View Full Version : Media Player Classic Home Cinema (MPC-HC) - DXVA!

I wanted to ask if DXVA Support with MPC-HC is possible with "Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family".
DXVA Checker from here (http://bluesky23.hp.infoseek.co.jp/index.html#DXVAChecker) lists a lot of supported modes,
but with MPC-HC I can't get DXVA support running.
On my PC with an Ati HD4850 everything runs perfect.

but with MPC-HC I can't get DXVA support running.
Look on previous pages - Intel uses non-standard gud for acceleration, and don't want to release their specs, so - no support for Intel videochips

I read the preveous pages and used the search function, but mostly I found stuff about IGP's in normal mainbourds.
I thought maybe in the mobile area it would be different, but thanks for your answer.

Changes log (http://www.xvidvideo.ru/content/view/7/17/)
Fixed the "display stats" menu option. It does not depend on the OSD, but only works with VMR-9 renderless and EVR custom; Adjusted the Direct3D warning message. It now mentions that fullscreen can be exited with Ctrl+C; Updated : subtitle option dialog box for Hungarian translation; Italian resources updated; translated new "TODO" lines.

I have a problem since installing Catalyst 8.11 for Vista x64 today. Graphics card Radeon HD 4670. Playing a HDTV x264 video (MPEG4 Video H264 1280x720 25.00fps) with MPC HC, EVR custom, Internal decoder or CoreAVC (doesn't matter), i get a black area where the video is supposed to be. Meaning, the window resizes to the expected size, but it's black. Audio plays fine. When i set it to EVR, i see video too, but i want to use EVR custom, and it worked fine yesterday with Catalyst 8.10. What happened?
P.S. The 8.11 install required no reboot, but when i first try to play the video afterwards, Vista said "MPC doesn't work anymore, looking for solutions". After the reboot, i have this black screen problem.
edit: After toying with the deinterlacing mode in CCC, i get this Vista message again that mplayerc.exe doesn't work anymore! But only with H264 files, XviD etc. plays fine.
These problems are all new, since Catalyst 8.11. New MPC HC from SVN doesn't change anything.
edit #2: Vista tells me that the problem with mplayerc.exe came from "atiumdva.dll".
edit #3: Went back to Catalyst 8.10 and all problems are gone. It seems they packed a broken "atiumdva.dll" with Cat 8.11 x64. Can anyone reproduce this?

agp version?
I can't get 8.10 to install for my 3650..
Neither http://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&questionID=31625 or http://www.donotargue.com/page.php?id=552 install??? (Never mind, 8.11 is out, though it will take a while for both sources to be updated).
Feature Request:
Some anime is available with dubbed English and original Japanese, with the English set as standard (grrr). Would be nice if MPC-HC had an settings tab where you can set preferences for Languages and Subtitels, similar (but more advanced) to the settings now available for DVD.

It has nothing to do with Catalyst driver.
The problems happens with 8.10 hotfix2 too (same atiumdva.dll version), and I remember getting the same black screen/crashes with older versions.
I reported the problem to Casimir666 Monday, it comes from a wrong D3D9 texture format in EVR Custom presenter.

I have 2 requests regarding the file associations:
1) I don't think anyone uses a media player for viewing images, so the "Image files" association could be removed (MPC patched already implemented that).
2) MPC-HC currently has switches to register audio and video files ("/regaud" and "/regvid") and to unregister all ("/unregall"). It would be good to have a switch ("/regall") for registering all types (and autoplay items), similar in functionality to the "All" button from "Formats".

There is a bug with MPC home cinema under VISTA and subtitles.
I use mpc home cinema + vobusb (2.38) to see subtitles.
Under XP there isn't delay between video and subtitles but under vista there is nearly two seconds.
I notice that when i launch .vob files (or .ifo file which miss pub) instead of using "launch dvd function" there isn't delay between video and subtitles under vista but when I use "launch dvd function" under vista there is a delay of two seconds and consequently subtitles are delayed.
I try all version of mpc home cinema but there is the same problem.
I would like to know if this bug is known and if this bug will be corrected in a new version of mpc home cinema.
I try with two différent PC under vista and there is the same problem.

I've got MPC working with almost every file, just by double clicking on the file icon. The "Direct3d Fullscreen" option does get rid of tearing, but then I can't easily exit the program afterwards.
Request:
Please add the option "Exit Program After Playback" (I know it is in the menu.)
Reason:
1. With "Direct3D Fullscreen" the screen goes black after the video is over
2. Pop-up menus don't work in this mode, so I can't exit the program using the mouse
3. Options->Player->"Exit fullscreen at the end of playback" does not work in this mode
4. Hitting CTL-C or ALT-F4 is a hassle. I can't find my wireless keyboard; I can't explain it to my wife or kids; it isn't needed for my HTPC, except as a giant remote-control for only one use and only one program.
My Attempts:
It is available as a command line option, and I added it to the file associations in explorer (for each and every supported file type). But then I installed a newer version of MPC-HC, and they were (my fault) reset to defaults.
BTW, did I mention that the player works really great? I only had to install Haali splitter, and everything else is internal.
:thanks:

