Why is MPC-HC reporting 6 channels instead of 8 in:

Properties -> details
Filters -> Splitter (file) -> Audio...
Properties -> Mediainfo

for any 8 channels TrueHD audio ?

It's playing the ALL 8 channels correct !!! but it's reporting 6 channels ?!

Sample: Test 7.1 Dolby TrueHD (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7P9P81CW)

I think that there is a little problem with DXVA and video at 28fps 720p with ATI Catalyst 9.8. There are many artifacts when I play that File with subs (Naruto Shippuden ep 119-120 TV-Japan RAW 720p) with MPC-HC 1.2.1243 and 1.2.1179 x86 and x64 (OS: Windows Vista SP2 x64)

This problem seems to happen only when i see the video in full screen. With previously Catalyst (9.4) there is no problem.

Thanks in advance

blu-ray subtitles dont work if they are for non-english parts only two examples are che part one and inglorious bastards, osd says they are selected but they never get displayed, its quite annoying as both those films have quite a bit of non-english dialogue. the actual disc are ok as che works fine in my ps3, didnt try inglorious bastards, used srt subtitles instead

I see, but this is a video too and I don't post the link. I apologize for asking help.

Anyway, is there a problem to decode a video with such info:

http://www.volny.cz/hoborg/snap1.jpg
Example: http://hobring.ic.cz/HDV_0091.zip

Tested on:
HD 4770 + CAT 9.8
HD 4550 + CAT 9.4

This sample have still problems. (screenshot is outdated, tryed on build 1237)

1) internal MP4 splitter only bring black screen (ok when using haali) - MP4 sample (www.volny.cz/hoborg/hdv_0015.zip), same source
2) there is "glitch" every 2-3s (looks like bad frame order)

EDIT:
Just tested my sample on 1.3.1252 and i must say that:
My sample is from Camcorder, original was MP4, cuted and muxed to MKV by MKV merge.

Now about that "glitch", it is still there, every 1-3s, but...
...when you hit Stop then Start, gues what...
...no more glitches !!! That is something i really do not understand.

Close MPC-HC, double click on my video example, gliches are here, hit Stop (but not Pause) then Play and no glitches - what logic is that ?

No glitch when DXVA off

BTW, same problem is with Standalone Filter in use

Looks like wrong frame order every 2-3s...

EDIT2: (tested other h.264 decoders)
haali spliter + PDVD9 (DXVA on) = no glitches at all
haali spliter + Win7 Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder (DXVA on) = no glitches at all
haali spliter + MPC video decoder (DXVA on) = glitch every 2-3s, disapear if stop and play again
haali spliter + MPC video decoder (DXVA off) = no glitches at all

hey guys i have a slight problem, or a question rather, i have a mac mini with 9400m onboard video, i use windows and mpc-hc to play my 1080p content, i use CUDA with CoreAVC decoder, now this is one thing that is bugging me, on windows xp i set up mpc-hc with VMR9 renderless, now i read that VMR9 does display 16-235 range, i have my nvidia CP set to 16-235, and coreavc output set to 16-235 TV output, because it defaults to 0-255 if set to automatic on VMR9, but i just want to make sure i am displaying the proper image on my Kuro plasma, because if i set all of my decoder, cp settings to 16-235 i see a difference between the black bars and the black levels in the video, if it is set to 0-255 in the decoder the difference between the black bars and the blacks in the video is gone, i wonder is the differece that i see the proper 16-235 image? Thanks :>

Make sure your output levels matches your connection (HDMI ?) levels ! e.g. I'm using HDMI Black level set to Normal to match my Full RGB output (PC Standard) and 0-255 in EVR CP
Why are you using 16-235? doesn't your Kuro support Full RGB (0-255) ?

