Back to forced sub titles...
I just did The Walk.... Other than slight offset time difference (like a few thousandths of a second), the SRT of the forced subs made by BDRB looks the same as the SRT made the manual way (HdBrStreamExtractor/SubTitleEdit)
So the forced sub issue on MI5 maybe movie specific.

I just tested it with an NTSC DVD source and it works fine. Unfortunately I don't have a PAL disc to test.
[Edit] Never mind, I found one in a box. I knew I had some for testing. I'll run some tests and see what I can find.
Found a NTSC that does it. STEALTH

File sizes of all intermediate files are correct and the files are playable.
I tried with another DVD. Same problem. Alternate output to .mkv with intact audio and intact video fails, outputting a small .mkv only which is not playable. BD-RB finishes without error though.I just ran a PAL DVD several times using every setting change I could imagine... and it imported fine and rebuilt to an MKV fine (using intact).
Could you post your settings? I can't find anything wrong.

Unfortunately debugging the subtitle streams isn't as simple as one might think. Just when you think you've found consistency -- there's an exception that comes along.

With the PayPal issue there is no point in you spending money if it isn't needed

[01.12.16] Systems Settings Check complete
With the exception of the x264.exe, yes. But this should not matter for intact video, -- and everything goes well when I re-encode the video.
I double checked the MKVMERGE and MKVEXTRACT. It's the version which came with BD-RB (maybe you want to include these in the versions check?). Strange.
Now you mention versions: I upgraded DGIndexNV recently to version 2051. Let me try with the former one.
I'll report back.
Edit:
No luck. Same problem. I will try now with the latest version of MKVMERGE .....
Edit2:
Success! MKVMERGE version 8.8.0.0 solved the problem.

Not a bug report, just a question.
Can BD Rebuilder be "fooled" into performing the rebuild phase without needing to extract and encode all of the A/V streams again if you first select No subtitles and then select All subtitles?
The job was a full backup of a blu-ray output to 25 GB.
Just curious as I notice that all of the .sup files are in the Workfiles folder anyway.
Thanks!

CoreyFirst select all subs in setup. Then open up the appropriate INF file in the working folder and then edit the SUBS_TO_KEEP line. Just set it to "all" (without the quotes). It should then rebuild using all the subs.

Maybe I am missing something, but when I tried that, it still tells me the working path is not empty, delete all old files?
No aborts the process, yes starts from scratch. I even tried deleting the movie output folder, just the files in the output folder, and get the same message.
Any ideas?
Thanks again,

17th January 2016, 15:29
That message comes up when one of the settings has changed (a difference between the INF and the current settings). If you first select all the subs, and then edit the INF -- the settings should match. Have you changed any other settings? You did edit the INF for that specific job, right? Not the INI?
nozuul
17th January 2016, 20:36
Yeah, it was the INF file I fiddled with, while matching the settings, or so I thought. I thought subtitles were the only thing I messed with, so I must have done something wrong. Strange.
So my problem was with Fox Entertainment titles only. Fantastic? Four and the incredibly fantastic The Martian. Subs were on when I played the backups even though the player was set to no subtitles. I ran The Scorch Trials at the same time I did those, and it did not have that issue.
Then I checked my version of Rebuilder and saw that it was the second to last release. I installed the newest and tried again. No luck. Subs remained on. I was trying to run it again with or without subs without a complete re-start, but I had no luck with that as well.
What did work was just not including any Subs. :)
Thanks for the help.

Something is out-of-whack. BD Rebuilder doesn't have the ability to override your player settings (and couldn't even if it wanted to). The only way that could happen is if you hard-coded the subtitles into the picture.

Although I haven't made any system changes recently (other than updating MPC-HC to the most recent version), I re-ran both of the above mentioned Universal titles I was having problems with after uninstalling and reinstalling BD Rebuilder and related software.
Low and behold re-encoding the DTS-MA to AC3 w/BD9 worked like it's supposed to. Don't know if updating MPC-HC had anything to do with my problem, as it has it's own set LAV Filters built-in which may have caused conflicts. Also don't know why it didn't work with just Universal titles. I opted not to install the LAV Filters w/BD Rebuilder this time and everything seems to be back to normal. I now return you to your regularly scheduled back-ups... ;^)

Thanks for the update. Sometimes other software, especially video related software, may change registry settings etc. that might affect BD-RB. Luckily, as was your case, a reinstall often fixes it.

