:D
Now if only there was some noise texture one could use in a shader to add some slight hi-res noise after resizing... *hint hint*
(At least I don't think doing a PRNG in a shader is going to work very well...)
np: Blamstrain - Lumi (Exosphere)
If we're dropping hints would debanding be possible via shaders?

Moving MPC window to extended desktop breaks playback when shaders are enabled. Maybe that can be fixed as well?

I have a problem with MPC , not sure if it was introduced in this new 974 build or not.
When using a DVD that I have, which has 5.1 DD and 5.1 DTS, the 5.1 DTS is shown everywhere as "5 channels", but the 5.1 DD as "6 channels" but in the pin out info for 5.1 DTS it says "Audio: WAVE_FORMAT_EXTENSIBLE 48000Hz 6ch 6912Kbps".
Maybe this could be made more consistent in a future release?

I mean in the View-> Information. This shows audio video info for me below my video. It says Audio: English, DTS 48000Hz 16bits 5 channels.....
AND
In Right Click Video -> Navigate -> Audio Language -> "Unknown %d, DTS 48000Hz 16bits 5 channels"
I don't know why it says Unknown, its just English...

Another bug I notice (Not sure if this is MPC's fault or the DVD)
But I have a DVD that if I sit and watch through the trailers, it gets to the Menu where I can click chapter selection / play movie etc. But if I use the "Next Chapter" button to skip through these, the player goes into an endless loop of going back to the start and replaying the ads.
Here is a more detailed description of the "Domain" mpc seems to be in during the process.
Playing Through Normally, no interaction with MPC
Click video_ts.ifo -> Title 3 -> Title 4 -> Title 5 -> Title 2 -> Video Title Set Menu -> Can Click Play Film
Clicking "Next Chapter" (really only needs to be clicked on Title 2 for it to loop back and start over again)
Title 3 -> Title 4 -> Title 5 -> Title 2 -> Title 3 -> Title 4 -> Title 5 -> Title 2 -> Title 3 -> Title 4 -> Title 5 -> Title 2 ->
This can go on forever until I let title 2 play out.

DVDs are not using the internal mpeg splitter so we don't have any control over this information as far as I can see. If you decrypt the DVD and play the vob files directly you should get the correct info (the code that was changed for 974).

OK, its not a big problem anyways, I can hear the DTS perfectly thats all that matters, just need evr-cp to drop frames only when need now, not constantly ;) Your the man on the job I hear :D Good stuff!

First off.
THANK YOU.
I have done some VERY limited testing:
*Windows XP SP3
*Nvidia Geforce4 MX 440 8x, 6.14.10.9371
*VMR7 and VMR9 renderless
VMR7 and VMR9 renderless have a bug with aspect ratio.
All other renderers are fine.
it looks like the image gets a 16:9 stretch(regardless of the current aspect ratio)
I tested about 10 files xvid and h264 and all the same result.

i tried Beliyaal's version a bit:
*Windows XP SP3
*Nvidia Geforce 8600GTS,
*VMR9 renderless
- also the bug with teh incorrect aspect ratio, but the problem goes away after i deselect "Keep Aspect Ratio" from the "Video Frame Menu"
- it seems to double the frame rate (screenshot above). Fraps is actually showing around 72FPS (75Hz CRT monitor regresh rate). also with DXVA enabled it uses almost 15-30% CPU, with "Display Stats" over 40%
- seekbar needs some time to appear in fullscreen mode when movie plays

@Beliyaal
First thanks to the great improvements to the OSD.
I have the same config that gngn (XPsp3, VRM9, Nvidia8600GTS, Reclock) has and I get the same issues: 48fps frame rate for 24fps movies (this is the frame rate that is reported, although it still seems to be 24fps),high CPU usage with DXVA, stuttering. In addition, I have frequent crashes when turning on/off options (like FullScreen) when a movie is being played.
On a side note not related specifically to Beliyaal's build, has anyone noticed that the internal MPC splitter is not compatible with Microsoft WMV VC1 DXVA Decoder: Whenever it is used, the video stutters badly while the same video decoder works fine with Haali splitter.
Anyway, keep up the good work Beliyaal!