yeah, it does support 16-235 and 0-255, i just read somewhere that 16-235 is the proper standard for 1080p videos, it's just weird because i've set 0-255 in CoreAVC once and 16-235 on the tv output and the colors were very dark, i think too dark, but now i tried 0-255 on CoreAVC and 0-255 in the Tv settings and it the colors are lighter, not as dark as they used to be, but i have no other HD equipment to check it, i should lauch a blu-ray on my PS3 and they compare the levels on PC and PS3 ;>

Artifacts like that in the attached images:

http://h.imagehost.org/0780/test1.png (http://h.imagehost.org/view/0780/test1)

I tried everything, also to change the input filter for *.mp4: internal, gabest and Haali (these last two one with Shark007 codec pack, version 5.3.9); but the result is the same: do ATI cards not support this kind of file? or what? My card is an ATI mobility HD 3650

Use this Brightness Test (http://sharebee.com/49fc050f) You should see only 4 bars = 2 on both the left and right side of the log gray scale if you see another 2 (on both the left and right side of the log gray scale) your levels are incorrect somewhere in your chain (adjust the brightness level to max to be sure)

Why the resolution ratio in MPC is recognized to 1920x1072 and 1266x720? Not 1920x1080 and 1280x720?

2) there is "glitch" every 2-3s (like bad frame order)This was fixed in RC2 (1188) but I can confirm occasional flashes of another frame every couple of seconds are visible by RC4 (1207). It is different to the problem I originally saw with this clip, before it was temporarily fixed in RC2.

I don't fully understand the levels stuff.

I have a PC running Win7, hooked up to a Samsung HDTV via VGA (Nvidia 9500GT graphics card). Mainly, I use it to watch DVD's and some TV shows in .mkv.

In the TV, I can't select between "Auto" or "Native" colour spaces because they are greyed out.

In MPC-HC, in renderer settings, I can select to output 0-255 or 16-235. But in the Nvidia Control panel I ALSO can select between 0-255 or 16-235.

My question is wich way should I set it up, because the levels can be changed in many settings.

Thanks, and sorry for my English...

I am also using a Samsung HDTV and it took me some time to fully understand how to best set things up. If you want to work on a PC and see correct ranges of colors for both desktop and movies, first you need to find out is there a way to get your TV to work in full range mode, ie take 0-255 as input and output that same 0-255. Often this is called "HDMI Black Level" or something like this, its nothing to do with the colorspace.

If it can be set into such a mode, you then need to make sure your PC's graphics drivers and software are setup to output in 0-255. NVidia doesn't have a setting for this at the moment, the setting in the nvidia control panel is for video content only, but in my case even setting it to 0-255 meant my display was forced into being fed 16-235 because somehow nvidias drivers didn't detect my screen could take as input 0-255.

Its hard to explain but first find out if your TV can accept 0-255 (full range) mode and it can be taken from there. There is a special thread in these forums relating to luminance settings you can look in.

I just want my PC to watch movies, I don't care about anything else XD.

I can't access to the "HDMI Black Level" option because the PC is running through a VGA cable.

I will post this to the thread you said, maybe someone can help me out.

By the way, how can I check if my TV is working or is capable of working in full range mode?
Thanks

If you use VGA port you have full range (PC levels) ! Only on a HDMI connection you can select Black level (for full select Normal)

P.S. To avoid any crashes or problems with MPC-HC (especially for 10bit RGB and D3D Full screen Mode) disable any "video features" in your drivers except: Automatic Deinterlacing and Pulldown Detection (use application settings where possible) !
e.g. for ATI disable : Dynamic Contrast and De-noise (use your TV settings for those)

So, you're saying that I don't have to select "0-255" from the Nvidia Control panel? (meaning that I let MPC HC handle the video and the colors)?

PS: If I do this (let the application handle the settings), I have to select 16-235 as output range in the MPC HC renderer settings. If I select 0-255, it clips my black levels.

So you're saying that even that you're using the VGA port Nvidia recognize your Samy' as TV not as Monitor ? (I'm not familiar with Nvidia settings / drivers)

Nvidia settings off.

