it again with a larger target size (so that it wouldn't re-encode) and it completed fine that time, and the size came in at only about 20GB.
I've run several rebuilds since with no problem, but they are simpler processes - mostly a single m2ts file. I had the feeling that there may be a glitch here with titles that comprise lots of parts. I could run it again if that would be useful for testing purposes.

@jdobbs
Yeah I have had a few discs like this before but they usually finish without issues, there is 2 cuts of the main movie on it so that's why I am trying a full backup, doing the main movie alone it contains 16 files it needs to work with but it does complete, I might have to do both movies separate to keep both, it's a strange one.

Thank you so much for the continued improvements of this great program.
The question I have is about the ambiguity of some 3-letter language code like "ger" or "deu" for German. Can I add both codes like "ger;deu"? I was just adding that multiple-selection feature, and I noticed there was an issue in selecting an alternate forced-subtitle language in v0.44.17. You always end up with English forced subs (if they are there). I've fixed it for the next release.

Confirm setting MULTIPROCESS=0 in the INI file did the trick, thanks.I'll have to look at that one and see if it was trying to split a file a file for multiprocessing that was too small to split.

I am REALLY confused about this. I read the updated features in the 2nd to last version I think. And I'm pretty SURE that it said that you can imports a NUMBER of DVDs together as long as they are in the same folder.
So, I have 3 DVDs, DVD-A's to be precise, but I THINK the structure is the same as a normal DVD. I have 3 folders, each with the complete DVD structure inside (IFO, VOB's, etc.) Obviously within the same folder, I cannot call ALL of them 'VIDEO_TS', so they have the name of each album instead, and all 3 are in the same folder which is called by the name of the group. But, when I go to import either the folder containing all 3 DVD folders OR if I try to import any one of them individually, I get an error saying 'Selected source is not a DVD format'
Weird, it wouldn't accept ANY of the folders with the DVD content inside of it. So, I changed the name of ONE of the folders containing the DVD structure of one of the albums to 'VIDEO_TS' and lo and behold, when I selected the parent folder of the 3 albums it DID accept the one folder that I changed the name to 'VIDEO_TS' and loaded it! But, it did NOT recognize the other two. Again, I cannot name ALL 3 folders within the same parent folder 'VIDEO_TS', so I tried creating folders within the album title folders and naming THEM 'VIDEO_TS' and I'm getting the exact same error that I got before and it is not accepting any of them.
Very strange because it accepted the first album and the structures in all 3 folders are the same, but I cannot name ALL of them 'VIDEO_TS'. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks!
(edit)
Actually, after creating a folder called 'VIDEO_TS' in each album folder and then putting the DVD structure in those and thereby having a 'VIDEO_TS' folder as a subfolder of each album, THEN when I went back and used the 'browse' tab instead of the File-Import tab and selected the Group Parent folder, it DID indeed recognize all 3 albums and loaded them. So, I don't know exactly WHY it did that after my creating the 2nd level of 'VIDEO_TS' folders or why using the 'Browse' button worked, but somehow it did.
Heh, after going through all that, I noticed that the total size of the content which is SUPPOSED to be 3 dual-layer DVD-A's was only around 3.4 Gigs I was mystified. But then I realized that after extracting the DVD folders from the original ISO images, I bloody FORGOT to add the 'AUDIO' folders which had about half of the information! Bright one! Anyway, I'm now going back WITH the AUDIO folders alongside the 'VIDEO_TS' folders and I will see what I get :)
At least in my stumbling around I somehow figured out how to get it to recognize and load the DVDs.
(edit 2)
Well, sadly after doing all that, it did NOT recognize the 'AUDIO_TS' folders or the content in them. I STILL got about a 3.4 Gig result :( Maybe it just doesn't recognize the high end Audio in the AUDIO_TS folders for some reason. I got the DTS 1500 mixes okay, but not the higher quality audio. I guess I'm just gonna hafta burn them separately like usual. Perhaps BDRB will recognize REGULAR DVD movies or DVD concerts as opposed to DVD-A discs if I try to group them together next time.
If anyone has any further insights, please by all means let me know.
Thanks kindly!

@Lathe
BAND A
DVD a DVD b DVD c
Video_TS Video_TS Video_TS
This is the structure for importing multiple DVD's. AUDIO_TS folders tend to be empty.
Check keep hd audio in set up and enter KEEP_HD_LPCM=1 into the configuration.

