i installed bdinfo, but i dont know what i am supposed to do to bypass that black screen, whatever file is making it do it

I suspect there isn't one, I think it just goes black because it's finished playing the previous file and can't start the next one. If you have this issue then you need to try re-ripping from the original with an up to date decryption program

Hi!

If you're referring to the TEMPORARY blackscreen that we see on all recent 20th Century Fox Blu-rays, if you listen very closely to your player, you'll hear the drive thrashing - it's DOING "stuff" (probably related to java and protection) for 15 to 20 seconds - and then a new Fox logo appears.

If this is what you're experiencing, it's nothing out of the ordinary...

I let it sit for 5 minutes and it never went anywhere, just sat at the black screen

1) What player (and player version number) are you using for playback? (You should use a standalone player)

2) What software and procedures did you use to initially "rip" your commercial Blu-ray discs?

AnyDVD taking forever is a very strong indication of a bad disk. It may be a simple case of finger smudges on the disk that can be easily cleaned off.

It can also be caused by the disc not being decrypted properly. you need to go back and re-rip the original disc with the latest version of the decryption software (if it's AnyDVD HD then look at the beta's). If it still doesn't work then report it to the maker of the decryption software as it's probably a JAVA issue that may need fixing for that disc

Well i just have the weirdest issue ever. did a full disc backup of snow white & the huntsman. All trailers etc have audio, like the main disc. Menu has audio however there's 1 big problem. Retail disc = audio, full disc backup: no audio on movie with standalone player and i think i narrowed down the problem.

TMT 5 plays the audio descriptive track by default for extended version, when playing on the standalone. No audio (when selecting dutch on the 1st menu screen, ditto for english selecting on menu)
The Anydvd rip before shrinking does not have that problem.

PDVD 10 doesnt give any audio at all. So it looks like something went wrong with the AUD_003 DTS-HD XLL, Multi-Ch, English stream and TMT5 defaults to the descriptive audio track. Retail disc & full disc anydvd rip play just fine on TMT 5 & Standalone (for retail disc)

Standalone is Panasonic DMP-BD85

Sorry.

I did play it in my standalone player on my tv and it still did the same thing, i already said i tried a regular dvd player, not just a computer, and i even re-ripped the movie and it says this now instead of the black screen

"this disc has been coded for Region A only and will not play in your Region B Blu-Ray Player, but i dont have a region b player only a usa region a player

I'm not sure if this is a bug with BDRebuilder, But I just did a main movie only with the movie Prometheus and it shranked the movie down to 6.45GB, I doubled checked an I had the correct setting to BD25 and this is the first time this has happen.

ok, just did a standard "full disc backup" & kept all english streams. Same thing, descriptive audio on the main movie in TMT 5, no audio at all on standalone & PDVD 10. Retail disc plays just fine. I don't know if its because there's a extended version & cinema version. But i do believe it has something to do with it. on the retail disc the descriptive audio should only be available to the cinema version. That's probably confusing BDRB

i fixed it by taking the jar files from another movie and replacing them and it works perfect now

Then your decryption software wasn't decrypting it properly and taking java files from another movie may cause you other issues as they are built for each movie.

this is true i suppose but i watched it and it work flawlessly, but i did it from another movie from company F0X and the black screen showed a moving java file and it worked

Adbear

Still doesn't mean it'll work properly, JAVA menu's are built individually for each film as are the files which is why you sometimes get issues such as this. You should just go back and re-rip it using the latest beta build of AnyDVD HD, if it still has an issue after that then post up on their forum with a logfile and it'll probably be fixed with in a day

What method did you use to encode? 2-pass? 1-pass CRF? 1-pass ABR?

I've encountered a similar bug in 1-pass CRF so I'm curious if this is the same problem.

The conversion is run as a batch job (in order to redirect the output of WAVI into AFTEN). So that might be another place to look. Unfortunately this is definitely a rights/privilege issue, which is specific to your system. It's tough to debug one of those on a forum, there are lots of possibilities.

Hello Jdobbs

finally works. I did two things.
first: remove accents (') that had the names of the folders.
second: BDRebuilder delete folder and start again, clear up the history records.

thanks and congratulations.

doesn't CRF REQUIRE two passes?

jdobbs

doesn't CRF REQUIRE two passes?

