Unzip the install package. Copy and paste the "BD_Rebuilder" folder onto one of your hard drives. Add a desktop shortcut to the BDRB.exe file.
If you've already installed Haali, etc., you're done.
That's the way I've always done it and never had a problem.
That is what I have done in past and this last time.
Went back, deleted the BD Rebuilder folder and the BDRB icon on the desktop. Reunzipped the download to "BD_Rebuilder" folder on hard drive and created shortcut BDRB icon to desktop. Used Inspect application within BD_Rebuilder and it found all auxiliary programs. When I opened BD_Rebuilder there was no error message and it worked like a champ.

You seem to be playing a game of some sort regarding your source material and the log. First time around, you omitted the first several lines of the log. Now, you've gone to the trouble of DELETING the identification of your Source from the requested "complete" log: [00:59:04] BD Rebuilder v0.38.08 (beta)

What's the story? Making a guessing game of a supposed bug report is not appreciated, as it detracts from the author's (and cooperating members') ability to deal with other, properly presented bugs...

Hmm... I changed the VBV buffer size for BD-5 and 9 -- and it appears that triggered another section of code to change the level. I'll fix it for the next release. Level 3.2 was only meant for certain secondary video streams.
Thanks.
Just to mention that the 720p BD-5 with level 3.2 and --ref 6 indeed caused playback issues (pixelation) on my SONY standalone. Patching the .m2ts video file with tsmuxer to level 4.0 and remuxing solved the problem.

:eek:BUG - NEW 38.05 DETECTED AS A VIRUS
My Norton Premier 360 detected the NEW 38.05 release's BD_rebuilder.exe file as a HIGH threat and automatically DISABLED it.
Synthea
J.Dobbs straightened me out about some of these ridiculous 'Heuristic' scanners employed in these F'ing 'Security' software apps - when I had an issue w/ DVD-Rebuilder not loading at all (also Win 7 x64) - the culprit: 'Spyware Doctor' - I have since disabled it; and only run it once in awhile to get rid of 'spyware'.
BTW, you might consider Zone Alarm - IMHO - it is a much better app - but - really, if you are not a big business, who is going to want to break into your system; and if they are good at it, the software for public consumption won't stop them at all...
On the horizion - there is a whole new new type of security software that a fellow in California is distributing for corperate use - they say it is foolproff - I don't buy it...
That's my two cents...
Cheers...
Thank Mr. J.Dobbs (and many others) - for all your great work...

I am having an issue with BD-RB not integrating the subtitles from a 1080i, 29.97fps Blu-ray to DVD-5. The subs are demuxed into a .sup, which is in the Workfiles folder, and the log shows they are converted and multiplexed. But they are not on the completed DVD.
This Blu-ray is originally captured from my cable box to H.264 at 13.5mbps, I convert the closed captions to .srt, and use tsMuxeR to create a Blu-ray. This Blu-ray plays the subtitle perfectly with TMT3, but after the BD-RB convert to DVD5, the subtitle is not there! :(
Anyone else have this problem?

I'm running into the same issues using an insignia stand alone blu ray player...
after a few attempts and with the help of my friend we have determined that some blu ray players are just crap! mine is, yours probably is too.
i am willing to bet that the back up plays perfect on your pc... and if you put the backup into a good blu ray player, or a ps3 it will play perfect too..

If memory serves, Insignia is a Generic brand sold at best buy. An affordable low cost brand. You do get what you pay for ;) My brother bought an Insignia car stereo deck. It had problems...
I hear good things about Pioneer, LG, Oppo, and of course a PC optical drive can't be beat(A good one). Recommend steering clear of $ony though. Their business practices are not what they use to be. Once upon a time, I loved Sony. But no more. Quantity comes before quality to them :(
Something worth noting though, Is that a really good media, stands a better chance working in any player. My Samsung BD player does not support LTH media, but it will read Taiyo Yuden BD LTH media :D I can't say that surprised me. Taiyo Yuden is hands down the best media you can get! It won't read verbatim though. And I have a lot of respect for them.

You can buy a Sony, Samsung, or LG Player for about $99 -- I guess you have to wonder why anyone goes for "cheaper' brands.
Most of the time problems with cheap players isn't necessarily the firmware -- the hardware itself has issues, typically indicated by problems with playback of some disc types.

Some player manufacturers use sub-sub-sub-standard BD-ROM drives that exhibit playback issues with BD-R/RE media, and even on commercially replicated discs.

v0.38.08:
For 720p the level has been reduced to level 3.2. For --ref 6 x264 now gives a warning that DPB size (6 frames) is > level limit (5 frames). In earlier version level 4.0 did not produce the reference frames warning.
Has the level reduction from 4.0 to 3.2 become necessary for some reason?
Hmm... I changed the VBV buffer size for BD-5 and 9 -- and it appears that triggered another section of code to change the level. I'll fix it for the next release. Level 3.2 was only meant for certain secondary video streams.
I have noticed this too on movie only backups of 1080i sources as well. Is there any concern for this? Do these parameters create a less compatible backup?

I didn't think that could happen. I don't think it will matter. I'm pretty sure X264 doesn't actually do anything with LEVEL except flag it. But normally Level 3.2 would have a maximum resolution of 1280x720 (if I remember correctly). Just to be sure, I'm posting a new version with the Level fix in it.

