Ok, I've been trying sereval setting modifications, but could not track that issue.
Please state your system specs like gpu and so, also your mpc settings like video renderer, used filters, dxva etc...
also make sure you are using the latest MPC HC (http://www.xvidvideo.ru/media-player-classic-home-cinema-x86-x64/) , DirectX (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3) and video drivers.
directx 9 (fev 2010)
gtx280 last driver whql (196.xx)
xp sp3
ffdshow video (ffmpeg-mt + deband) and ffdshow audio
mpc-hc 1680 + auto load subtitle function (I use subtitle renderer of mpc-hc)
no dxva

MPC-HC dose not display some external subtitles automaticly (ie .srt subtitle files) unless the playing vedio is AVC/H264 encoded or Manually recheck the subtitle menu. Is this A bug?
Yes this is a bug reported under #16 and #68 some months ago. For second language and hearing impaired users who have setup for auto display of subs it is a major annoyance to have to go and set them on manually after playback has started and by then you've already missed the opening dialog and have to restart the playback.
Hopefully someone will please take this problem on.

Hi,
Is there a way to be able to select custom resolution (defined from Nvidia control panel) in autochange configuration tool ?
Thanks.

I think that is normal because Overlay does not support dynamic resizing like most other renderers do.
Is this normal too then ?
Overlay Mixer has also a bug with no mod16 video which are not played using internal filters or not correctly cropped with DVXA.

Is there a way of rewinding a video file (such as mkv or avi) via a hotkey? I know MPC-HC has speed up and slow down hotkeys, but can there be a true rewind too?

I have troubles with my .m2ts filles when playing them without DXVA. Not all, only with the ones that are decoded with VC-1 video (so no problems with the H264 files). When I play a .m2ts vc1 file the video is choppy as hell (looks like it s running very slow, don t know how else to explain). As soon as I switch to DXVA decoding (enable it in ffdshow or the internal DXVA decoder in MPC-HC) it runs fine. However, I don t want DXVA but I want software decoding.
I tried the internal filter of MPC-HC, lastest ffdshow (tried wmv9 and libavcodec both) and I also tried CoreAVC as decoder. With all the same result.
Also tried to output as DTS-MA, regular DTS and 5.1 PCM output but this also doesn t seem the be the problem because the problem remains in all 3 settings.
What could it be?
System:
ATI 5670 with beta 10.3 driver
no aero
latest mpc-hc x64 with EVR custom as renderer and direct sound:ATI as output
lastest ffdshow with RGB32 HQ output
And one more thing I would like to know:
when switching to my Projector profile (1920x1080@23,976Hz) I always have to manually go to the ati CCC and choose 23Hz and apply this. Tried to save the profile at that moment but it doesn t get remembered by the CCC. Switching to my monitor and than back to my Projector profile again displays 24Hz. So I always have to go to the CCC and choose 23Hz and apply before running my HD movies. Is there a workaround for this or am I doing something wrong here?
thanks for all input!

No. That playback bug is fixable by padding the video. I am not sure about the cropping issue with DXVA.

Can I ask you to take a look at this thread (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=18218591#post18218591) over @AVS Forums. Please read down the rest of the page from the linked post. If you were bored you could also read back over the last 48 hours of posts; Especially this (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showpost.php?p=18215124&postcount=5558).
I have not really seen any other discussion on this around Doom or AVS Forums but it does appear that Overlay on W7 has been substantially improved and commercial Blu-ray players are using this to almost spectacular effect, almost by accident. Even PDVD7 seems to benefit and I am sure it does not have W7 support built in.
I know it is not EVR sync related but, ar-jar, as our resident renderer dev (:)) it may be there is something simple that can be done to assure a greatly improved Overlay renderer on W7. It may be many of these benefits are already there for some cards (or even all, it is a bit early to say)! Worth a look I think.

I think I was not clear (or I may have misunderstood your answer too :o) :
- non mod16 (720x404) video using Overlay with DXVA :
http://img10.hostingpics.net/thumbs/mini_561776dxva.png (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=561776dxva.png)
The strange bar where you can see Doom9's smilies matches the 12 pixels of padding which should have been cropped when playing (black part is the video but not capture because of overlay).
- non mod16 (720x404) video using Overlay without DXVA but internal filter : playing just doesn't start at all, screen remains black.
- non mod16 (720x404) video using Overlay with external filter (here Divx H264 Decoder) : everything is fine, it does play and no strange bar at all.
I hope it will make things clearer !

The issue without DXVA is a fixable bug, one that I have also reported already long ago. This is one of the reasons why ffdshow is superior to the basic internal decoder.

You need to install Haali splitter in order to use its renderer. Frame time correction is in Renderer Settings-->Presentation. You should only enable this for this video and not leave it enabled all the time.

About ticket #77 (http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/mpc-hc/ticket/77) "[MPEG4] mod16 resolution not supported with all renderers", should we read "mod16 resolution" or "non mod16 resolution" ? And is [MPEG4] MPEG4 ASP or H264 or both ?