I assume you mean in prediction? Not necessarily. If the first pass is within a range of what the sample target size should be -- it is assumed to be the right CRF value.

If you mean, is CRF normally an object of a two pass encode. No. It is meant to be a 1 pass option (Constant Rate Factor) that gives you more of a "quality" based target than a quantization based target for rate control (i.e --qp). In BD-RB it is first preceded by 1-n prediction passes using representative samples of the source that try to estimate the final output size. That is followed by a final (single) pass using the selected CRF value from the predictions.

The upside to CRF in BD-RB that it creates higher quality output (in most cases) than an ABR single pass typically would without adding on the additional time of a complete 1st pass. The downside is that although it is often accurate -- samples can sometimes be deceiving and you might get output that is under or oversized.

From your post:

- [11:49:29] Performing CRF Prediction...
- Analyzing 19.00 [34.50]
- [11:49:41] Encoding using constant rate factor.

Yes, it's exactly like that. In some uncommon cases, BD-RD does just 1 prediction run before embarking on the full encode and it uses a CRF value that clearly does not make sense.

In the case above, encoding @ CRF 19.00 on the sample apparently resulted in a bitrate that was close to the desired bitrate. You can verify this because the WORKFILES dir contains the .264 file from the last prediction encode and you can use a tool to read its bitrate.

So BD-RD decided to exit the prediction "run loop" and encode the whole video. The problem of course is that it used 34.50 instead of either say 18.95 or 19.05. CRF 34.50 would have been used for the 2 prediction run.

It's a simple problem, possibly fixed by changing a single line of code.

staros, I fiqured it out, There was no problem, What happen was when I converted a blu-ray to dvd9 I forgot to go back to alternate movie-only output and change it back to standard output.

Great that you confirm my observation. Fortunately it only happens in those rare cases with the lucky punch in the first CRF prediction round.
Perhaps jdobbs can occasionally look into it ;)

Anybody ever had the problem where the encode completed and the file was nowhere to be found? I had 1 movie out of 12 batch (all original BD rips by AnyDVD HD) that were to output to MKV (to the same directory), all perfect output but Up (2009) only the .INF exists, and no errors. It's odd to say the least, and I can post more (logs) if nobody else has experienced this w/ solution. It has happened for the 2nd time, so it is recurring and I would like to put a stop to it. I watched the particular bd-rb process for the subject title upon 2nd attempt to begin and all did seem normal, so what the heck?

Are you sure it didn't just error out and then skip on to the next movie, I've had that before when doing full disc backups, queuing up 5 or 6 films then coming back later to find it didn't do one of them

No one seems to wrote about this anything, but when i used BD-Rebuilder 0.42.03 to this new Indiana Jones box disc 5 (bonus disc), came out 25.3GB large so its over 2GB too big (target size is selected BD-25).
All movie discs in that box set worked perfectly fine with BD-Rebuilder.

My Indiana Jones box is European so its region B, but what i read elsewhere content in region A box should be same except subs and some audio languages, so same should happen US version also i think.

Any suggestion?

I have pretty basic settings in BD-Rebuilder used and no hidden options used, or should i post some logs or configs too?
Just english audio kept (keep HD audio selected), + english and finnish subtitles, all others removed. No errors reported during or after rebuilding process.

Yes, :logfile:. Maybe some setting is causing the problem.

@jdobbs

In "movie only" mode I often experience an error: "ExtractAudioSubs() 00058 1605". It does not occur during full movie backup, however, I guess it is not an error related to BDRebuilder itself but to my system configuration (the last command is the x264 line. Inspect says everything is ok...)
Could you tell me what the error means that would help me get my system straight.
Thanks

Great that you confirm my observation. Fortunately it only happens in those rare cases with the lucky punch in the first CRF prediction round.
Perhaps jdobbs can occasionally look into it ;)Anyone have an NTSC example and settings that I can use that will repeat it? If I can follow the code I might be able to find what's causing the goofiness.

Check the name. If you are running a batch and the output name is the same as one of your previous encodes, you are not asked "Do you want to overwrite?" -- it is just written.

MrIntegral That error is "File already exists.". That error is occuring at a point where BD-RB is attempting to rename the output of extracted audio on a multi-part source. If you can give me a title where this occurs and your settings at the point it happens I may be able to repeat it and identify the cause.

