Ran a movie-only backup of Gunslinger Girl S2D1 on 0.43.01. Audio is severely out-of-sync, like it was when I did Gunslinger Girl S2D2 on BD-RB 0.42.08.
BD-RB Setup:
Open GOPs enabled
Use DEINT enabled
Do not convert DTS to AC3 enabled
Do not reencode AC3 enabled
Keep HD Audio enabled
Use DGDecNV enabled
IVTC sources with 3:2 pulldown enabled
Unblock chapter skips enabled
Even though the original contains several episodes that are compiled into a single .m2ts for the backup, this has nothing to do with the audio delay issue mentioned in the change notes for 0.43.01. This is caused by BD-RB (or a tool it uses) either A) misreading the fps and/or format of the original video stream, or B) running the x264 encode with incorrect fps and/or other video stream formatting parameters.
Framerate of an original .m2ts, as reported by MPC-HC, VLC and PotPlayer
MPC: 24.08fps
VLC: 59.94fps
PotPlayer: "Std FPS: 29.97 Current FPS: 24.27 -> 23.97".
Framerate of an m2ts from backup, as reported by MPC-HC, VLC and PotPlayer
MPC-HC: 29.81fps
VLC 59.94fps
PotPlayer "Std FPS: 29.97 Current FPS: 30.10 -> 59.94".
It's no wonder audio is minutes off-sync if the video stream is flagged to play at 29.97fps instead of 23.98fps.

edit: Oh yeah, code. Sorry about that.
I'm now re-running the encode with DEINT and IVTC disabled.
update: Disabling DEINT and IVTC had no effect; audio sync is still way off.

:o I apologize ahead of time, but i have searched the thread and couldn't find an answer to the problem I am having with using the Alternate Output to MKV and No Subtitles being added to the converted MKV File. MediaInfo shows the Video and Audio Streams but no Subtitles. I made sure to use the hiddenoption "MKV_MUXSUPS=1" and Settings Option: Subtitles to keep "English(Eng)" BD Rebuilder Stream shows PGS Subs English. The Output MKV comes out great, but I know I am jacking up the subtitles portion just dont know how to fix it.
Could someone point me in the right direction? Thank you in advance, sorry for the newbie question

I've tried many of the Quick-Play backups in PowerDVD 11 during testing, and they've all worked. Sounds like it might be an issue with PowerDVD 10.
I've installed PowerDVD 12 and the Quick-Play backups still won't play. In PowerDVD 12 when you select the drive containing the movie, it only displays the BDMV folder and does not play. I do observe that the Quick-Play option does not create a CERTIFICATE folder, only BDMV. Perhaps PowerDVD 10 and 12 require that folder to play?

Hello Jdobbs and everyone else.
Been experimenting with this software for about a month and am having a problem that I think is bug (not sure). Am using BD Rebuilder 0.43.01.
I'm trying to encode my copy of Monty Python's Life of Brian (Blu-ray) to the iPad MP4 container to use on my daughter's iPad. The conversion goes ok (ie, no error messages) but the sound from the final output is terrible. That is, you really can't hear voices unless sound is turned up to the max, and even then only barely and with a "tin can" sound. You can hear music a little better but it's still clearly problematic.
I also encoded to DVD9 out of curiosity and the sound is fine with no issues.
Here is the log file. There are three different entries from three different encoding sessions: the first two encoding to MP4 and the last encoding to DVD9.
Any other info you need?

I was thinking of mentioning the same thing, but that may increase the "Tin Can" effect he's getting ;) I've never used 128Kb AAC. So I don't have any experience in that area. Though I have fulled around with highly compressing in the MP3 format. Needless to say, the output quality was VERY diminished. I thought AAC was VERY intelligent though. Much like X264 for video.

@colinhunt
Can you run MEDIAINFO against the original of "Gunslinger Girl S2D1" and post the results? I'm wondering if it as pulldown applied (rare on a BD AVC source). You might also try opening the original M2TS with TSMUXER and see what attributes is says for that video stream.

It might be something happening in the conversion from AC3 to AAC or from 5.1 to stereo. I've noticed lower volume myself. I always assumed it is the result of that "greater dynamic range" that BD is so proud of (which to me equates to "lower volume").
I'll take a look at it though. I do a lot of conversion from BD to MP4 for iPad/iPhone myself.

And on the other hand, it could be the device/speaker, or settings on the device. I wonder how another conversion would compare ;)

I will try as you suggest but I don't think this is a linear volume problem. If it were, the voice audio wouldn't have this tinny effect and the music audio would suffer as well (ie, music seems to come through ok, but it still sounds a little off too).
This appears to be an encoding problem...but I will try your fix nontheless.

