Any chance you can just take the filter from mpc-hc (MPCVideoDec.ax?), set the merit to preferred, and with the right hardware, get DXVA from any player?

Personally, I would like to use WMP or more specifically the media center app so i can stick with my remote control!

Also, I'd like to use XP MCE but I can use Vista if necessary.

Yes,I've been doing that exact process with Jriver's Media Center 12. Works great.

It is a bug of ms dvd navigator, if you use Cyberlink's dvd navigator it works for me. (can't with mpc)

So is there another DVD Navigator that works with MPC that we could use? I tried looking for one, but all that comes up is the MS one.

Ok I found this latest release has a SERIOUS FLAW! It will not play at all the file..

(higure-subs) D.Gray-Man 81 [36EA2209].avi

Now I have tried this with the original mpc player and it works perfectly fine! Works perfect in Graphedt, Gspot, and Zoom Player. So this is a media player error and not a codec error. Due to this very serious bug I have had to go back tot he original mpc because what good is an mpc that will not play a file at all.

Yes! I have been doing excactly that for some weeks now. Note there are 32 and 64 bit versions of MPCVideoDec.ax, for Vista Media Center you need to register the 64 bit version (+ of curse the corresponding 64 bit mp4 or mkv or whatever splitters). You can either compile these files yourself from SVN or download older versions.

Ok I found this latest release has a SERIOUS FLAW! It will not play at all the file.....

Although I don't know how this file was encoded, I strongly suspect this due to a particular problem that has been reported several times without beeing noted/getting a response: I also have some files that apparently do not play, but it might work randomly if you try to start playback several times. It might be an internal buffer/timing problem. During debuging, files that apparently do not start cause the same error as other files during seeking (also randomly: some times it works, sometimes a "debug assertation fault" at line 224 in dxva*something*.cpp comes up).

How do you compare "r" release names against "v" release names? eg: r492 v.1.1.0.2? Is that right?

Is there a 64-bit version newer than v1.1.0.0?

The r (release/revision) number is what you should look at to tell the age of the build. The 1.1.0.0 on sourceforge is r433 and I don't think anybody has compiled a x64 build beyond that.

Is there a noticeable quality difference between the internal mpc-hc h.264 decoder and the cyberlink decoder under DXVA? Should there be a difference since its hardware decoding?

I ask because I'm about to give up on the mpc-hc decoder under hardware acceleration. Cyberlink plays x264 fine but mpc-hc looks like this:
http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/6883/mpchcdxvatd8.th.png (http://img146.imageshack.us/my.php?image=mpchcdxvatd8.png)
(I'll save you a click... it looks like ass... blocky, that is)

Setup:
- Vista 64-bit SP1
- 8800GT Forceware 169.44 beta (Recommended for use with Crysis Patch v1.2 :) )
- MPC-HC r.492 or 502 & EVR (v1.1.0.0 just hangs)

test files: 1080p x264 mkv's -
some L4.1 compliant streams, some not. All L4.1 files look bad because they are being hardware accelerated. Some files that are not L4.1 get accelerated while some do not. The ones that are hardware accelerated look blocky like above and the ones that do not get hardware accelerated look fine.

I look forward to your comments...

I get a green screen with dxva

Same thing happens when I try to do DXVA on non-L4.1 mkv's using Cyberlink/EVA in mpc-hc. At least the mpc-hc decoder is a little more graceful in this situation and just doesn't do DXVA.

Hi there,

I like the dxva-Option, works great here with Vista and 2600xt (on Dualscreen only after regtweaking from http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showpost.php?p=11659897&postcount=2121).

One or two suggestions. I'm running a dualscreen setup, primary display is a tft monitor and secondary a lcd tv.

I played a little with the Direct 3d fullscreen function and saw that the video window is detached from the player window, so I was able to move the player window back to the primary screen while the video was played at the secondary screen.

Is it possible to make some use of the parameter /monitor that is showed when run mplayerc /? so that the playercontrolswindow will be on the primary screen while the video is played with direct3d on the secondary screen?

Like "mplayerc videofile /d3dfs 2 /monitor 1" for example.

If this is not possible it would be nice if the Contentmenu will be available on the taskbarentry of mplayerc, like emule has one.

btw, the save function in the playlistwindow isn't working anymore.

I'll ask in a new topic if it's not relevant here, but can the MPC h264 filter be use in other directshow players? I use J River Media Center for my playback nowadays, and it'd be nice to have the internal MPC filter as an alternative to CoreAVC.

Thanks in advance.

Can we add an option to 'Exit Media Player Classic after playback'

My HTPC is an AMD 4400X2, 3 GB memory, nVidia 7800GTX, MCE 2005 machine. I'm getting horrible tearing on many of my 1080p videos, and the only option I've found is to use Direct3D full screen mode. When complete, though, I can't exit the program using my mouse because I can't see any menus. I must find my keyboard (which I never use) and hit ALT+F4.

