Hello,
When I play Nvidea's PureVideoHD trailer, CPU goes up to 50% -> I guess no DXVA at all. How can I check this?
I have one sample which can't be rendered with MPC HC or anything else I tried so far. Filename BatmanBegins_1080p.wmv 164MB, length about 2:29. This file was originally listet on MS HD sample side. I found it on emule and uploaded it http://rapidshare.com/files/138498006/BatmanBegins_1080p.wmv.html for you to play around if you like. It might be a DRM thing :(
you could post the results of DXVAChecker, and also what OS you use?
If you have Output selected as VMR9renderless in XP or "EVR Cust" in Vista you could display the stats of the video by clicking "Ctrl+J". This will give you informations regardless of the used decoder. If you use the internal H.264/AVC decoder of MPC-HC you could right-click on the video and select "MPC Video Decoder". The Proprietieswindow will show you if you have DXVA or not.
about the Nvidea's PureVideoHD trailer, you didnt provide any sample or videoinfo, but i suppose its a MPEG-2 video (or maybe VC-1, then its the same situation like WMV9 below), and not a H.264. the internal decoders of MPC-HC dont support DXVA for MPEG-2. you will have to use external filters for that, or from Cyberlink or from Nvidia (payware both)
BatmanBegins_1080p.wmv uses WMV9, again, the internal filters from MPC-HC dont support DXVA (this specifical file isnt playable because of DRM-limitations, like you said). you will have to use
microsofts decoders, after you enable DXVA in the WMVDecoderDMO. you will find all you need for that here: http://www.citizeninsomniac.com/WMV/

Changes log (http://www.xvidvideo.ru/content/view/7/17/)
Updated : Polish translation; FIX : selection of a language not all data transferred(need restart on MPC-HC); ADD : Adding Entries to the Explorer Context Menu for Directory(MPC now reads the entire directory - For activating of this option, it is necessary to open 'Options -> Formats' and to push the button ‘Ok’.)
Do you have a future plan to add Hd-subtitles from blu-ray support in a future release?

Thanks to all the developers of this great player.
I'm testing out DXVA and power savings on my laptop right now to see if GPU offloading will give me battery life by looping a video.
Radeon HD3200
Turion RM-70
Batman Begins Apple trailer #3
If it turns out to save power, it'd be another reason to use MPCHC =)
(With CoreAVC 1.6.5.0 it takes over 60% CPU at 2GHz to decode. With DXVA, it takes about 35% CPU at 500MHz. The key will be how much power the HD3200 uses).

another question: Does Casimir have a plan to add inverse telecine support with dxva because ffdshow with avysinth (telecide filter) can't be used with dxva on?

I'm unable to get "display stats" to work. Nothing happens when i activate it. Was really useful when calibrating refreshrates.
Currently using ATI and Vista and have tried coreavc and mpc video decoder using overlay/vmr7/vmr9/evr/evr custom. Also tried with XP and nvidia a while back ago but that was a no go as well.
What filters and settings are required for it to work or has this feature been removed or is it broken?

For Display Stats/CTRL+J to work, you must install the latest DirectX Redist August 2008. MPC-HC depends on D3DX9_xx.DLL if you use one of the recent SVN compiles from alexins's xvidvideo.ru site for Display Stats and Shaders functions to work. Also it only works in VMR9 Renderless(XP) and EVR Custom Presenter(Vista) renderers afaik.

I don't know that, maybe any of the developers could answer you that?
Other thing that needs to be revised is the deinterlacing support for DXVA, for H264 works a little, the video is jumpy and there are still traces of interlacing, PDVD is OK of course.

@Aleksoid1978,
I saw you added MPC to the shell context menu for directories. Could you modify that code to only enqueue audio/video files (those with file extensions from the Formats page in MPC options)? We don't want MPC to enqueue all kinds of other filetypes. Images/Playlist files should also be skipped.
For example a directory with .mp3 files will often contain a .txt/.nfo file (tracklist), and a .jpg (album art), and a .m3u (playlist). Those should all not be enqueued. Only the .mp3 files should get enqueued.
If a user would want to open a playlist, then the user would open that directly, not by adding the contents of a whole directory.
I do - now when open DIRECTORY(from Context Menu or MPC-HC Menu) - load only files, than extensions checked in the Formats page in MPC options

Hi,
Newbie here with some questions on MPC-HC's DXVA. I'm have tried decoding H264 video streams with both CoreAVC and MPC-HC DVA. CoreAVC appears to be provide smoother playback and better picture quality. I'm currently using a ATI HD4850 which should have no problem decoding the H264 stream if MPC-HC DXVA is properly enabled.
How do I check if MPC-HC DXVA is actually being used to decode the H264 stream? I have followed the various guides on proper MPC-HC settings to have DXVA enabled.
Any advise would be much appreciated.