I've updated the first post of this thread with a link to the latest release of BD-RB (v0.38.09). Changes for this release:- Corrected an error in which the wrong H.264 level
could be used during encoding.
- IMPORTANT FIX. Corrected an error introduced in
v0.38.5 in which M2TS referenced through subpaths
many not be correctly retained -- especially
noticed in full backups using streams with out-
of-mux IGS streams. (v.0.38.8)
- Changed the executable name for BD Rebuilder to
BDRB.EXE. This is to bypass issues in Norton
360 A/V detection (I guess only Norton knows why
I would need to do this). (v0.38.8)
- Changed default settings so strict AVCHD is now
the default. This is necessary to prevent
unintended non-standard AVCHD output now that
AC3 audio reencoding is no longer the default.
encoding is no longer the default. (v0.38.7)
- Changed default VBV buffer sizing for BD-5 and
BD-9 output. (v0.38.7)
- Fixed a continuing error in which the correct
version of HAALI may show as "Incorrect" when
using INSPECT on a 32 bit version of Windows.
(v0.38.6)
- Updated the included version of X264.EXE to the
latest release (r2057).
- Updated the included version of X264-64.EXE to
the latest release (r2057).
- Other minor corrections and cosmetic fixes.

//LD
Pixelation (i.e. floating "bricks") in the picture, mainly happening at sharp contrast transitions. In order to exclude a bad rip or similar as the cause I did test with 2 different sources and got the same problem. It only happened with the standalone; MPC-HC didn't show the problem.
I could fix the problem by patching the video file to level 4.0 using tsmuxer. (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1518250#post1518250)

I have to re-do a BD movie's subtitle, both to make it smaller and to fit it into the 2.40 frame where now it is framed at 1.77. I figure I can probably just let BD-RB do its thing and then afterwards re-mux the movie with my new .sub (though getting maybe the stream ids right is something I've never tried).
Has anyone here done this before? Easy or difficult to do?
jdobbs
14th August 2011, 16:52
That's pretty much it. After BD-RB has completed, simply replace the appropriate .SUB with the new one in the WORKFILES folder. Then restart BD-RB again and say yes when prompted to "continue" with the previous job. Since all the encoding is already done, the job will pick up at the rebuilding phase and will be remuxed (using your new .SUB).
Don't try to remux outside of BD-RB (e.g. using TSMUXER), though -- as there are other settings that may have to be updated in the MPLS and CLPI files.

If I want to change something with the sups I open the extracted .sup in BDSup2Sub, edit it using the movie AR templates there, save it and rename the modified sup overwriting the original extracted .sup in DB-RBs workfolder. That can be done during the movie encoding phase i.e. before BD-RB starts the muxing.

The reduction to level 3.2 was an unintentional side-effect of another change -- it's been fixed in the current version.

When BD-RB starts-up from a clean install, the setting --> Encoder Settings --> "Automatic Quality" is checked. But when I un-check Automatic Quality, then "Good (Very Fast)" appears and is checked, and un-checked below is "High Quality (Default)".
So if "Automatic Quality" is checked, and left alone, does it use Good or High Quality settings?

I imagine BD rebuilder makes that determination based on total video length, and based on things removed.
Probably based on just how much the main title has to be compressed. E.g. if it's 80% of the norm, it probably goes fast. If it's 60%, it may switch to default.

They make sense, but do not correspond to the same times that BDSup2Sub reports of the 00000.track_4608.sup file found in the Workfiles folder. The XML times for subs appear to come earlier. Even if I adjust the 00000.track_4608.sup with BDSup2Sub and change 23.976fps to 29.97fps, they do not match. ( The XML subs still come early )

Are the subtitles just not displayed / not visible or are there no subtitle streams at all in the newly created .vob files (check for example with MediaInfo, VobBlanker or DVDShrink ....)?
Does this happen for one particular BD backup / version of BD-RB only, or does it fail for other Sources / earlier version of BD-RB as well?

Worked great, thanks, but I noticed something odd in the log file: if you look first at the end of the complete re-encoding, notice that the REBUILD phase at 03:16:59 this morning, which resulted in a 25Gb fileset, appears to have taken just 10 seconds!?
Then I replaced the subtitle, and the subsequent rebuild not only accounts for the (correct) amount of time it took i.e. 20 minutes, but it also notes all the rebuilds which the initial process notes only "Rebuilding BD file Structure". Not an issue for my disk of course, but I thought I should bring it to your attention jdobbs:

Is it happening on more than one DVD?
I have not tried this Alternate output on any other's lately, but it has happened on all 7 episodes I tried that I am reporting currently. I will try another disc or two and see if I have similar results or success!

Nothing changed in that area between those versions. Secondary video is encoded as it is defined in the source CLPI file. Generally if the primary is interlaced (e.g. 1080i), the secondary will be also. What disc are you reencoding?
38.09 same thing with the Bourne Indentity. secondary video gets encoded interlaced

Strange, since I upgraded to 38.09 when I do movie only to BD-5 I only get a BDMV folder, no certificate folder. I've tried it with Strict on, & Keep Only BDMV/Certificate, but still no cert folder. I'm trying now w/ Strict turned off. I don't do any hidden opts, basically run it stock. Here's the current status file.

38.05 - secondary video encoded as progressive (progressive source)
38.08 - secondary video encoded as interlaced (progressive source) I just tested this, and on my system with a progressive secondary source it is properly detecting the type of source and it is encoding as progressive.
Can you post the command line used when the secondary is being encoded?
