If you lurk around the AVSForum calibration threads, you'll find that most professional calibrators use a pure power curve around 2.35 - *however*, only for a batcave and only if your display has a really good native contrast ratio (e.g. newer JVC projectors). If you have *any* ambient light, or if your display is lacking in native contrast ratio, a 2.2 gamma curve might make more sense.
According to Poynton's paper (which was written in 2009/2010), studios are not quite batcaves: :)
* The reference display incorporates a power function (EOCF) with an exponent between 2.35 and 2.4.
* It has reference white luminance of between 80 cd/m^2 (EBU standard) and 120 cd/m^2 (SMPTE standard).
* It is viewed in diffuse illumination of about 100 lx in a dim surround having reflectance of about 18%, and surround luminance of about 5% of reference white.
Also:
Today’s studio reference displays have gamma very close to 2.4, reference white luminance of between 80 and 120 cd/m^2, and a contrast ratio of about 250:1. They are viewed with a dim surround, illuminated such that the surround luminance is about 5% of the reference white luminance.
If a gamma of 2.2 would make more users happy, I will make that the default value. In this case, 2.35 would become the "studio" value (instead of "recommended").

I think that more documented explanations will make the users happy (wiki) not changing the default (if you're right :))

NVIDIA Quadro does suuport 10-bit output in OpenGL, but Both Quadro and GeForce does support 10-bit output in D3D10, that I had comfired through run the 10-bit scan-out demo that included in MS DX SDK with DELL U2410 use Displayport/HD15 input.
Strange. I will try to get some official info about this. Are you sure it's true 10-bit, not some 10 to 8 bit dithering stuff?

If you had downloaded the DX SDK, I think you have better try it , I can not tell is it true 10 bit or just 10-bit to 8 bit dithering , because the transition of gray scale is smooth when switch to 10-bit full screen mode using both NVIDIA/ATI DX10 game cards.

I've just tried it out. I get banding with the 10-bit mode, so it seems that the GeForce really does support true 10-bit. :) This is good news. Thanks for the info! Too bad that it is not available in DX9 and OpenGL.

So for the nvidia dx10 users what is the best option to use in MPC? Should we activate the 10bit option or it´s useless?

The short answer is that currently Media Foundation and DXVA only work with DirectX 9.

http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/mediafoundationdevelopment/thread/fca0821f-8b5c-4722-bb59-844aef98f887
And this thread points to a library that takes care of the synchronization between D3D9 and D3D10/11:
http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/D3D9ExDXGISharedSurf
Is this of any use a_afra? Although MPC-HC isn't using Media Foundation IIRC, so this maybe does not help.

I have a crash when use - Full Floating Point Processing and try Shader On.
P.S. - if disable FFPP, set Shader On and then enabled FFPP - all work, but then disable/enable Shader - crash too.
Crash on - Win 7 x86, VS2008 and VS2010 x86 build, Intel G33/31 video.
Don't crash - Win 7 x64, VS2008 and VS2010 x86 build, ATI 5770 video.

I have a crash when use - Full Floating Point Processing and try Shader On.
In both cases, the problem is caused by FP16 texture support which is necessary for the color management and FFPP features. The Radeon doesn't support FP16 filtering. That's why you can see banding. However, the Intel doesn't support FP16 textures at all. If you enable only FFPP, it won't do anything, because no temporary textures are needed. So it's not surprising that it crashes for you if you enable some custom shaders.
Thanks for reporting! Unfortunately I have to add code to disable these for such GPUs.

Commit 2339 broke "something" in the Filters|Audio Switcher and Audio sub menus. What was it supposed to fix/improve in the first place?
Edit: The redundant sub menus appear only when using Haali Media Splitter. With MPC's internal splitters everything looks fine.

I don't visit this thread every day, so I'm sorry if this has been asked before.
Today I upgraded from 1.3.2128.0, which was still a MSVC2008 build I believe, to the newest one on xvidvideo.ru 1.3.2331.0, which appears to be a MSVC2010 build. Is it normal the program crashes immediately with VMR-9 (renderless), 3D surfaces and Bicubic A=-1.00 (PS 2.0) upon starting a video (no matter what kind), and crashes after ±15sec with VMR-9 (renderless), Regular offscreen plain surface and Nearest neighbor?
(I'm using WinXP SP3 on a AMD Athlon XP 3200+ (no SSE2 support), 1GB DDR400 RAM and an ATi Radeon HD3850)
The MSVC2008 builds from XhmikosR appear to be working fine for me though.

Yes, it is.

@ CoRoNe: To be a little bit more specific, this problem happens on all CPUs that only support SSE, like AthlonXP. The error you are having is caused by a bug in MSVC 2010, which will maybe solved by the upcoming Service Pack or with the next major release.
Just stick with the MSVC 2008 builds from XhmikosR and everything should be fine.
If you want more information about this, then please have a look at the post from GTPVHD (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1427868#post1427868), who provided this information.

BUG) Open two mpc-hc windows, change settings in window 1, click ok and exit window 1, close window 2. Upon restarting mpc-hc you will see settings wern't saved (or in fact window 2 resaved old settings on close). I suggest moving settings saving away from window close code.
This is a common behaviour among all kind of apps. Close instance A, settings saved. Close instance B, settings of instance B (= same as when instance B was started) get saved - overwriting settings of instance A.
Polcius
25th August 2010, 16:04
Yeah, it seems so. But the good news is that if you've created an ICC profile for the display, the only thing you have to do is to enable the color management option in MPC, then forget it. Otherwise, leave it turned off. Basically, this is all you have to know.
Ok, much clearer, you should put this on the wiki.

No problem here with 10.7 and my ancient HD 3650! I mean 10-bit RGB is working fine .
On the other side the "force 10bit RGB feature" is working for most H264/AVC 720p or 10180p videos. Not working for 720p and 1080p DivX or xvid videos.

On an unrelated note, the message indicating that MPC-HC has lost focus to <window title> isn't always correct. Just happened to me with a Steam window that had (2 of 2) in the title but MPC-HC wrote (%item% of %total%) or something to that effect.

Actually, as long as you don't set boost at min/max, everytime you exit mpc-hc, if you check registry or in your case .ini, you will most likely get different AudioBoost value. That's due to a float -> int round up in source file. If anyone else found that annoying, I could provide a patch.

So, I downloaded the standalone filters for MPC, and ran a command like:

(After having coped the file there, of course). This does nothing for my LPCM audio, though. So, which filter do I need to register to get LPCM supported?
