Can anyone tell me the difference between resizer? What is the difference between Bilinear and Bilinear (PS 2.0)? And what is the difference between Bilinear and Bicubic? Is there a difference in quality of the picture (and I think it actually looks sharper when Bicubic)?
When I chose Bilinear or Bilinear (PS 2.0) it works smoothly, but when I use Bicubic, the picture doesn't move completely smoothly? Why is that?

clsid
25th September 2009, 17:19
PS 2.0 means that the algorithm is executed by the GPU (your graphics chip) using pixelshader technology. Otherwise it is calculated by the CPU.
You can find some comparisons here:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=bilinear+bicubic+comparison
And details about the two algorithms:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=bilinear+bicubic+algorithm

Mah
25th September 2009, 17:23
Thanks for answer! But still can I do something when Bicubic that moves smoothly. I mean CPU is only at 30% at it still doesn't run smoothly, but with bilinear it does. Even when DVDrip 700mb playing it doesn't move run smoothly. :)

clsid
25th September 2009, 18:00
That is probably because your graphics card is not powerful enough to do bicubic.

Mah
25th September 2009, 18:09
Probably.
I had no trouble with Bicubic in XP SP3 though.

Try different video drivers. Many error in DXVA - it's driver error.

Also for test try other DXVA compatible video decoder, like Arcsoft or Cyberlink.

Seems that with ATI DXVA implementation there are some problems:

This is my bug...

Though perhaps you could forward those requests to some sort of error page on another server so users don't get a blank white page and wonder wtf. Surly, a simple 307 temp redirect wont use up much bandwidth.

Anyhow, thanks man, glad to hear its not dead..

Now that I have updated my MPC-HC version in one of my computers, each time I push fullscreen or change the video's size the image is all black or fuzzy with different colors, but you can't see any video details anymore. It seems this bug was introduced in this last version, what happened?

My working version was svn 1269. I didn't changed the old settings, in fact I instructed svn 1281 to save these settings. I was using VMR9-renderless. When I changed MPC-HC to Overlay Mixer, all videos were normal. Is there a conflict with this setting in this version?

Try update DirectX to latest.

Offtopic: Is there a way to check what DirectX version I am using?

This machine was formatted 5 years ago and it's in bad shape (Windows is saturated, and I wasn't able to update XP SP1 to SP2 before, it returned some error when updating). I have another machine using XP SP3 and everything is normal there.

I hope the last DX can accept this old system.

dxdiag.exeTried dxdiag, but is not showing the version I am using. I assume it's not even 9.0, or 9.0c.

But one thing you guys (and the developers) are missing is that old versions can't use the latest DirectX available.

I mean, since my machine is using SP1 right now (I am not sure about older OS versions like 2000 or 98), it can't send any video to fullscreen or change the size without the blackout in the entire image. You can only watch preserving the original size.

So I tested build 1271 from this page and also not even a sign of this problem.

http://www.xvidvideo.ru/content/category/1/1/2/

Did you introduced this bug with the newer versions? It's also present on build 1285 released this week. What exactly has changed since 1271? Is this normal and a mere consequence of the development of MPC-HC?

What bug you talking about? Do you updated DirectX? There is updates for DirectX every 3 months or so. If you not installed updates in august - you have not the latest version so just install it.

The redist installs all versions compatible with your system.

These updates are not distributed through windows update, you have to install manually

The latest directx update fixes a nasty bug with scaling, if you dont update you either have messed up screen or keep suffering from the old bug that has existed for years.

Hi.
I have a lot of 3gp files, and they all have problems with audio.
To be exact, I can't hear the audio after playing 2 to 10 seconds.
BTY, Monogram's amr codec doesn't have that problem.

Thanks I missed that!

Though when I play my mkvs it always starts from the begining?

Does it have to play for a certain amount of time before it registers the position?

Also, test with commercial sources. That is not BD, but a re-encode which tend to be dodgy (amateur, beta software, low bitrate, and so on).

