Your previous post suggested 23040 was the default output size for BD-25 :p Unless I read it wrong, in which I Humbly apologize.

I think I'll probably just stick with the Default. and hope for 22.5Gb like you average. I've now seen 2 movies though that completed at 21.7 and 21.8Gb. I suppose 2 movies out of 20 - 30 movies isn't a bad frequency ;) I did "Dinner for Schmucks" with the custom setting of 23450, and what appears to be the same settings as you, and it came out at 22.4GB. That's right in line with what it should be.

And the calculations should have been identical for bd rebuilder then. That boggles my mind LOL! aw well. I personally watched the backup. Funny movie ;)

Hi!

The tile of this thread is quite clear - It is for reporting bugs ONLY...

Apologies - didnt realize there are multiple threads for this tool - usually most other tools appear to have singlle thread.

Hi,

I have been using the various BD Rebuilder beta's to back up my collection to DVD5, to date without any problems that I've noticed. However, when I try to rebuild the movie "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" I get an audio sync problem.

The first time this happened I was using the previous (0.36.something) beta, but I have now tried the disk again with the latest (0.37.01) beta and the same problem occurs.

I am using the "Movie Only" backup, and keeping the 3 English language audio tracks.

Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Are all three language off? How much off (seconds or milliseconds)?

The second audio track (English descriptions for the hard of hearing) seems to be very slightly off, although not enough to be really noticeable - it's possible that it's fine, and I'm just getting paranoid. The third audio track (director's commentary) seems to be absolutely fine.

The main audio track is noticeably off - maybe 1-2 seconds. From looking at the stream information in VLC this is a TrueHD track on the original disk, but has been reencoded to AC3 on the BD5. The other two were AC3 on the disk and on the BD5 I don't know how to check whether they have been touched by BD Rebuilder or not.

Also, strangely, the frame rate for the video stream is shown in VLC as 23.976023 for the stream on the disk, and 47.952047 for the BD5 - although that can't possibly be correct, as it's definitely not running at double speed.

I'd appreciate it if both of you would try replacing the BD Rebuilder executable with the one in this zip (http://www.jdobbs.net/freeware/BD-RBTEST.zip) and see if it fixes it. Unfortunately you'll have to run the job again.

Thanks.

I will run a test now. Will use same settings as before, IVTC Sources with 3:2 Pulldown and Use DECOMB filter on interlaced sources selected.
Will report back later this afternoon. ;)

I'm not sure if this is a problem at all but it relates to the undersizing discussion. I backed up The Shining with a source size of 30.08GB, using BD-25 as my target output, and the result was 16.8GB. I thought this a bit strange since I chose Full Backup and I thought only non-english audio would have been stripped, and I didn't think non-english audio would have amounted to half of the source size.

So I re-tried the backup with same settings except Custom Target Size of 45000 and the result was 21.5GB. Should 21.5GB have been an acceptable output size with the BD-25 option as well, meaning video was compressed unnecessarily?

Make sure you are using the apps and versions that are linked in the first post of this thread. Sometimes using other versions or other CODECs can result in undersizing -- that's not a good thing. In some cases other CODECs can actually change the resolution or clarity, and as a result what appears to be a high Q at a lower bitrate is actually a blurred image.

:( The test BD-RB file did not correct the audio out of sync problem on the movie Case 39.

The audio is ahead of the video. The original 00270mpls for these 18 scenes, VID_00016 to VID_00033, reports a total time of 00:30:06, and the BD-RB backup reports 00:37:37, the same as before.
I am not sure if this helps, but if I run DGAVCIndex on the BD-RB backup 00016.m2ts file, it reports 29.970fps.
If I run DGAVCIndex on the VID_00016.AVS.264, it reports 37.462537fps.
Let me know what else I can provide that may be of help.

Hi and thanks. I did install those linked apps when I installed BDRB and I don't believe anything has changed since. Inspect.exe seems to show no problem:

@TheBreen;
Perhaps you could try setting BD-RB to two pass encoding, and remove the selection/checks next to One Pass (CRF) Encoding and One Pass (ABR) Encoding.
Sizing is much more accurate this way.