Greetings,
I just setup 2 nearly identical HTPCs. Both are based on the new Intel G45 chipset. One is the Asus P5Q-EM with an E8500 cpu, the other an Intel DG45ID with an E4500 CPU. Both are running Vista SP1 32-bit.
The problem I'm having is that I can't get HW acceleration working with MPC-HC (it works fine with Arcsoft TMT). I have tried selecting EVR and no external filters as well as selecting the Arcsoft video decoder as an external filter.
I'm getting about 60% CPU util on the E4500 system and 30% on the E8400 system when playing BD MKVs (ripped with AnyDVD, then processed with eac3to). No stuttering, but I'd like to get HW accel working.
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. I would prefer not having to install the Cyberlink decoder (which I understand could possibly be an option).
Thanks!

I wanted to try out some things but now a have a problem:
When playing a .wmv file I want to try what would happen if I disabled the MPC Video decoder. So in the settings (when a file was playing and going into filters) I disabled the box 'enable ffmpeg'. Now I have sound but no picture anymore. I would like to know how I can reload/reassign the MPC Video decoder. I tried redownloading a 'fresh' mpchc but didn t help.

Hi !
Yesterday I was viewing a film, "Le scaphandre et le papillon", at 720p with MPC-HC rel. 715 DXVA and D3D activated, and from time to time the image began to 'judder' in the top. First it is only the top 10 or 15 pixels but this judder begins to grow if I go on viewing the film.
If I go a few seconds back with 'Jump backward (small)' the problem disappear until a few minutes has passed.
It is not a normal judder because I have not seen this problem in other films and I have the correct refresh rate in my PC and in the projector (24p).
¿ Some idea ?
This is the internal info of the film.

Hello everybody. I've been trying to get DXVA to work with my VGA but without success. I have a BFG Nvidia 8800 GTS 640MB, I'm using the latest drivers from Nvidia 175.xx (even tried the beta 177.83) and I've also installed the latest DirectX (Aug08). OS Vista Business 32bit, MPC-HV r741, EVR Custom. Here is a screenshot of DXVA checker.

Hello everybody.
I've been fighting with 1080p .mkv playback for the last couple days.
I use Cyberlink H264/PVD8 codec to get DXVA acceleration. Just like the dxva checker says. My is card Saphire ATI2600 XT
720p files play fine with DXVA everytime.
When I keep changing settings in the MPC-HC like overlay, add external filter, sometimes I am able to get .mkv DXVA 1080p playback.
Then I reboot and for some strange reason all is gone. MPC freezes when I try to play 1080p. Closing MPC using Task Manager makes computer unresponsive and have to use reset button.
Please any suggestions?

from the Menue, go to "View - Options" and there "Internal Filters" . Check "WMV1/2/3" from the list of transform filters.
personaly i use the decoder from microsoft, WMVDecoderDMO, because it will give me DXVA with WMV9.

Finally managed to verify that I had the internal MPC-HC DXVA properly enabled. A few questions I was hoping someone could help to clarify:
- What's the difference between DXVA and DXVA2? Is one better than the other?
- Having tested H264 decoding with CoreAVC, MPC-HC DXVA and PowerDVD DXVA, it appears that the MPC-HC DXVA performs the least favorably. Since both MPC-HC and PowerDVD both utilize the same DXVA hardware acceleration, is there any reason for a big gap in their respective decoding performance?

Great news on PGS support! I've given up on it myself because of some obscure subtitle timing bug in MPC-HC (which I assume is being addressed) and also because my strategy was based on using Haali Media Splitter's undocumented subtitle pins, but Haali isn't supporting the splitter anymore as far as I can tell. I think casimir's m2ts support is superior at the moment.
Thanks again Casimir and the rest of the devs.

Hi,
I cannot stretch SD stream with MPC-HC using EVR in VISTA. I stream from DVB Dream to MPC-HC. No matter what MPEG2 codec I chose (Purevideo, Cyberlink, Microsoft), I cannot get SD signal to display in 16:9; the black bars always stay on both sides. If I change to VMR7, VMR9 or OVERLAY, it works GREAT.
However, I MUST use EVR since it is the only way to get hardware accelerated h264 stream.
PLEASE HELP!
PS
MPC-HC is a great piece of work. Works (almost) flawlessly with HA h264 streams - THANKS FOR YOUR WORK!

For the end user there is no difference between DXVA1 and 2 (performance and video quality are equal). Difference are only technical.

Hardware decoding is only one step of the process, so it's normal to notice difference in CPU usage for 2 decoders.
But i'm not sure to have understand you : who use less CPU between PDVD and MPC ?

im having a problem playing dxva compliant videos with the latest version of MPC HC. i play them once, it plays fine, i close and try to play it again (or a different dxva compliant video) i won't play. it shows the length of the movie in the time counter at the bottom right, but it won't start the movie (stuck at 00:00); even if i move the slider else where, or press the pause button and push play again, it won't play... i have to reboot to get it to play again, and it happens again. non-DXVA compliant videos play though.
another problem im having is using vmr9 paired with dxva h264 internal filter, it looks brighter than using coreavc (which has an auto detect for pc or video levels 0-255 or 16-235) paired with vmr9.

