Play with DXVA but comes with fits and starts. Without DXVA - play fine.
rev 1150 still broken...
http://movies.apple.com/movies/lionsgate/shrink/shrink-tlr1_h640w.mov
rev 1137 is playing the file just fineWorks fine with 1150 with and without DXVA here. XP SP3, 3850, Cat9.2, VMR9(renderless), Mixer mode "on", YUV Mixing "on".
Play with DXVA but comes with fits and starts. Without DXVA - play fine.Do you mean the startup stops and starts, but once started playback is fine. if so, this has been true of streamed .mov files (not locally stored .mov files) for a long time (as long as I can remember, but not sure how long that is!). It does go away when you disable DXVA mode, so it seems the video may be switching back and forth between DXVA and non-DXVA at the start for some reason. I had just accepted this, but it would be good if it could be eliminated.
.....I should add I am using Directshow for Quicktime files.

does anyone know what this option:
Options > Subtitles > Delay interval (default value is 500)
Is supposed to do?

does anyone know what this option:
Options > Subtitles > Delay interval (default value is 500)
Is supposed to do?
when you hit F1/F2 it does + or - "delay interval" on the subtitles timings.
tetsuo55
4th June 2009, 16:28
I think we need to add a popup description for that.
By default the subtitle delay is disabled.
You can enable it by Pressing F1 to add a delay and F2 to remove a delay.
The delay is added/removed by the interval specified (default 500)
EDIT:
Sourceforge appears to be down
EDIT@:
Is the current delay value visable in the OSD somewhere? does is specify explicitly if its positive or negative?

So QT-lite 2.9.0 and the built in software filters work.
But DXVA is broken.
Confirmed by multiple people now, but the playback acts different per user.
There might still be some setting that influences playback, but it's clear this can be added to the bug tracker, so please do so.
EDIT@:
Is the current delay value visable in the OSD somewhere? does is specify explicitly if its positive or negative?
yes, with OSD on it will tell: "Sub delay: +/-xxx ms"
the same goes for the audio delay, that can be set with the Numpads +/- by a default 10ms: "Audio Delay: +/-xxxms"
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii259/gngnmumu/dxva/th_subs_delay.png (http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii259/gngnmumu/dxva/subs_delay.png)

Thanks,
Does the status information bar or the CTRL+J also show it?
"Display Stats" on XP wont show any change in audio/subs delay.
but audio delay when changing value is visible in the status bar. subs delay not. you are right about asking, kind of bad if OSD is not turned on. should be a feature request.

Sorry for not giving more details. The file is locally stored and as ShadowVlican already said dxva has broken playback (plays, jerky frames, then freezes).
I'm not using qt lite, either. Default settings for mpc-hc, with latest directx and 185.85 nvidia drivers. OS is win7 (x86)
So QT-lite 2.9.0 and the built in software filters work.

There might still be some setting that influences playback, but it's clear this can be added to the bug tracker, so please do so.DXVA on that clip (specs as above) works fine here (not counting the stop/pause at startup, which has been there way before 1150).