Maybe I should try that, thanks. I have been using Automatic Quality Settings with AUTO_BIAS=2 in the config.

Still, in this case of The Shining, it seems to that any quality settings should produce the same result with target output BD25, because the video does not need to be re-encoded at all to get it under 25GB (or at least that's what I understand from my experiment with a higher custom target output). But I might be missing something...

The test BD-RB file did not correct the audio out of sync problem on the movie Case 39.
That's disappointing, I thought that was it for sure. I'll pick up "Case 39" today and give it a run. Thanks for helping.

My pleasure. :)
I have not used IVTC sources with 3:2 pulldown before, nor do I see many original Blu-rays with this type mpeg2 files, so this is really not a big concern for me. Probably more a concern for you and other users though. :p Since my backups are played back on my standalone S360, I'm not sure there would be much benefit upon display of this already not real good quality clip.
But I am happy to help test and promote development and features for BD-RB, so count me in as needed! :D

Since that's also the default, why use "Custom"? Just select "BD-25".

omegaman7
13th January 2011, 20:47
Default I was averaging 22.4 - 22.5, and noticing(visually) that a significant amount of the disk was not being used. I assumed the default was smaller than that. But if you say it is 23500(0.37.01), I'll just go with the default setting. I was probably getting undersizing for unknown reasons.
The first time I ran the custom setting, I set it for 23450, and had a marginal increase in output size. I guess it was coincidence ;)

I use 24600 (usually comes in at 99%) for all my movie only encodes and BD-25 for full backups which are usually Season Episode disc

That's been the default since v0.36.01. If you set it to a lower number and got an increase -- then it's likely you changed some other setting -- because the exact same code is executed regardless of the size. Usually any variation would be in audio selections, because they are a little more unpredictable in their muxing overhead (example: a 192Kbs AC3 can often take the same or more space than a 224Kbs one).

omegaman7
13th January 2011, 22:34
When I tried the 23450, it was with a new encode(And was unaware of the default size). Had I left it at default for that disk, it likely would have been larger. I only do a Re-encode if there is something seriously wrong. Or if somebody asks me to test something. At an average job time being 7 - 9hrs, it's irritating to have to re-encode something. Not really complaining here. I understand the term beta. I love new toys, and playing with them ;)

I can't seem to figure this one out. Things have been going extremely well. This is my first try with the latest release. I appreciate the help!

Apparently something was changed for your decoding AVC video. Can you play the VID_00011.avs file BD-RB created in the Workfiles folder with MPC?
Usually a simple uninstall of Haali and ffdshow and then reinstall them will fix this.

I believe I’m encountering Cinavia protection problems as they are the same issues I find on known releases of Movies with Cinavia and I don’t seem to have problems with anything else. My system checks out OK and I don’t have any Codecs outside of the required ffdshows. I’ve even done a clean system reinstall thinking there may be some issues not apparent. So I’m curious if this is Cinavia or a possible issue in BD-RB but another reason I don’t think it is BD-RB is that I’ve used the not so good DVDFab8 and it produces the same problems, so the only other variable here is AnyDVDHD.

Problem:
If I rip the following titles and keep the HD Audio & DTS I have problems with the BD25’s losing audio and freezing in spots of the movies. It tends to be anywhere from 10minutes to 20minute intervals. I can fast forward a frame or two and it picks up again fine. Also the timer will stop and won’t always pick up again. If I play the BD25 rip with TMT3 it plays fine and TMT3 doesn’t have Cinavia protection scheme in it.

The problem is lessened when I choose to transcode and convert the DTS to AC3 and was even better when I unchecked the only use one language audio feature, which I didn’t like anyway as I wanted the directors commentary on track 4 instead of dup’n track 1 to track 4.

With Gladiator (2 disc) Sapphire Edition at 10:03 on the extended version and DTS intact it always drops out audio, glitches a bit, and then freezes until I fast forward a bit and then it is fine other than possibly the timer remaining froze. If I convert audio to AC3 then it glitches just slightly, hardly noticeable, and keeps playing until the next point of concern at 32:51 were it will probably freeze but most certainly the timer will freeze even if the audio/video doesn’t. When that happens if I fast forward it jumps back to the timer freeze point and continues on from there. Here are some of the points that the movie has problems in;

Gladiator Extended Version
10:03
32:51
54:10
1:10:18
1:21:39
I stopped here but the 10min marker is like clockwork but will play through when using AC3 where the later points are more apt to freeze at.

