Hi jdobbs, I posted the info you requested (Post# 5986).
I was wondering if you had a chance to analyze my problem. Please advise...Many Thanks. In looking at your post, I can see that the attempted output size is significantly smaller than the actual encodes. This biggest error is in this one:

[00011]
AUDIO=10000
PGS=0000000
M2TS_TARGET=21831402023
RATE=17398
NSIZE=8903577600
FLINK=0
MLINK=0

This says that BD-RB tried to create a 21GB M2TS and calculated its bitrate accordingly (17398) -- but after the encoding the actual file itself ended up at a little under 9GB.

That kind of bitrates is pretty high for HD when using AVC to encode. But it isn't extraordinary. I'd suggest you try it again with the new version of BD-RB. I notice you are using Windows 7, and there have been a lot of reported (very odd) issues when Windows 7 isn't configured properly for FFDSHOW. The new release configures DirectShow itself.

You probably have "Strict AVCHD" selected. DTS is not supported in the AVCHD standard, so it has to be converted.

good evening thank you for your answer but the box strict avchd n' is not notched and fts tracks it is converted or its HD tracks it is converted.

can be a problem of codec

I still have no idea on the GI Joe thing. The retail copy works fine, BD RB seemed to process fine. I burned the discs the same way I always do. It works fine on PowerDVD. The PS3 recognizes the disc and even displays the GI Joe Icon, but when it gets to where it's suppose to load the menu all I get is black screen. I don't know if there is any BD-Live stuff at the start of the disc, but I tried disabling that on the PS3 and still no go.

I've done GI Joe, and tested in power dvd, I will burn to bd-re and test in the PS3 and let you know if I have any issue.

Edit: Tested and confirmed working in the PS3, no issues at all, probably just a bad burn or bad authoring. Good luck!

Do you have firmware 3.01 or 3.0 (or another earlier version)?

The retail disc works, so I don't know why the backup wouldn't.

I've tried twice now on this Madagascar 2 Blu-ray and it keeps failing. I've recently had a lot of titles start failing, actually, while some seem to encode just fine. I'm running an Intel i7 920 on Windows 7 64-bit. Below is a copy of the .ini file and log.

Any input would be appreciated! One thing I will say is that before this newest version, it was calling the FFMS2.DLL file and would succeed and have the horrible audio problem. So I did the fix posted earlier in this thread to make it so FFMS2.DLL was never called... I assume it may be related?

Because this looks a lot like it wasn't done.

So I was rebuilding Matrix Reloaded. The total FINISHED folder size is 17.9GB, which is a little too big for a DVD9 backup which is what I have selected. Jdobbs, thanks for the new release. The last one was killing me.

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate x32. I haven't had this problem before as I've rebuilt over 100 blurays at this point using previous versions. Any input would be appreciated! Thanks.

I've attached the files as I got the "over characters" block. Please see attached files.

Hi jdobbs, Thanks for your response.
A few days ago I followed the instructions given by
MickJT as a solution to the problem Windows 7 has with VC-1 video and AviSynth. Is this going to conflict with the FDDSHOW fix you incorporated in the new BD-REBUILDER version?
Should I undo that VC-1 fix first before running the new BD-REBUILDER?
Thanks.

Hi jdobbs,
Well I removed the first fix I told you about and tried another backup of Silverado using BD-Rebuilder 0.31.02... still not producing a 22GB output file.
I'm no expert, but a little logic tells me this is a BD-Rebuilder bug and not a Windows 7 issue. Why, because this small output file problem first arose for me while I was still running Vista. Keep in mind that I had made many sucessfull backups using Vista and older versions of BD-Rebuilder. The only thing that changed and started this size problem was the newer versions of BD-Rebuilder. Now that I am running Windows 7, the same problem has just carried over.
Secondly, in reading this forum, I see that other people are having output file size issues be they too big or too small. Not all of these people are running Windows 7.
This is just a layman's observation on what is happening. Of course, I respectfully defer to you, the expert and developer of BD-Rebuilder regarding any issues with the program.

@jdobbs

Hi!

You might want to either remove or modify the following statement from Post #1:BD Rebuilder has NOT BEEN MODIFIED/TESTED FOR USE ON WINDOWS 7. If you run into issues with Windows 7, please don't post bug reports. It will be updated, but not until the final version of Windows 7 is released in October 2009.