I agree it is strange, but I can't figure it out. It is not hard coded though. I tried the disks on a friends different BD player as well and the English subs were on unless a different language was selected, at which time the English subs were replaced by said language. I even tried selecting English to see if that would be off in this case.
Only other info I could provide is that I do have SupTitle installed in AVI synth. I also have the box checked for forced alternate subs, however, I was doing complete disk backups and had not made any modifications to the subtitle selections in the Stream window. In other words, I did not right click English and select Turn On.
Anyway, maybe just a quirk. It works by selecting none.
Thanks again.

Just curious...
I don't do this often, but when importing an HEVC encoded MKV file (I think I did it once before) I notice while 'preparing' the files it says 'Converting codec to compatible format' Okay, understandable. But, since it isn't actually 'encoding' the movie yet like it normally does, what EXACTLY is it doing to 'convert' from HEVC to x264 and yet it hasn't actually started the official encode yet...? It also takes a LONG time too, and I also see the x264 in my task manager. So, is it actually doing kind of a 'Pre' encode first or what? And since the normal parameters for the 'Official' re-encode aren't even set yet, what exactly is it doing and what parameters is it using to convert it to x264 since I haven't set anything yet...?
Just curious, since I really don't use this feature with HEVC very often.
Thanks!

Thanks!Since HEVC isn't a part of the BD standard, the picture is being reencoded to AVC (at an almost lossless CRF setting). If you look at the resulting M2TS file you'll see it is pretty big.
It's interesting that you'd mention this. In the next release of BD-RB I have changed the way it acts with HEVC. Since I recently realized that the latest release of TSMUXER will allow it, the new BD-RB version will mux it intact into the pseudo-BD folder. It will also do the same with AAC audio -- even though neither of the two types are a part of the BD standard. I've decided that since it's a "pseudo" folder that might already have illegal characteristics anyway, I should avoid the additional encoding required.
I've also added a new experimental "ARCHIVE" mode for backing up that will allow a fixed quality (CRF) archive backup (in AVC or HEVC) of a disc. The HEVC archive wouldn't be meant for direct playback -- but instead for keeping a high-quality yet low storage space backup of a complete disc for future access. At some point in the future I expect HEVC to be supported in BD (for UHD/4K) - and hopefully it will support its use for SD/HD as well.
You should see the new version of BD-RB in the next day or two.

Wow, that is most interesting! Thank you kindly for taking the time to explain this. Hmmm, lossless, that makes sense.
The 'Archive' feature sounds quite intriguing, since I mirror or back up a lot of my more critical, rare, or foreign Blu-rays in full now on HDDs and they DO take up a LOT of space. I wonder how much quality would be lost backing them up in HEVC and then if later you have to retrieve them, extracting them back into BDMV form?
Sounds great, thanks again!

regardsI'm not aware of a newer version... that was the one I was referencing. It supports HEVC and AAC muxing into a BD format. It sets the types to 0x6 (for HEVC) and 0xF (for AAC) when it muxes them. Neither those types nor those formats are a part of the BD standard.

I have updated the first post of this thread with a link to the most recent update to BD Rebuilder (v0.50.12). Changes for this release:- Fixed an error that could cause an encode
failure on imported sources when their size
adjustment might result in an odd height.
- Updated FRIMEncode command line so hardware
encoding (when selected) is explicitly
called out.
- Corrected an issue in which selecting FRIM
as the primary encoder for 2D was failing
when LAV filters were in use (rather than
FFDSHOW).
- Corrected an issue in which selecting LAVF
while CRF was enabled could fail to properly
disable it.
- Fixed a problem in which forced subtitles
and/or SRT converted titles might "hang" at
some points. Also fixes possible missing
subtitles in SRT conversion.
- Added an experimental ARCHIVE mode to the
MODE menu. It must be enabled by adding an
ARCHIVE_ENABLE=1 setting to the INI (see
HIDDENOPTS.TXT). This mode does a full
backup using a fixed quality level (user
selectable). Output size is variable based
upon the selected ARCHIVE_CRF setting. Good
for creating archival full backups that will
use the minimum space necessary for a given
quality.
- Modified the handling of HEVC/AAC sources
during import. They are no longer forced to
be reencoded before being remuxed into the
pseudo-BD structure. This eliminates encoding
twice, once during import and again when
creating final BD folder. It also enables
the capability of HEVC-based ARCHIVE backups
(note: HEVC & AAC are, as yet, not a part of
the BD standard).
- Updated the source engine so it can handle
sources that contain HEVC & AAC video/audio
tracks (with TSMUXER style type descriptors).
Note: This type of source is not, as yet, a
part of the BD standard.
- Update MKVMERGE and MKVEXTRACT to a newer
(v8.8.0.0) release.
- Updated the included version of X265 to a
newer release (01/05/2016).
- Updated the included version of X264.EXE to
the latest release (r2665).
- Updated the included version of X264-64.EXE
to the latest release (r2665).
- Other minor corrections and cosmetic fixes.