Thanks for the great program.

close(ctrl+c) and exit(alt+x) are already defined in MPC,
so you need to do is allocate it for mouse button.(e.g. on intellipoint) ?

The MPC-HC project site provides stand-alone DirectShow filters, the H.264 decoder being MPCVideoDec. Place MPCVideoDec.ax in the System32 folder and register it using regsvr32 MPCVideoDec.ax
The filter that will be used by default is the one with the highest Merit Value.

Modified Sun May 4 11:33:32 2008 UTC (7 hours, 39 minutes ago) by casimir666
Added : Ukrainian translation
Added : Evo & M2TS media format (for mpc file association)

now all we need is a built in splitter :D

That change only applies to the file associations part of MPC, so it is something you could already have easily added yourself in the past.

The build-in splitter already supports M2TS.

At the moment I have no idea how to fix this, since i didn't have this problem with my ATI 3850  There is no deliberated luma treatment done by mpc, so the responsible should be the video driver. Question is : why is it working with Microsoft EVR and not with custom....

Blu ray use M2TS and EVO is for Hd-dvd (RIP). M2ts is not completly managed by build in filter, because VC1 and MPL for example are not detected. I'm working on it to have an "out of the box" parser but don't know when it will be finished.

Casimir666, I think I reported you a working fix for that a while ago.

you need to uncheck "draw borders" in the EVR settings.

it's been said on some other forum that this was a working fix.

anyway, a quickfix would be to resize to the native resolution of your display with ffdshow.

if that doesn't fix the issue, then yeah this would be drivers related...

you need evrprop.dll

Two problems:

- The changelog says informative things like "fixed some bugs"

- Even if it did say something detailed, I would not know when to check the changelog, without a post to this thread.

I have two long running grievances with MPC that I thought I might as well air now that development has resumed.

1. Queuing is a real pain. There's no option to add a context menu to explorer for enqueue and even if you manually add them, MPC will not enqueue more than one file at a time if it isn't already started.

2. The playlist lies on top of the video, doesn't auto-hide, and theres no icon for it.

If one of the developers could find it in his or her heart to address one of these things, it would be much appreciated. If not, MPC is still the best player around.

clsid
5th May 2008, 10:40
You can disconnect the playlist window from the player. Just drag&drop. But I agree that the playlist is pretty much useless in its current condition.

It would be cool if MPC could get the "snap to edges" functionality that for example Winamp has.

WHY IS THIS ISSUE NOT BEING LOOKED INTO!

I have tried to get this avi file '(higure-subs) D.Gray-Man 81 [36EA2209].avi' to play in MPC Home Cinema and it will not playback at all.. Just a black screen no audio.. no error message.. nothing! So this player is seriously bugged and needs fixed when an avi file fails to play at all.

Now I have tried this with the original mpc player and it works perfectly fine! Works perfect in Graphedt, Gspot, and Zoom Player.

Yet not a single developer seems interested in fixing this bug so basically I had to delete this buggy software and went back to a WORKING mpc that works. And yes I have tried other AVI files some work and some do not it's not even consistant something has seriously been broken in this player when it comes to avi files. That is why I specifically named one file in particular so a developer could test it themselves and find out what is broken but not a single one has said they will look into it.

Oh, okay. I see that on my Vista laptop now, but it's missing on my XP box and I cannot find an option to add it. However, you still cannot enqueue more than one file at a time without MPC already being open, which really kind of negates it's purpose for most of the scenarios I would find it useful.

DXVA Support:

Modern video graphics card have the possibility to decode partially or completely a video using DirectX Video Acceleration (DXVA) and reduces CPU usage. MPC - HC has an embedded video decoder using this technology to decode H.264, VC-1 video. Unfortunately this decoder supports for the moment only bitstream mode, which means that only most recent graphic cards are supported.

* ATI Radeon™ HD, ATI HD3850/3870, AMD Hybrid CrossFireX™ 780G series for H.264 and VC-1

Let me please get some clarification on this recent change in support for dxva...

"ATI Radeon HD,..." that means all Radeon HD models? If so, why is HD3850/3870 singled out? The first time I saw the change I did not see the comma and thought that only the 3850/3870 models were supported.

And has all the problems with nvidia cards (including my own) led to the reason that nvidia is not in the list of dxva supported cards?

The homepage for the project still lists nvidia cards...

The homepage for the project still lists nvidia cards...

Well it DOES work! I do have a 8800GT (G92) and with properly encoded H264 (L4.1) files it works just fine -- apart from some problems I mentioned in previous posts (that nobody cares about). It works in MPC-HC and in any other media player after registering MPCvideodec.ax (+Matroskasplitter.ax) - both the x32 and x64 versions.