Newest version made my progress go backwards. Used to get to around 80% on PIRATES2 before the FFMS2.DLL error occurred, now I'm back to where I was a couple versions ago, 15.20% before encoding fails.

This is just a layman's observation on what is happening. Of course, I respectfully defer to you, the expert and developer of BD-Rebuilder regarding any issues with the program. You have to look at it from my perspective too. There are many, many users of this software -- and undersizing like you are quoting (8GB for a BD-25) just isn't happening to anyone else. It is unique to your system and your configuration. So what do I change in the software to make it stop undersizing just for you?

The reason CODECs are so important is that sometimes they may not give you what you think you are getting. For example, a CODEC can output the HD as a lower resolution -- which would definitely cause undersizing. Everyone using the standard Windows 7 CODECs are getting goofiness of different types. It may be audio sync, it may be sizing, there doesn't seem to be any consistency, but in the cases I've investigated it isn't BD-RB.

I know you'd like to blame the recent releases -- but frankly nothing that would be related to sizing has changed except the versions of X264 -- and based upon your INF file, BD Rebuilder is calculating setting the correct bitrate for the size needed. So you have to look at what has changed. The most likely candidate is Windows 7 -- especially since thousands of people are using X264 and not reporting undersizing.

If you can point me to a Region A disc that causes the problem -- I would be happy to pick it up and test it.

No, I have never gotten the prompt you describe... is there a way to access it manually?

I have done quite a few full movie backups to BD-25, on my XP Pro SP3, 32bit machine, Region A, with most being 2 pass and quicker encodes for extras, and they come out between 22.0 to 22.6GB. A couple that were done with "High Speed" option and "One Pass (CRF)" came in at 21.2 to 21.8GB.
I usually prefer the accuracy of 2 pass encoding, but on occasion I experiment with the high speed option, which has been the only time they come out less than 22GB.
I am quite amazed at the quality and the reliability of my results!! It has been this way for me since the ability to keep HD audio was implemented.
I am quite suprised to read the complaints about sizing and VC1 encoding issues, something I personally have never experienced.
Windows 7 seems to be the common link here.
jdobbs, it appears a new challenge is before you!
But I will keep reading and keep following, and enjoying my good luck and happy successful results. :)

I know you'd like to blame the recent releases -

My intent was not to blame anyone or anything. My intent was to report a possible bug in the program which is what this forum is for. Blame doesn't help anybody.
Having said that, if BD-Rebuilder is to remain a viable piece of software, it is going to have to work with Windows7 at some point. So as an earlier post stated..."You have your work cut out for you"
Good Luck and thanks for all your good work.

Good Luck and thanks for all your good work.It already works with Windows 7. I'm using it without issues on both a 32 and 64 bit version Win7 Home Premium. BD Rebuilder makes the changes to the DirectShow registry needed to enable FFDSHOW. But many people have already played with the CODECs in Windows 7 for other software. If it's been "finaggled" -- there's just not a lot I can do. I guess I can add an option to force the settings.

Call Microsoft -- they're the ones who implemented a DirectShow standard and programming API that everyone followed (including FFDSHOW) and then decided to reinvent it in Windows 7 for their own amusement.

I'm trying to help you here. As I said in my previous response -- point me to a problematic Region A disc and I will see if I can repeat it and fix it. But honestly, after processing several hundred discs -- I've never seen undersizing like you've reported.

Hi forum: I did the the whole BD RE proccess and it took about 61/2 hours to complete, What's the next thing I do to burn it to dual layer dvd. thank you. Install ImgBurn (if you haven't already), and select "Burn Current Disc (with ImgBurn)" from the FILE menu. You can also set BD-RB to burn automatically after encoding is complete (but ImgBurn has to be installed).

jdobbs, how can I "unfinaggle" the DirectShow and FFDSHOW settings so that BD-Rebuilder can operate properly again? I do not get the prompt that you asked me about when running 0.31.0.2. I'll add some more code to the next version to look at all the registry entries and make sure they are set. Right now I'm only looking at one to see if BD-RB had already been there... but if it was changed by something else, it might appear as having already been completed when it wasn't.

If you got the message and accidentally decided not to let it execute, the following was added to your INI file:

SUPPRESS_FF_WARNING=1

If you delete that flag or set it to "0", BD-RB will show the message again.