Also, could you try the same encode without DGDecNV? It's possible I may have an issue in the way I am setting it up with sources that contain pulldown...
I did, a while back. I mentioned it in post #16642:
So far, I've done a Full Backup using these settings, but all have the same sync issue:
#1: DGDecNV, OpenGOPs on, DEINT on, IVTC on, Keep HD Audio on
#2: LAVF, OpenGOPs on, DEINT on, IVTC on, Keep HD Audio on
#3: LAVF, OpenGOPs on, DEINT off, IVTC off, Keep HD Audio off
Although that was on 04208, I believe.
edit: I'm now running a Full Backup using DirectShow for decoding/frame serving, IVTC enabled but DEINT disabled. Here's the content of LASTCMD.TXT for episode 1:
"C:\xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx\Video tools\BD_Rebuilder_04301\tools\x264.exe" "E:\_BDRB_OUTPUT\WORKFILES\VID_00101.AVS" --preset ultrafast --bluray-compat --cabac --bframes 3 --b-pyramid none --weightp 1 --open-gop --qpmin=0 --bitrate 12513 --level 4.1 --qpfile "E:\_BDRB_OUTPUT\WORKFILES\VID_00101.CHP" --sar 1:1 --aud --nal-hrd vbr --pic-struct --vbv-bufsize 30000 --keyint 24 --min-keyint 1 --ipratio 1.1 --pbratio 1.1 --vbv-maxrate 35000 --tff --threads auto --slices 4 --thread-input --tune animation --output "E:\_BDRB_OUTPUT\WORKFILES\VID_00101.AVS.264"
And here's VID_00101.AVS:
#Created by BD Rebuilder - v0.43.01 (beta)
DirectshowSource("S:\BD\GUNSLINGER_GIRL_S2_D1\BDMV\STREAM\00101.m2ts", fps=29.97, framecount=45181, audio=false)
ConvertToYV12().AssumeFPS(30000,1001)
update: This felt odd so I figured why not post it; could be helpful. I took a look at the files in WORKFILES. There are two video files for episode 1:
00101.m2ts - 3 013 878 KB
VID_00101.AVS.264 - 2 289 997 KB
I dropped the .m2ts file into TSMUXER. Track Info field says "Frame rate: 29.97" but there's no mention of pulldown.
I then dropped the .264 file into TSMUXER. Again, "Frame rate: 29.97", no mention of pulldown.
To make sure I hadn't been dreaming earlier, I dropped the 00101.m2ts from the original into TSMUXER: "Frame rate: 29.97 (pulldown)".
I played the 00101.m2ts file in WORKFILES on MPC-HC and the audio is badly out of sync.
update 2:
I dropped the two files in WORKFILES mentioned above into MediaInfo. Both report a frame rate of 29.97 fps and Scan type for both is MBAFF.
If I recall correctly, earlier backups with DEINT enabled resulted in m2ts files that were Progressive instead of MBAFF.

@colinhunt
Yes you posted before... but you were using LAVF there -- that's not the default and would have proven nothing as it totally ignores the AVS file.
The fact that TSMUXER sees pulldown reveals a lot and confirms my suspicions. This is an AVC source that used pulldown. At least now I think I know the issue. I don't think I've ever actually run into one of those on a commercial disc -- although they are completely legal. It should be easy to fix when using DGDecNV -- but I need to also find a way to correct in DirectshowSource() when AVC/pulldown is found. DirectshowSource ignores pulldown flags.

I ran a test by adding "TWEAK_PASS_ONE=--pulldown 32" to BDREBUILDER.INI. Other settings were DirectShow, with DEINT and IVTC disabled.
Once BD-RB had processed (using single-pass ABR) and multiplexed the first episode, I dropped the .m2ts into TSMUXER and got "Frame rate 29.97 (pulldown)". Of the .264 file TSMUXER reported a high and totally non-standard frame rate. The muxed .m2ts appeared to play fine in MPC-HC, but it was only for a moment. By the end of the episode audio was again badly out of sync. What's more, the video played in a slightly stuttering manner.
Played the m2ts in PotPlayer which says the original frame rate is 29.97... but for some reason it decides on a playback rate of 37fps. That's actually the same fps reported by MediaInfo and TSMUXER of the VID_00101.AVS.264.
I guess adding --pulldown 32 wasn't quite the solution I thought it might be :)

I guess adding --pulldown 32 wasn't quite the solution I thought it might be :) I've fixed it for the next release.