I would like to summarize my experience with my Catalyst and the broken DXVA decoding:
This issue was discovered with Catalist 8.9, MPC-HC worked just fine with 8.8.
With the new drivers, including 8.11 I get DXVA only by using either overlay mixer or windowed VMR7. All other DirectShow devices work without DXVA (also the video contrast is much better with these two devices).
Even with the above settings I can only play small videos (by downloading the MP4 version of YouTube video, for example). With 720p and 1080p videos I get:
With overlay mixer everything seem okay only the playback doesn't begin. The overlay is black, I can seek forth and back but the timer remains frozen and the picture blank.
With windowed VMR7 MPC-HC simply crashes.
And there is an other issue: some (YouTube) videos show a green, 8-pixel wide line at the bottom, some others show this as a bar at the right of the video.
Could it be a buffer corruption?

All other DirectShow devices work without DXVA (also the video contrast is much better with these two devices).
That is is a known "handicap" of ATI cards, they use the MS-recommended, but wrong colorspace conversion. To fix this, there's two methods:
XP: Regedit.exe, add string "UseBT601CSC"="1" under
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video\{GUID}\0000]
(search for the correct GUID number which has the 0000 "subfolder").
Vista: Regedit.exe, add string "UseBT601CSC"="1" under
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video\{GUID}\0000\UMD\DXVA]
(search for the correct GUID number which has the 0000 "subfolder").
You should immediately get the correct levels again. What it does is use the ITU-R BT.601 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rec._601) colorspace conversion instead of the wrong MS-recommended CSC. Then you don't need none of these "TV -> PC" workarounds or anything.

I'm in a similar situation as you, DXVA has never seemed to work reliably on my Radeon 3870, E8400 rig running 32bit XP SP3. Throughout each new build (where I always enable all internal filters/formats) it's always a crapshoot even with properly encoded L4.1 .mkv's in 720p or 1080p and an endless rotation of the different outputs (Overlay, VMR7, VMR9, VMR7 Renderless, VMR9 Renderless) in which one output works on x file, but not on y. And, if I am fortunate enough to have an output setting enable DXVA for a particular file, more often then not I get choppy video where it is not smooth at all. I resort to disabling the DXVA filters and I at least get working video. VMR9 + VMR9 Renderless in particular are very troublesome for me with DXVA enabled, which sucks because I need subtitles on occasion as well as the shader for 0-255 conversion.
Does anybody have flawless DXVA playback on a similar system? And if you do, can you link to a sample file where you confirmed DXVA working?

I add the key CiTay mentions "UseBT601CSC" to expand HD levels to match those of SD. I use "VMR7 Windowed" output (which can utilize hardware overlay) and DXVA is always possible (assuming compliant files). At worst, at some times in the past, with certain drivers and cards, it was necessary to add keys: "VForceUVDH264" and "VForceUVDVC1"
"VMR9 Windowed" has never been capable of DXVA as far as I know. I do understand the need for "VMR9 Renderless" since it alone is capable of DXVA with subtitles in MPC-HC but it does seem more problematic.
An alternative for DXVA with subtitles is PowerDVD playing a Blu-ray (more recent versions require disc mode but an image can be made and mounted). tsMuxeR can create the BD structure with imported SRT subtiles.
Testing with hobbyist made files (commonly x264 MKV) is sure to be frustrating as there is no assurance they are compliant. So, it is better to test with professional sources such as BD, broadcast captures, or trailers. Apple is good for that even if the quality is relatively poor (limited to 10Mbps).
QuickTime Alternative includes the downloader component or else direct links are available at demo-world.eu, along with other HD trailers. AVC MOV files can be played with DXVA decoders (ffmpeg or CyberLink) in MPC-HC by changing the Format (under Options - Player) for QuickTime files from QuickTime to DirectShow. The renderer can further be configured from Playback - Output.

I get this distorsion only when I play the video with mpchc. Is there any way to correct this?
Thank you. :)
I have the same on XP SP3 VMR9 only if:
- video is not MOD 16 (e.g 532 pixels vertically)
- DXVA is working
There is no problem with EVR on Vista !!

Sorry, this had no effect on my system. Still only overlay mixer and VMR7 (windowed) looks good.
Make sure it's a string, like so: Image4.png (http://freefilehosting.net/show/422hh)

The latest build (891) plays this H.264 encoded trailer with horizontal and vertical grey bands on the right and bottom of the screen when using the VMR9 output. Switching to the Haali Renderer helps, but there is still a narrow grey band at the bottom of the screen. The latest Videolan doesn't seem to have any of these issues.
Can somebody confirm this? Here's the direct line to the trailer.