Hmm .... is this the same for alternate output?
My source is a BD 1920x1080, alternate output is .mkv, 1280x720, profile [0018] in alternate.txt
The script:
#Created by BD Rebuilder - v0.50.12
LoadPlugin("C:\Program Files Video\DGdecNV\DGDecodeNV.dll")
DGSource("C:\TEMP\BD REBUILDER\WORKFILES\VID_00012.DGI", fieldop=0)
Spline16Resize(1280,720)
ConvertToYV12().AssumeFPS(24000,1001)
I do not have DOWNRESIZE= or UPRESIZE= in my .ini......
jdobbs
24th January 2016, 17:09
It follows a different path with ALTERNATE. I'll check it out.
[Edit] Ok. I looked at it, and the UPRESIZE value is being used when outputting to 1280x720 in ALTERNATE mode. Apparently I made a wrong assumption there. Of course it won't hurt anything, as Spline16Resize will work fine... but it should change filters depending upon the input video's size, and it's not.

Thanks, that worked. I've been using and updating BDRB for years and this is the first time I heard (or had to) run it as admin with a new install. It's in the instructions in the first post of this thread and the README.TXT file.

It's a little late but I just wish to thank you for the new version of BD Rebuilder.

Don't know if think is a bug error.
Spy after running bdrb (latest) about 10 min into it the lip-sync goes way off. When the file is played through my Oppo be 105d. It plays better through the PC but now the video becomes shaky frequently. The original plays fine as does the rip from the PC.
It has been a very long time since I had an issue that was caused by bdrb. So this may be some other issue.Uninstall BD-RB, LAV Filters, and AVISYNTH -- and then reinstall them. The only time I've heard of issues with sync is when some other program has intercepted or interfered with the DirectShow process stream. Reinstalling usually fixes it.

should there be any quality difference, one being noticeably better than the other, in using the FRIM (I'm guessing equals Intel Quicksync since I'm using on-board HD4600 video) vs the x264 one ?
jdobbs - thanks for the great update that makes FRIM work painlessly, just as a reference I did an encode yesterday - highest quality 2 pass and x264 took just over 5 hrs, exact same disk/settings except selected FRIM and it ran barely an hour, FPS during encode were in the 180's

For one thing FRIM only does one-pass ABR encoding... so that limits it considerably. But, if the encoding isn't that challenging, you probably won't notice a difference. I think where you would see it is in the encodes that need a lot of compression (e.g. outputting to a BD-5 or BD-9 [DVD media]).

Then I think I should be fine going with FRIM usually, I almost always go to BD-25 just to get it to one disk with all the extras/subs/xtra audio tracks gone. I'll keep it in mind and use x264 to do the alternate ones I compress down to put on my iPad though - thanks

Hello.
i have a question about Harry Potter 1 Ultimate Edition.
When i try to resize the movie to bd-25 size, the subtitles are displayed at the correct time, but the audio and the movie itself is a bit behind the further the movie is.
At the beginning everything is fine.
And the original is also doing it perfectly.
It doesn't matter if i do a full or a movie only backup btw.
Does anybody else here got the same problem?
For the other movies it is working great!!

Hey, I was just trying the new version with that same HEVC file (MKV) that I did before and asked about. But, it LOOKS like it is doing the exact same thing...??? After extracting the A/V files, it also began 'converting into a compatible format' Isn't this newer version simply supposed to create a Pseudo folder and THEN later during the actual encode, do whatever conversions that it needs to do?
Did I miss something...?
Yep, I just checked the Temp/Import folder, and it LOOKS like after extracting the HEVC file it is definitely creating a new x264 file.
Hmmmmm....???