Thanks for your help!
The image below shows monitor settings in CCC, and as you can see both my TV and PC monitor are connected, but I only enable the PC monitor:
http://www.maimuzi.com/HTPC/CCC1.png
Then go to display proerties, it shows my PC monitor only support 59HZ and 60HZ at 1920*1200:
http://www.maimuzi.com/HTPC/CCC2.png
When I open MPC-HC and try to configure auto refresh changer, the list contains all the modes from my TV with resolution 1920*1080 and 24HZ, 25HZ, 50HZ etc:
http://www.maimuzi.com/HTPC/MPC.png
I used the following to CCC profile to switch between TV mode and PC mode:

It may be many of these benefits are already there for some cards (or even all, it is a bit early to say)! Worth a look I think.Having been round the houses on this it seems that TMT (and probably the other commercial players) use EVR in conjunction with an overlay surface. This is completely different to the way Overlay Mixer is used currently and looks like it allows everything to be pre-rendered using EVR but displayed without expansion, and sometimes re-compression to video levels, which introduces noticeable banding. So this could be an optional add-on to EVR sync, much like the current "Use D3D Fullscreen" option, that would replace a large chunk of the reason for MadVR, which still does not support subtitles and/or DVD Menus and which Madshi currently cannot support.
By the way ar-jar, I think this is the reason why Reclock can use vsync correction with PDVD Blu-ray, not because it is using some fancy triple buffered EVR without D3D as I had suspected - its final surface is an overlay, so can be controlled independently in the way Reclock vsync was originally intended.

Added code such that the player loads (if any) the file "toolbar.bmp" to get the icons for the toolbar (play, pause, etc) buttons; else it uses built-in icons;
I see svn1718 has support for custom toolbar icons... Does anyone have a template for "toolbar.bmp"?
[Later edit] I did one myself (based on some foobar icons). Hope to see some better ones....

This could be a valuable option for correct levels passtrough and no banding, but not for madVR superior chroma upsampling, not to mention c3dlut.

Hello guys. Up until some days ago, I was using a 1400something SVN build of MPC-HC and changed to one of the latest builds (1701, to be exact). I noticed that when MPC-HC reaches the end of playback, the OSD message "Pause" no longer appears. Can anyone confirm that or could it be a glitch in my setup? Thanks!

Jong, with HD4XXX I believe Overlay behaves the same as commercial players(both output untouched YUV 0-255). I tried with my old HD4850, and it produces exactly the same result as PowerDVD, so I'm suggesting this can be a hardware or driver issue.

I use the 'autochange' fullscreen options of MPC-HC (big thumbs up for this feature!!!!).
When I play a PAL dvd movie (VIDEO_TS folder) MPC-HC does not switch to 50Hz (as configured by me in the fullscreen options). I think the problem is that MPC-HC first goes to the dvd menu which is not in 25Hz I think and that when I press the play movie icon in the dvd menu MPC-HC somehow cannot make the switch to 50Hz because MPC doesn t 'see' the correct fps? (This is only I THINK what is going on).
More people (living in PAL-land mainly) having this problem and is there a solution for it already?

I see svn1718 has support for custom toolbar icons... Does anyone have a template for "toolbar.bmp"?
ohai, since 1706 there is support for a file called toolbar.bmp in the app dir. if not found, the old iconset will be used.
what can you do with toolbar.bmp:
assure its sizes are (15 x height) x height; for example 240x16 (since 240 is 15 times 16); any size works
assure its bitdepth is 2, 4, 8, 16, 24; in that case RGB(255, 0, 255) (red max, blue max, green min) is considered the transparent color
assure the bmp is completely uncompressed (so Win32 SDK function LoadImage works; Microsoft Paint and Paint.NET save as uncompressed bmp)
the bit depth can be 32; in that case, RGB(255, 0, 255) isn't the transparent color anymore and information from the alpha channel of the image is used instead to obtain alpha / transparency; Microsoft Paint doesn't support 32 bit bitmaps, but Paint.NET does with the uncompressed bmpx plugin on their plugin forum (http://paintdotnet.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?p=317587#p317587)
i haven't tuned yet the volume slider for when using larger icons, like with a toolbar.bmp sized at 32x480, but it shouldn't look too awkward for that; with larger and more ridiculous sizes i can't see at this moment what you might be trying to prove :d

They both eliminate banding, but, for example, resizing is far superior using bicubic resizing.

Yeah I agree that EVR bicubic resizing should be better than Overlay, but according to my test they're very close. I think overlay is improved by ATI, but I don't know for sure.
For me, resizing isn't a problem because i only play 1080P, and if I need resizing I'll use FFDshow for that.