Yeah, I just tried a suggestion by setarip_old to put this switch into the "hidden" file: AUDIO_AMPLIFY=n
I substituted 1.5 for n but all it seemed to do was amplify background noise. That is, the volume is extremely attenuated with a tinny sound (although any music that appears in the voice track comes out much louder but tinny as well) and definitely problematic.
I realize this is beta software, so I'm just reporting what I'm seeing. I really like how BD RB is shaping up, and I hope it will in the end be a kickass product like your DVD Rebuilder was (used it for years and loved it!).

i haven't used bd-rd in a while so when prompted i downloaded the latest version a couple of nights ago. on this new version i seem to be getting block looking horizontal lines. it doesn't happen in every frame but it can be seen in most of them. the two movies i've tried are Dredd and The Thing 2011. i've tried both high quality and automatic quality settings. i'm doing a full backup, quicker extras, BD25 encode. i haven't touched any other settings.
here's a picture of what i'm talking about. i've brightened the image so it's easier to see the issue.

Are you playing it back using Hardware Acceleration? That can cause that type of artifacting. Compressed video has the tendency of being oversimplified by the GPU ;) You'll find the original will usually look fine. Which is why it's logical to assume a problem.
By the way, I recall The Thing being severely oversimplified.

Are you using the correct helper apps? Run "Inspect.exe" (in the BD-RB folder) and post the results.
Also, have you inspected the original rips (on the same computer) to see that these problems don't exist in them?

Take a look at the very first post in this thread. Basically:
"make sure MPEG2 decoding is enabled. Do the same using "Audio Decoder Configuration" to ensure "Uncompressed" is set to "All Supported"."
and
"Setup VC-1 decoding in the same way you did MPEG-2 in step one. For Vista or Windows 7 using "Video Decoder Configuration" -- select "wmv9""
I'm not sure if there is anything else you need to do on Win8, but that would be a good start.
That being said, I can't see how those settings would interfere with the actual burning operation. It could be that you have a bad burner, or bad media.

Space Adventure Cobra, a Japanese SciFi animation from early 80s. It's a collection of tv show episodes but they've been authored into a single 47GB .m2ts instead of each episode in its own .m2ts. The problem is that in the output some of the episodes are missing English subtitles.
I took another swing at this title with 0.43.01; the problem persists. Output has English subs only in episodes 1, 3 and 5. Even numbered episodes have no subs even though the player shows English subs are active.
Now, this is such a weird issue I don't expect it to be solved anytime soon... so I decided to find an alternative solution:
1) Ripped English subs from the original into a .sup file using MeGUI's Stream Extractor.
2) Dropped the BDMV directory from BD-RB output with missing subs into DeanBG's very handy MultiAVCHD.
3) Added the .sup as an external subtitle and removed the original English subs.
4) Made sure transcoding was disabled and processed the lot to full BD25.
Output has English subs in all episodes.

ironleg1963@gmail.com Following the directions in the first post will fix the incorrect settings -- but if you are getting read errors on a verify it is either bad discs or a bad drive (most likely flakey discs since its happening on two drives). That would have little to do with BD-RB or ImgBurn.

Hi guys,
I ran into another audio sync issue. The last time I had this issue was with a heavily mulit-part title (70 parts IIRC); Total Recall 2012. The audio was in sync at the beginning, but delayed by about 1/2 second by the end of the film.
This time the title is "Man On Fire". The audio is in sync at the beginning, again, but out of sync at the end by about 300ms delay. This time the original video is in one single stream.
I was running BD-RB 42.08 when this problem happened, so, today, I upgraded to 43.01 to see if that would help: the problem remains.
To solve this problem I took the audio stream from the Workfiles folder and scaled it down by approx 300ms. Then I manually used tsMuxeR to created a new BD structure from the video and sup files that BD-RB created, plus my scaled-down audio file.
I detected this problem during my usual validation process - after rebuilding, before burning. I use VLC Media Player, checking 3 positions of the video: just after opening credits, midway, and just before closing credits. I look primarily at lip movement vs audio. The original disc audio sync is fine, my custom rebuild is fine (good enough, anyway), the BD-RB rebuild has the sync issue.
Like I said, I've solved my problem manually, so this is just FYI. But let me know if you need additional info. Man on Fire was finally delivered today. I'll run it and see what I find.

0:05:09 "Obey me and I'll love you forever"
1:15:01 "I borrowed it"
2:08:44 "What does she call her bear"
The first point was in sync, the last was noticeably delayed for the audio.
It could always be a bad disc release, of course. I recently did "The Woman in Black" and it had HIDEOUS banding (hideous to me - my wife and son didn't say anything about it). According to BluRay.com the BluRay video was supposedly fantastic, but I found some other comments online saying that the Alliance version had bad banding. My disc is the Alliance. So, for what it's worth, this "Man On Fire" disc says "© 2007 FOX".