Fixed: DTS HD MA audio data is stripped so only core data remains so DTS HD works with spdifer. Not sure if this is the way to do it? Is it possible to passthrough DTS MA currently? Should we leave it as this until it is?
DTS-HD (MA or HR) can only be passed through HDMI. S/PDIF is suitable for DTS (core) only.
Thanks for all the improvements. :)

Please evaluate my fixes to the VMR9 renderless and EVR Custom renderers and report any problems.
Ver2: Updated with fix for incorrect aspect ratio.
Ver3: Fixed open DVD crash.
Media Player Classic HomeCinema (x86), svn 976 + Beliyaal fixes ver 3 (http://www.olofsson.info/mpchc/MPCHC_x86_svn976_beliyaal_3.zip)
When reporting bugs please include:
* Operating system, and service pack
* Graphics card, and driver version
* Which output renderer you are using
* If in Vista, are you running aero with desktop composition (transparent window title bars)
* If possible also include a screencap with statistics enabled
Thanks!
This is what is different from SVN 976:
General fixes
Changed: The right click menus have been somewhat re-arranged.
Fixed: The OSD seek bar for in fullscreen no longer dissapears.
Fixed: DTS HD MA audio data is stripped so only core data remains so DTS HD works with spdifer. Not sure if this is the way to do it? Is it possible to passthrough DTS MA currently? Should we leave it as this until it is?
Fixed: The performance counter in AfxGetApp() run out of precision of a 64 bit integer, this caused its values to be incorrect after the computer has been running for a long time.
VMR9 and EVR Custom
New: Screen space pixel shaders.
New: New "Alternate VSync" mode added. Configurable in the Output settings.
New: When "Alternative VSync" is enabled in render properties you can control the VSync offset with Ctrl+Alt+Up and Ctrl+Alt+Down.
New: Misc statistics added to the statistics display (some of the statistics are only updated with EVR Custom renderer).
New: Right click menus are now available in fullscreen mode.
Changed: Status display now uses a fixed width font with a shadow to increase readability.
Changed: Use D3D9Ex device when available.
Fixed: OSD update in renderer made trhead safe.
Fixed: Video stopped rendering when pixel shaders are enabled and the video is dragged to another monitor.
Fixed: Centering of FPS jitter is now automatic.
Fixed: BeginScene/EndScene was used in many places. It should only be used ONCE per Present call. This fixed statistics display on Intel graphics.
EVR Custom Only
New: Added a audio/video sync offset graph to the statistics display.
New: The renderer now provides the Sync offset statistic in the interface (Displayed in the statistics bar).
New: Added a smoothing function of the graph clock to the renderer.
Changed: Moved the mixer processing to a separate thread in the renderer for better performance.
Fixed: Calculation of jitter is now correct with "weighted average" instead of just the diff of one frame.
Fixed: Buildup of frames in the frame queue was not possible when waiting for VSync which resulted in bad decoding performance.
Fixed: Added detection of invalid frame times to fix stuttering VC1 using the built in m2ts splitter.
Fixed: Dropping frames was not possible when Video FPS was greater than or equal to the Movie fps, which resulted in audio and video getting out of sync when seeking or just the video getting behind some frames
Fixed: Better detection of movie FPS.
Fixed: Pause the graph when the video is more than one second behind the audio to allow the video to catch up
Known issues
* Sometimes there are glitches in the VSync wait. I'm still investigating, but it seems to happen when another thread/process is locking the D3D device for an extended period. Might be partially fixable by predicting the VSync.
* Playing a video with HIGHER fps than the screen refresh could be smoother. Will implement fix for this later.
* EVR Custom seems to fail on XP. Not sure if it worked before. Will investigate more later.
When changing the audio stream "type" e.g. ac3 to LPCM or LPCM to DTS-HD or ........ but not when changing audio language (same audio type e.g ac3 french to ac3 english) I'm losing the sound even if I'm swiching back to the initial audio type and the video it's changing the speed !

