In the current builds of MPC, when MPC cannot find a corresponding decompressor for a file, it shows the following dialog box:

The "look for codecs on net" links back to gabest.org, which is no longer active. Can this button be changed or removed?

Hey! Do I see a 16-235 correct presentation (0-255) with EVR Custom on 1.0.9.0? :D This is so great! Thank you!
Too bad Windows complain about Macrovision Fail when using strange codecs for DVD playback (I didn't check) with EVR Custom. :(
Anyway, there is just one bug to report. The EVR Custom filter window states that my video is achieving 0.09 fps average which is, obviously, wrong. Right click -> Filters -> EVR Custom Presenter.
Thank you for this awesome release, Casimir. ;)

A suggestion that might help newbie users:
When the Direct3D Fullscreen checkbox in options is checked, a messagebox should be shown with instructions on how to exit fullscreen (Ctrl+C).
Would it be possible to add additional keybindings for closing fullscreen? Microsoft uses F11 for toggling fullscreen in most of their applications. Another logical key would be Esc.

Concerning the above change, did anyone actually test that code? From what I understand the bug was originally brought up here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=127190&highlight=flv+metadata), with a sample (http://www.ashesandsnow.org/media/richmedia/video/18.flv) exhibiting the problem. That sample still fails with this code...or have I completely gone crazy?
I didn't think much of it at first but I ran into another video (http://www.cccp-project.net/beta/test_files/%5bVEOH%5d_Backyard_FX_-_09_Cyborgs.flv) (taken from Veoh) which also has the strange incorrect resolution bug. This sample however has an odd number of vertical lines, so slightly more evil. Both samples display with the correct resolution in mplayer though.
Can anyone confirm those FLV samples still display with the incorrect resolution, manifested by a blurry line on the bottom edge? The patch Casimir666 applied was supposed to fix this, but it looks like it didn't do anything at all.

Hi Casimir666,
would it be possible to add a commandline switch for the D3D fullscreen option?
I usually only use D3D fullscreen for watching DVDs on my projector, while I'd like to watch everything else (like video clips passed to it from my browser and such) in a window, without the player taking over my main display.
Since I launch MPC Homecinema for playing DVDs via a link anyway a command line option to activate D3D fullscreen when launching MPC HC would be perfect... :D
EDIT: By the way, there seem to be a few files missing in the SVN, most noticeably src/common.vsprops, src/debug.vsprops and src/release.vsprops as well as a solution file for the mplayerc app itself... I would have taken a look at adding said command line switch myself, but it's not much use if I can't even compile the code... :(
EDIT2: Exactly what version of Visual Studio are you using anyway? There's not VS 2005 project for most of the support projects in SVN, but also no VS 2003 project for mplayerc itself... so exactly what should one use to compile the program itself?
I can't just mix and match your sources and gabest's original project files and hope it'll compile...

When I use D3D fullscreen mode, sometimes other programs may popup windows. As a result, the screen is blinking and the keyboard shortcuts become unusable.
And I have a feature request. I want the Play/Pause, Close File and Close MPC button in D3D fullscreen bottom bar.
Try double left clicking around on the screen (in different places) until the flickering stops. It seems bring MPC-HC back to the front.
Has all official development on MPC stopped? The last build is pretty old.

Feature request: when we use SPDIF, MPC loses its ability to control the sound volume. Would be great if MPC could detect if an AC3/DTS filter (set to SPDIF) is in use, and so change the volume engine to the 'Windows main'.

1) User-definable icons for file types (best part of GOM is the icons)
2) Some way to fully prevent ActiveMovie window
3) PowerDVD-like file access speeds (or is it direct writes to the display adapter?)

Yeah I agree, sometimes mplayerc is a bit slower at starting to play the files :) if someone has time... lol (and the know-how), maybe the internal filters can be updated, as well as the base source code to include all the sse etc optimisations that its missing...?

Windows also tries to show some info (resolution, bitrate, etc) in the statusbar when you select a video file in Explorer. That also causes slowness.
Unregistering shmedia.dll solves that. It will also disable thumbnailing though.

Well, shouldn't the color be different if I use evr, compared to overlay or vista default ?
I read in the other mpc thread, clsid's, that the d3dx9_24.dll was used.
Am I supposed to use this .dll in vista.
I tried to register the dll but I couldn't.
I downloaded and installed the latest directx sdk, but I don't know if I'm still supposed to register the dll ?

It's the video driver that does the YUV->RGB conversion, not MPC, so you're totally at its mercy.
The dll just has to be on the path somewhere, I think, it's not a COM component. The system32 folder is the usual place for them.

I know this discussion was rather old, but some people said saving settings to an .ini was much slower than to the registry. Others doubted that.
But since the registry is an indexed database, you can access any value without the need for parsing a file which indeed makes it faster.

The Player should behave correctly if the user does not want it to keep any
file histories. The Original MPC does.
The Mod, even with "Remember File Position" disabled,
still saves the last 4 recently used files in the registry (or the INI file):
File Name 1=...
File Name 2=...
File Name 3=...
File Name 4=...
Please don't save any recently used files if both
"Keep History of recently Opened files" (Options-->Player) and
"Remember File Position" (Options-->Miscellaneous)
are disabled.
It's got to do with privacy and stuff ... you know ...
Again, this is only the behavior of the Homecinema Mod,
while the original MPC "respects" your privacy ;)
I guess this behavior was introduced together with the added
"Remember File Position" option. But if this option is
DISABLED there is no need to remember any prevoius files
(or positions within those). This should only happen if the user
decides to enable the checkbox.
Please change this, :thanks:

@casimir666
I have found a bug regarding that "remember file position" option.
If you let a file reach the end then mpc will play the next in the playlist but if you try to play the previous file again it will resume from the end meaning that it will just skip to the next track instead of playing the file from the beginning.
also regarding raynor case... probably both dvd and file entries from "remember dvd position" and "remember file position" should be cleared if those option are disabled or you should add a button in mpc to clear them like "clear dvd/file history" button.