@ jdobbs RE: Anyone have an NTSC example and settings that I can use that will repeat it? If I can follow the code I might be able to find what's causing the goofiness.

Don't know if the CRF is the reason but try to do Prometheus and do movie and menus. Blank every thing but leave all the english and spanish audio and all subs. I did a custom 24250 size, and this got me a whopping 24.3gb. So I next did a custom 50000 and let it complete. It came out like 42.6gb. I next ran this encode back thru, first trying full backup, custom size 23500. This got me a a 22000gb. I always like to get the max bitrate on a 25 disk, usually trying to get 22.9gb but after running it 6 different time and increasing it 250ms each time, I finally ended up just keepig all 4 of the english audios and 4subs and giving up at 22.8 after deleting all the other audio to get it down to that. BD_Rebuilder does not like some movies with lots of audio and subs and it does the goldilocks filesize output. This movie was the absolute hardest to get "JUST RIGHT", but I really like the movie and wanted to have the best possible bitrate devoted to it. I think some of the really high bitrate movies give it a hard time estimating the final output especially when you are pushing the filesize limit like I am doing.

RE: Thanks jdobbs, I really enjoy using BD_RB and think it is the best HD backup program I have ever used, thanks again. Also Thanks to drmih for the 3D program tip, I have used it to back-up Prometheus and 4 other 3D movies so far and have been pleasantly surprised how well they turn out. I just wish I had the ability to blank some of the stuff like BD_Rebuilder does and get the filesize down.

worknstiff: You do, or rather BD-RB does. Check the "HIDDENOPTS.TXT" inside the BD-RB directory. :D

I don't believe this is a BD-Rebuilder, i'm willing to bet that on the original blu-ray the subtitles are also in that location? If they are, then BDRB rebuilt to DVD correctly and there is nothing that can be done.

@jdobbs:
You can see from my settings that I haven't limited the audio / subtitles to one track. I always do two languages and subtitles.

It does not really depend on the title (in 90% of all cases I see that error - Usually I remux the main movie with tsmuxer to bluray disk and convert full movie with BDRebuilder. Ok, not very elegant but works perfectly) and I remember on very early versions of BDRebuilder I did not experience that error.

04203 has started acting up. I did 30+ titles on it without any problems, but now it can't finish anything without crashing at least once. It either stops on a "Failed video encode" error right at the beginning of pass 1:

- [13:03:24] Reencoding: VID_00102, Pass 1 of 2
- Encode failed. Aborting.
- BD-Rebuilder v0.42.03 (beta)
- Windows Version: 6.1 [7601]
- AVISYNTH Version: 2.5.8.0, Ok
- HAALI Splitter: 1.11.96.14, Ok
- FFDSHOW: 3882, Ok
- WIN7 preferred AVC CODEC: Ok
- WIN7 preferred VC-1 CODEC: Ok
- WIN7 preferred MPEG2 CODEC: Ok
- FFDSHOW VC-1 set to "wmv9", Ok
- FFDSHOW MPEG2 set to "libavcodec": Ok
- FFDSHOW AVC set to "libavcodec": Ok
- AnyDVD settings check: Ok.
- X264: Ok
- AFTEN: Ok
- FAAC: Ok
- MP4BOX: Ok
- WAVI: Ok
- TSMUXER: Ok
[13:03:30] - Failed video encode, aborted

or at some point during pass 2, with x264.exe simply giving up. It is still eating 629MB of RAM but does nothing. BD-RB waits patiently for x264 and lets me Abort encoding.

I'm running BD-RB on a laptop, haven't changed hardware or installed new applications. At some point I did let Windows 7 (x64 Ultimate) install some Security updates, but that's the only thing I can think of that has changed recently.

Update: I checked Event Viewer and found something interesting in the Application Log:

Faulting application name: DGIndexNV.exe, version: 0.0.0.2041, time stamp: 0x4f332c75
Faulting module name: DGIndexNV.exe, version: 0.0.0.2041, time stamp: 0x4f332c75
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x00023985
Faulting process id: 0x1024

I'll try updating DGIndexNV to v2043 and perhaps updating to newer Nvidia drivers.

I'd suggest you remove all the helper apps (HAALI, AVISYNTH, and FFDSHOW) and install them again. When it starts acting up after a history of successful encodes, one of those (or a dependency) has usually been "adjusted" by another application.