Here are the titles I’ve encounter this problem with using my Cinavia firmware LG BD370V player;

Resident Evil: Afterlife 2D
Iron Man 2 (2 disc)
Iron Man (2 disc)
Gladiator (2 disc) Sapphire Edition
Toy Story 3 (2 disc)

I have no problems though with other new titles like Case 39 & Inception and have ripped over 100 BD’s with only having the VC1 problems way back when.

It's gotta be either the media or the burner -- most likely the media. There's also a remote possibility it could be the muxing from TSMUXER -- but if it were there'd be a lot of other people getting it too, and that's not happening. Of course it looks like you're keeping all languages and that's unusual. I would think though that the fact that you run into issues with DVDFab also makes muxing issues unlikely.

Try keeping only the audio languages you speak/understand and let me know how if it acts differently.

Sorry but I won't look at those "wait forever" links you've posted. I hate those things.

Cinavia has nothing to do with it.

Still think it's most likely media.

I've used two burners, and different media and the problem is always exactly the same, at the same points. I bought a new burner thinking the same as you.

Use the "code" feature to wrap your text (it's the "#" symbol above where you'r typing when you're composing a reply) and it will make it a lot easier to read. I just did it with an edit of your post. Looks better, eh?

Try not keeping so many languages.

I'll try it with just the English main and directors comments track 4.

Sorry about the code thing I normally don't miss that.

I was just thinking that since it is rare that people keep more than a couple audio tracks (to improve video quality) there's always a chance that TSMUXER might be having trouble with it.

In fact... could you list the audio tracks so I can make a guess as to their total combined bitrate?

I have friends that speak Spanish so I typically like to keep that and since I'm not close to Quebec or the French Quarter here in the US I don't care about French.

I've restarted it with just English but am allowing multiple english channels. I hope that won't cause issue but I can always limit the Audio to one language if need be.

Original Audio Tracks are as follows:
T1 - English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio
T2 - French 5.1 Dolby Digital
T3 - Spanish 5.1 Dolby Digital
T4 - DD 2ch Commentary by Director Ripley Scott

My thinking is that the combined bitrate of all the audios (especially when keeping HD) might be challenging the mux... or possible the total bitrate is too high causing the freeze. Just guessing...

These types of things might sometimes only show up on certain players (depending on internal buffering).

That's a definate possiblity and would be a good reason why keeping the DTS doesn't work well compared to converting the audio to AC3. But when converting to AC3 I still encounter problems so do you thing it is still the high bandwidth and tsmuxer? It could be my player as it doesn't have a huge buffer but it can play the original fine so that seems odd to me, I'm not saying it isn't so though.

Is your PC overclocked? I have done Gladiator and other movies where I have kept the main HD audio and 2-3 commentary tracks, and have never had an issue when playing back on my Sony S360.

I have too in fact, until recent I haven't had one issue (other than the VC1 issue so very long ago) and I've backed up over 100 movies so far. Like I said I did Case 39 and Inception FULL movie backups with all audio and only had problems with Case 39 when I tried doing a BD9 full movie. I could only do Movie Only when going to BD9 with Case 39 but could do Full Movie for BD25. For Inception I did a full BD9 and had no problems either way with that one, BD25 or BD9. I played with the BD9's just to see what the quality difference would be and I was very impressed with the quality, better than DVDFab8 does with BD25's.

I'm not OC'n my PC either so there isn't a clocking issue, or at least there shouldn't be.

Do you have a player that is plagued with Cinavia? Because that is the issue with RE:Afterlife. I can rip it to BD25 or whatever without issue as long as I'm not playing it on a player that incorporates Cinavia, for instance TMT3 plays it fine just like it does for these movies I'm having issue with. That is why I'm woundering if it is AnyDVDHD, BD-RB, and/or Cinavia protection.