Casimir666,
I am not referring to the difference between CPU usage for PDVD (DXVA) versus MPC (DXVA).
What I'm trying to say is:
- Since both PDVD and MPC both make use of DXVA and they are using the same graphics card on my computer, shouldn't the output picture quality and smoothness be essentially the same?
- On my computer, PDVD DXVA produces much smoother video with better picture quality. Is there any reason for this difference in smoothness/pic quality?

to answer one of my questions, i found out that you need ATI Hotkey poller enabled in the services (usually disable this). this caused dxva movies not to start if i tried playing them a second time.

Any news about DXVA ? :D :helpful:
Please !
Lots of (& Intel) owners out there ! :thanks:
for H264, maybe the cyberlink filter can use those?
For WMV8/9, VC1 and MPEG2, the Microsoft filters already can use all the important non-bitstream DXVA modes according to what DXVA checker tells me. No need for MPC-HC to re-implement those at least...

Well picture decoded by graphics card are basically the same that's right, but after this step video have to be resize to fit screen and some post processing can be done. If you activate the sharpen shader in mpc for example you will also notice differences.

Cyberlink filters can do the trick (for VC-1 & AVC) but they do it for all the other cards !!! so what's your point ? MPC's DXVA shouldn't be enable for all cards because cyberlink filters can do DXVA ?
As for microsoft's VC-1 & Mpeg2 they don't use DXVA ( all the the time ) although theoretically they should, or if they use dxva then they do a very bad job.
To prove all this try this VC-1 (http://rapidshare.com/files/139623098/VC-1Test.m2ts.html) and this MPEG2 (http://rapidshare.com/files/139534232/MPEG2HDTest.ts.html) samples with Microsoft's VC-1 and MPEG2 filters then compare with Cyberlink's VC-1 and Elecard's MPEG2 filters If you have an Intel graphic card like I do you'll see such a big difference to the point that with Microsoft's filters the files are unwatchable !
Also I have a problem with the above VC-1 sample : with powerdvd i have no sound and if I connect FFdshow or AC3Filter or Cyberlink Audio Decoder to Cyberlink's Demux and VC-1 Decoder ( in graphstudio ) the above VC-1 sample it's not playing ! Same thing In MPC if add internal DTS filter!
Can someone help me ? :helpful:
P.S. I'm trying to use Cyberlink's VC-1 because with Microsoft's VC-1 the image and sound are out of sync because NO DXVA

@Mercury_22
Use "WMV PowerToy" to enable DXVA and VMR renderer in MPC-HC. With EVR renderer DXVA doesn't work with combination: Vista+MPC-HC+WMVideo Decoder DMO.

As far as i understand you can't use Cyberlink filters with VC1files under MPC-HC, do you?

I can use Cyberlink VC-1 filters with MPC (only if I use Cyberlink's Demux too) but for this file it's not working ! :helpful:
To resume PowerDVD it's playing the video smooth but without sound (DTS-HD 5.1), MPC + any audio filter (internal or FFDshow or AC3Filter) + WMVideo Decoder DMO it's out of sync and a slow video, MPC + any audio filter (internal or FFDshow or AC3Filter) + Cyberlink's Demux + Cyberlink VC-1 filters = the file it's NOT playing !

You can't listen DTS-HD with Cyberlink filters.
Uninstall haali,
Make Cyberlink Demux's merit 008000FF with Radlight Filter Manager.
Untick "MPEG/PS/TS/PVA" and "Matroska" under "Source Filters" and "VC1 dxva", "VC1 ffdmpeg" under "Transform Filers" of intenal filters option,
Select "Cyberlink VC1 decoder" and "arcsoft audio decoder hd" and set their merits "prefer" under external filters option.
(You can use Arcsoft TMT trial for test)
Don't forget to correct 2 channels to 5.1 on the arcsoft audio decoder HD properties page everytime.

For giving it a go with arcsoft filters only:

EDIT:
Another tip: If you don't want to use arcsoft filters at all, you can try this:
Register standalone MPC filters:
MPC DTS/ac3 source and MPC mpa decoder..
Make a TS including just vc1 video-without audio.
Put it into the same folder which includes *.dts file (extracted DTS-HD)
Open video with MPC-HC; you will see standalone audio starts playing with the filter chain MPC DTS Source > MPC mpa decoder > Default DS Device.

Ignore the "XP only" part (which I have removed yesterday) and you will probably discover that it already works.

I've already tried all that except using arcsoft filters with Cyberlink Demux ! Is your chain Cyberlink Demux + Cyberlink VC1 + arcsoft audio decoder hd working for you with my sample ? :thanks:

Now i'm downloading. I'll edit here.
EDIT:
The working graph:
http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/416/runningyw1.th.png (http://img137.imageshack.us/my.php?image=runningyw1.png)
Cyberlink demux doesn't work with arcsoft audio decoder hd with your sample.
But there is something wrong with your file; extract vc1 and audio with eac3to and remux with TSMuxer again.

I did, but it isn't working. Maybe because I'm using Vista64 and MPC-HC 32? MPC is not listed in autoplay options, and PowerDVD is still used when a DVD is inserted. The option remains checked in MPC.