I have a problem concerning MPC-HC, EVR and DXVA.
DXVA does not work well on my configuration (I think my low-end GeForce 8400M with 128 MB is to blame) but it's fine with me since I don't need it anyway. But when I set the output to EVR, it forces me to use DXVA which is choppy on my system. Can I use EVR in MPC-HC without DXVA?

I have Media Player Classic HomeCinema v1.3.1264.0 installed (came with CCCP beta 2009-09-01b).

I'm using Haali Renderer under DirectShow Video Output, and noticed that whenever I play some movies at half speed, it doesn't obey it and plays the video at double-speed instead. Meanwhile, the sound is jittery because it's playing at half-speed.

This does not affect ALL the videos I have. I have not been able to specifically identify the culprit, so I can't say video codec X is causing the problem. However, I have reason to believe that any audio with variable bitrates will cause this to happen, since my videos with WAV PCM audio slow down fine.

Is there anything I can do about this? I don't want to switch renderers to something like VMR, since it makes stuff look muddy.

uncheck DXVA in Internal Filters

I can't find "DXVA" under internal filters. If you refer to "H264/AVC (DXVA)", it is unchecked and CoreAVC is definitely used as decoder but the status bar during playback still says "Playing [DXVA]" and pressing Ctrl+J reveals that DXVA is indeed used.

I think that's an issue of libmad. Decoding MP3 audio using libmad (either built-in decoder or in FFDShow) gives garbled squicky sound and accelerated playback when trying to use slow motion in MPC. You can avert it by not using the built in MPEG Audio decoder in MPC-HC or use FFDshow with mp3lib decoder for MP3 (libavcodec seems to not be optimized for all sampling rates as it gives horrible output for 22.1KHz MP3 audio).

Hi,

I try to find a way to playback some of the BBC - Planet Earth series in 720p format for example. I am using MP-HC x64 bit and during playback in filter sections the properties of MPC Video Decoder the DXVA mode is: H.264 bitstream decoder, no FGT. My CPU (E8400) used up to 2% with GPU (ATI 4850) 6 - 8%. So it looks like my system is not overloaded. However the movies I am trying to watch are stil not that good as I expect. The picture is frozen for a fraction of miliseconds pernamently.

I tried to use with and without DXVA but no success. The questions is if there are any better decoders or players which are able to use the entire performance capabilities of my computer - not only 2 - 4 % and play the HD movies smoothly?

On my previous system (Windows XP) I was using mplayer with ffmpeg-mt and all movies were much better than now - and now means since I am using the Windows 7 x64 and no possibility to take adventage of multi threading in mplayer.

I tried also MadVR with 32bit of MP-HC but there annoying problems were still there.

The MPC-HC during playback with DXVA anabled display the stats:
frame-rate : 23.98 - is it enough to display HD movies?

DomLof

Alt+Space = DVD menu activate (enter)

I've tried that (as I guessed it might be that), doesn't seem to work.

I even tried to reassign it to another key (like just space, removing the other assignment for space first) and it doesn't work.

Is there anything I can try to get it working?

I've tried this on both a Win7 x86 build and a Vista x86 build and it behaves the same.

The same DVD work fine in Zoom or PowerDVD

I've found I can enter a menu selection by moving the mouse and pressing the left button, but obviously not what I want to do while sitting on the sofa!

Please any pointers as to what is going on?

Thanks :thanks:

Maybe you can get rid of these micro-freezes when you increase the Haali Media Splitter input buffer size from 8192 to 50000-100000. I'm not sure, just try it out and please let me know if it could help to solve this issue.

Hi,

I don't think I ever use Haali media spliter, but anyway when I am using mplayer with option -cache [different values] it does not give any difference. So i think preloaded movie will not speed up playback. I am loading movie from local RAID hard drives so it is not a bottleneck.

At the moment the bottleneck for me is a software decoding the movie.

any other ideas? please.

1)Why not giving Haali Media Splitter a try (with a large buffer size)?

2)I'm a little bit confused about the option "-cache" now. Which version of MPC-HC is that? I just know options starting with a slash like "MPC-HC.exe /help" which shows a list of all available options but none of them in Unix-style like "-cache".