In MPC HC. "View-> Renderer Settings-> Output Range". I'm using EVR Custom.

With 0-255, I see 2 bars.

With 16-235, I see 3 bars.

0-255 The background of this pattern represents "black" while the three vertical strips at either side represent 4% below black, 4% above black, and 2% above black. Ideally, one should only be able to see the 4% and 2% above black strips.

Any particular reason why you'd want that?

Well if you want to view other items on your desktop at the correct levels then your best outputting everything in 0-255 and if the TV operates at 0-255 natively (don't they all?) or at least takes 0-255 as input, I would also guess that the conversion from 16-235 -> 0-255 can now be done on the PC itself as good as, or even better than the TV would do (madVR / ffdshow / ATI / NVidia).

Just like its often better to de-interlace on the PC rather than leaving it upto the TVs de-interlacer.

Anyone know if there is a way to set the "user agent" string reported by MPC-HC when streaming http video? At the moment MPC-HC seems to report the string of the default browser.

If there is no way to do this it would be sensible if there was. Either a simple text box in the options or even a registry setting.

This isn't possible right now because mpc-hc uses the File Source (Async) Directshow filter - This filter uses the default browser.

It will happen when mpc-hc source filter system is rewritten.

i have a question to the alternative vsync in mpc.

when using it with windows 7 x64, i always got ghostlines just one or two every two or three minutes, but it isen't nice to see it.

is there anything i could do to stop it?

Snapshot bug

When taking snapshots I first pause the video at the frame I want, then I use "save image" command from file menu.

Sometimes the frame will move back 1 frame and then save that image rather than the frame I was paused at. So if I'm paused at frame 2222, mpc will end up saving frame 2221. I then have to move to frame 2223 in order to save the frame I want.

This happens using internal splitters and internal decoder or ffdshow decoder.

To reproduce it, try playing xvid avi, such as a tv show released on internet. Right after a scene change happens there is the first frame #1 (for example two people talking and it cuts from one person to the other). Framestep forward one frame using mpc shortcut key to what can be called frame #2. Now try saving snapshot of frame #2. Mpc will move back to frame #1 and save that image.

Can't seem to get MPC-HC to use ffdshow audio. Is anyone else experiencing this? Even if I set ffdshow audio to preferred in external filters it won't work.

ffdshow audio works here with your settings on my XP 32. Maybe you've also set another external audio filter to "Prefer" and it's above in the list?

@all MPC-HC programmers
Would it be possible to add some command line options to choose the renderer and another one to disable the 321-logo in fullscreen mode?

Why? In order to initialize DXVA level 5 support on my HD 3450 PCIe x1 I need to play a certain VC-1 clip just once for a few seconds in EVR .Net3 fullscreen mode. It doesn't work with the logo. And usually, I have to play all other videos in VMR7 windowed mode because that's the only stable mode with DXVA for my limited PCIe x1 bandwidth. So, I won't need to change the renderer settings in MPC-HC twice and I could build a one-click Init_Level5 command. ;) Thanks !!

Hoborg's problem (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1317952#post1317952) still exists in the final and 1252. Hopefully, as this was a regression between RC2 and RC4 it can be swiftly fixed.

In the latest versions (currently using 1237) "Position subtitles relative to video frame" does not change anything in the "default style" options. It's alway activated now regardless of to what you set it.

In addition to that: Blu-Ray subtitles are always stretched to screen resolution which looks very odd on 4:3 displays. Any way to turn that off?

For those who have problems loading ffdshow, you need to add "mpc-hc.exe" to the whitelist in ffdshow settings (DirectShow control page).

Nope. The only "prefer" in the external filters is ffdshow audio decoder.

EDIT: I didn't see clsid's post. It fixes the problem. Thanks.

will it be added automatically in ffdshow's upcoming builds ?I have just added it to the default whitelist. However, it won't get automatically updated, you must perform a fresh install of ffdshow.

Did this work in older versions? i don't think this is supported yet.