I am testing Beliyaal Version 3 in my somewhat unique configuration (see my signature).
Playback is fine (but I have never had any playback issues of any sort with MPC-HC once I started using EVR-CP under Vista in full screen, but not D3D).
Removing things (like Full Screen toggle) from the right-click menu seems a step backward, you are asking the user to take longer to select options.
There is one problem, and I am not sure whether it is Baliyaal's version or just the latest MPC version (so I will test the latter now).
The problem is that after playing several different videos, MPC will hang trying to open an AVI file. It is always an AVI file (although that may be just coincidence). If I try to open the same file after a reboot, it works fine. So, I am guessing some sort of odd memory leak that persists after exiting MPC.
UPDATE: Problem does not seem to exist with regular 976 build.

DTS-HD (MA or HR) can only be passed through HDMI. S/PDIF is suitable for DTS (core) only.
Thanks for all the improvements. :)
Well I know that, but windows treats HDMI as spdif. So sending it might work if you send it over "SPDIF" if the spdif is HDMI in reality. That said I tried to get it work work without luck. Not sure if ASUS or ATI is willing to help to get this to work in non-PAP players.

Are you sure this is only a problem in my version? I don't have any problems switching streams usually. When I do I switch the stream. Press the stop button and press start again. Also have you waited a while to see if the audio starts after a while?

This must be because of the fullscreen gui support. Added option to disable Fullscreen GUI support. This is accessed through right click menu, or View menu.
You can also try the "Alternative VSync" option that will let you move the VSync position with Ctrl+Alt+Up/Down. With this enabled you might not even need to run in fullscreen, or might at least be able to use the menus in fullscreen.
------------------
The high CPU usage was because of debugging code left in (it spun waiting for VSync without sleeping). I have fixed this and added option for using "Accurate VSync". This will slightly increase CPU usage, but should you only need to enable it if you want a perfectly straight jitter curve, which isn't really necessary. Accurate VSync will always be used when enabling "Alternative VSync" in Output options.
Generally the best options for playback is:
First choice:
* Vista with Custom EVR + Aero enabled
Second choice:
* Vista with Custom EVR + Aero disabled + Alternative VSync: Calibrate the VSync with Ctrl+Alt+Up/Down and Ctrl+T enabled.
Third choice:
* Vista with Custom EVR + Fullsceen option + Alternative VSync: Calibrate the VSync with Ctrl+Alt+Up/Down and Ctrl+T enabled.
Fourth choice:
* Vista with Custom EVR + Fullsceen option + Disable D3D Fullsrceen GUI support.

I have my HTPC connected via hdmi, at the moment, I have always been able to passthrough dd, dts etc. With regards to DTSHD-MA, can this be done without PAP?
http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3411&p=2
AFAIK, the only way to send these type of HD audio codecs is if the HD audio is sent as LPCM to the receiver, as it does not require PAP. Are there any plans to enable lpcm transcoding from truehd,or dtshd-ma within MPC-HC? If not, the xonar hdav (PAP enabled sound card) hdmi sound card does pass through TrueHD and DTSHD-MA , only if Arcsoft TMT is used to play the media. Does anybody know if it's possible to have MPC-HC passthrough DTSHD etc, if the software can utilise this PAP feature of the card?
I am looking to purchase this card next month, I could test MPC-HC using the xonar for passthrough to see if this is possible, if work can be done on MPC-HC to allow passthrough of the current HD codecs, there has been limited success in some users using arcsoft's audio filters via MPC-HC to get passthrough of these codecs to their receiver's.
Excellent work with the progress of MPC-HC! Very impressed in turn around time.

As long as the content isn't encrypted (on a bluray) it shouldn't be anything preventing the audio from being passed through. The popcorn hour for example is passing these streams in the A-110 version if i'm not mistaken.
The only question is if ASUS or ATI is willing to support an non-pap path.
Apparently Arcsoft is using a private API to do this with ASUS. If I could get access to this API and information about how to use it I'm more than willing to implement this in MPC-HC. It's the only thing left to fully support HD content.