Yeah, I kinda thought so... I figured I was probably pushing it trying DVD-A's
Thanks kindly to both of you for taking the time to reply! Thanks Gonca for the detailed instructions; I think I finally stumbled onto that... :)
Appreciate the excellent addition of that feature though JDobbs; brilliant and extremely useful idea!

Failed to rebuild message below. I uninstalled and reinstalled FFshow, Haaili and Avisynth and BDRB with the same results. I would appreciate any help. I will try a different movie to see if it's a bad rip.

Not much info found searching this thread, Doom9, or Google.

This is from a later run after I tried moving BD-RD from C:\Program Files (x86) to C:\. The only other change was the working folder (to keep from overwriting the other files).
Has anyone done a movie-only backup of Breaking Dawn Part 2? Any suggestion on how I should proceed?

Hi,
I generally use BD-Rebuilder for making - 2 Pass Target Size - MKV's.
When i open a 2-pass MKV with MediaInfo and i look at the encoding settings i got this:
Encoding settings: cabac=1 / ref=4 / deblock=1:0:0 / analyse=0x3:0x113 / me=umh / subme=8 / ....... vbv_maxrate=15000 / vbv_bufsize=15000 ...
When i set BD-Rebuilder to CRF 19, the encoding settings are almost the same except: vbv_maxrate=30000 / vbv_bufsize=30000.
I would like to have the same vbv_maxrate and vbv_bufsize (30000) for a 2-pass MKV encoding. Or 35000 - 30000 as in a BD Output.
Is it possible to set that in BD-Rebuilder?
Best regards.

Best regards.Currently for 2 pass BD-RB will look at your bitrate and it will only boost the buffer/maxrate higher if you average bitrate is greater than 12Mbs (12000). Otherwise you are you'd be creating a buffer that is greater than 2 seconds at the average bitrate -- which seems large.
The CRF encodes are done at the higher max rate & buffer because it is unpredictable what actual average rate will be needed to hit your quality level.
Either way -- if you're playing off a hard drive, fast network, or aren't streaming off a limited network the higher buffer isn't really needed and it can delay the video start.
With that said -- I can always add a hidden variable that lets you set your own max_rate/vbv_size.
Is there a specific reason you need the larger buffer? Are you experiencing buffer issues of some type?

I watch those MKV's with a Dune mediaplayer (built-in hard disk) on a 40 inch led tv. Did some testing and it seems to me, that the one with the higher vbv_maxrate has a slightly better quality. Bitrate's of the movie (The Great Gatsby) are about the same (+- 8600 Kbs). That looks a bit strange to me, because i thought that a 2-pass encoding gives better quality than a CRF encoding.
I'd once had on the Dune an buffer underrun, with vbv_maxrate and vbv_bufsize=15000, but i think it wasn't a BD-Rebuiler problem.
You're suggestion to add an hidden option to set "manually" vbv_maxrate and vbv_bufsize for a 2-pass MKV encoding; that's a great idea.
Best regards.

Two pass doesn't necessarily give better quality -- it just makes sure the output size is predictable. That's important when you have to fit your output on a DVD or BD disc, but not really that important for most MKV applications. It's more accurate to say that 2-pass gives the best quality available at a given average bitrate and CRF gives the most consistent quality level (keeping the Q about the same no matter how complex the picture) but with lots of variability in output size. The max bitrate would make a difference only in the most complex picture elements (assuming it is reasonable) -- and that would apply to both methods.
MKV vbv buffer/maxrate settings will be available in the next release. Be careful, though, you don't want to set the max bitrate too high. I used the 30Mbs value because it can be supported within the limitations of a blu-ray disc (e.g. storing MKVs on a BD-R). You'd likely have to increase resolution beyond 1080p to need more than that.

"MKV vbv buffer/maxrate settings will be available in the next release." Thanks Mr. Jdobbs!
And I will keep in mind your advice, that the value of the vbv buffer/maxrate does not exceed 30000.

Don't those audio setting prevent the re-encoding of the audio? If you keep the HD audio tracks then you'll have no room left for the video in a target that small.
Woah,... did something change in your post from when I originally looked at it? It thought you originally had the target size set for a single-layer DVD (<5GB).
But being as it now has a target size of 25GB then,... I dunno. I did a movie-only backup of that title with success.

Look in your Jar directory for an unusally large folder, possibly like 06000. This might be a form of protection.