The one I have has the exact same sizes etc. that yours does. Confusing... I've made a few changes since v0.43.1, but nothing that should change the audio sync, except when the source uses pulldown -- and MOF doesn't... maybe I'll step back and try it just to be sure.

jdobbs, remember the issue I've had with small m2ts files containing two LPCM audio tracks, one or both of which refuse to be re-encoded into AC3?
Well, dammit. I recently built a new PC for non-encoding purposes but ended up installing BD-RB on it after all. Earlier today I threw "Baron Blood" at it, fully expecting to see the Audio Reencoding issue pop up again. But no! First VID on the disc is only 6.05MB and has two LPCM audio tracks. My encoding rig (a dual-Xeon) stumbled on it immediately... but this new PC encoded the files like it was the simplest task on the planet.
I suppose we can cross that bug off the list.

With the good comes the bad. Another japanime title, Steinsgate, was subjected to a movie-only backup last night. Result: last of the eight episodes plays without subtitles. I went through the log and .INF files but found nothing that would have even hinted at a problem.
Ripping .sup with MeGUI's Stream Extractor and muxing it into BD-RB's output with multiAVCHD saved the day again.

I saw similar to what you describe on P4's after the newer wavi.exe replaced the older version. It's not that BD-RB pops out an error message, rather the process quits and RB just sits there. Using the process tree to visualize what happens at that point, it looks like aften.exe simply terminates and the second version of aften never is called. On a whim I switched the two versions of aften by renaming each version to the name of the other and found that the AC3 encoding will in fact complete.

I have updated the first post of this thread with links to an updated version of BD-RB (v0.43.03). Changes for this release:- Fixed an error in which attempting to save a
project while no source is selected will result
in a "Run-time Error '9'".
- Corrected an issue in which import of DVD PGCs
that have cells out-of-order are not assembled
into the pseudo BD M2TS correctly.
- Corrected an issue related to opening certain
short pathnames during vido file import. Error
seen as "No compatible video stream detected".
- Revamped the video file import function to help
improve the number and types of files that can
be imported without error.
- Corrected an error in the way pulldown sources
are handled. This could have caused audio sync
issues in AVC pulldown sources.
- Added a new hidden option. PULLDOWN_720=1 will
tell BD-RB to use pulldown to achieve 59.94 or
50fps rather than doubling the frame count when
resizing from 29.97 or 25fps sources (SD or HD
1080i) in order to meet BD standards. Improves
quality and is within the standard, but might
possibly result in issues on poorer playback
systems that have problems with pulldown.
- Modified the AUDIO_AMPLIFY hidden setting. In
addition to a multiplier (see HIDDENOPTS.TXT)
you can now also set it to "NORMALIZE". The
Normalize mode scans the source audio and
amplifies it to the greatest amount possible
without audio clipping (distortion). This is
especially useful for ALTERNATE output when
output is down-mixed from 5.1 to stereo and
loses amplitude. NORMALIZE will create a delay
at the beginning of encoding for each audio
track.
- Removed the hidden option IVTC_DIRECTSHOW. It
is now controlled by IVTC_TELECIDE. When the
telecide selection is disabled, this becomes the
selection. Having both selectable could cause
issues when both were deselected, resulting in
odd IVTC using Decimate() only. Note, also,
that the name IVTC_DIRECTSHOW was inaccurate
since the setting also applies to direct IVTC
using DGDecNV.
- Improved the DVD import function by forcing the
aspect ratio based upon that specified in the
IFO file. Some rare DVDs are encoded 16:9 but
flagged 4:3 in the MPEG headers (typically to
satisfy some older authoring software) when the
actual output is meant for 16:9 playback. The
IFO file should be the authoritative source for
the true aspect ratio and dictates actual
playback.
- Added a new setting to the SETUP dialog. By
selecting "Widen 4:3 Viewing" you can fill the
screen more on 16:9 playback devices. It works
in a way similar to 16:9 conversion -- except it
does not clip as much of the original picture.
This is for people (like me) who can't tolerate
a small 4:3 picture in the middle of my large
screen playback device, but don't want to lose
the huge amount of the picture associated with
full conversion to 16:9.
- Updated the included version of nicaudio.dll to
the latest release (v2.0.6).
- Updated the included versions of MKVMERGE and
MKVEXTRACT to the latest release (v6.1.0).
- Updated the included version of X264.EXE to the
latest release (r2273).
- Updated the included version of X264-64.EXE to

- Other minor corrections and cosmetic fixes.

I was struggling with another audio sync issue on the Blu-ray of "Monster" (Charlize Theron). By my reckoning, 150ms delay at the start of the film, 500ms delay near the end. A bit of head-scratching, and then I found this review at Bluray.com:
I can't comprehend how this made it past the sound engineers over at First Look Studios, but there are some awful audio sync issues on this release
Also, there are no chapters. I fixed both problems manually, but I thought I'd share this pretty clear example that not all releases are done by competent people.