1720 build up:
32-bit (http://specchum.gemnetworks.com/MPC-HC/x86/mpc-hc.exe)
64-bit (http://specchum.gemnetworks.com/MPC-HC/x64/mpc-hc64.exe)
Also, I've noticed a few people are having trouble obtaining the custom libmingwex.a (libavcodec_gcc needs it compiling with -fno-leading-underscore), so I've decided to zip up my MinGW Folder (http://specchum.gemnetworks.com/MPC-HC/MinGW32_64/MinGW.7z) and provide an oh-so-brief tutorial on how to successfully compile libmingex.a. This 7zip file contains a fully working version of MSYS & MinGW along with the latest gcc 4.5 for 32bit and 64bit (works fine with buildffmpeg.sh)
Just unzip then edit X:\MinGW\etc\fstab to point to your ffmpeg_x64 directory then run MSYS;
type cd /ffmpeg
then type buildffmpeg.sh --updatemingw
This will download and compile the latest MinGW CRT and headers. Quick note: There is a small error in this script in that it'll compile fine then can't find the file it needs to copy, I will get round to fixing that one day...
All that's left to do now is to put the libgcc.a file from ..\MinGW\lib\gcc\x86_64-w64-mingw32\4.5.0 and the resulting libmingwex.a file located: ..\src\filters\transform\MPCVideoDec\ffmpeg_x64\root-i686-pc-mingw32\x86_64-w64-mingw32\lib\ into MPC-HC's lib64 directory and click build for the 64-bit and... OH NO, EPIC FAIL, WAY TO TEACH US SPEC!?
D'oh, unresolved external...(MPCVideoDecRU.lib(lib64_libmingwex_a-delayimp.o) : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol __image_base__ referenced in function __delayLoadHelper2 to be exact)
You need to edit delayimp.c which is located here: ..\src\filters\transform\MPCVideoDec\ffmpeg_x64\build\mingw\mingw-w64-crt\misc\
Search for, and comment out the line:
#define __ImageBase __MINGW_LSYMBOL(_image_base__)
so you have:
//#define __ImageBase __MINGW_LSYMBOL(_image_base__)
Then go back to MSYS and type:
buildffmpeg.sh --compilemingw
put the NEW AND IMPROVED libmingwex.a into lib64 and compile. SUCCESS (hopefully)
If all this is just "OMGWTFHOWMUCHWORK!" then you can just download a ready baked libmingwex.a from here (http://specchum.gemnetworks.com/MPC-HC/x64/libmingwex.a). Just place this into the lib64 directory along with your bog standard libgcc.a from:
..\MinGW\lib\gcc\x86_64-w64-mingw32\4.5.0 and compile away! (Assuming you're using the structure of my zip, of course!)

Before I assume this is a bug/restriction, I'd like to see if anyone
else has noticed the following behavior.
Here's the setup: I have two monitors (pc-monitor and tv-out
going to standard TV, both connected to my geforce 8400).
I open mpc-hc onto my 2'nd display (tv) and set it to full-screen
mode. I also have an mpc-hc tray icon active.
The problem is, whenever I try to control mpc from the tray
icon, the mouse cursor disappears - making it virtually impossible
(or very difficult) to navigate the drop-down menus.
Is there some way to disable the cursor disappearing in
fullscreen mode, either permanently as an option, or automatically
when the cursor is on the display that mpc is *not* using,
or perhaps when activated from the tray icon?
Thanks in advance,

Opened a problematic track like a PCM-m2ts and while it was playing i'd been able to select ffdshow audio as an external filter; it works anyway. (using ReClock WASAPI for PCM btw)
But when i just tick to the "external filters" button again on an another restart of MPC-HC, program shuts down itself again:devil:
Removed Haali, removed antivirus btw...
Really, i don't wanna re-install OS again?...thats very wierd, does it give an error message?

Perhaps you got an old version of DirectShow Spy installed?

Anyone else experiencing similar issues?

In build 1718, 3 of my AVI videos caused the player to open with the window width equal to the screen resolution width and a fixed height.
It only happens when "remember last window size" is checked.
(Last window size is not screen resolution width)
Most of my other videos still obey the last window size.
I had always locked the window size to a small window with "remember last window size" and no auto zoom
And all videos had obeyed the fixed last window size.
Was fine in builds before 1718, checked with 1705 and the 3 problem videos didn't change the last window size in 1705.

Is there a way to be able to select custom resolution (defined from Nvidia control panel) in autochange configuration tool ?
I think yes.

You're right...some custom resolution are available but another ones are missing
For example, I've defined and set my screen to 1280x720@48Hz in Nvidia Control Panel but can't find this custom resolution in MPC-HC configuration...
I'm wondering if this issue could be due to some EDID limitations (i.e. 48Hz support)? In this case, is there any solution to bypass this ?
Maybe we need a new option to set manually resolution & refresh in MPC-HC...
For moment, I use a script to change screen resolution according to frame rate of the movie (special thanks to Bill Slater ;) I'm sure you are here :) ) but I think it would be better to use new fullscreen option of MPC-HC...
Thanks.

Is it possible to add more AR presets, to be changed with the hotkey "Next AR preset"? I guess it is from Pan&Scan -> edit, but what does all those numbers mean?

The black bar shouldn't be visible when no video is playing. Can't resize it either.
It really seems like for every code change there is to fix a bug, two more bugs pop up.