People with PS3 player have said that re-encoding the audio and remuxing works for them allowing them to play Cinavia movies on their PS3's. That is why after running into trouble and buying a new burner I decided to convert the audio to AC3, which helped but didn't do the trick totally.

@Mr. Movies

Hi!

1) "Cinavia" protection in no way interferes with BD Rebuilder (or any other backup, conversion, or compression programs)

2) Most of the titles you've listed do not contain "Cinavia". As of today, the only released discs infected with Cinavia are:

Blu-ray discs:
The Losers *(Warner Brothers, volume name=THE_LOSERS) (English track only)
The Karate Kid (2010)* (Sony, volume name=THE_KARATE_KID) (most of the tracks)
The Other Guys (Sony, 14dec2010) (English track only)
Resident Evil: Afterlife 2D* (Sony, 28dec2010) (English track only)
Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D* (Sony, 28dec2010) (English track only)
Salt (Sony, 21dec2010) (English track only)
The Social Network (Sony, 11jan2011) (English track only)
Takers (Sony, 18jan2011) (English track only)
* for those, in teritories where the movie is not released by Warner Bros. or Sony, the Blu-ray does not have Cinavia

DVD discs:
Takers (Sony, 18jan2011) (English track only)

1) I didn't say that Cinavia effected BD-RB I'm questioning where the issue may be, it can be in several areas of course and I've eliminate several of those.

The effects I'm getting with my Cinavia plagued player is exactly the same I get off of the known movies in the list you provided.

2) The list isn't static it is dynamic and will change and add with time. Who is to say that as they continue to puch out new discs of any movie, they won't add the watermark to them. This is why I question these older movies I'm having problems with and because again on my S.A. player they act exactly the same as known movies with Cinavia and I just bought these. I wouldn't think the manufacture would wast their time putting the watermark on these but I've run out of avenues to test, for the most part, and I don't have a player with a firmware version that is AACS Cinavia clean, I wish I did life would be much easier.

This is why I'm asking some of the pro's here for help hoping someone might have an idea what is going on.

I checked your Sony S360 and unless things have changed your player does not have Cinavia so you are lucky. I wish I didn't give away my Sony BX1 now as it would help for testing and trouble shooting.

LG BD370V
Main Ver: BD.8.08.027.B
Servo Ver: H51203
IO Micom Ver: 09063000

I don't get the Cinavia name and error code on RE:Afterlife but it does freeze up and loose audio at the proper intervals. And my unit is in the list of players with the protection.

The only reference (using DVDFab Forum and SlySoft Forum as the reliable sources) to what MAY be your unit is:

LG BD570 latest BD.8.31.323.C firmware, some firmwares earlier than 300.C contained cinavia

I use those two forums however they are not the only reliable sources and I can't remember exactly which forum I found it on, I actually thought it was Slysoft but it must have been somewhere else. If I can find the source I'l post it back here, I'll dig around again...

I've dug around the internet and have found out more on my LG. First your probably right someone else in a current thread is saying his BD370 is Cinavia free he doesn't provide a firmware or driver level though, so It must of been late when and my eyes were not fully open. I couldn't find the thread I originally found either. Second on Blu-Ray Forum or it might of even been DVDFab there were some people having problems with LG's firmwares and one of them had called LG and it seems he has a problem with Iron Man 2 that they are doing a bug fix for. I'm not sure what his issues are but that does open my eyes to the player being the problem, which wouldn't be good news as I can't really roll back my firmware and would need to wait for an update to possibly fix the problem.

It looks like I should find a friend with a different player to see if my player is the problem. I still have several coasters that I haven't thrown out yet I could test as well.

Using just English didn't fix it so I should isolate the player by using someone elses to see if this plays on theirs.

If you think of anything I've missed or need to do please advise and thanks for all of the help so far.

UPDATED (28-JAN-2011)The issue was my LG player's firmware which I'm stuck with until they upgrade it hopefully. A friend of mine has an LG too, different model, and he hasn't upgraded to the latest like mine so he can't even play the Inception BD9 full movie backup which I can. But when I play my BD25's that won't play without freezing they do work on my uncles Samsung BDP1500, they play perfectly, however his player won't play my BD9's, his firmware has never been updated.