Thanks.
First enable "Alternative VSync". This will NOT work if you have AERO on as AERO has built in VSync.
http://www.olofsson.info/mpchc/AlternativeVSync.png
Then press Ctrl+T to enable tearing display while playing a video.
You might see a tear in the moving line. Move the tear up or down until it's outside of the screen. Use Ctrl+Alt+Up shortcut and Ctrl+Alt+Down shortcut to move the tear up or down. You should see a similar OSD message: "VSync Offset: -35" when pressing the shortcuts. If you hold the button in it will move until you release the button.

Thanks for the recent changes Beliyaal! Looking way better, and seeking is well handled now. In fact it feels faster :)
I've a weird problem though:
http://thumbnails2.imagebam.com/2395/955a1823945325.gif (http://www.imagebam.com/image/955a1823945325)
Thas is with all the VSync stuff disabled. Those sections with peaks are there for no apparent reason, and the motion becomes jerky.
A couple of things I've noticed:
- Subtitles are out of sync with VSync enabled only (MKV with H.264+PCM+styled subtitles). The delay is a fixed value. EDIT: Also with VSync disabled, delay is equal to 1 frame.
- VSync is always enabled after closing and reopening the player.
A couple of cosmetic suggestions:
- The black background, I think it's better without it.
- I second the petition to revert back to usual right-click menu in fullscreen (like in windowed mode). The options are too "far away" if you know what I mean :p
And a bug that has been there since forever, even in the no HC MPC, and affects the smoothness you're trying to achieve:
http://sourceforge.net/tracker2/?func=detail&aid=2498148&group_id=170561&atid=854651
You can see it better with the normal builds' graph. With VSync enabled the stuttering is even more noticeable because it tries to correct the peaks. Can you take a look at it when you have time please?

Could you provide an image with VSync enabled? That graph has almost no meaning without VSync as all it displays then is the imperfections in the time it takes to draw everything.
That is with all the VSync stuff disabled. Those sections with peaks are there for no apparent reason, and the motion becomes jerky.
Can you tell it's jerky even without the graph? Actually the only time when I have seen jerkiness with aero enabled is with VSinc OFF, since if you display a frame exactly at VSync time you get stuttering. It's very easy to see if you play a 23.976 movie at 24 Hz without VSync. As the paint time comes close to the VSync point it will start to stutter. That is why I sync to AS FAR as possible from the VSync point when Aero is enabled.
H.264+PCM+styled subtitles). The delay is a fixed value. EDIT: Also with VSync disabled, delay is equal to 1 frame.
How are you noticing a 1 frame delay :) I must know to be able to fix it.
- VSync is always enabled after closing and reopening the player.
This was deliberate as it doesn't make sense to have it disabled ever. Only as a debug measure. If there is a problem with VSync on I should fix that instead.
- I second the petition to revert back to usual right-click menu in fullscreen (like in windowed mode). The options are too "far away" if you know what I meant :p
The latest version should have this reverted. Not in D3D fullscreen mode however as you cannot get to all menus otherwise.
And a bug that has been there since forever, even in the no HC MPC, and affects the smoothness you're trying to achieve:
Why would you want to disable buffering? This only causes the rendering of subtitles to be done on the render thread, and stuttering is to be expected.

When reporting bugs please include:
* Windows 7 Beta 64-Bit
* ATI HD4850 with 8.12 driver
* EVR Custome (No fullscreen D3D)
* Running aero
Sadly with new version can't get a straight jitter curve :( Looks like new version can't play video with solid fps, fps is always jumping around videos fps value.
As mentioned when running aero it doesn't have to be straight. But your jitter curve looks a litte jaggy, so try enabling "Acurate VSync" and see if it changes:
Edit: Forgot to mention that you have to restart the player after changing the "Alternative VSync" option in output options. There is a bug now where you will get incorrect results if not restarting.

