I tried this out today, and for some reason, Vista turned to Aero Basic while playing. Also D3D Fullscreen, I couldn't get the MPC menu to come up at all, or even Alt-Tab to work. Is there any performance difference between EVR and VMR9? Or even picture quality?

JarrettH

Is d3dx9_29.dll required in the same directory? I update my DirectX monthly.

Ohhhh wow! I was a bit skeptical or just old fashion for using Gabest still <3

The colours are noticeably improved (vibrant) and the picture sharper while maintaining the film grain.

Question though...when I enter D3D mode fullscreen if I right click the menu instantly disappears and I can't double click the screen to return the video to window mode. I have to ctrl/alt/del to close the program.

Also, is it possible to restore page up and page down to skip through chapters?

Kado's sample plays perfectly with drevil_xxl's latest MPC build:
http://tirnanog.fate.jp/mirror/Misc%20(not%20by%20celtic_druid)/guliverkli-drevil_xxl/mplayerc.2007-03-05.drevil_xxl.7z

however once replacing mplayerc.exe with "MPC HomeCinema v1.0.7.0" the subtitles become random again (opening and closing various MKV files will result in some working and some not working)

replacing it again with drevil_xxl's build... everything works as expected lol

Try to update your video card driver, the problem should disapeared in windowed mode at least.

Question though...when I enter D3D mode fullscreen if I right click the menu instantly disappears and I can't double click the screen to return the video to window mode. I have to ctrl/alt/del to close the program.
Ctrl+C to close video, or Ctrl+X to exit MPC

first of all thanks for updating MPC i really like this player.
I downloaded latest build by Casimir666 and i tried the evr custom renderer, although i got good results and subs on all mkv files i tried with direct3d enabled or disabled, i have a little problem. when i use evr custom i don't get DXVA 2.0 from my 8600gt, by the way i am using vista 32bit and 160.03 drivers from nvidia. It is like playing in vmr9 mode with no acceleration, can this be fixed??

Actually I'm using XP.... Only the embedded subs don't work though. I'll try to make a proper sample so more people can test it.

Sample file here (http://rapidshare.com/files/33957901/movie.rar.html). Password=> "doom9"

Using Drevil's MPC subs are rendered properly while with Casimir666's MPC I only see subs at 00:02 and at 00:35.
Same settings were used in both MPCs. Used Haali media splitter and renderer, ffdshow for a/v decoding and MPC internal subs renderer.
The main text never shows only the additional one like when 2 subs for 2 different people that are talking at the same time.

The more people test this the better for more accurate feedback.
WinXP SP2
GF 6800GS 158.22
DX 9.0c April 2007

Tested with the same config, Haali renderer and splitter & ffdshow for a/v and Casimir's 1.0.7.0 build
If I try to play the file with DirectVobSub completely disabled ("Do not load" in the VobSub General tab), the subtitles seem to be rendered offscreen:
http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/3143/moviecb8.jpg

But if I play the clip with VobSub loaded (but with "Hide Subtitles" selected, otherwise i have 2 sets of subtitles on the screen), using the internal subtitle renderer to display the subs works just fine:
http://img48.imageshack.us/img48/9371/movie1bx6.jpg

Tested in Vista Ult. x64 with all updates
8800GTX & 158.43 drivers

[EDIT]
I also have a 1.0.7.1 build from Casimir which appears to render the subtitles correctly without VobSub loaded and also seems to fix the bug when using Haali's renderer where left-clicking to pause doesn't work

Kado

@Pyr0
Tried the same you did (VobSub in graph and "Hide Subtitles") but it still the same.
These are the only subs I can see from internal renderer:
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-6/737150/sub1.jpg http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-6/737150/sub2.jpg

Actually the subs appear in their correct positions, but only those lines... :(
Can you provide that build (v1.0.7.1) for testing or it would be software leaking since is not on sourceforge? :D

Also I only get tearing with Direct3d Fullscreen option enabled, in both EVR custom presenter and VMR9. I'll try to use other video driver revision.

first thanks for your answer but are you really sure?... 'cause if I use VMR9 without post-processing in ffdshow it is nearly the same result as with VMR7 (windowed) in conjunction with ffdshow's post-processing...

so, at least visually, I can see a difference using different renderer with/ without post-processing...

Then your video driver is doing post-processing in DX9, which should be controllable from its control panel.

Ctrl+C to close video, or Ctrl+X to exit MPC

First right, second not, Alt+X to close the program :P

Seconds, just tried latest build. Not that I use D3D Fullscreen atm, but a very funny bug was found ^^

In short in D3D + EVR Custom Pres. you as usual need to move cursor to the bottom of the screen to see the slider bar. It IS shown when you move to the bottom of the screen but it is shown at the bottom of the FRAME, thus you're unable to seek video whatsoever :rofl: Seems to work as usual when VMR9 is on.

Note of course my video is yet again 720p and therefore there're black bars on top/bottom of the frame (i have casual 4:3 CRT).

I recently installed .NET Bloatwork 3.0, so I can test EVR now :cool:

Then I noticed that the "Resizer" option obviously doesn't work with "EVR Custom Pres" renderer.
I selected "Nearest Neighbor", went to Fullscreen and it clearly was not Nearest Neighbor ;)

By the way i went from powerdvd 7.3.2605 to 7.3.2911 and i got black screen on all players(powerdvd,wmp 11,mpc,zoom) using cyberlink decoder and dxva 2.0 and i went back to 2605 anybody else having the same problem??