[...] or you should add a button in mpc to clear them like "clear dvd/file history" button.
No, they shouldn't be saved at all if the checkboxes "Remember File Position" and "Remember DVD Position" are unchecked.
Nothing (as in: nil, niet, nada, nichts, rien) should be saved or remembered in that case ...
 ;)
Of course, If you had them checked, and decide to uncheck them,
the existing saved positions / file histories should all be cleared automatically.
All the best,
raynor
Kado
17th August 2007, 15:36
Well I said what you quoted in case the first suggestion is not possible. Those entries are only saved because you used the "remember" feature, they are not saved if you don't use the function.
raynor
17th August 2007, 17:08
Those entries are only saved because you used the "remember" feature, they are not saved if you don't use the function.
No, they are always saved in the registry (or in the INI file)
even if you DO NOT use the "Remember File Position"
feature (i.e. the checkbox is unchecked).
That is the whole issue. Don't believe me ? Try it for yourself :
(1) Delete all Gabest registry settings,
(2) use a fresh download of MPCHC, unzip it
(3) Note that the "Remember File Position" checkbox is already disabled by default (!)
(4) Also manually uncheck "Keep History Of Recently Opened Files" if you want,
even though this has got nothing to do with the other feature and is irrelevant in our case
(5) Play some files .... then quit the player
(6) ---> the file paths (e.g. File Name 1= C:\Videos\Something.avi)
are saved in the registry.
Again, If one does not use this feature, (which I don't) nothing
should be saved or remembered at all (and existing entries should be cleared
if the feature is used for some time and then disabled later)
Please, Casimir, change this behavoiur, and "respect" the chosen setting.
:thanks:

I have the same problem with Haali. Works fine under EVR custom though.
I've just done some testing. When using MPC HC 1.0.9.0 with internal MPEG-2 decoder and EVR custom, MPC will use the default "Video Renderer" for output, not EVR Custom (even though it is selected in the options). Is it a bug?
I've checked for both EVR and EVR Custom, no EVR output with MPEG-2 Internal filter (1.0.9.0) playing DVDs here.
If I disable the internal decoder, it will use Microsoft (Vista) Default MPEG-2 decoder with EVR alright. But it doesn't work with EVR Custom (so I can't use shaders to correct colors).
Microsoft's MPEG-2 decoder doesn't work with Haali Renderer either, so I can't get any color correction with this decoder. And the internal decoder with Haali gives me the stupid Macrovision Fail message. Hell !!!
It would be perfect if I could get MPC's internal MPEG-2 decoder (that is awesome) with EVR Custom or Haali. Or... if I could get Microsoft's MPEG-2 decoder (DXVA?) with EVR Custom. But I don't think the latter option has anything to do with MPC's development.

1) While I select - view> on top> while playing, sometimes when I open a folder/window it will cover up mpc(playing some video) rather than mpc itself stay on top while playing. But once I click on mpc again, it will stay on top even I click on the folder/window.
2) While I select - play> after playback> close, after video playback it shutdown mpc. I thought it suppose to close the video I m playing, m I right? Btw, this 'play' bug occur when i used the old mpc6940, haven't try it on mpchc or clsid updated version.

Can anybody with SVN access please upload a little patch for me? I've done the changes to Casimir's SVN, but I don't know SVN well enough to "upload" something.
http://madshi.net/dtsac3source.zip
Contained is a new version of DTSAC3Source.cpp (together with a new compiled dtsac3source.ax). There are 3 changes in the source code:
(1) m_AvgTimePerFrame calculation was incorrect for AC3.
(2) m_AvgTimePerFrame calculation was incorrect for DTS.
(3) Fix for problems with audio sync with Blu-Ray/HD DVD DTS files.
The problem with (3) is this: Usually 1536kbit/s DTS tracks have 2013 bytes per frame. But DTS tracks taken from HD DVD and Blu-Ray strangely only have 2012 bytes per frame. DTSAC3Source handled this mathematically correctly. But audio sync slowly drifted away from the video. We have to mathematically handle the 2012 frames as if they were 2013 bytes long to keep audio sync while seeking.

I'm afraid this won't be possible unless you're one of the developers of MPC HC, as nobody else has write permissions for the SVN repository on SourceForge.
You could post your patch here (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=170561&atid=854653), though, and point Casimir666 at it. Make sure you post a patch (as opposed to a full source file), though, as that makes it easier to apply it when other changes were made to that file in the meantime.
As for using SVN - grab TortoiseSVN (http://tortoisesvn.tigris.org/) if you want a powerful but easy-to-use SVN client. You can even use it to produce the diff I mentioned above.

Well, during/after the first reboot after the SVN client installation the Explorer froze and consumed my DualCore CPU so much that it took me several minutes of waiting to open the task manager and kill the Explorer. Might have been bad luck. Maybe the problem wouldn't have shown another time. But since I don't really plan to use SVN in the near future, I decided to go safe and uninstall the SVN client again.