Even with the last version of MPc-HC 1.2.972.0 MLP soundtrack doesn't work, is-it normal because in the log file there is "Support for MLP audio stream"?
In Ghost in the shell blu-ray when i want to select mlp soundtrack, I d'ont have sound. I have sound just with lpcm soundtrack.
To have sound with mlp soundtrack i must use ffdshow
i give you 30 seconds of the video where mlpc soundtrack doesn't work (ghost in the schell)

I try the last version 1.2.976.0
I have sound only if my speakers is selected as mono in ac3 codec options

If I select 4.1 (2front+2near) or 5.1 (3front + 2 near) I don't have sound with mlp soundtrack.
If I select LFE I d'ont have sound even with mono
Rq: I have sound with other 5.1 .mkv video that use ac3 codec even with 5.1 selected in codec options
Rq2: I try also under vista and here i have only sound with mono or stereo speakers selected in ac3 codec options

.....
Are you sure this is only a problem in my version? I don't have any problems switching streams usually. When I do I switch the stream. Press the stop button and press start again. Also have you waited a while to see if the audio starts after a while?
Yes ! I've tested with Alexin's svn 976 too and had NO problem ! Also stoping and waiting had no efect with one exception : on one file with AC3 & LPCM when I let it play for a few minutes and then I switch surprise : NO problem ! but with the same file if I switch in the first 1-2 minutes I'm losing the sound ! Also on a file with AC3 and DTS-HD XLL waiting doesn't work! All files tested are m2ts with VC-1 1080i or 1080p !
Also a stranger thing it's happening whit the last file VC-1 1080p AC3 to DTS-HD XLL when I pause the timer it's pausing the pause button shows press BUT THE VIDEO IT'S STILL PLAYING !!! only the STOP button its working !
Tested with buid 4 too and NO change ! :helpful:

The reason we want to use subtitle without buffering is because we want realtime effects like karaoke, fading and stuffs like that. I really hope that this has a working solution one day.

On a side note not related specifically to Beliyaal's build, has anyone noticed that the internal MPC splitter is not compatible with Microsoft WMV VC1 DXVA Decoder: Whenever it is used, the video stutters badly while the same video decoder works fine with Haali splitter
Yeah, doesn't open .evo at all :( It's the only thing stopping me ditching PowerDVD completely :(

I have a tiny weird line at the bottom of my videos with your version, I don't have it with a standalone SVN version.

up on this one, it is still here.
I had a perfect (for a 24 on 60 Hz display ^^) jitter with the v3 (much better than with the SVN) but with the v4 I have horrible stuterring, the video is unwatchable.

Well I know that, but windows treats HDMI as spdif. So sending it might work if you send it over "SPDIF" if the spdif is HDMI in reality. That said I tried to get it work work without luck. Not sure if ASUS or ATI is willing to help to get this to work in non-PAP players.
HD audio over HDMI requires version 1.3.
There is only 1 device in existence with 1.3 out and that is the auzentech hd soundcard(i forgot the exact name)
This means that everyone will need to strip the HD parts from TrueHD and DTS-HD when using spdiff
We need someone with that auzentech card to test hdmi out

I notice a another bug with MPc-HC.
With some blu-ray (only some and not all), If I select MLP soundtrack, the framerate is only 12.4 i/s, if not with lpcm soundtrack or dts soundtrack, framerate is 23.97 i/s
here an example of this problem

v4 fixes the incorrect 48fps framerate but I still have a super jitter (which doesn't exist with the original mpc). The framerate can go down with DXVA AVC when seeking.
Accessing the options menu in fullscreen and leaving by clicking "ok" (even if no change was done) causes a crash 2/3 times.

NB: Windows XP x64 is actually a repurposed version of Windows Server 2003 x64 (or it's at least based on it's codebase) and has rather little to do with the 32-bit version of Windows XP...

Further testing shows that the cray jitter diseappears if accurate vsync is turned on. I will try further tests later.
