Thanks for the documentation. My apologies if these are really basic questions. (I'm new to HTPC stuff)
I've searched, but can't find any relevant answers. When I enable D3D Fullscreen Mode, I get the error:
CreateDevice failed
DX9AllocatorPresenter failed
0x8876086a
I'm running on a GeForce 9400. (Gigabyte GA-E7AUM-DS2H motherboard)
It seems to actually be working in D3D fullscreen mode, though I don't get any GUI, even with the option enabled.
I've tried updating my drivers and reinstalling DX9 without any luck.

What I am trying to do is to take a 24-bit 96khz 6 channel FLAC file and output it through SPDIF as an AC3 6 channel file (at 640k) to hear the 6 channel surround effects.
Have you tryed with reclock? It has an AC3 encoder incorporated. I don't know if it supports 96kHz, so give it a try...
Thanks for the documentation. Very clear.

As promised here are the documentation for the new settings.
Output RangeThis setting is used for specifying the OUTPUT range of the YUV to RGB transfrom.
0 - 255[INDENT]The output from the YUV transfrom is 0 to 255 in 8 bit or 0 to 1023 in 10 bit. This is the default and normally the best option for computer monitors and most TVs.
16 - 235The output from the YUV transfrom is 16 to 235 in 8 bit or 64 to 940 in 10 bit. This is the best option for some TV:s that expect the input signal at 16 to 235 levels.
Thank you Beliyaal.
In the Output section, could you add the expected Expansion behavior:
0 - 255The output from the YUV transfrom is 0 to 255 in 8 bit or 0 to 1023 in 10 bit. This is the default and normally the best option for computer monitors and most TVs.
Retains Black at 16, and White at 235 (requires adjustment to Displays Brightness control if mixing video and PC desktop content). BTB and WTW are passed intact.
16 - 235The output from the YUV transfrom is 16 to 235 in 8 bit or 64 to 940 in 10 bit. This is the best option for some TV:s that expect the input signal at 16 to 235 levels.
Expands Black from 16 to 0, and White from 235 to 255, clipping BTB and WTW, but allowing single black level for video and PC content. May exacerbate banding/posterisation.*
I might have that BACKWARDS!! Hence the need for the expanded explanation of expansion ;).
* The topic of debate, but banding is clearly visible in a smooth greyscale ramp that has been expanded, at least in my tests.
I always figure out which setting to use by trial and error, looking both and the black level moving around, and looking for banding in a greyscale. When my greyscale is clean, the black level will be higher than the desktop, and I know I have got my levels retained, which is how I want them.

I have a blurry bar in the bottom of the frame when I play any video using dxva, I've read a lot but couldn't find any solutions.
Also, is there a quality difference between ffdshow and mpc's decoder?

I think turning on or off VMR Mixer mode may help? Sounds familiar.
As to quality, no one else's eyes can tell you what quality is best to YOU. So try them both and go with what YOU consider the better one.

I think turning on or off VMR Mixer mode may help? Sounds familiar.I think turning it on fixes it, buuuut...it makes it lag, including non-HD stuff
also, SD stuff gets displayed at the container resolution
This is all for VMR9
ffdshow also only supports 32/48kHz AC3 output.
That's okay, as long as I can tie the frequency converter output to the input of the AC3 encoder.
Have you tryed with reclock? It has an AC3 encoder incorporated. I don't know if it supports 96kHz, so give it a try...
It doesn't. I need to downsample to 48KHz with ffdshow before giving the audio to ReClock, otherwise there is no sound.

I'm seeing those as well. I'm pretty sure I didn't have that in 1089. Actually, 1089 x64 that I'm using right now don't have that at all.

Hi Beliyaal,
still no luck with VC-1 Decoding and VMR9 Renderless - just gives audio with a black screen with V1090. One more interesting tidbit. The scenes which give a slight occasional judder (one repeated frame) with the inbuild DXVA engine and your render code, work perfectly if i use the cyberlink powerdvd 7.0 h264 decoder (also in DXVA mode). Either it initializes the card differently, so its just a little bit faster, or it does something else differently. This is reproducable switching between the two decoders. To bad it doesn't decode VC-1, but there is still hope left here!
regards,
Casshern
I have submitted some fixes to SVN. Check if they work in a SVN build later than or equal to 1089:
Extra (gray) pixels at bottom and right of video when decoding with DXVA removed.
Bicubic resizer checker pattern when zooming.
Tearing when subtitles are enabled possibly fixed.
Bad render performance when coming back from other session / display settings changed / changing channel on TV / etc.