I'm currently suffering from a strange problem that results in non-fluid playback using the latest Media Player Classic SVN builds when outputting DTS via SPDIF:
For some reason, latest SVN builds seem to play the movie to slow in this (DTS-SPDIF) configuration, here is a screenshot of the stats while playing:
http://nv-systems.net/pics/forumdoom9/DTSspdif-FrameRateVariations1.jpg
Please note that "Clock" in the upper right corner is 98%.
But every 5,7 seconds, framerate spikes and movements are for a fraction of a second (0,5s or less) noticably accerated.
This can be seen here:
http://nv-systems.net/pics/forumdoom9/DTSspdif-FrameRateVariations2.jpg
Note that "Clock" in the upper right corner has accelerated way beyond 100% !
Here is a section of the graphs, showing the time this happened. This happens every 5,7 seconds and always looks the same.
http://nv-systems.net/pics/forumdoom9/DTSspdif-FrameRateVariations3.png
I've spent hours investigating this, and this is what I've tried and what has not changed anything:
Does not have any effect:
- Happens with both the internal MPC DTS Filter (when set to use SPDIF) and with external ffdshow (when set to use SPDIF)
- Tested on both Windows 7 x64 and Vista x64 on two seperate Systems
- One system had a GeForce 8800GT, the other a Radeon 4870, both with very recent drivers
- Tested with Default Audio Device set to SoundMAX SPDIF Interface and a Creative X-Fi SPDIF Out and the default driver "Digital Audio (S/PDIF) High Definition Audio Device " on the Windows 7 PC.
- Tested with both VMR9 and EVR Custom, also tested Overlay
- Tested with both CoreAVC and the internal MPC Video Decoder (using DXVA)
- Also tested a 64bit MPC SVN build (i'm using 32bit MPC most of the time despite having a 64bit OS)
All those things tested above have NO effect on this.
Does have an effect:
- Whether SPDIF out is enabled in ffdshow
- Whether SPDIF out is enabled in MPC's internal DTS Filter
(Once SPDIF is not used, the "Clock" in the upper right corner immediately goes to ~100% and the problem is gone)
- The version of Media Player Classic: The SVN Builds 1101 and 1137 both suffer from this, but the latest MediaPlayerClassic Homecinema Final Release (Build 908) dated November 29th 2008 does NOT suffer from this !
(the old release unforunately does not have the cool stats, but the problem is clearly gone with this version (tested on both PCs and confirmed by two different persons))
- AC3-SPDIF with works perfectly fine, both with the internal Filter and externally using ffdshow ! This problem happens _ONLY_ with DTS !
Anyone got any idea why this is happening? The SVN versions are really great except for this, and I would really like to continue using those! Also, any upcoming new official "Home Cinema" release is likely to exhibit this too, so I would really appreciate if someone could fix this !
EDIT: I've opened a bug for this HERE (https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=2810264&group_id=170561&atid=854651) (which contains some additional info, for example that it works with SPDIFER and that the problem was introduced between build 1043 and 1050)

My experience was that DTS over SPDIF has never worked with the internal transform filter; it always gave loud pops and cracks, drops in signal. I use Spdifer (http://ac3filter.net/projects/spdifer) (part of the AC3Filter project) instead.
anybody
4th June 2009, 20:06
Good recommendation! I just installed, configured and tested Spdiffer and the "Clock" is back to 100% and the video playback is no longer jerky every 5,7 seconds!
Now I just wonder
- why is both the internal MPC filter as well as the external ffdshow filter affected?
- why does it work with the official MediaPlayerClassic HomeCinema Release from November ?
it always gave loud pops and cracks, drops in signal
Have this problem too, but that wasn't really the one I was complaining about. DTS SPDIF with the internal filter has serious sound quality problems on my system too but ffdshow SPDIF output is perfectly fine.
... well except that BOTH internal and external ffdshow made video playback jerky when using DTS...

@ 73ChargerFan, anybody,
I believe this problem has existed for quite some time now right?
Can you guys find the regression point ?(last build working, first build breaking)
Also this problem has never been reported on the tracker so probably got lost in the thread somewhere, please add it to the tracker.
I'm not sure if the clock problem and crackle and pops are related but they probably are so both problems can be reported in 1 bug-report

They both look very good, way better than what i made.
Maybe both can be combined into 1 page?

I don't think the crackle bug is a regression - I've always had it, back to gabest's last version, before the forks. Adude also had the same problem, iirc. When I asked (and asked, and asked, ...) I was told that that part of the code base was written by gabest and has never been touched since.

I will try to find the first SVN build which breaks the video playback once xvidvideo.ru is back online.
I am quite sure though that the broken DTS audio quality has nothing to do with the "Clock" jerkyness though - I remember having the broken DTS audio for sooooo long, while I've only recently begun suffering from the jerky video playback.
Also using the external ffdshow for SPDIF out has perfect DTS playback quality on several systems I've tried - and this combination also suffers from the "Clock" problems.