@jdobbs

Has there been any more progress on remuxing the troublesome secondary audio files for PiP, as that's about the only thing missing now but it does seem that there are more and more discs using this now and also placing the 'extras' as PiP content rather than standalone?

I'm trying to help you here. As I said in my previous response -- point me to a problematic Region A disc and I will see if I can repeat it and fix it.

Hi jdobbs,
One other quick thing... before I made this last attempt using 0.31.02, I uninstalled and then reinstalled FDDSHOW x32 & FDDSHOW x64. I did this to reverse any of the changes that the VC-1 FIX posted on this forum might have made to the FDDSHOW settings. I did not uninstall and reinstall AVISYNTH, thinking it was not necessary. Do you think reinstalling FDDSHOW was enough or should I reinstall all the required programs that work with BD-Rebuilder?
This small output file problem has cropped up on all my recent attempts to backup various BD's.
The latest one I am having this problem with(as you can see in the log) is Region A of SILVERADO.

PS:Your idea to incorporate a Registry checker in your next version of BD-Rebuilder is an excellent one. That might be the answer to my problem. Thanks.

Didn't know if it was Region A. I'll pick up Silverado and see how it sizes on my Win7 systems.

jodbbs,

I ran GI Joe through again, and the same thing keeps happening. As far as I can tell the only thing BD RB did was resize 6 videos (main movie and 5 trailers). I can't understand why this won't work when the original does. Is BD-Live possibly screwing things up somehow? I'll post the files again so you can see if you can spot anything. I can't imagine there's a problem with the encryption since it works fine on PowerDVD and I wouldn't think it would even let me save it to my computer if it wasn't Decrypted properly. I used DVD Fab to decrypt it. I might try turning AnyDVDHD back on to see if it mentions any problems. But the PS3 doesn't give me any error messages, so I don't think that would be it either.

Ok, I think it has something to do with BD-Live. I put the disc in my PC and turned AnyDVD on and it plays fine in PowerDVD, but if I go into AnyDVD and check "Disable BD-Live" and run PowerDVD it does the same thing as the PS3 does.

Edit: Maybe not exactly the same. The PS3 goes through from title 2 to title 57 then title 4 and locks up on title 1. Power DVD stops at title 57 when it doesn't work. Also, I noticed the video file (paramount logo) that is listed as title 1 on DVDFab doesn't play correctly in Nero Showtime, but the others do. The video plays fine in Windows Media Player and PowerDVD though so I think that is just an issue with Nero.

This doesn't really make much sense.

SUPPRESS_FF_WARNING=1

If you delete that flag or set it to "0", BD-RB will show the message again.

I'm wondering if this is not the issue that's causing my problems because that line is no where in my INI file. I even tried redownloading BD-Rebuilder and extracted it to a different directory so that it would have a pure INI file... no prompt comes up at all.

EDIT: I purposely screwed with some settings and got the prompt to come up so that BD-RB would prompt me to change settings - the prompt came up and then confirmed that my settings are now correct so we'll see what happens now.

I have made a full movie backup to BD-25 of the region A version of GI Joe, no problems here, at least for playback on my Sony BX1. Perhaps you could try to take your burned disc to a local retailer that sells Blu-Ray players, and test it on a few standalones, especially a Sony. This could help determine if your burn is bad or compatibility issues with the PS3.
I use AnyDVDHD, and BD live works on my backups, so I doubt BD Live is the culprit.

is there anyway to fix this error with bd rebuilder on the movie earth?

@jdobbs

Has there been any more progress on remuxing the troublesome secondary audio files for PiP, as that's about the only thing missing now but it does seem that there are more and more discs using this now and also placing the 'extras' as PiP content rather than standalone?

I 2nd this, twilight, groundhogs day, and mummy 3 all region A experience this secondary audio issue. Would love this feature implemented as it seems to be the only gaping hole left. Any ETA?

I know the burn isn't bad since I've made about 5 discs. All other movies I've burnt have worked fine, and all on the PS3. I didn't use AnyDvdHD originally, I used DVDFab, but changing the settings of BD-Live on AnyDvdHD while the BD-R was in the PC caused a similar issue on PowerDVD. Another poster said his worked fine on his PS3, so there has to be some setting somewhere that I'm missing.