In MPC's Internal Filters menu, when I hover my mouse over MPEG-1 Video, a tool tip appears, which says "6.4.0.3 Based on libmpeg2 (mpeg1 video decoding is bogus)". What exactly does it means??? Does that mean we should not use it for mpeg1 decoding coz its bogus? or is it something else??

Can anybody please clarify this??

Thanks in advance,

You CAN seek with it (you can click at the bottom)! (PS: I don't like the new seekbar :) )

For me, there's nothing useful in these builds, since I've got XP and I use Haali's renderer, but I'm helping discover bugs.
Anyway, thanks for your work Casimir!

One question (not related to these builds): I often get a message at the status bar when a second entry tried to be played in the playlist (or if I play 1 file, then I double-click in a file manager) and MPC can't open the next file:
"Faild to query the needed interfaces for playback"

What the heck is that? It's drive me crazy... :( (It's renderer independent)

EVR custom (bicubic -1.00, 10 buffers) + H264 + DXVA = no acceleration (8-12% CPU)
EVR + H264 + DXVA = acceleration (2-4% CPU)

Also, crop don't work with EVR.

For me in EVR custom the aspect ratio goes askew! It seems to default to 4:3, I have to manually override it to 16:9 and all is fine! :)

The picture quality in EVR custom though is better, so the resizer etc settings do work! I made comment in another post about an interface and name update, maybe if someone reading this thread is interested?...! The other thread got carried away a bit, I just think a modernisation of the buttons, colour scheme etc would be great. A good reason for this is that the buttons can get a bit small at high resolutions! Anyways, we all appreciate the great work you are doing with MPC! I don't expect you to work on the interface, its more of a 'that would be nice if anyone is interested in doing it' kind of thing. I'm not talking theme support! just bigger modernised buttons and colouring mainly! (thats when not in VMR9 mode etc, the slider bar there is nice and big)! 3D buttons anyone? lol

Could you please adapt your mod to use Escape and F11 buttons for exiting Direct3D fullscreen?

During D3D mode, the context menu doesn't work properly, it disappears almost instantly. I guess that is a limitation of D3D. But perhaps you can pause the movie and properly show the menu? Otherwise I think it would be better to disable the menu entirely in D3D mode.

I also have some weird problem in D3D mode. The taskbar appears and starts flickering. This only seems to happen after pressing alt+enter twice.

Seems there is some bug in MPC's internal VP6 decoder (and ffdshow's decoder is also broken).

Video sample: http://nwfiles.gorodok.net/VP6_MPC_internal.test.avi [771 Kb]. On MPC with internal VP6 decoder it plays corrupted and hangs at the frame #121 (with ffdshow decoder MPC doesn't hang, but there's just black screen all the time). With On2 VP6 DShow decoder all decoding is ok.

Are you using YUV mixing option? If so try to remove it and leave just VMR9 mixer mode i think there is a bug with this option

I'm not using VMR9 at all, I'm on VMR7(windowed).
Anyway selecting VMR9 shows no video(a black screen only) with sound.

EDIT:
Ok, sort of solved the VMR9 issue.
The VMR9 colour controls were really off and a reset shows the picture.

Changing the subjetct a little... I think that the only problem with FFDShow MPEG decoder is that it can't know when a video is interlaced or not, so you must keep 'Deinterlacing' enable all the time (not good, I know) or enable only when you see the 'empty lines' cutting all the frames, hehehe. MPC MPEG internal decoder, in the other side, seems to know when a video is interlaced if you set the decoder to 'Auto'. BTW, for DVDs I can't use 'libavcodec' because it stutters too much. Libmpeg2 do the work perfectly. :)

Aha, new shader :P

Well as i tested it, it seems to be a shader which does identity transform for now. But you can tweak brightness/constrast constants to approximate TV->PC range conversion.

In that shader (use Edit from menu), find constants definition lines and change two of them into
#define Brightness -0.08
#define Contrast 1.15

Profit! :P does conversion with high speed here, not slowing down main CPU. So if someone does proper conversion on shaders, it is gonna be fast indeed.

Edit2: It seems if I use the mplayerc.ini from mplayerc_homecinema_v1.0.6.0.zip (http://img92.imageshack.us/img92/3461/casimir6663hs5.jpg) with 1.0.8.0 I don't have the problem. The mplayerc.ini from 1.0.7.0 (http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/1488/casimir666tz9.jpg) results in blue and yellow colors. For 1.0.8.0 which doesn't have an mplayerc.ini (http://img501.imageshack.us/img501/7108/casimir6662vq7.jpg) bundled with it the picture is black and white.

What is YUV mixing for? the M$ page just seemed to describe it as something that would benefit old cards with low amounts of memory.

@Casimir666
Do you have any idea why the video is stoping for a milisecond (micro lag) when opening the OSD Slidebar (same for MPC's normal Slidebar) ?

Why is it d3dx9_29.dll?
What if I put d3dx9_31.dll?

If not there it will automatically look in the system folder?