Yes, you have it backwards. The 0-255 and 16-235 in the names are referring to the black and white position in RGB output.

The bicubic checker pattern bug is still there in svn 1093... Seems like fixing one thing breaks another.
I noticed that the bug appears only when using 3D surfaces, so maybe it has something to do with it. Also I'm curious if this happens on nVidia cards too, or it's an ATI related bug.
I'm on nvidia and the checker bug is there, too. It really shows when watching SD material on big screen.
Hypernova

I had the checker patttern on 1090, but with 1093 it's fixed. So maybe now it's Nvidia specific?
As promised here are the documentation for the new settings.
Accurate VSyncCan be used to disable accurate VSync. If accurate VSync is disabled CPU usage is slightly decreased, especially when alternative VSync is also disabled.
Alternative VSyncEnabling alternative VSync will bypass the default VSync built into D3D. This can often get rid of tearing issues and is the preferred mode of VSync if your hardware/drivers are compatible with it.
All of that post is good information, but I think you are so close to that project, you are forgetting that you need to define " Accurate VSync " and " Alternative VSync " and explain when and why it is needed. (And also, you need to specify how a user knows whether their hardware/drivers are compatible with it.)
Thanks!

Some hardware does support Divx(Xvid).
However since there is no DXVA support for that in MPC-HC your point still stands :)

I would NOT make it an DXVA enabled/disabled display only. I would make it broader, displaying the decoder used (and if available DXVA info). This would not waste the space for a single bit of info: So it could read something like:
Decoding with FFDSHOW
Decoding with MPC Video Decoder (DXVA enabled)
Decoding with MPC Video Decoder (DXVA not used)
Decoding with Xvid
etc...

LPCM decoder still doesnt work correctly.
All mono LPCM tracks in m2ts containers I've tried so far are unplayable.
They slow down movie to half speed making it unwatchable.
Blurays I've tried are both criterion bluray releases.
This problem is the same as ffdshows decoder.

I disagree on multiple levels:
1) If i deselect a decoder in mpc, the merit system takes over and it is not clear which decoder windows chooses
2) There are other decoders than MPC's that use DXVA. For example i have the cyberlink h264 decoder on the preferred list, and that also uses DXVA if possible, but also falls back to CPU decoding if the stream is out of DXVA spec.
3) If one follows your reasoning all info is unneccessary as we all know which streams are DXVA compliant, which filters are choosen on merit and so on. Then one could also get rid of all other sources of information: filters menu, ctrl-j stats etc.
I think it is reasonable to display the filter that might/might not use DXVA (see 2). I personally am satisfied with the ctrl-j or the filters property pages that can also easily be accessed from mpcs menus - but somebody felt that additional DXVA info should be displayed even more prominantly. And if one thinks about redesigning the status window info - i think one should explore all possibilites.
That's all very unnecessary. We know what decoder we are using, since after all, we enabled them in this first place.

Hi,
with V1094 the internal dxva decoder does not work with h264 anymore Ie.g. the euro bd of Star Trek 1) when using vmr9 renderless, Win XP and ATI 2x00 boards. Its now the same as Vc-1 (which was broken starting right after the beliyaal merge at least with V1053) - it just gives a black screen (Beliyaals V25 is the last version where everything works - after that i only tried v1053, which does not work)
Now to the bright side: The cyberlink h264 decoder still works in DXVA mode in VMR9 renderless and the internal Vc1-DXVA decoder still works with EVR CP. Here i also noticed an improvement: now i can use the vsync options with an offset of 0 without any corruption, i do not even need flush GPU after present anymore (the other two GPU flush options are still required though). I also noticed there is a new "lock: xxxx ms" in the stats screen - i somehow think thats related. Care to comment Beliyaal?
I just hope Casimir fixes the internal DXVA decoders soon.
bye,
Casshern

Some parts of the pipeline should still be 10 bits without fullscreen mode. It might be that your drivers doesn't support 10 bit backbuffer in fullscreen mode (for flipping). I will look at making it work with some parts of the pipeline in 10 in fullscreen as well.