New to Blu Ray backup not flaming but no luck with this program on Windows 7 64 bit. Had the audio sync problem with 301 and crashes with 302. Tried to cleanup codecs and reinstall them but now no go at all. Runtime error 53 could not find valid path for required tools x264.exe, tsmuxer.exe, wavi.exe, aften.exe, decomb.dll, mkvmerge.exe, recommend reinstall all included files. This is over my head. Not ready yet.

I'm reverting to an older version of X264 to see if I can find out what gives. I'd suggest you trying the same. But I wouldn't rule out bugs in Windows 7 64bit itself -- because it only seems to be happening there. This is over my head. Not ready yetJust a comment -- if you don't know what a beta is (which appears to be the case) you really shouldn't be testing it. No one is suggesting this software is "ready" -- if it were it wouldn't still be in beta.

Speaking of the new version of x264, jdobbs. I just did 3 different flix (all full backup some MPEG 4 some VC-1, some BD-9 some BD-25) on 2 different 'puters (one XP & one Vista) using 31.02 and ALL of them show SEVERE "pixelation" on the main title when played back on my Oppo!

I think you know what I mean, when the scene is not moving, it looks OK, but as soon as something moves, the moving element "breaks up". The menus on the discs look good, prolly 'cause they haven't been recoded.

Everything has been perfect in the "quality department" until this release, so logically, it's the new version of x264. I went back to 31.01 & am re-running 2 of the backups which complete later today. I'll let you know what happens.

I'm using bd rebuilder on 2 different machines running Windows 7 x64 with no issue. The only thing I have done different than the first page install is this fix:

Install ffdshow rev3124_20091103_clsid both generic and x64 builds consecutively.

Load up the ffdshow directshow video config utility for both 32bit and 64bit, and select "libavcodec" for VC-1. It is disabled by default. If you can't find it, it is underneath the "WMV" codecs in the list.

Download from http://www.codecguide.com/windows7_p...er_tweaker.htm and Win7DSFilterTweaker (make sure you have done the above step first).

ffdshow should now be an option for VC-1 in both 32bit and 64bit sections. Select them.

Reboot the computer.

I've done a couple encodes with the latest release and not seeing the problem your describing, I'm using Highest (very slow) going to bd-25 so don't know if my setup varies from yours, but everything looks good here.

I'll try a newer FFDSHOW version and see if that has an impact. I don't believe its a good idea to select LIBAVCODEC for VC-1, though -- as I don't believe it supports interlaced. You may be better off if you would select WMV9.

[EDIT] I upgraded to FFDSHOW "ffdshow_rev3133_20091117_clsid" and it appears to be working ok now -- I'll let you know after a few hours of processing. But the last attempt at this disc crashed pretty quickly, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Would you say completely undo the fix, meaning go back in to filtertweaker and select Microsoft rather than ffdshow, or just select wmv9 on the vc-1 setting in ffdshow? From your post it looks like just make the change in ffdshow, but want to make sure. Also do you think the x64 version of ffdshow is necessary? I make any changes needed for FFDSHOW when BD-RB starts up. The selection for WMV9 is done within the FFDSHOW configuration -- but BD-RB does it if is sees you have not been preconfigured (you'll know because a dialog will popup asking you if it is already to do it). No, I don't think the 64 bit version is necessary.

By the way, my system appears to have stopped crashing now that I upgraded to ffdshow_rev3133_20091117_clsid.exe.

I Tried the same movie Earth_US as well and im on windows Vista home premium and i get the same encountered error, seems no one knows why its doing it or how to fix it with BD rebuilder, i have asked and no one has replied back to it either, its not like you can remove it from the stream folder and put it back cause its 25+GB and it has to be smaller :(

Again, I refer to the first post of this very thread:
If you decide to download and test -- please post any errors you find in this thread. Don't push bug resolution or keep asking for a fix. I will get to the reported bugs, but only when I can find the time.
From now on whenever I see someone repeat a post -- that report goes to the bottom of the list. Being demanding with something you are getting for free just isn't appropriate or helpful. It's hard enough justifying the time I'm spending on this project to myself as it is.

With that said -- I'll see if I can find a copy of "Earth" and see what's up.

No quality issues from my end either...

I've updated the first post of this thread to link to the latest FFDSHOW.

I just redid a "31.02 pixelator", VC-1 full to BD-9 with 31.01 & it plays PERFECT.

So SOMETHING went FUBAR with 31.02 jdobbs......., at least on my end.

See ya!