@ Everyone,
I have the feeling there are still a lot of bugs experienced/posted about on the forum by the users here that are not on the tracker.
Please if you can still reproduce the bug after following the instructions in my signature add the bug to the tracker.
Some of the things i can think off that have not been reported are:
-Refresh rate detection issues
-Some of the multi monitor issues
-Many of the DXVA issues (especially ATI AGP)
-Splitter issues
-Subtitles issues

Follow the instructions in my signature. Is your card an AGP card by any chance?(if so you will need to follow some extra steps not mentioned in my signature)
the combination of settings you mention work completely fine for me and as far as i know all the dev's and regulars.
No, my card is not AGP.
And the general troubleshooting and updating hints in your sig do not apply. Did you even read my post?
I'm coming from a fresh install of XP, all new drivers and updates, clean new installation of MPC HC.
VMR9 is definitely broken with DXVA. Regardless of splitter and video decoder (internal or external).
However, with PowerDVD 8, which also uses VMR9 renderless, I have no problems whatsoever!

I have 2 problem with x64 MPC:
- I have a True HD Audio file, I can't read it correctly (I have test with and without FFDShow). If I mux it into an MKV it's work. Why ?
- I can't read FLAC file properly, some files work and some don't. Why ?
Thanks.

I've now created a bug for the sound corruption occuring when using DTS passthrough of the internal DTS Filter:Bug@Sourceforge (https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=2801424&group_id=170561&atid=854651)
Regarding my video playback jerkyness "Clock" problems, I have made some further tests tonight (and came up with some interesting observations) and will try to submit a bug with a good description and a test-file this weekend...
We might have to postpone some of these audio issues until beliyaal finishes the video renderer
Well, it's actually a video issue when playback is jerky, isn't it - so perhaps his rendering changes have caused it
Just strange that it only happens with DTS tracks and only in certain conditions...

Thank you for all of the hard work you are doing on MPC HC. The level of development and bug fixing is above and beyond. MPC HC is already arguable the best player out and it just keeps getting better and better.

Is the DVD Menu Cursor not highlighting bug in the tracker ?
It is documented extensively in my posts in this thread, including exactly where the regression happens, which alternate MPCs work and which don't, Casimir's theories about it, why some people do not experience it, etc.
As mentioned a few days back, it was not fixed in 1120 by the DVD changes made around that time.

Precisely he is trying to pin-point the problems so that the devs could fix it or find better solutions. We are here to solve problems not create. So, please everyone try to bare with each others (not just MPC-HC devs but all devs). Thanks.

I have a problem with AR in mkv files. x264 made video in mkv, created with AutoMKV, so it's the h264 stream marked with a SAR (--SAR flag to x264.exe). The flag was incorectly calculated at that time. Then I changed the DAR flag for the stream in mkv to the corect one.
Now the problem - in XPSP3, MPC-HC, VMR9 (both exclusive and not), internal h264 filter (both DXVA and not), with the READ AR FROM STREAM checked, the AR is wrong.
I thought that the order/priority is "read AR from conteiner" and if this fails "read AR from stream"?

I am actually the MPC-HC project manager, so i know exactly what i'm doing.
This bug is not on the tracker, i cannot reproduce on my system, can you please add it?Question to ALL : what you think about add to MPC-HC Windows 7 thumbnails features , for example(button on thubmnail) :

Lol, indeed that one works. But i get very blocky picture. Is that low bitrate issue or my card (hd 3xxx).
yes...very low bitrate.
Kurtnoise do you have more videos laying around to test? Just make sure ref frames exceed 4.1l limit for given resolution.
after some more testings, all I can say (w/ Catalyst 9.5 + build 1150) that HP@L5.1 work w/ DXVA except all 1080(i/p).
